Our room faced the pool and that was a nightmare. Between the track racing down the hall that faced the pool and the noise, just terrible. Rooms are not at all soundproof. Toilets were small and low to the floor, not ideal if you're over 6 feet tall. At least got our squats in! Bed was hard and uncomfortable. She then patiently showed her how to handle our paperwork for a later check in. Good instructor. We had arrived several hours early so our room was not yet ready. Since we were on a 7 week, around the country, motorcycle trip, our bikes were loaded up. We asked if we could have our bags in a secured. She had us load up a cart and placed our luggage in her office. When we returned several hours later, we were already checked in and the luggage cart was already in our room. Definitely above and beyond service. The hotel itself could use a little updating but was very clean and neat. We are booked here for 4 days and are comfortable with the knowledge that the stay will be a pleasant one.

I…read morespecifically requested the Potato Creek Suite since it was our 30th anniversary and we were looking for a special experience. We were assured that we had that suite. When we arrived we discovered that the service had mis-booked our request and the lodge would not honor that room . Instead, they put us in one of their standard rooms. Since this was not satisfactory, we requested a refund. The lodge informed us that there was nothing that they could do and that we needed to reach out to the reservations service. We did this and they agreed to refund the money and sent us an email to that effect. We shared that email with the person working the desk and he agreed, cancelled our reservation, and returned our pet deposit. We found other accommodations. Today, two days later, we received an email from the reservation's service stating that the lodge had decided not to cancel this reservation so they were required to send the money to the lodge and could not credit my card. As a result, the Spearfish Canyon Lodge received $519.57 of my money after they had cancelled our reservation and we had left the hotel. My suggestion is that no one should book either this hotel. They will gladly send you sway and then later inform you that they intend to keep your fees if I could have, I would give them zero stars but, unfortunately, one is the least that I could do.

My husband and I stayed at Lookout Mountain Lodge over the 4th of July. We've stayed here several…read moreyears ago when it was Crow Peak Lodge. I was not aware of the past issues or reviews, we just needed a place to rest. My experience was decent enough to stay there again. I was tempted to reserve online but intuition kicked in and I called instead. And I'm very glad I did, when making my reservation I explained we are traveling late and would be able check in until wee hours in the morning. Well, I was accommodated with a lock box next the room with our key. All rooms are accommodated with lock boxes for late night travelers which is so convenient. And then I found out the lodge has new ownership and a management team. This dynamic duo is putting all their TLC and soul into the Lookout Mountain Lodge with renovations and the rates are reasonable. My son is a college-athlete at Black Hills State and we will be definitely making Lookout Mountain Lodge our spot for this academic year!
