Traveling through, and very tired, Steve at the front desk was very helpful with getting us setup and answering all of our questions. Good coffee, great atmosphere. Cookies were awesome! It is a shame when a motel in South Carolina charges as much as a Hampton Inn in New York City. Yes the hotel is new, but to charge $150 with tax is crazy. That was the least expensive rate listed. If we were not so tired we would have driven to Fayetteville where the same company is $50 less. The employees were very pleasant. read more

Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and welcoming. We got two rooms, one handicap accessible. That one is very good for wheelchair accessibility: spacious with shower chair and room for chair under the sink. It's freezing out right now, but the pool looks great. We had a nice stay here after a long day of traveling. read more

Needed a place to stay on 9/10/16 in the midst of a long-drive to Florida. Reviews of the cheaper hotel/motel options in this area of SC seemed shabby, so I decided to go with the Hampton Inn in Santee. I'd had great experiences at Hampton Inns in other towns and decided the quality was worth the extra cost. Researching online, I read Santee was a "resort town". Between that and the price tag of the hotel I expected a bit more than the reality of this part of Santee. There is not much to do or eat near the hotel. (Note: I do not fault the hotel for this or consider it a reason to rate them 2 stars - simply a word of advice to fellow travelers). Check-in went well. The room appeared as expected, hotel had the typical amenities (although no indoor pool, a nice outdoor pool and fitness room are available). Front-desk staff set out fresh-baked cookies shortly after our arrival. Room, bed & bathroom looked clean. Apart from some noisiness in the hall around our room, the evening & rest were just fine. The following morning is where my issues began. First, there was a walnut-sized cockroach scampering about the room when I woke up and turned on the light. It scurried out the door and across the hall before I could stomp it or call the staff - but not before grossing me out, leaving me wondering what else was crawling around my stuff while I slept. My second issue was the breakfast. Breakfast is typically great at the Hampton Inn. This one LOOKED great, too - but there was a funky taste to everything I bit into with the exception of the biscuits and (sealed) yogurt. It seemed like someone sprayed air-freshener, perfume or cleaning product or something else on the food. My girlfriend noticed it as well. We were disturbed, threw away our uneaten food, and left for Florida. Overall, the hotel served its purpose. I got to swim and relax for the night in the middle of a long drive. The staff and property are very nice. The positives end there. For premium price, I expect a premium experience -- one that does not include bugs and unknown-chemical tastes at breakfast. That is simply unacceptable for the Hampton Inn brand, and the price they charge for a room in this dead town. Next time I will roll the dice on a cheaper motel, where at least I can think to myself "you get what you pay for" and won't need to whine about it on Yelp. read more

Great motel to stay at period! Very and do repeat very clean room!! Thought the little sticky notes above the bed which explains the beddings cleanliness was a nice touch. Loved the extra breakfast selection, (I'm vegetarian) offers fresh fruit, friendly staff. Will choose this place again. read more

Was on the road late night (around midnight) with the family with a five hours drive still ahead of me. Didn't want to risk getting into an accident so decided to find a spot for the night. Just happened to be near this area and stopped to check out some hotels. There's five in my family and none of the hotels I drove to could accommodate us in a single room. Then I tried the Hampton Inn and as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a warm smile. I explained that we needed a room with a fold-out couch and she actually called around to other nearby hotels to see if they had any. Unfortunately the other hotels did not have any rooms with couches available so she offered us a two bed room suite and a roll-out cot at no extra charge (she must have sensed how tired we were). I took the deal and headed to our room on the first floor. I could not have been more pleased: the rooms were fresh and clean, the wifi was strong, and the tv had practically every channel (I ended staying up longer than I wanted to because of this). They even had coffee and hot chocolate available near the front deask for free. The next morning my kids actually woke up early to go to the gym and we had an amazing complimentary breakfast: waffles with toppings, eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereal, juices, milk, teas, coffee, etc. Again, the staff was extremely friendly - every time they passed us by they said hello or good morning. I was totally amazed at the service and will start looking at other Hampton Inns from now on. read more

A friend and I ended up here after fleeing south Florida to escape Hurricane Irma. This was our third stop, after being evacuated from St. Augustine and Savannah, and we--and the dog--were exhausted. I expected nothing more than a place to sleep and recover for a few days. But instead we found a welcoming and friendly place that exemplified the spirit of southern hospitality. The hotel was packed with fellow Floridians and hordes of dogs and other pets. The staff handled it all with grace. I will never forget the kindness shown to us. In particular, I want to thank Sharon, the bartender/restaurant server, who made great drinks in between waiting on tables in a crowded restaurant, and did it all with a sense of humor; Sinda in housekeeping, who cleaned rooms fast and thoroughly, and still found time to cheer us up; Ethylene, who served breakfast quietly and quickly, and combined that with nice conversation; and last but not least, Jerome, who seemed to be there all the time doing whatever job needed doing, and who on that first morning gave us welcoming hugs. Off first sight I thought this was a pretty nice hotel and the suite I reserved was nice. The woman behind the counter (Jeane) was rude but I looked past that especially after driving 12 hours. But here's the but then the air conditioner was not functioning for 5 hours!, 5 freaking hours I was sitting in a room waiting for the AC to kick in but it was stuck at 77 degrees! After I showered I needed another one. I kindly called the front desk and asked for help with the air so the sent up maintenance. When he got there seriously felt bad they sent this little old man who probably never had proper training on these new air conditioning systems, shoot sometimes I get confused. Anywhoo he couldn't get the air working either and to top it off the air went up a notch! Wtf! So I'm nearly out of air yeah I have asthma and the heat was really triggering that. The woman at the front desk (Jeane) offered a lovely downgrade which guess what?, I wasn't having that inconvenience on my road trip! Then was told I can have two rooms, I asked if they where adjoined after she looked at me stupid she said no separate. Now what family would would want two separate rooms when traveling with your small nephews who obviously won't behave in a room alone on a separate floor ok yea. So I got frustrated yes and automatically I'm the crazy loud Spanish girl...but this made no sense to me I told the woman forget all the frustration because I was getting annoyed I thought I would get refunded but NO! Supposedly since I didn't book directly with my Hilton Honors card I couldn't get a refund. I had to ask 3 times for the managers name and for corporates number then was given an apology. I understand it wasn't her fault the AC was out like I expressed to her but this hotel and staff are not trained properly they definitely lacked knowledge and no Southern Hospitality at all! I will never book here again! And I hope no one else experiences this either. read more

On our way to Florida from PA, and was very surprised with the quality and staff at the hotel. Every single employee was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was clean and well kept, and the kids loved the pool (the gnats drove me crazy though). This will be our normal stop on our annual trek!
