This is my special treat after work early Sunday in Park Slope. There's usually room to sit down and work on the computer (free WiFi, of course), the tables are big and the chairs are comfortable. The staff is friendly and fast, you won't be waiting for your meal for long. Unisex bathroom, if you're planning to stay for a while, and convenient close location to the F and the G is also a plus, especially on cold winter days when you need a spicy sandwich to warm you up before you head home. As for the food -- saved the best for last: It's a bit pricy, true, but I think it's worth it. The sandwiches are good and very tasty. For those of you who like spicy food, no problem - you will end up spitting fire. The bubble tea is a good addition to the hot food and helps you cool down; there are deserts and small cookies as well. Tips: 1.) if you don't have one, ask for the a sandwich card. You get a stamp for a bubble teas and sandwiches, so each meal full meal is basically two stamps, a quick road toward a free drink. 2.) Their spicy can be *really* spicy. and I mean it. Watch out.. I was so happy when they opened a store near here! This is my go-to place when I want some comfort food and delicious bubble tea. I always order the same thing: the shredded chicken sandwich (spicy of course!) and a bubble tea. A bit on the pricey side, considering the number of Asian stores there are in NYC, but there are no other bubble tea places in Brooklyn Heights. I came here today by chance after deciding to visit Brooklyn, and I'm glad I did! After enjoying a nice afternoon stroll in Dumbo with my sister, my stomach started to grumble and she wanted to get ice cream, so we walked into the first place we saw that served real food and some yummy dessert. Well, there were some real diners along the way, but we wanted to grab something simple, so Hanco's was the perfect choice. This one has a cute interior, with little tables and chairs on the first floors and an even cozier area upstairs. Since one of my favorite vietnamese food is the viet sandwich, I immediately ordered it without any hesitation. I obviously ordered the classic, since you can't tell whether a viet sandwich is truly authentic unless you try the original first. I wouldn't say that I tried all of the viet sandwich places in the City, but I had my fair share of it. To my surprise, the one served at Hanco's was pretty on target, especially with the minced meat (warm and flavorful!). There were several types of meat inside the bun, with lots of pickled vegetables (carrot/radish and cucumber) and enough cilantro to keep my tastebuds satisfied! As much as I enjoyed the minced meat, I felt that there was a bit too much, since it didn't leave much room for the other meats. Since I am a carnivore stuck in an omnivore's body, I need to get as much meat as possible! As for dessert, my sister ordered a black sesame and strawberry sorbet ice cream. It's two different flavors, but you can mix them together. The black sesame had a very strong sesame flavor to it, not the fake powdery type. It even had a tinge of saltiness, which was perfect with the fruity strawberry ice cream on top! I'll definitely be going back for more the next time I visit Brooklyn! read more

Ordered the summer rolls here, but they were bland and somewhat expensive. I expected them to be fried, but they weren't. Even so, I've had better [similarly non-fried] summer rolls before. Hanco's is an excellent Vietnamese place if you feel like having Pho sandwichess and try different foods in that culture. I've been to this location multiple times due to the fact that its close to my home. My favorite thing when going to Hanco's, however, is the bubble teas they give. So Far, the Matcha and Honeydew Bubble teas are only $4 for a medium sized cup and the tapioca pearls and nice and chewy, the milk tea nice and sweet. They also offer a free bubble tea after purchasing 6 bubble teas, which is as great as it gets. I would recommend going to this location, as well as the one on Smith street if you're looking for affordable and quick Asian cuisine. read more

Pros: More seating, takes credit cards, free wi-fi, pho, larger menu, an upstairs seating area with a skylight, newer/shinier Cons: $0.75 more expensive for the same sandwich, drink prices are way too high, service is occasionally spotty (but greatly improved since opening), strange art on the walls. No change: How delicious the sandwiches are. Same in every respect! If you get the pho, get the beef broth! If you get a sandwich, get Classic or Pork. ENJOY! read more

I order from Hanco's every week, sometimes delivery and sometimes pick up. I always get the rice vermicelli lunch special and a green apple bubble tea. It's my go to and I love it. That said, they are so bad with basic customer service / getting your order right. Recent examples are: - Telling me I can't order the plain rice vermicelli as a lunch special, I have to get a topping. That's clearly incorrect based on the menu, Seamless, and past ordering. But thanks to the cashier girl for the attitude, and then complaining about me afterwards. - Getting the wrong order THREE TIMES in a row for delivery. What makes it more concerning is that it was a Seamless delivery, when everything is clearly written down. - Forgetting orders and sending them out only after calling to remind them. - Taking over 2 hours to do delivery, when giving an estimated delivery time of 45 minutes. Most of these problems are delivery related, and or occurs during their lunch rush. That said, the staff really fails to make up for these issues, and is oftentimes the cause of the problem. Bottom line: Avoid ordering it over the phone or online, go in person, and be prepared for attitude. Otherwise, go on weekends. read more

