    Tempura donburi
    Amy Y.

Looks like they have gone through some changes with their menu and offerings. When we first came the menu focused on donburi's. While they still do this they now have introduced a mini buffet of sides and desserts. If you order a rice bowl the mini buffet is included. If you only want the mini buffet it's $20.00. Because of this all the prices have gone up. Price range of rice bowls start at 21.00 and go up depending on your toppings. What you can find at the mini buffet: Rice Miso soup Takoyaki Potato Croquettes Salads Variety of pickled vegetables ie: radish, cucumber and kimchi Orange wedges Ice cream - green tea and vanilla Quality of the kimchi, cucumber and radish was disappointing, lacking flavour. Someone at the table went with a chicken karaage donburi and the portion of chicken and rice were very generous. The tempura donburi was a little disappointing. The vegetables included were all root based (pumpkin and sweet potato) with a couple of pieces of mushroom. It would have been nice to have zucchini and broccoli to be included in the mix. Regardless the portion was generous. Not sure the mini buffet is worth it though. So again...not quite a 4 but a little better than a 3.

. lots of free seating available . heard alot of good reviews about the location at fairview mall but this place left us quite disappointed . we both got don's but bad portion sizings (not too much sashimi but 80% rice) . the taste of sashimi is just mediocre, not the freshest or the worst . the appetizers were quite disappointing . the purple yam croquettes were not what to be expected, so plain tasting . and the skewers were more onion flavour if anything, even with the happy hour pricing- wouldnt recommend . the service was nice just one server available . the place is well lit and surrounded by many other gems

Service was great! Beers (Sapporo) was super cold, I love that! The bowls were tasty with freshness. Ever since tasting fresh Wasabi, sushi isn't the same for me without it, but that's my problem. So back to the sushi bowls, good portions especially with the combo. You get a good variety.

Hanadon is a solid spot for Japanese donburi (rice bowls). We tried the chashu don and a roll which were both pretty good. Service is attentive and friendly.

I ordered the Hokkaido Don - Uni, ikura, hokkaido scallop, shiitake on premium sushi rice Seafood was good. Scallops weren't sliced properly, still stuck together. Rice did not taste premium nor have the stickiness and texture I look for. Service was good. I liked the clean, modern interior. I might come back to try a different donburi and hope the rice is better.

First time at this location, its a bit small but service was great, and the food was fresh and tasty. Most dishes are on the average to reasonable price but if you want the more premium seafoods it can get expensive.

I feel like I come here every time I have a long day lol. This time I ordered the Hokkaido Don. At first I was skeptical of the rice portion because it seemed like there was way too much in comparison to the ikura / uni / tamago / scallops, but it was just right. I think this is the first time I was able to finish the whole dish in the restaurant without feeling overly stuffed. Service was as usual - friendly and quick, and I came on a Friday evening ~7pm. It was half empty in the restaurant, and the music was top tier.

Found this place on yelp and was within walking distance from the CN tower/Aquarium (~1 mile away). My family and I love Japanese cuisine and this place did not disappoint! We ordered the Salmon Avocado Bowl, Nagoya Bowl, and Unagi Bowl. Protein portion was very fair, there was a lot of rice in the bowl though. Flavor was on point as well and I didn't feel like I needed a lot of soy sauce for my bowl, which was great. Each donburi bowl also comes with a free miso soup! Service was quick and friendly. We didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out and staff was very warm and welcoming. The vibe definitely took us back to our time in Japan, so it was a pretty positive experience. Affordable donburi bowls are difficult to find, so it was nice to try this out and luckily it tasted great too. It is located in DT Toronto, so parking is a hassle, most garages have rates $22-$45 a day, so it's just a matter of finding the most affordable option in the area. Overall, we had a great experience and I wouldn't mind checking it out again!

This is a great little restaurant near Yonge-Dundas serving Donburi and Japanese dishes. Their service is great and our food was brought to us promptly. I tried their Bara Don which had a variety of fresh sushi grade fish, tamago, cucumber, and a delicious sauce over a bed of rice. It was surprisingly flavourful and filling.

$68 CAD, wow best thing I've had in a while

Uni & Ikura Don ($68 CAD) - Uni was from boston and wow. Very sweet, very high quality, super fresh. One of the best Unis I've had to be honest and you know it was good because it was smaller in shape. Ikura was marinated perfectly and not fishy or overly salty. The most impressive part was the rice. It was flavored with some mushrooms which gave it a great umami and sweet balanced flavor. This bowl comes with miso soup, seaweed and cucumber for wrapping. The tamago was a bit too airy for me but great to save for a sweet pallet cleanser at the end of your meal. Even their water had a hint of lemon in it, this small things all accumulate. Service was super attentive and sweet. Very helpful. This place is great for solo eaters as well as they have a side of the restaurant, set up similarly to a bar seating, where a lot of people came to eat alone. It was quite nice and accomodating since I travel alone quite a bit. It was quite busy on a thursday night but I was able to squeeze in. You can make reservations on yelp or their website. Fried Oysters ($13 CAD) this was not worth it. The oysters were sweet and fresh for sure.. however the batter was not it. It was undercooked and mushy, didn't go well with the oyster at all so I plucked out the oyster to eat by themselves and then it tasted good. The sauce that comes with it was a donkatsu type of sauce which was overpowering for fried oysters. Doesn't compliment it well but overall the quality of oysters they used was good still! I highly recommend come treating yourself here. I love that the menu has clear, and beautiful pictures of their sets. All these things combined really just made it a great dining experience. Treat yoself here, i'm definitely coming back to try more of their rice bowls.

    Large premium Hana Don

I came here upon a coworkers recommendation, and it was also close to my workplace. I came during lunch and so it was a little bit busy and longer wait. I got the large premium Hana Don combination that came with miso soup. I brought it back to the office and to eat, and it was delicious. I was flavorful and had a very tasty sauce with it.

    Lobster kaisen don
    David Y.

Good variety and quality donburi, though a bit small portion-wise. Got the lobster kaisen don (lobster with scallops, uni and other seafood) and unatama don (unagi with tamago). Both were fresh, had tasty combinations, and a pretty good protein-to-rice ratio. Also got the pickled baby octopus which was a quick and interesting appetizer with how chewy and pickle-y it was. Service was efficient. Vibe was casual. And while there was a line when we got there, it seemed to move quickly as we got seated within a few minutes (they do accept reservations). Overall, Hana Don is a great spot to try if you want different combination donburis.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else.
