Not legit Vietnamese spot. Ordered something simple like a Vietnamese coffee. And they give a mixture of Thai and Viet coffee. They pre-Mix the coffee and cream then just added condensed milk. Ordered their Grilled Chicken Bahn Mi to go and it was so good! The chicken was marinated really well and the pickled veggies added a nice acidity to the savory. A cold Saturday called for some good pho...saw some good reviews for this place, walked by and thought I'd give it a try. I've had pho all over the country and this place definitely made the bad-list. Ordered beef pho, tofu spring rolls and a jasmine tea. Beef pho was bland with chunks of fat and at one point I bit into something hard and almost choked. The tofu spring rolls had more mint in them then a mojito, and the tea tasted like dish soap. Not worth the $20 at all... Let's not forget that it turns your stomach upside down. I will not be going back nor do I suggest you go there, at least not to eat the pho and rolls. I would give this a 10 if I could. I went to this shop a few months ago. Every time I go here there is excellent service. I love all their drinks and their food selection is amazing! I would also like to say that if your going here you should get the shredded chicken sandwich,I would definitely recommend that, you can pick any spice level you want. I used to come here fairly often for the tofu sandwich, and loved it. Today, after a few years, I was reunited with my beloved sandwich and I have to say that I was disappointed. The pickled veggies were as delicious as I remembered, but the tofu itself was so bland! I wonder what happened - maybe the new vegetarian meat options are more spicy and so they made the tofu a blander option? I don't know, but I hope the old tofu recipe comes back. Really love the spicy shredded chicken banh mi here. I know people prefer Henry's, but I disagree. Think they give a good proportion of chicken, and the french roll is well toasted. One thing I need to say though - DO NOT get pho from here. When you see pho options of shrimp, chicken, and beef you know somethings up. The noodles suck and they give you barely any meat. Hancos is a lifesaver. When I mean lifesaver, I mean that it saves me from having to go all the way to Chinatown for some Vietnamese food, and to me--that's frickin' lifesaving. There's plenty of good food around Park Slope--sidewalk cafes, mom and pop restaurants, and even superstars like Talde not too far away. But when I'm in the mood for something fast, fresh, and tasty--Hanco's is where you'll find me. As someone who has been told to go to Hanco's for years, I thought it would never live up to the hype. But I finally made it in over the weekend and it was totally worth the wait. Speaking of waits, It was 3:30 on a Saturday and the line for the counter had to have been 10 deep. I ordered the classic (because how else are you going to judge banh mi accurately?) with an Original Bubble Tea. Found a seat and sat down to people watch for a few minutes while they made my order. Again, with the wait. Most banh mi places will have your sandwich ready within a minute or two due to sheer volume and turnover, but I guess Hanco's was backed up a bit. Took about 5-10 minutes to get my very simple order. The classic banh mi sandwich was worth every penny (at $6.50, it also cost a bit more than most places, even those in Manhattan). It was far from a foot-long baguette, but what it lacked in bread size, it made up for with the content of its character (sorry, couldn't resist. It is Black History Month, after all). The mayo slathered on the two types of pork was just the right mixture. The bread was toasted very well, and there was a decent amount of pickled vegetables (though I could've used more). The bubble tea, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. Again, also more expensive than a lot of places in either Brooklyn or Manhattan Chinatown. It just wasn't anything special. Couldn't really make out how good the tea was, and way too much ice. Just phoning it in, I guess. Other than that, the space is clean and very nice. Oh banh mi. The delicious and dependable workhorse of a sandwich. For a quality banh mi in Park Slope it's a coin toss between Hanco's and Henry's though I tend to find Hanco's loads their sandwiches with more carrots so take this one if you like an overloaded sandwich. The bubble teas are a little more substantial in flavor and body too. I often refer to this place as Stanko's because there's always this really strong odor of cilantro and some other acrid thing. I've been a long time fan of Hanco's, they're not my go to banh mi spot only because they are pricier than other Vietnamese sandwich spots in Chinatown. While they cost more than other places, they're definitely not skimpy on the filling in their sandwiches like some places are. You can choose the level of spiciness in your sandwich. If you ask for spicy you get both hot sauce and jalapeños I believe. A lot of other places you get it with jalapeños or without, I like that you can have it medium spicy with just hot sauce. Their sandwiches seem to have a decent amount of sauce. I do think that their ground pork isn't as roasted or bbq'd as some other places though. They have a lot of different sandwiches besides the classic one with pork and Vietnamese ham. They have vegetarian meat as well, and the choice of white or dark meat chicken for their chicken choices. They also offer a wide range of salads and also have pho which I haven't tried. