This hotel is an outstanding property. The owner and staff go above and beyond to assure guest comfort. The rooms are clean and quiet. The breakfast is excellent. This by far is the best hotel in Spearfish. I have stayed here many times and always feel welcomed. The recent remodeling has upgraded the property as well. Highly recommend. read more

Had a reservation which allowed pets, ready to check in and was told my dogs too big. No weight restrictions on the site or during booking, the general manger Zulfigar Khan was completely rude. To the point of refusing to help book else where and even went to the point of being so disrespectful in telling us he doesn't have to give his name or show any policy saying a weight limit. We have been Diamond Member for fifteen years and have never been treated so poorly. I have never had a problem with the size of my dog any where else. This hotel is awful. There are disgusting stains on the walls, headboard, sheets, and towels.. there was a dirty sock left on the floor. The walls are paper thin, we were on the top floor and could hear people talking in the parking lot perfectly. The mattress's are super old. The rooms are hot. The water is only cold or hot, can't make it warm. The staff does the least bit possible. They aren't friendly. It says the breakfast goes until 10 but they were tearing it down at 9. Just all around awful. If you can stay anywhere else, do it. We tried to find another hotel but there weren't any available close enough... we had been up since sunrise and been driving all day... read more

The hotel was fine but the owner charged an unreasonable $86 pet fee for one night. I booked on hotels.com which advertised a $50 pet fee, but when I arrived at the hotel, the manger demanded $86 and blamed it on Hilton. When I called Hilton to complain, they said the fee was $75 but the local chain still refused to refund the difference. Don't stay there - not customer friendly read more

This hotel is horrible. First of all the rooms are disgusting. The sheets don't fit the beds so you're sleeping straight to the nasty matress. The shades are automatic and don't work and our room was on the first floor right outside the very bright light. The hotel manager or owner is a complete piece of work. The pet charge was supposed to be per stay up to 5 nights. Nope he said that was incorrect information and. Charged us 75$ a night. So many complaints we will be calling Hilton to get worked out and hope they are not okay with this kind of treatment to happen to their guests. We have been diamond members for 7 years now. If there was a lower score I would give it a zero star! Do not stay here. I have been traveling for years and for the first time was covered in bed bug bites when I woke up, 21bites! The manager said, I think you have a rash. I ask him to take this seriously, that these bites was absolutely not a rash. A coworker of mine spent another night for work and he said, they checked someone into the room after I left. We are traveling from texas and use Hampton inn as our "go to" place to stay. This one has been a disappointment. 1. The all rooms are mini suites (sofa bed and chair). This accounts for the higher price range. 2. Rooms can accommodate three people but there is no place to put your luggage except on top of tables and sofa/chair. 3. There is no safe in room. 4. Window blackout curtains do not work well. Light seeps through window and und door. This is the first time I didn't need any light to get to bathroom during the night. I had to wear a sleeping mask. 4. Breakfast bar is mediocre. Lesser priced HI's have more selection then this one. At least the coffee is good. Will not be coming back. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Hotel manager is extremely shady and quickly becomes belligerent when questioned. I had reserved a room at a discounted rate that he changed without communication to a rate almost $100 more a night. When I addressed it with him, he lied and became extremely argumentative with me, even going so far as to question the legitimacy of my business purpose (I was traveling for work.) It became very clear to me quickly that he was adjusting rates because of some event nearby that was creating high demand - and my reserved discounted rate was causing a lost profit opportunity for him. I am a Diamond member and travel often for work, and I have never experienced such dirty and corrupt abuse of position as what I experienced from this hotel manager. Needless to say, I escalated my concerns to Hilton directly. As for the condition of this hotel, I'm surprised they still can claim Hilton property status. My hotel room felt extremely dirty and all of the furniture was stained . (We had to put down a towel before sitting on the chair or sofa.) The room and the hall smelled of pet urine, and the bathroom was in desperate need of maintenance and repair. Lobby looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in over a week, and the fitness and pool areas looked even more neglected at first quick glance. No offense meant to Super 8, but I think a room there would be a luxury stay compared to what you can expect from this Hampton Inn. The rooms are gross, hotel staff is terrible, and overall experience will leave you wishing you had stayed anywhere but at this hotel. read more

