We have enjoyed both Japanese and Korean bbq places around the world and loved our experience at Gyubee. There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! Came in not expecting much-- despite the great reviews, I was skeptical on account of having poor all-you-can-eat bbq experiences before. I ended up being super impressed by the quality and tatse of the dishes! Some of our faves included the garlic marinated brisket and the rib-eye. Meat was good quality and there were lots of options for side dishes, such as sushi, chicken wings, or your more typical kimchi/beansprouts/spinach etc. It is BUSY, be prepared to wait. You can make a reservation with 6 people but you'll still wait a bit. Loud, but vibey! Servers were very attentice and super patient. Where improvement could be made, honestly, is upgrading to an ipad or some sort of ordering system. Gyubee Dundas was a great experience! They have been around awhile the "now open" signage is old. It's always a busy and popular spot. The location is amazing, easy to get to by transit and near shopping and other entertainment spots. Great place to get a bite to eat. They do take reservations for groups 6+, just call or leave a number and they will let you know where you are in line and message you when its your turn, 5 minutes to claim the table though. We were here with 6 people on a Wednesday night, we called ahead and got a table in 30+ minutes and ordering was fast. The space is good, with lots of stoves and tables. Staff is quick and attentive. You do need the server to order items for you, the menu is on a QR code. If the server is busy, ask any of the staff for assistance. Staff is also super knowledgeable on ingredients and allergies, they were able to keep meats separated on two tables and let us know what items might include those ingredients. Since everything is prepared, our orders came out pretty much right away and started grilling soon after. A reminder that all grills have flame controls on the side to avoid flare-ups. This location wasn't smoky at all, their ventilation was great and it didn't feel hot or muggy. We had the standard AYCE plus a pitcher ($20 of beer, which worked out to be 4 glasses). The meats were all good and the side dishes were fresh and refilled as needed/on request. The sushi was ok only, stick to the BBQ options. The chicken wings were very good too. For dessert, they offer individual servings of vanilla and chocolate as well as creme brulee (a must try). Gyubee is one of my go to places for Japanese BBQ. It's a fun spot to take friends and family for a unique dinning experience. It's an all you can eat with a combination of items that you need to cook on the grill and pre-cooked items such as chicken wings, sushi and pickled Korean side dishes. Some of my recommended dishes would be the calms, salmon, beef short ribs and pork belly! We recently went and got the Nagoya style chicken and they were so good, juicy, crispy and perfectly seasoned. I'd also recommend the deep fried rice cakes as a not too sweet, crispy and chewy dessert. The service is very quick and there are staff constantly around to get a hold of. Note that the seating limit is 2 hours, which starts the moment you sit down. They are quite busy and popular so I'm not surprised that is the case. Staff are super friend and understanding though, and make it clear we understand their limitations. I came a bit early and had to wait on other people to arrive and they were super understanding and allowed me to wait to be seated until everyone arrived to start our timer. Note that they don't do reservations for parties 5 and less, but they do have a waitlist. We were able to call in to put our name on the waitlist so that when we arrived, our table would be ready at approximately the time we wanted. I really appreciated that. I have been to Gyubee several times, both their downtown Toronto and Mississauga location. Both quite popular and always a good time. read more

You get your choice of a lot of the better meats, plus two sushi rolls, and I didn't feel like I was missing things from the all-day menu. This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. I loved the variety of beef and especially glad they included unlimited beef tongue in the standard $46 a person. I enjoyed all the sides we got including butter corn, mushroom medley, cold noodles, and the steamed clams. The marinate on some of the meats is strong so you probably need rice or a noodle. The service was very nice. I got there around 4:15 on a Friday and there was no wait for 2 people. I would say a line started by around 5. I will recommend this spot to other friends. read more

I dont know how many time I've been in Gyubee but by far, this dundas st location topped among other locations. The servers are attentive and they know how to tend to their customers! They made it easy for us to have more space given the size of the table and the amount of small plates from the orders. We went at 5pm on a Sunday and the waitlist was just 10minutes, but I still recommend using it as this place is packed everytime I've walked by. For $45 per person plus tax and tip you get to choose from a variety of beef, pork, chicken, lamb, seafood, and side dishes. The prime Kalbi, lamb, sweet potato, cabbage salad, pumpkin soup, and creme brulee were ordered during multiple rounds. Minor cons would be that there are no plant based protein options to grill, the ice cream was very icy instead of rich and creamy, and multiple items were out-of stock including the Hokkaido pudding, potato crisps, and fried rice cakes. Our server checked in on us frequently to help us order more rounds which was great. Every table was filled. Despite coming at more early dinner hours, it was quite busy so I highly recommend putting your name on the waitlist early in advance through Yelp. AYCE Dinner: Totally worth the experience! The menu options were significantly more options compared to the lunch (especially if you're looking for a more special occasion especially if you like beef). The meats were high quality and great portions per serving. There were a lot of servers so you really don't feel like you have to wait around for one. They had a few seasonal items to their menu like the pumpkin soup. The desserts were amazing especially the creme brûlée. In comparison with other places, the price is totally worth for the high quality meat and service. Perfect spot to go to if you're craving high quality J-BBQ. However, make sure you have cash or debit as that is the only payment options they take. Ideally better to make reservations in advance if you have a much larger group as the waitlist does take some time. My 8 yo son wanted the California rolls but they don't make them there so I saw something similar but it had avocado and sauce on top which I requested for the rolls to be made without the sauce and avocado because my son is allergic to avocado ( it causes him severe itch.) Since the rolls are freshly made I figured that wouldn't be a problem; after all, they're not premade which the manager confirmed herself. However, she said, "will not and cannot make any alterations to the food even if we requested it." To my surprise I was furious by her response and the lack of caring for us consumers. First time trying this place and on our last night at Toronto On a Saturday night, it's best to go on the Yelp app and put your name on the wait list and the sooner you can do this the better. When we did get seated, the waiter said last kitchen call was at 1020 pm so we basically had two chances to order meats. They give you 2 hours to eat if you went for lunch or any time earlier, but for us, we had less than an hour to eat. They were fast to bring the meats and didn't limit us what to get. We got a lot of meats so after awhile, it was hard what me and wife put in th grill. Also, they only accept cash or debit. There was an atm at the restaurant to get Canadian money which I didn't see any review mention. 5 stars for the food and service. Me and my wife got meat sweats for all the over ordering of meats. We paid cash so there was a discount. Bill came out to be 99 cad for 2 people and 2 sodas. Left 120 cad for tip but no receipt given and they asked this around 1050 pm to pay but still was eating. We have great yakiniku and KBBQ in Los Angeles so the bar is set high. For a multi location restaurant, Gyubee checks all the boxes and then some. Value for money, for the quality of ingredients and presentation, is amazing. The variety of not only meats but interesting veggie and seafood foil pack dishes kept things interesting throughout the meal. Cooked side dishes and decent sushi rolls are also offered for a change of pace. Then 3 dessert options to boot. The service is especially worth mentioning. Considering there was a line out the door on a Monday, our servers Karen and Julia kept up the pace of ordering and brought things out sometimes within minutes of ordering. From the clever table divider system (you'll see when you get there) to the thoughtfully designed menu, this place is a well oiled machine.
