I honestly think Portland Pie Company in Brunswick has some of the worst pizza dough I've ever had. We ordered two small pizzas and neither one was good. The pepperoni pizza was overpowering and unpleasant, and the steak & cheese pizza I ordered came out wrong on top of that. The dough itself was the biggest issue. It tasted greasy, lifeless, and heavy -- not airy, fresh, or enjoyable in any way. It honestly felt like the dough had completely lost its texture and quality before it ever made it to the table. To make matters worse, the service felt lazy and inattentive. The table was so sticky I could barely get the menu off of it. Portland Pie Company is a decent local chain restaurant. This location is ok. Seems to be popular with the locals. The front of the house staff is quick to acknowledge people upon entering. The seem to be short staffed, because the staff always seem to be running around stressed. I feel bad for them, so we typicall get take out. There's usually plenty of seating. They seem to be able to accommodate 6 people somewhat easily. Any group larger, you may need to wait. The waiting area is not very big. There are TV screens at the bar, there are usually a few people at the bar. You can order pizza by the slice. Limited selection as you can imagine. They typically always have cheese. The slices are decent sized as well. The pizza sometimes is good and sometimes flat.... Flavors are usually good, which is important to me. It's family friendly and sometimes they have deals running for kids. Be sure to check them out. read more

This is soul food. Really, truly, the best kind of greasy delicious cheese/tomato combos, my group LOVED the food here, even though we didn't get close to finishing it. Had the goat cheese 10 inch with regular crust and loaded pizza, 14 inch thin crust. For Maine, this is good pizza. The stuffed mushroom apps were not worth it, so skip it. Drinks were good. The hamburgers are cooked in the oven and served well done. So just a protein disk, tasteless apart from the crunchy edges. Then they dress it up with cheese, pickles, tomato, lettuce, ketchup and mustard. So less a traditional burger, and more a fast food version. Maybe that's all people know these days? Pizza is good. I didn't care for the Brussels Sprouts as it was salty and soggy. The star deductions are for calling and they never pickup and when you come there, there aren't anyone there. They don't seem busy when called but picking up the phone isn't a priority. Customer service is hit or miss. It's a franchise and I can only speak for the one in Brunswick. Ambiance is your typical bar. I haven't eaten in but from what I see, it's fairly clean. It is where we do typically get our pizzas but wish the customer service is more consistent. read more

Just stopped in as we passed the store in Brunswick today. Bought two 10" small "specialty" pizzas. Ehh, not the worst I've ever had, could've been a lot better for $14 each. We attempted to get our young son the "Pasta with butter" that was supposed to be Penne pasta. Well, then I was told it was Ravioli, then I was told they had neither the Penne or Ravioli it was Max & cheese. Okay I said, Mac $ cheese is good, for $5.99. As the picture shows, I'm 99% sure this was approximately 1/4 box of Kraft box max and cheese. What's that, like a 800% mark up? We'll look elsewhere from now on. read more

Can I give higher than 5 stars? Oh my gosh....SO good! Rivals my favorite pizza in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Has the exact same taste, but without the thick crust. YUM!!! This was absolutely delicious! Great crispness to the crust (we chose the garlic crust), absolutely one of the best red sauces we've ever tasted, and plentiful toppings. (We asked for no green pepper, which normally comes on this.). I don't know what cheese blend they use....but I think I tasted a piece of heaven today. You won't be disappointed if you try this place! Plus, friendly staff and service, and the restaurant was very clean. read more

