A woman called me without even identifying herself and immediately said, "You left two negative reviews, and I was surprised to see you on the schedule. I wanted to make sure we were good." What exactly was I supposed to take from that? I had to ask her multiple times whose name was even on these reviews before she finally said mine. One review was from years ago, and the other was from about four months ago. During the conversation, she even acknowledged that in the more recent situation, their employee had given me incorrect information. She stated that she was new manager finally and attempt to "address the issues". So why was I being confronted about an honest review of an experience your own staff mishandled? The entire call felt less like an attempt to resolve a customer-service issue and more like an attempt to make me cancel my appointment. When I finally asked directly whether she still wanted me to bring my vehicle in, suddenly she was stumbling over her words. If you wanted my business, why call me before my scheduled appointment specifically to bring up old negative reviews and tell me you were "surprised" I was on the schedule? It also leaves me with a serious question: Is this how Hometowne Auto Repair contacts every customer who has ever left a negative review, or was I singled out as a Black woman who criticized the service she received? Customers should be able to leave honest reviews--especially when a business acknowledges its employee provided incorrect information--without wondering whether those reviews will later be held against them when they try to obtain service.
