It's a no for me, dawg. I stopped by this place bc it was conveniently located beside Auto Zone. I brought with me the code testing results that I had gotten from Auto Zone due to a check engine light. The mechanic who assisted me (I presume Steven), told me that I'd still need to have a diagnostic test run on my vehicle at that this would cost "$150-200." Puzzled, because this is extremely high for a diagnostics test, I asked again to make sure I had heard right. Then, he informed me that the diagnostic test was something like $120 dollars for the test plus another fee per hour for the labor, and all of this was exclusive of the labor. To clarify, the price to even diagnose the problem was over $200 and then I'd still have to pay whatever fee for the repair. I also asked a hypothetical along the lines of, well if this part just needs to be replaced, how much will it be to do that? He wouldn't give me an answer on that front either. I understand that that might not be the issue, but as an experienced mechanic who has likely seen the issue before, he should've been able to give me a ballpark figure. With this, I simply folded up my car code info and left. Ridiculous pricing. To put it into perspective, pep boys only charges about $100 to run a diagnostic test, and that is a corporate chain, not a mom and pop shop. Thank u, next. read more

Have been going to Steve since 1995 and have never had a problem. He sent me to the dealer when it made sense to do so and, unlike the dealers, never recommended anything unnecessary. Dealer said, you need x, y, z, Steve said you don't need any of that now. The few times I delayed taking action on his recommended repairs I did have problems within weeks or months. Ive taken my car here a few times but finally decided to leave a review. The only staff ive ever dealt with is Steven. He is extremely friendly and you get the sense you are being spoken to as a human as opposed to a potential source of income. Extremely friendly. He called me in a timely manner to inform me of the diagnosis. My total amount came out cheaper than the estimate I was given on the phone. In addition, when i came to pick up my Civic, he voluntarily swapped out the battery on my key fob free of charge without even having to ask. I told him ive been trying to open it for years since the battery died and he showed me a trick how to open it. I have a mechanic a block from me. I came in and asked for a quote on a windshield wiper switch replacement, the gentleman quoted me 800$ plus labor. I was baffled, so i left and did my homework on the part. The switch goes for a little over 100$ (maybe less if you shop right). I decided to return and i brought a printout of the part I found online. Instead of reasoning with me, he stood his ground and kept the oringinal quote. I had a few choice words for him and his business in front of other customers, while lacking class, i too stood my ground as a consumer vs. the "all-knowing, overcharging" autoshop. point is: while some of you may have your praises, please dont put it past "Stevens Auto Clinic" to uphold the stereotype of the "Greedy Auto Mechanic". I'm really surprised to see that one reviewer had problems with Steve (below). In my experience, Steve has always been the one to tell me what I **don't** need to spend money on fixing. Last fall, they thought I had some kind of engine leak problem that would take at least a grand to fix. When I showed up, they told me they had found the true cause of the problem -- the oil pan gasket, and charged me just around $250 instead. They could have charged me the full thousand and I would have paid up without being any wiser, especially since they had told me what to expect beforehand. A co-worker also brings his car here. He told me they had an issue with one car part. Steve looked up the part and discovered that there was some kind of recall / warranty that covered the necessary repairs, and told my co-worker to bring it back to the dealer for a free fix. Saved my coworker a LOT of money. I've sat in the shop for quite a few Saturday mornings waiting for my car, and I've honestly never seen so many people being **happy** walking into an auto service shop. That, plus my own experiences with the shop, convince me that this is the place to take my car. I will be disappointed if I ever move away from the area, because it's too darn difficult finding a mechanic who is not only competent, but also trustworthy. read more

I've been going to Steve for about seven or eight years now, based on a friend's recommendation, and I would never consider going anywhere else. Yes, the clinic can be pricey for some projects but that's typical of DC. The big difference is, Steve is and his staff are worth every penny. They are honest, that is a big plus for me. And, Steve will not recommend repairs on your vehicle that are not necessary. He and his staff do due diligence on your vehicle to confirm the repairs needed. And Steve is probably one of the most positive guys I know. He usually has a bunch of motivational quotes on his white board every morning. I went here a year ago for my front breaks. Steven told me at that time my rear breaks needed changing but I only wanted what I came for. He didn't pressure me about it and did as I asked. I liked that immediately. A year later my car starts making a noise so I took it back he had a mechanic test drive it but of course it didn't make the noise. While we were driving the mechanic said something was bitting didn't know what that meant. Once back inside Steven reminded me of the breaks from last year needing replacement so I agreed. The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. My husband and have used this service for 3 years. My husband handled everything: making appointment, talking to co. Rep. My husband and I would walk to plaza to kill time. Come back in about an hour and everything would be great. My husband died recently. I made appointment at Steve's by phone. Drove there w file of past service and asked what I needed. Rep. Said b/c 30k miles you need inspection, air filters, rotate tires. I asked what does inspection include? What are air filters? His reply: YOU CAN GOOGLE IT. MY TIME IS VALUABLE. I was sobbing. Said thank you and left. There were no other customers there. No one else waiting. Just me in the whole place. I don't think he is a mechanic. I think he is the customer service person. My point. He couldn't take 10-15 minutes of his precious time to explain to a new widow. It's not just him. People can't be bothered talking to people anymore. I hate this world we live in now where people won't give other people the time of day. My 80-year old neighbor's cell phone wouldn't work. I went to her place and spent an hour of my time checking this and that, Calling the company, found out she lost her credit card, got a new one w new acct no. so auto pay was declined. I bought a 2003 Lincoln Aviator which needed some work. I brought it into Steven's Auto Clinic on the advice of a buddy of mine who has been going to this shop for years. I really appreciated Steve's honest and frank assessment of the truck when I first had the shop give it a once over and estimate for the recommended repairs. I have been very pleased with the vehicle after the work Steven's Auto Shop completed. My truck is now averaging 21 mpg/hwy and 14 mpg/city. That is 4 mpg better than the official EPA Fuel Economy rating of 17 MPG/HWY! (sure not great to begin with ... but I don't drive all that much so the low mileage is not an issue). I was very impressed with the professionalism of the shop and the repair cost was very reasonable. I would highly recommend Steven's Auto Clinic to anyone looking for a very professional, competent, and reasonable mechanic. Great and honest service. Steven is extremely accommodating and helpful, plus his garage does great work. I try to take my vehicle here as much as possible, however in the few instances I have needed work done out of town (college), I have been able to call Steven and get his opinion on service and pricing. The car that I purchased had been involved in a significant front on collision that was never reported to Carfax and I therefore deemed it a lemon. Steve worked on my Ford Escape and Subaru Impreza. On the latter, dashboard lights lit up like a Christmas tree. While I can't say it was cheap, Steve diagnosed the problem, got it fixed, then when the lights started showing up again days later, fixed it again --- for good and for free, even though it required another part.
