Cartilage or something. Rubbery and inedible from their Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
    Davina B.

Low quality banh mi imo. $10.34 per sandwich - I ordered a grilled chicken and a shredded chicken, extra spicy with jalapeños. No sriracha. + bread was not toasted and very chewy. Wasn't good. + each half of the sandwich had ONE sliver of jalapeño. Really? Super disappointing bcuz I asked for extra spicy just not with sriracha and specified jalapeños.. + grilled chicken - weird pieces of chicken (cartilage extra chewy) barely any mayo on the bread. Barely any edible meat. As mentioned - one sliver of jalapeño. +shredded chicken - more like boiled chicken cut up into pieces. It wasn't shredded. Sad one little jalapeño per half. Bread was dry and too chewy. Overall, I won't patronize lotus again. $21 (10.34+tax) for two low quality poor tasting banh mi? No thanks.

Ordered 2 classic bahn mi for me and a friend to enjoy at a bar that closed food service for the day. It didn't disappoint and worked well with soaking up the alcohol. The baguette was nice a crunchy but wasn't too dry. It had a good amount of bbq pork which I enjoy. I ordered a spicy but I would've enjoyed if it was a bit spicier. It was a small spot that was about to close but food came out quick and more people kept walking in to order food.

Beef Pho made with .... romaine lettuce???!!!

This was easily the WORST PHO I have ever had!!! The broth was tasteless, the noodles mushy and the meat was sliced thick and pre-cooked so it was tough and chewy. But the most egregious flaw was the fact that the noodles were sitting on a bed of Romaine Lettuce! Yes! Not bean sprouts, Romaine Lettuce. Ugh!!! I'm traumatized to have wasted my money on this lunch. Never again, Lotus!! Who are you trying to fool with this excuse for Pho? I'm embarrassed for you.

Grilled Chicken Sandwich ($8.50) and Summer Rolls ($5.95)

I was craving some banh mi that wasn't pork, so I was happy when I saw Lotus had grilled chicken on the menu. I ordered the Grilled Chicken (dark meat) Sandwich ($8.50) and Summer Rolls ($5.95). I wasn't a fan of the bread as it was on the dry side, unless you prefer that. But the chicken, was the complete opposite. Juicy, chunky, and drenched in slightly spicy sauce. They also gave plenty of vegetables. The sandwich was a very generous portion size overall. The Summer Rolls were so good! They were big and tasted so fresh. I particularly love the rice paper they used as nothing really fell apart easily. This might be my favorite summer rolls by far. Dark meat chicken is definitely a good alternative to pork in banh mis, so bless Lotus for offering this option.

I struggled for this rating. Their drinks and food are not the best. I noticed that in NYC, Vietnamese food is either not good or really expensive for the best. Overall, I ordered the milk tea with tapioca ($4.50) and the vegetarian chicken sandwich super spicy ($7.95). Both were presented fair. For the sandwich, I still prefer Ba Xuyen, but Lotus is closer to Atlantic Barclays. I would come back mainly for their sandwiches. Not a knock on Lotus, but I notice majority of Vietnamese places source their bread from the same supplier. It is usually between soft and crunchy. I love crunchier bread for the banh mi especially if it is toasted.

Food was great! We had the tofu and beef Pho. Both were very tasty. I was excited about having the opportunity to get some bubble tea. There were all sorts of flavors: almond, taro, honeydew, coconut, coffee, vanilla and mocha. I had the coconut and liked it so much that I drank it so quickly that I wished I could have had seconds. We also tried the grilled pork sandwich. That was a good size, enough to be able to share. The dining area was small, but I guess typical for the area. It was quiet. We enjoyed the Christmas carols during the Christmas season. It was soft enough so that we could hold a conversation. They also have take out. That will be convenient because my son lives around the corner. I'm sure they will become regulars, especially during the winter months.

The service was okay - it was obvious the server was brand new/still in training so I'm sure he'll get better and congrats to him on the new job! Btw, in case you were wondering this place is NOT Vietnamese-owned, or at least the server + the host + some workers in the back were not, or perhaps they're trilingual. In any case, I was a little sad about that because there really is a lack of good Viet food in NY so although other ethnicities are more than welcome to own places not of their own ethnicities, I was just hoping to find more Viet-owned Viet food businesses. That being said, I got pho bo vien (which I suppose now I know why there's no Vietnamese text on the menu... so this is the viet meatball pho??) and it was okay. Nothing bad, nothing special, probably a bit too pricey for what you get. I was hoping for some comfort food since this location is nearby. The broth was overall fine after adding some hoisin sauce and Sriracha. Unsure if I'll come again... the convenient location for me is probably the main selling point

Definitely get the lychee if you are unsure as that is what the worker recommended when i asked. The dumplings were small but yummy with their homemade sauce. I wish they were bigger but no other complaints. The baguette was perfectly crisp on the outside while staying light enough to bite through. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful, the fillings were generous, and the pate added so much rich, savory flavor. I also loved that they chop up the cilantro, so you're not spending a whole minute trying to chew through the stems. Everything was packed together so well that the sandwich held its shape from the first bite to the last without falling apart. The inside feels like a classic Asian bakery, with shelves lined with snacks and baked goods to-go. This is the kind of bánh mì that reminds you why it's such a classic: simple and balanced perfectly. Definitely a spot I'll come back to.