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is good, bubble tea is decent. During covid, they're doing takeout, you can order there, online or through the phone. They have a couple of tables outside. When your order is ready they leave the bag with your name labeled on it on their table at the entrance. There is minimal contact with any staff member unless you are ordering there which seems like you need to wave them down for their attention. This is my favorite viet sandwich place! Big chunks of chicken! Bread is soft and warm! Pair it with my favorite strawberry greentea bubble tea, I'm in heaven! I love sriracha sauce but I can't handle too much spice so medium hot is perfect for me! Hanco's is like a little cute cafe shop. We ordered the classic banh mis, one with medium spicy and cilantro and one with mild spicy with no cilantro. The sandwiches are great, loaded with an equal ratio of pork and radish and the mild spicy was basically not spicy at all. I tried the vegan pork sandwich and the classic pork sandwich and both tasted distinct and delicious in their own way. They were the best Vietnamese sandwiches I've ever had. The vegan pork is flavored fried bean curd and tastes like its specialty counterpart at high rated Buddhist vegetarian restaurants. The real pork is made up of ground pork plus 2 pieces of ham, and comes spicier than the vegan pork despite both orders being mild. Both combinations worked very well with the cilantro, shredded carrots and turnip, and sauce mix. The bread is heated and crunchy but not so hard that it hurts your teeth. What made the experience better was the relaxed and child-friendly atmosphere that mirrored the neighborhood. The interior of the restaurant looks like bunch of random sized wooden picnic tables thrown into a brick loft. There are no waiters so those who choose to dine-in are self-seated. The staff is made up of English speaking Cantonese workers. A full staff of about 8 workers were present during my visit for a late weekend lunch and all pulled their weight to ensure the lines moved along quickly. I absolutely love Vietnamese food and was thrilled when a friend suggested this place. The item I ordered however was completely inedible. I have a food allergy, so the item needed to be adjusted slightly (one less ingredient). Normally, I would just make a mental note to not revisit or order that particular item, but I had to speak up. Since I was seated outdoors, I went inside and spoke with the staff at the cash wrap. I kindly explained the situation to which one of the workers replied, 'well you still have to pay for it', 'if you get another one, you have to pay for it', and 'no one has ever complained before'. Y'all, I was stunned at the lack of basic customer service. In shock, I returned to my table with my item completely untouched with the exception of the first try. Just as my party finished their meal, I went back inside and calmly explained to them how completely rude their response was. The item was $5. They reacted as if I finished a three course meal and demanded my money back. I just wanted a replacement. When the waiter came with our check, she apologized. After exploring Prospect park, I was craving viet food, so I decide to try Hanco's. I was worried that it would be awkward if it was a traditional restaurant setting, having to ask for a table for one. But the environment is very cute; the food is served over the counter and then self seating. I ordered the coconut green tea bubble tea, a chicken (dark meat) Banh Mi and the combo roll (1 garden roll and 1 summer roll). The roll was really good and was definitely fresh; it goes very well with the peanut sauce! It was my first time trying the coconut green tea bubble tea, the taste is exactly what it is; no powdery feel. The banh mi was good, love the carrots and the raddish. If I'm around that area again, will definitely try out the other variations. Couldn't give a it a five star because of the bathroom. It's not bad but the window was right next to the toilet. Decent enough little place. Went here and got a Thai bubble tea. The tea itself was good and the bubbles were well made and not dry in the center, which is hard to achieve. I finished the whole thing in one sitting! The chicken was so juicy and tender and the bread was fluffy and crispy. They also use some type of white sauce with the chicken that reminds me of the sauce in chicken over rice carts. It's so gooooood.