The pizza is good, and the buffalo chicken dip is also really tasty. I just wish it was served with something aside from a slightly sweet soft pretzel, just doesn't seem to be the right match- however I still really like it and recommend it, we get takeout so I just use chips and save the soft pretzel for later! The pizza is one of the better options in the area, though I've never tried one of their specialty pizzas. The chicken tenders and fries are also good, though I believe they're baked... We tried this for the first time at a party that someone picked up. Seriously delcious pizza and it's all my boyfriend could talk about our entire trip. Their gluten free/dairy free pie is to die for apparently. He's tried a few companies that offer the same and they don't compare. I had the regular pizza and I found it to be the perfect amount of cheesy and saucy and not greasy!! We almost NEVER leave a restaurant with extras if the food is good but the pizza was barely cooked, the ingredients were horrible and honestly tasted like it was made from frozen. I've had a waitress trip and pour ranch all over me here but she was very helpful in cleaning up and even wiped down my shoes while I wiped down my pants. What was brought out to my car by a friendly server was the worst pizza I've ever had. I asked for well done, it was almost raw and cold. How could a pizza that supposedly just came out of the oven be stone cold. It is disgusting and unedible. I have never left a yelp review but this was just SO BAD!!!!! Non gf food gets good (average) reviews from my family. With a gf restricted diet, they're 'ok'. Crust options are basil, which is fine but doesn't go with everything and is a crust you'll easily tire from- I often avoid them for this reason alone- or cauliflower, which is so gross. Please bring in a plain gf crust and we'd prob make you a weekly, or at least bi-weekly, stop. read more

Reviewing a pizza place seems difficult to me. People have so many different preferences, that one person's favorite is another person's "just average". Portland Pie Co. is just that kind of place for me. My daughter considers this the best pizza in town and I just can't get excited by it. A friend and I went to lunch there a couple of days ago. I got the Margherita pizza. I like a thin and crisp crust and because of that I often order a pizza with very little toppings because I know that too many ingredients make it difficult to keep the crust crisp. Unfortunately this pizza was only marginally successful. Don't get me wrong, it was a decent pizza. The crust tasted good and the mozzarella was delicious. The sauce was a tad sweet for me but ok. The service was mediocre and rushed. The entire restaurant was nearly empty yet the waitress repeatedly came to pick up the check before we were finished eating. We had a bad experience the first time when our takeout order took an extra 15 minutes and our calzone wasn't gluten free. The manager came out and was very apologetic and helpful and she went and made the food again herself so it was right. She gave us a free gluten free dessert and a gift card and helped us bring our food to our car out front. We decided to use the gift card on a weekday instead of the weekend so maybe they wouldn't be so busy and there would not be any problems. On the phone the person was very impatient when we asked about gluten free options. My daughter can never find good gluten free takeout and portland pie makes it seem like they are a good spot for it but the person seemed frustrated about us asking basic questions about the preparation. We showed up 10 minutes later than they told us and nobody helped us for so long that we went to the bar and the bartender was kind of rude and said the host had to help us and turned away and kept talking to a waitress. When we got helped they couldn't find our order and acted like we called the wrong place but they had spelled my name wrong and then found it. It still wasn't ready even though it was now 20 minutes past the time they said. I asked to talk to the manager Kelly from before but they said she wasn't there and got a guy instead. He took a long time to come to the front and he had our food and said he had double checked it but our calzone was not gluten free again! He seemed very impatient too and acted like he had other things to do. He was a big guy and got too close to me and was so loud he was spitting on my face when he talked. We sat and waited for the calzone for another 15 minutes and they took it off the bill since we did not want another gift card because we will not come back. We asked the host about the manager Kelly since she was so helpful last time but they said she doesn't work there anymore. If they treated her like they treated us I would have probably quit too. Ordered online and it is 2 hours, over an hour late and we gave up. Calling for the last hour, no one answers the phone.

The greeting took a bit but once we were greeted we were seated by a friendly bartender. The beer selection is great over 50 cans and draft beers. They offer a mug club as well. I got the wild mushroom ravioli which comes with a lovely , fresh garden salad. You can buy pizza by the slice at lunch time as well which is great considering it is fresh. As people were picking up their takeout the staff showed the customer to make sure it looked good. Very impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly staff! The manager came over to make sure we were happy as well. The only thing I thought was a little weird was the kitchen staff brought our food. I will definitely return. read more