Honestly I was excited to try this spot and I was extremely disappointed. The space is small and crowded and when people were placing their orders at the counter there was a line without any sort of order. I waited to order about 10 minutes and then two people just decided to skip the line and the cashier took their order even though I had been in line. I wanted to order a full meal and a drink and after that, I opted to just order a bubble tea to go. They did not deserve my patronage if they can't appreciate my time. I ordered a taro bubble tea, they offered it hot and I got it EXTREMELY HOT. Don't recommend it because it's just not good. I stumbled upon this place while looking for apartments all day. I needed a quick bite to eat, and passed by this place on the way to the train and decided to stop by. The interior decor was decent, quite normal and the restaurant itself also had upstairs seating. I saw many customers drinking milk tea with boba, so I decided to order a Thai milk tea and original banh mi. My friend ordered the pho combo with all of the meat. Service was mediocre; the cashier didn't tell us where we had to wait for our food, or if we could first seat ourselves before they brought us our food. The food itself was fine--I liked how the banh mi had more vegetables than most Vietnamese restaurants, but my friend's pho wasn't hot. The broth was lukewarm, and the meat that was supposed to be cooked in the broth was raw, and stayed that fresh raw, red color since the broth was lukewarm. The Thai milk tea was decent, and the tapioca bubbles were a nice consistency. Would recommend if you just want a quick bite to eat and are a fan of the banh mis but not sure if I would stop by here of the pho. read more

Is NYC a Pho desert? Broth was average but lacking, and not clear...slightly milky. Noodles had a stale, cardboard taste. Beef was tough. Real tough. No cilantro, no jalapeños (I saw a single jar by the front door, where you put jalapeños, on my way out)...why the gringo Pho? We can take the real thing! Another reviewer speaks of a strange Pho-disposal thing that wasn't clear, until I saw it in the flesh. You bring the steaming bowls to your table yourself, and then bus the table yourself, and the stuff you don't eat goes into a contraption that strains the solids and catches the old broth down below. When I dumped the soup in it made a truly unappetizing sound. I felt horrible for the people who just sat down to eat. They get a star for dishing out Pho and not being a 'Pho place' and another for me comparing them to bowls I've had on the west coast -- and being too picky when I want what I want. read more