The hotel is clean, but that is about it. The owners don't turn the air conditioning on in the common areas and it is sweltering. The cooling system in the room was intermittent. The worst part, however, is the Wi-Fi. it was spotty at best and kept dropping connections. I ended up using my phone as a hot spot. I've never seen anything like this in a Hampton Inn. The problem with this place is I am a Hilton Rewards member, so obviously I stay at Hamptons all over the country... and that's the rub. I stayed in 3 Hamptons on my way out to Spearfish, and 2 on the way back to my residence in Nevada, so I know what to expect. This location does not give you any rewards or acknowledge your status in any way. I got my rewards including free water at every OTHER one but this one. Its not about the water, but its about the rewards. Note to travelers staying here.... If you are unlucky enough to get a room on the east side, Prepare to be woken up by the sun every morning around 5:30 am, with the sun in your face. Yes they have curtains, but they do little to no good. Overall this place is decent overall, and was quiet and parking was good, but things here seem generally more dirty than the others I stayed at on this trip. Will i be back? Not to this one. There are 3 others in Lead, Deadwood and will try them next. This place is unremarkable at best. read more

We booked a room at the last minute because we weren't sure where we would be at on this road trip. This was a nice clean hotel and the room was spacious and comfortable. All of us had a good night sleep and when we were checking out the smoke detector went off in our room. I tried turning it off and so did the hotel staff with no luck, until it was fully disconnected from the ceiling. This was the only issue we had but luckily we were about to leave anyways. read more

I am usually not one to leave reviews, regardless of positive or negative experiences, but I feel like I have to about this hotel. We booked this Hotel because Hampton Inn's are typically on the nicer side and we wanted to be comfortable after our 10 hour drive. 1) I called at 7am the morning of our check in to ask if we could check in an hour early, (2pm), the lady said "Absolutely that won't be a problem. I will put a note on your account and we will see you at 2p!" When I showed up at 1:50pm to check in I was instantly met with attitude and disrespect from the front desk. I was told "we were completely booked last night, what makes you think we could have a room ready early?" I explained the phone call I had earlier that morning but was told "there are absolutely no rooms available. You'll have to wait at least 45 minutes". 2) When I came back at 2:50pm to check in, the front desk women answered her personal cell phone during my check in. I needed to switch the card on my account at check in. She took the card information and said she would process it, but I ended up getting the charge on the old card. 3) Anytime I went to the desk to ask a question (more toliet paper or towels, etc), there was never anyone there. I would have to wait at least 15/20 minutes to be helped. 4) The breakfast potatoes and eggs were almost frozen 5) When trying to check out of the hotel, you are told to place your cards in a jar on the front desk. When I tried speaking with the manager about my concerns, as well as wanting to make sure the correct card was on file, I was told "no need to talk with me. have a nice day". The manager literally shooed his hands at me to get out. I do not recommend staying at this hotel unless you go in with low standards of respectful/caring staff. read more

The hotel itself is clean and relatively quiet. The staff member that checked us in was dismissive, rude and cold. She was unwilling to put our mothers room on her own credit card, I had reserved both rooms on my card. In the morning the "grab and go" breakfast basket was empty at 8:30 am and when I told her they were out she was irritated. Her attitude was arrogant, unwelcoming and degrading toward us. We called ahead to see if we could check in early. Was told yes, and we went in and was told check in was at 3. She checked us in and was rude the entire time. We stayed in two rooms and they charged us for 3. I called to get it corrected a week later and was told I'm a liar. Who am I to trust, my system or you? Just a joke. This hotel is FANTASTIC. I don't understand any of the low reviews. Some of the most important criteria for me is cleanliness, nice/accommodating staff and comfort of the room overall. The cleanliness of the room was off the charts in my opinion...and I am super picky so they are really rocking it. The breakfast area was so clean and well stocked, one of the best I've seen. The staff was always kind and put out fresh baked cookies every evening which was a great touch. The beds and all the amenities were comfortable and perfect. They also had 'extras' like goodie bags in the lobby with water and snacks to take during the day. I would highly suggest this location for any friends or family visiting in the area! read more

