Had a major exhaust leak and they did a good job, though was a lot. They did come in $500 under estimate, which I'm grateful for. I feel better about my car and the experience as a result. They are often booked out a week or more so you have to plan ahead. They do not do Virginia inspections. The folks are friendly and so it has retained a small town feel. They are convenient to where I live, which is a plus. I think busses run by there and it's near Wawa and the commuter lot somewhat. read more

This was my second visit to this shop. I am a 67 yo woman, and have lived from NY, NJ, GA, VA, MD, FL, SC, NC multiple times and in UT; also lived in countries overseas. I am currently back in the VA area. Many, many, many decades ago, you could find shops that were trustworthy - that would give you an honest appraisal: of work required; of work that needed to be done immediately; or could wait until a necessary repair schedule. That is not easily found nowadays as many shops/dealers take your money for: unnecessary repairs; and time and cost for early repairs. At my dealership, I spent hours (4 hrs) for an oil change for which I had an appointment; Caton not only cost me about $30 less, they completed the oil change in 30 minutes. These guys at Caton Auto are the real deal! Not only do they give me honest repair schedules, they did not on 28Sep2025 charge me to give my vehicle an overlook, which took ~30 minutes of their time. They even took the time to discuss why I felt it necessary to come in. I have so much trust in them that they have grown from my dealings with them; they have proven their business to be reliable, dependable and honest. I have watched their interactions with other customers - it is amazing to see all their customers leaving with a smile. No sharp words, no one dissatisfied. Just recently my truck was in there three times for numerous repairs. On the second trip they were doing my brakes/rotors and suspension control arms I picked up the truck and it was making this knocking on front left of truck. It's really loud and annoying and MIND YOU it wasn't making that noise before repairs So I feel they should fix the problem for free. Now all of sudden need struts for 1000.00 dollars. Did some research and found Caton's brought my car to the shop and the staff are very friendly very respectful. I am almost loathe to give this review because I want to keep the secret, but Caton's is one of the few auto repair shops around that still runs an honest business. They are always booked for weeks in advance because they have loyal customers and a sterling reputation for excellent work and honest mechanics. When I moved to Woodbridge, I was looking for a place to have my car worked on and made the mistake of going to Lake Ridge Auto. Big mistake: let me just say that they are your worst nightmare and epitomize the typical con-artists people are familiar with from shady auto repair shops. Car Doctor up the street on Minnieville is almost as bad - and don't get me started on the gas stations. Luckily, I found Caton Auto through a recommendation from a friend. On the first visit, I had a problem with a slipping belt that was making a squealing noise. Many of my friends noticed the pulley on my compressor wasn't moving and said it looked like I was going to have to replace it. Caton could have ran me through the ringer and replaced the compressor but it turned out to be only the pulley itself - A BIG DIFFERENCE. Any other mechanic would have raped me blind, but Caton saved me alot of money and they earned my loyalty. This was only the first example of how they were so honest with me and I can give you more examples with other work they have done. One of the lights on my dash came on, indicating my electric throttle needed repaired. I know nothing about cars. I drive a 2008 Sebring and have no warranty. I'm a single mom and don't have a lot of extra money for repairs. I drive by Catons every day and decided to take it there. I didn't have an appointment and just dropped it off Sunday night. I had a friend research that part etc. and told me about how much to expect to pay if it needed to be replaced if the shop isn't trying to take advantage of me. I got a call Monday afternoon saying the electrical throttle needed replaced, and the price quoted was exactly what my friend said it should be. I approved the repair and they told me it would be ready the next day. I went in to pick up my car and it was actually a few dollars less than quoted. I am very pleased; my car is running well, and I know where I'm taking it in the future. I can't afford a new car and I think that I found a garage I can trust. read more

I want to second what JP L. said. I too had been burned by a lot of mechanics, both independent (off Craigslist) & shops. I had wasted A LOT of money being scammed by these guys. BTW, I'd stay away from Craigslist mechanics. All those I encountered were con-artists who couldn't get real jobs & just stole money from people. Some of them don't even know what they're doing & will mess up your car as well. I read the reviews for Catons & decided to try them. They fixed our brakes as the rotors where messed up. It cost less than I thought it would. They took our car to get the inspection done also. It saved me time & hassle. I too, was impressed that they took the time to talk to me, explain things & actually seemed like they care about the quality of their work. They are a family oriented business & have great customer service. You can tell they care & you're not just another buck to them. They truly want to make their customers happy. I have been going here since about July of 2014, and I must say, they are one of the best people I have met in my life. I own a 1989 Dodge Dynasty, and have come in here for many repairs. Bobby and Adam have always taken care of me and have always been there to answer my questions. I have had some small jobs and some heavy jobs but they always keep me happy. The pricing is very reasonable and if there is ever an issue, all I have to do is bring her back and they will fix it. I just wish one thing, well two things, is they could do State inspection and emissions because these gas stations are not all that great. I know if my car was in here and I know I needed an inspection and there would be a problem I know they would fix it for me. Guys keep up the good work :) read more

Came in to get some maintenance items done. I usually wrench on my own cars but these jobs were difficult to do at home and you only need to do them once every few years/tens of thousands of miles. Their prices were very fair compared to the dealership. They completed the work the day of the appointment and also recommended a few items that will need addressing in the future. I started going to Caton's in 1990 when I moved to the area and they always did a great job. At some point I moved to Alexandria and started buying cars with generous bumper-to-bumper warrantees and just started using my dealerships for car maintenance. Two weeks ago I brought my car in to the dealership to get my state inspection and while I passed, they said that I needed new breaks, as well as break and transmission fluid flushes. They quoted $800 for the breaks alone - which seemed extraordinarily high. I also needed an AC charge, and a general check in preparation for a big trip we are taking. After getting a few quotes, Caton's was by far the most economical. I made an appointment, they did a fabulous job, and the total bill (including the AC, trip check, four breaks, break and transmission fluid flush) under $800. This was a fraction of the price fo the dealership. I will definitely start using them again - as they do great work, are extremely helpful and friendly, and charge a very reasonable price. read more

I came here because it was recommended to me by my Boss. Amazing Service. I made an appointment to have an oil change right when they opened. I waited for only 20mins max, speedy service and it was done properly. The price was also super reasonable. I will be returning for all other services that may car may need. The owner also seems very trustworthy as well. They do not do state inspections, but was able to direct me to a near by gas station that also completed my inspection in a very timely manner as well. If you live in the Prince William County area, I strongly recommend that you use Caton's Auto Repair to service your vehicles. We have used them for years, but I had an issue with the Vette top and took it to Ted Britt Chevy (in Sterling) Chevy told me that the motor was bad and that it would cost $2200 for the part (which I found online at GM for $1200) and another $300 to install and fix. This alone cost me $160 for their diagnostic shop time. I retrieved my car back knowing that Chevy was full of it and took it down to Caton's.... Caton's just called NOTHING needed to be replaced. They got it working fine with just a few minor adjustments. Can't tell you how thankful I am to find a reputable repair shop.
