This place held its own in terms of the food. I tried a good variety of appetizers, sushi, maki, and sushi pizza, all very good. The problem was with the service. They are more of a classic AYCE establishment, using pencil and paper for ordering. That's fine. But when needing to turn in our papers to order, we were no longer able to see what we had ordered to be able to confirm with staff, but a couple of items just never made it to our table. In addition, the service is quite slow. We'd have long pauses between getting things. This was a Friday night at an AYCE location, there weren't a ton of staff AND they got a continuous stream of takeout orders walking in to pick up. This quite obviously slowed them down. I'm not sure why they wouldn't restrict busy nights (weekends) to just their AYCE service. This being said, they were kind and everything, not rude, just slow! Overall though, I will be going again. I have been here on multiple occasions. The service has been a hit and miss everytime. Sadly I have had such horrible experiences with service I always question myself if I should go back or not. The reason this place gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that they have a lunch menu and price separate from the dinner. Almost everything I like and eat at a sushi restaurant is on the dinner menu only so I always have to pay the full price. Also like most all you can eat places this place is very strict on the policy *don't eat it, you still pay for it*. So don't think about trying anything new because you may end up paying a hefty bill all because you wanted to experience a new flavour. On the best note about this restaurant, it has some of the best sushi in London. Taste Is incredible and the freshness is unbeatable. Such a good price for this amazing quality food. I went all you can eat with my boyfriend. The restaurant wasn't busy at all other than the to go orders so if you're looking for a quiet place for a date This is the place. The tuna spicy crispy rolls were my favourite, my boyfriend loved their green dragon rolls because of the fresh tempura shrimp inside. We decided to check out Hanata when some of our typical sushi places were closed on a late Sunday afternoon. We should have checked the menu first as we didnt realize it was AYCE and $21 a person. Either way, we went for it. Upon walking in we weren't greeted with the cheery hello's from behind the counter that we are typically used to from other sushi joints. Either way, we were seated quickly. The seats could use some TLC. The white leather were covered in spots and the benches had a lot of wear and tear. Overall, I enjoyed the cute decorations and kawaii feel of the pink cherry blossoms around the room and on the menu. The green tea was flavourful and quite warm which was nice. Lately a few places we have been to the tea has been weak and sometimes cold. Upon submitting our sheet for our order, our seaweed salad took maybe 30 seconds to come out. It was really yummy. We gobbled it right up and then we waited for the rest of our food to come. For an AYCE restaurant we were expecting the food to come out a bit faster considering we only ordered a few sushi pieces and 2 rolls. The rolls were fairly large in size so beware if you are thinking of getting a few different kinds. Don't waste food! The sushi was quite good here. They have butter fish and it was so delicious. They kind of overdid it on the spicy-mayo on the spicy butterfish sushi but I was able to scrape some off without ruining it too much. I'd say for the price (about $30 per person with tip), I would expect a bit more. The service wasn't anything extraordinary and was slow at times. The food was good. I've seen some iffy reviews on here but everything looked and tasted fresh. Overall, it just was okay. I may go here for lunch or dinner during off-times to get a cheaper price but I dont think I will pay that much to eat here again. It's absolutely delicious and the presentation is stunning and creative (roses with salmon sashimi, I was blown away!) I agree with the reviewer who said they are not very accommodating. I often come with a larger group (not everyone wanted AYCE). They were very difficult about it and would look over our table/stand by to ensure that those who didn't get AYCE did not join in. It was ridiculously rude - we are all adults here; nobody is that sketchy... plus they separated us anyway, why excessively monitor like that? You think we're thieves? TL;DR: AYCE - 3/5, lower quality, service a bit slow. However, less expensive than other AYCE places in London, so this is taken into consideration. If it was equally priced, I would say 2.5/5. Equivalent to the quality of a sushi restaurant in a smaller town. A-La-Carte - 5/5, amazing portions, fresh, flavourful, consistent, best variety and quality as well as cost in London. I have had Hanata Sushi numerous times. I would not be lying if I said I have spent over $2000 there in total in the past 4 years I have lived in London. (That's not just for me though, I have ordered for friends too) Firstly, their dine-in AYCE experience is very different from their a-la-carte experience (which I have typically ordered delivery via sites like Just Eat and once came in for take-out). DINE IN ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT The interior of the restaurant is a bit run down and dark due the paint. It could use a refresh, the booth seats are rather worn in, and the mudroom/entry is always very dusty. Their AYCE menu is priced cheaper than the others in London. The quality of the food is mediocre, which I was originally surprised with because I was only familiar with their a-la-carte. The miso soup is definitely somewhat watered down and I'm unsure if they use a dashi stock as the base, and just use miso paste (you can really notice the difference compared to the take out miso soup). The fish in the maki rolls aren't quite as fresh. The reason I tend to come here for AYCE still is when I want to eat a lot of sushi, but don't want to spend quite as much. If you are fine to spend the extra ~$10 for AYCE, I would recommend going to Heart if you want better quality. A-LA-CARTE/TAKEOUT I have never, ever had a poor experience with their a-la-carte menu. They consistently provide high quality sushi as well as hot food. They have had the lowest cost compared to other a-la-carte sushi restaurants in London, but the quality has always been better in my experience. Compared to other restaurants, the selection for fish and hot food is very good. You can't get super "premium" kinds of fish like ikura, uni, or tuna belly. However, they still provide yellow tail, scallop, and tuna. Also, the pieces tend to be larger and fresher than other restaurants, as well as priced less expensive. For example, a standard sashimi combo will have several kinds of fish with 3 slices each. However, they will provide you more than three if the slice or type of fish is rather thin to compensate (i.e they will provide 4-5 pieces of surf clam) They have always maintained a high standard of quality, they've never forgotten anything I've ordered, and if there is a type of fish they have ran out of (which is rare), they will call and offer a replacement of the same price range if you wish. There have been circumstances in the past where I have purchased VERY large orders later in the evening, and at bizarre days of the week (Tuesday at 9:00pm? no problem) and they still delivered the quality they have consistently held. Having previously worked in the food industry, I know this can be difficult to maintain (and also incredibly annoying) but they have been excellent. read more