Nothing special at this Hampton Inn. It provides the usual clean room, competent staff and reasonably affordable rate. Note, though, that this is an older property. We thought the breakfast was way under par here, however. The eggs and turkey sausage were cold barely edible. Very disappointed that I did not read the reviews earlier. I booked my stay here a few weeks in advance of our travels which was about a month in advance so I could not have seen the post that was five days earlier. I'm sure I could've found a better place to stay than this Hampton. The previous review is exactly how I feel. We traveled from Reno to Louisiana stopping at Hamptons along the way and all of them were fully open and having nice breakfasts. This one has a grab and go breakfast and no pool. My kids were really looking forward to it especially since the picture showed an awesome water slide. So sad . I'm just thankful that we're only going to be here 1 night. Hopefully tomorrow's stay at the Embassy Suites will be better and will make up for this disappointment. This Hampton is way behind the times and doesn't seem to care. It must be why there are so many rooms available. I haven't really dealt with the staff yet - hopefully it will be better. The WiFi does not seem to be working well. Will update after the stay. I wish i would have read the reviews before i booked this hotel! I am a rewards member ans never had this type of service before with Hilton! Front desk girl could not even look at us, was dismissive and had her nose in her phone. We walked by her to move our car and she did not even look up! Room was ok but curtains had rips in them and bugs on the floor! Customer service to me makes the stay and i could have looked over the ripped curtain and bugs however since she was rude i will put it all out there ! Will book somewhere else next time! read more

This hotel would actually be a solid four or maybe even a five if they kept up on their maintenance. The gym had a broken cable system on their nautilus type machine but no out of order sign on it. I found out after attempting to use it. All the other equipment was very good. They have a full set of newer dumb bells from 10-50lbs as well as a nice treadmill, elliptical and stationary bike. The pool and hot tub were nice. The pool has an awesome slide into the pool but unfortunately that was also broken The rooms were clean and the staff here are friendly enough. The breakfast was even a little better than other Hampton Inns that I've stayed in. Overall I'd stay at this hotel again if I'm ever in the Spearfish area again. I booked a room for my family and myself through hotels.com at the Spearfish Hampton Inn. When I arrived at the hotel, they informed me that I was supposed to be there the night before. Therefore I was considered a "no show"and would have to pay again. I explained that clearly I hadn't been there the night before and they had made an error. The clerk explained that his hands were tied and he called the general manager. The general manager, Mr. Zulfiqar Khan , refused to allow me and my family a credit so that we could stay the night knowing he had our money for a service he did not provide. I even had a receipt to show that I was actually at another hotel in another city when I booked. Mr. Zulfiqar Khan wanted my money and he didn't care that my family and I were not provided a room. Mr. Zulfiqar Khan is a greedy, heartless man. Please avoid giving this man your money if at all possible. read more

