I've been in a few times now and I can say the food is really good. As a spicy food lover - and a fan of Nashville style hot chicken I think it's good though it's not as hot as it could be, but it seems reasonable for a west Michigan audience that doesn't typically do significant heat. If you're like me, try kicking it up a notch with the "Hotterest" for a heat level not included on the menu. The sides I've tried are really tasty, especially the braised greens and the Nashville caviar. Less than five stars because of the confusing combination of self service and waiting to be seated. It makes the whole experience kinda clunky, especially if you're with more than a couple friends and/or it's busy. We ended up carrying a table top order number around while you're waiting for a table just so they can bring you a drink and a couple of us ordered food not realizing we were supposed to wait for our table before getting back in line to order food at the counter - so we ended up with trays of food but no table. Hopefully warmer weather + outdoor seating will help overcome logistics issues. read more

Interesting, but confusing concept of self-serve and waited service. Which is forgivable with great fried chicken...but the chicken is so disappointing. The pieces of chicken are so large, it is heartbreaking to think of how genetically modified the birds must be. The wings are as big and bigger than most turkey wings I've seen. The breast meat pieces are as large as an adults closed fist, and that seems so unnatural. Bigger is not better, especially when it comes to taste. The meat is so big it is totally dry on the inside. The hotness scale is inconsistent. I ordered the first level of hot, and it was so hot I could almost not eat it. While the person I was with ordered a step above and it tasted exactly the same. When we asked about it, if they were mixed up, we were told no, and they could make us new trays if we wanted to pay for them. Also, the skin was not crispy, only soggy with sauce. The sides of mashed potatoes, cream corn grits and waffle fries were okay, but at $4 each, way too pricey for the portion. The coleslaw was again, okay, and I do like a vinegar based coleslaw, but with so much hot, a creamy coleslaw would be nice. The biscuit with butter was horrible. It was hard and tasted of leavening. It was like it had been made early in the day and left out on a tray. We asked for another one and it tasted the same. When we asked for salt and pepper, we were challenged as to why we needed it, because "...the chef seasons everything the way it should be". We were presented with a small paper cup of a mixture of salt and pepper together, but hey, at least we received it. The alcohol slushies didn't taste at all of alcohol, but that is kind of the purpose of some slushies, but at the price, I'd like to taste a little alcohol. I was really looking forward to having a hot-chicken in town, but am really disappointed. The atmosphere is cold and loud, although in the summer with the patio open, hopefully it will warm up the space. The forward thinking of the no-tipping is introduced here, and in concept is great, but maybe the staff is not as attentive as they should be because of it. After asking friends and sharing my experience, I hear the go-to item is the chicken sandwich. Will try again in a few months. read more

Had just gotten out of the hospital and really needed some comfort food so my hubs suggested we try this place. Sooo glad we did! We ordered take out and watched as people poured into eat here (7pm). They have a yummy menu where you can get just chicken along with lots of sides to choose from or sandwiches. Chicken can also be hot like so many people have posted. We didnt order any heat just a five piece chicken and a side of baked beans for my hubs and mashed potatoes and gravy for me. Chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and not overly greasy delicious! Hubs said the baked beans were not as sweet as he was use to but he loved them. Mashed potatoes, omg, perfect! They not only tasted like real potatoes and gravy but the balance between gravy and potatoes was spot on. We are having our grandkids visit with us for a couple days and I think this would be fun to take them some night for dinner. Highly recommend!! read more

Came in after lunch hour, around 1:30ish on a Friday with my 4 kids (10 months, 8,9, 10) and two of their friends, my sister and a friend. So it was a bit of a crazy table but the server was very accommodating. I will say that it really is not a great choice for kids as there are no kids meal choices, I had to do a lot of ala cart sides (expensive) and then had to cut up chicken off the bone. They could make it a great deal easier if they served chicken tenders/strips. I will definitely go back but likely without kids. read more

AMAZING! We had such a great experience, in every way you want from a restaurant. The food was amazing, reasonably priced so you can try everything you want. I tried to pick the thing I liked the most to write about but all of the sides were delicious. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. The bartender, KT, was personable, friendly, answered all our questions, offered great suggestions, and made us feel at home at the bar, we loved her and will definitely be back to visit! Simple menu offerings with rather boring decor and atmosphere. I decided to try the hot chicken sandwich which promptly lead me to wishing I'd ordered either the 2 or 4pc fried chicken instead. The chicken had a nice crisp coating with a light heat (for me). Although, it was a little on the dryer side, guys. The bun that it was served on fell apart quickly and easily, that was a shame. Interesting drink menu to say the least; One beer, a few frozen concoctions and a billion bubblies, very confusing considering the simplicity of the decor and menu. I had the John Daly btw, 6.5/10 cost to booze ratio. I chose to try the pimento Mac & cheese and waffle fries as a side. The waitress said they only serve 21 and up after 9 but then said "DON'T WORRY WE WONT KICK YOU OUT" We finished dinner, she told us what they had for dessert and we ordered one of each. So after eating $50 worth of food, she comes back and says "I'm sorry we're going to have to ask you to leave since it's 9:00 but we can pack your dessert up". As if that wasn't inappropriate enough after she TOLD us that wouldn't happen, her manager then came over and repeated that we had to leave. It was 9:06. We hadn't been sitting there :45 mins past our time, they may as well have escorted us out. I understand liquor licenses but don't tell your patrons one thing and then do another. Alright so let me start by saying I love this place. I have eaten here many times before and also ordered take out. The food is amazing....when it is hot, or even warm. My party of 3 today all received room temp chicken tenders. Chicken sandwiches, Mac and cheese, mashed potato's and even a burger which was over cooked and then cold. It was a struggle to look at. It was fairly busy but most of the bad service had to do with our waiter having to make everyone's drinks as well!! He was the bar tender and waiter for the whole left section. We got drinks after 20 min. NEVER got asked if we wanted more...(probably because he didn't want to dig himself a larger whole) then ended up finding 2 hairs in the food. (Yes we still eat it because there was zero chance of waiting 35 minutes again for some fried chicken and a burger.... So after spending 1 1/2 hours here we only got 1 drink each, I had to sit and wait for the tab and allow my fiancé to leave to sit in the car because we waited for 15 minutes after I asked the hostess to find out waiter for the bill. I ended up going in and paying for my food because I was over waiting for the day at this point. I used to be a waiter, I know how it goes sometimes. But there was ZERO communication whatsoever. It was sad yet extremely frustrating. I had to leave this review for Managment because it was absolutely a terrible experience. If I didn't already love your food and know what you are capable of delivering I would never come back. However I feel confident you will improve so I can enjoy my next meal when I'm craving one of the best chicken sandwiches in GR. Please please do not under staff. And when a hair is reported. At least training your staff to have someone in Managment or even the waiter acknowledge it. We saw no one after politely mentioning the cold food and both hairs. UNACCEPTABLE. We know it happens and who knows who it belongs to, but you need to address it with customers for the sake of your servers tip and the reputation of your business. read more