This is a neat little tri-level eatery that boasts a variety of sandwich options friendly to vegetarians. This was my first time trying a traditional bahn mi sandwich and I was impressed with the way the sandwich balanced the sweet-tangy flavor of the vegetables with the spicy sauce. We grabbed the Sriracha sauce preemptively, as neither my companion nor myself can enjoy something without a kick. Surprisingly, I didn't need it, although we did order our sandwiches to be spicy. The least impressive part was the hoagie roll and the tofu and vegetarian chicken sandwiches were served warm, rather than hot. We also ordered bubble teas which were more expensive than I was used to, but I'm going to blame that on the overall price hikes in NYC rather than this individual venue. My hot thai tea was delicious although perhaps a bit too sweet (hence why it was delicious). The cold honeydew was refreshing and both came with a chock ton of tapioca bubbles. The place operates semi-fast food style. You enter and place your order at the counter and then pick it up there (if all you're getting is bubble tea) or in the back. I went to this place pretty often for many months, and to be honest enjoyed their foods until a month ago, vermicelli salad with shrimp gave me overnight food poisoning which led me to vomiting for the first time in my life along with diarrhea, and I was in urgent care the next morning. This trauma prevented me from going there, but my husband who had just vermicelli salad without shrimp was fine, so our reasoning was the shrimps were spoiled due to the hot weather. A month later, I went back to order salad without shrimp, and unfortunately, soon after I had it, I feel sick and feeling nauseous. Hope this is not going to lead to a full blown crazy food poisoning as I had a month ago. (I actually microwaved one third of it to kill some bacteria but it did not taste right, so another one third of the salad was consumed as it is. So, if microwaving for 50 seconds would kill any bacteria, I am getting sick over one third of the salad. The rest of the salads are thrown away now. This is serious. I think something is going on in the kitchen in this place. Need a thorough sanitary investigation and overhaul cleaning there. I came here for dinner with a friend and ordered the summer roll and my friend got the pho. The summer roll came with two fairly large rolls with shrimp and rice inside, and at less than $6 was cheap. It tasted pretty good, especially with the peanut butter sauce which sounds weird with shrimp but somehow worked. My friend got the pho and said it was okay but nothing special. Hanco's is a good example of taking a simple cheap Viet sandwich and marking it up for a trendy neighborhood in Brooklyn. All of their menu items are dirt cheap eats in their country. I should probably try a banh mi first but I couldn't wait to comment on how I paid $4.35 for a regular iced Vietnamese coffee, outrageous! That's almost 2 bucks more than what you'd pay in Nolita or Chinatown and it wasn't that good. Even the prices of their sandwiches are over a dollar more than in the city (Broome St is tasty). For customers who don't know the average price for a banh mi and think they're getting a bargain, this Vietnamese cuisine is supposed to be simple, cheap, filling "hero" sandwiches. The new Hanco's is on a pretty street. They have an upstairs, and trash bins that are labelled very nicely. The banh mi is smaller here than at their other locations, and their bubble tea seemingly blander. I'd stay away from the pho. This franchise is a perfect example of a watered-down Asian cuisine that sells well in nice neighborhoods. It's hard to even give this place one star given that I didn't even get to taste their food. My husband and I decided to check this place out for lunch on a Saturday. Waited in a short line to place our order, totally fine. Waited a little longer than I felt was really necessary for a lemonade, again fine. But when 20 minutes later, we still didn't have the 2 basic sandwiches we ordered--not fine. A family of four who came in and ordered 10 minutes after me were served their 2 sandwiches and 2 orders of soup and salad before mine. A guy who ordered before me got his meal stolen by someone else and had to get them to make him another one. It was clear that the people working at this place were completely incompetent. The process is a simple as: call the number of the order, the customer presents their receipt to verify they're that number order, the numbers match, give them the food. Yet, this seemed to be too difficult. And I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but it shouldn't take that long to get the food made. In the end, after waiting 20 minutes for our sandwiches, I asked for my money back and walked out. I want you not to order from here in solidarity with punishing nasty businesses that treat their long time loyal customer like utter crap. Here's the thing, I really like their food. I had been going there loyally for a few YEARS, at least once a week (and recently, a great deal); that it until today. I will never go back. Voting with my wallet, and hope you will too. Mediocre food is not offensive but bad behavior is. Please deny them business. Here's the saga. Today I ordered the Thai Tea bubble tea (I usually get that and the roast pork bánh mì). I ordered it with "not too much ice". I got there, paid for my order (it's not cheap, just under five bucks); walked the four blocks back to my job and when I opened the bag I found that, if anything, they had given me extra ice (the cup was three-quarters full after some melting--meaning that the Thai tea was watery and therefore not good--exactly why I ordered less ice). I called them; and was told on the phone they had messed up my order, apparently reversed it, as I thought and given me extra ice. No store credit though, "could I come back"?, I said "sure". So I walked back, four blocks. When I got there, one of the owners was at the counter, not the teenage employee that had given me the order and who I spoke with on the phone. She did not have my replacement order waiting. Instead, she starting right in with telling me that they had taken away ice and usually fill it to the top with ice (this is a lie; I know because as I noted, I order from them all the time, and of course if that was true, that would be a good reason not to order their tea; who wants to pay for 90% ice?). She was incredibly nasty. Completely taken aback, I said something like "I just walked four blocks because your employee told me to come back to pick up a replacement tea; after twenty minutes of melting you can see the cup is still half full of ice, you're not going to ..." she interrupted me, said something like "that's how we do it" and then just stood there, unpleasant look on her face with arms crossed; apparently that was how she was ending it, no replacement. I waited a few seconds, then placed the cup on the counter, told her "I come in, what, three days a week? I will never come in here again." Do you want to give your business to people like this? I wanted to treat my husband to a nice bowl of pho on his birthday tonight, as we love that little spot. We were the last ones to order for the day, and I felt bad eating there, so we took our order to go (even though we could have stayed). Once we got it and were on our way out, I said "Thank you so much, have a good night!" Right after me a guy that worked there repeated the same phrase after me, mocking me and shutting the door rudely behind us, and the girls at the front desk started laughing. I don't know why he thought it was appropriate to mock me, but I felt very disrespected as I was nothing but polite and didn't do anything wrong. Love that you can get your order customized by spice level. I walked in thinking this would be one of those Vietnamese sandwich shops that was americanized kinda like num pang but boy was I wrong ! I got the grilled pork sandwich and it was so flavorful, the meat must of been marinating forever. It was a large sandwich packed with meat and the pickled vegetable(carrot, daikon) . This place is cheap compared to other places it was $6.50 but I got a discount durning the lunch rush. My only complaint is that the thai tea bubble tea is the kind that you get out of a can and put bubbles in plus they are kinda stingy with their drink, putting alot of ice in the drinks. I will however be back because I do not think I can stay away from the sandwiches when they are this price. read more

I had the passionfruit green tea with tapioca and my boyfriend had the thai tea with tapioca. The passionfruit tea was way TOO sweet for my liking. The tapioca itself was very good. Usually, the quality of tapioca distinguishes between a "good" and "bad" bubble tea. I had the vegetarian "fake/mock" chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the shredded chicken sandwich. The sandwich was fine, just a little bland. Everything just seemed mediocre... Except one thing-service. To my observation, a negative atmosphere seemed to exist among the employees and it showed through their service. I come from a Chinese background and am able to understand the language. The workers were speaking to each other in Cantonese and seemed to be butting heads. It was a bit uncomfortable to be seated right by the cashier as I was able to hear them bickering. We decided to save the other half of our sandwiches so my boyfriend went to ask one of the employees for a paper bag. She told him he could grab a bag and pointed towards the other side of the restaurant (I guess a place for employees where they pack the sandwiches). It was unusual that she did not step a couple feet away to help him get the bag as the place was empty and no customers were in the store. Everything about this Hanco's is fine but it gets a little extra bonus for being something different in the relative food desert that is Brooklyn Heights. Nicky's is kind of nearby as well but a bit far to walk, especially with a small child. I've had 4 or 5 different banh mi sandwiches from this location and they've ranged from ok (sardine) to very good (pork). The bubble teas are likewise ok to very good, and the pho was acceptable enough to satisfy a pho craving but nothing to rave about.