We had a terrible experience during our 5 night 6 day stay at the Hampton Inn in Spearfish, SD. I truly in my soul believe the manager/franchise owner lied to us - hotel is basically shut down as to ALL normal services, no hot breakfast, no clean towels unless you pile up your dirty towels and carry them downstairs, no garbage removed from rooms, no beds made, no clean linens, bathroom dirty (when arrived) and the two girls for 200 rooms - who we saw ONCE when we were leaving as they clean rooms ONLY when guests leave, were exhausted, said they won't hire staff back. Air conditioning barely worked, and the front desk staff was very VERY condescending - especially the gentleman/manager/franchise owner (?) - when any question was asked - he pointed to a sign on the wall about the Covid pandemic. Many of us approached the desk to discuss the governor's opening of state 100% - and that the country is 100% open - and still - a long arm and finger point to sign on wall. I cannot help but believe it is a cheapness factor of now wanting to hire back more staff and give a good/normal experience to weary travelers coming across the country to stay at this hotel. Do not stay at the Hampton in Spearfish. Oh....we stayed in 2 other Hamptons (both in SD - Mitchell and Sioux Falls) and they were both fully open, wonderful and everything we have come to expect from Hampton. I am expecting a voucher - as their "letter" (which they slid under the door early the morning of our first night) told us of the pool, food, cleaning, towels, beds, soaps, etc - all not being part of our experience. OH! We also had to go downstairs to ask for soap - or shampoo - or more cups - or anything. HORRIBLE. Just HORRIBLE. Do NOT stay at Hampton Inn in Spearfish. read more

Ok, first of all, we were there just before bike week which was chaos as it was but we had international guests who wanted to visit the area. The rooms were decent but due to the exuberant price people were busy hording food for the zombie apocalypse as the buffet was the only recourse to make it worth the stay. The hotel is a little worn. The pool has a slide but it was a little too cold for my blood and my daughter was shivering. The manager was clearly defeated with the rally crowd but she managed to smile and the staff did well. Maybe if you don't get out much, you might think this place is modern. I spend many nights a year in hotels and this place is now dated and dirty. It may have changed management, I don't recall cleanliness issues from earlier stays. The room I stayed in was deluxe and 150.00 a night, expensive for this area - off season. I had to kill three flies and a cockroach in my room and noticed numerous other insect carcasses on the window sill. The carpet needs replacing in the room and the bathroom and walls need updating. The staff was fine, the breakfast food was awful. Worse than most of these hotel freebie meals. A lack of fresh fruit and particularly foul imitation eggs were most noticeable. The staff were fine, no issues there! I asked my colleague if his room was as full of bugs and he admitted that it was and he too had to dispatch flies before he could sleep. read more

Worst Hampton Inn I have stayed at. Newer looking but we Checked in late to a hot room, AC was "fixed" by front desk person after reporting that our room was too hot as it was over 80 degrees. He did come up and push some buttons. He told us that none of the thermostats worked any more so each room only has the controller on the unit. (We had already tried to get it to work before calling. Received attitude from him with his statements "well, what do you want me to do about it" and "it will cool, it's 59 degrees outside" (the room was in the 80s). The fix did not cool the room, very little sleep due to the heat in the room. In the AM when I tried to talk to him about it. He said why didn't you call? I was here all night and I could have come fix it, he then walked away. When my husband said something he said he had other rooms he could have moved us to. My husband is beyond annoyed that we got little sleep due to this when he could have changed us rooms to begin with! Lastly my husband asked for tongs and spoon for the warm breakfast items, he was handed a plastic fork. The cheese inlets were cold so we just left! Will not be back! read more

Happy and impressed to stay at the Hampton Inn in Spearfish. The property was immaculate...from the rooms, bathrooms, to the indoor pool and lobby... not a spot of dirt to be found even in the middle of winter with snow everywhere. We had so much fun playing in the untouched snow just outside of the buffet area...best snow angels ever!! The spiral slide at the pool is perfect for little ones to thrill ride over and over again. The staff were so very friendly, courteous and accommodating...especially Lawrence, Stephanie and Adam...EXCELLENT job! We will definitely stay again next time we're in town...centrally located to everything needed...WalMart, downtown and close to Chelsey Crossing. read more

The property is older and needs some repairs/cleaning. The breakfast is not good. The eggs are not real, the potatoes not breakfast food and the turkey sausage gross. No biscuits and gravy and no bacon. The waffle batter took forever to be refilled and the cut fruit looked old. The management/front desk screwed up our bill and double charged us. We have been checked out for over 24 hours now and still no refund! read more