We were a large group here for our friends birthday party and most people wanted all you can eat and one person wanted the a la carte menu. There were no others in the restaurant. However they apparently have a rule that everyone must order all you can eat and nobody can order a la carte. Every other sushi restaurant accommodates without any hesitation. Even after 4 people tried to reason with the employees they did not budge and lost a paying customer. Its a reflection on their views of their customers, suspecting they are untrustworthy and we did not appreciate their lack of customer service. This is an average quality ayce sushi place. Reasonable selection of menu items, good price, service is hit or miss, fountain drinks are also all you can drink. Cons: 1) On several occasions I couldn't get the spider rolls because they were "out of those", which was disappointing. 2) They also do have a tendency to miss some order items. 3) When my friend and I were brought way more pieces than we had ordered of an item, they did not want to take it back even though we told the server before they even put down the plate onto our table. However, they did eventually reluctantly cooperate. That having been said, I haven't been there in person for almost a year now so things may have changed. I usually get takeout from them now which is again average. I've been coming to this place since Nov 2012. Neither me or my companions are big fan of " All you can eat " and we use "la carte/ menu. We usually order " Green and Gold dragons" and the Make sets. The arrangement is very beautiful and the taste is just awesome and the sauce they use with the sushi is very unique. We visited many places as Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, PEI, Calgary, and nothing took our taste away as this place. The Service during the week is Excellent. We tried few Sats and it was very good. We visited 1 friday last year and the service was annoyingly slow and we decided to avoid Fridays. We keep comping back coz the sushi is soo good and so yummy. The price is very good and in the range of other sushi places ( actually most of the sushi places are more expensive ). Try the dragons next time and compare it to other places and you can tell the difference. Yes, will go back to Hanata sushi. read more

My friends and I have been attending Hanata Sushi house for the past three years for lunch, we have mostly enjoyed the food and the service and the reasonable price. Unfortunately, after today's experience we will no longer be dining at Hanata. While we were eating, we noticed a bug crawling along the upper back side of the bench we were sitting on, in an effort not cause a scene and draw attention we discretely killed the bug, at which time we noted the bug was a cockroach. The waitress was delivering food to our table and we politely told her we had just killed a cockroach and provided her with the evidence; folded up napkin with dead cockroach. Obviously uncomfortable by the fact that we had just killed a cockroach and knowing with cockroaches there typically is not just one we had some additional dishes delivered so we simply advised the waitress we would not be ordering any more food. We gathered up our stuff and when I advised the waitress we would not be paying for our meal given the above information she stated she could only offer a 15% discount. She further advised that the restaurant is frequently sprayed for vermin and that the cockroach was not the restaurants fault. The waitress then advised if we did not pay she would call the police, at this time we agreed to pay for half of our bill which the waitress accepted, however NEVER again we will dine at Hanata. read more

3.5 Stars. Not bad, not bad at all. I was a tad skeptical from the reviews but a friend persuaded me for it. The menu wasn't extensive as some of the other AYCE joints I've been to. but decent. The server was really nice and quite frankly the sushi took barely anytime to get to us. The Sashimi of Salmon and Butter Fish was delicious as was the Red Snapper Sushi. Miso Soup / Seaweed Salad again, same taste but nice. I wasn't a big fan of their beef rolls / skewers or teriyaki either beef of chicken, but the short ribs were amazing! I've been to Hanata House numerous times and usually I am pleased. Last night I ordered take out and I was disappointed that they used an avocado gone bad to top my sushi pizza. The sushi roll I ordered was fine, but the rotten avocado was upsetting, as it was clearly rotten and they should have noticed that and not used it. I also noticed last time that they changed their cheese wontons. They used to have a delicious gooey centre but now have barely anything inside and what is inside is a weird texture of cheese. It seems the reviews thus far have been mixed and our experience was pretty much the same as others who gave this 3 stars. We were seated promptly and asked about drinks right away. So far so good. Our drinks and miso soup arrived very quickly. Looking promising. Our server came and collected our first order and brought us some of what we had ordered. I found the edamame overlooked and wasn't a fan of the veggie gyoza, but the sashimi was good - we ordered the salmon, butter fish and red snapper. When our sever came by with the rest of our order, she didn't know what was ours and what belonged to another table. I'm pretty sure we ended up with their tempura sauce in the end. When my friend had finished his drink, she asked if he wanted a refill, but neglected to notice that my tea was also empty. She seemed confused when I asked if I could also get a refill. We ordered a second, smaller round and I included desert. The sashimi showed up promptly, but my desert was missing. 20 minutes later, our server came by with our order paper and asked if it belonged to us. Desert finally showed up. The red bean ice cream was worth waiting for. When we went to the front to pay, the guy had no idea which table we were at and charged us for two ice teas (one of us had green tea and the other had green tea and a coke).
