Their sandwiches are quite pricy, but this is the closest Vietnamese place from my work. I could go to Chinatown, since it's cheaper, but compared, Hanco's taste better imo. I always order the classic and grilled pork (both with no spice) sandwich. I'd like to try their rice and vermicelli soon. You should go when the place isn't crowded (mainly lunch time). While the food is great- their system for handling Seamless pick up orders is completely inefficient. I like to pre-order and pay to bypass the time waiting in line. However, Hanco's makes you wait in line to get a receipt before you can go to the back to pick up your order- a completely unnecessary and a waste of time. read more

This place has one redeeming quality. They were the only Vietnamese place that delivered to my school in Dumbo. The pho is bland and worse than average, but we must have gotten food delivered here 5 or 6 times just because it was the only place we could get it from. This is our go to place for fast, cheap and delicious Vietnamese food. They have plenty of options for vegetarians and can also make the sandwiches vegan. Seating is a bit limited, but I've never had any issue getting a table because the turnover is quite fast. Not recommended. The sandwiches have decent spices, but the vegetarian chicken was dreadful. It was like a pile of mush and started to make me sick by the time I was halfway through it. I've had much bigger and better Vietnamese sandwiches in NYC for less money. The service was also poor. I waited about twenty minutes for my sandwich, only to be told that my sandwich had been sitting there and I shouldn't have sat down, even though the staff acknowledged that the sandwiches often take 10-15 minutes to prepare. The place was pretty empty, so I wasn't sure why they didn't make more effort to find out which of the two people sitting there wasn't picking up his sandwich. We ordered take out. Picked it up, got home realized they left out a sandwich. We called and kindly made them aware of their mistake and asked if they could reliever it. She said no at first (ummm, ok). But then caved in and said they would deliver it. 20 minds later we called to check on the delivery and they said it would be ANOTHER half hour. I go to Hanco's quite often as it is around the corner from my apartment. Usually, I get the chicken rice dish, summer rolls and spring rolls. As winter approaches, I'm more likely to substitute the rice dish with beef pho. I keep coming back because these guys nail the basics: great food, virtually non-existent waiting time and staff that are great to interact with. The weeknight staff (Jenny and Ella), in particular, are awesome. They are super friendly and take the time to make me (and others) feel welcome. Kudos to them! I have been going to Hanco forever. This one in Brooklyn Heights has been getting worse everyday. The summer roll had a pungent smell and i have eaten hundreds of them. Their response, thats the way it is. The young staff could care less and with an attitude. The place is not clean and what is the deal with the rolled up mat at the door. Banh mi is ok but meat is sometimes tough. I appreciate that they will do different levels of spice for banh mi but often I find the chili paste poorly distributed across the bread. If you like the classic grilled entrees I'm overall very pleased with the freshness and presentation for a quick cook-to-order place but again I find the meat isn't always well trimmed. Today was my first experience of Hanco's. Speaking on behalf of someone who is mixed with half oriental decent ,i know my food. With that said Hanco's is a fast food version of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. As many of the reviews state the service is quite poor & their food is prepared very mediocre. I ordered the Pho & a Thai Iced tea. After one sip i knew that was the worst Thai iced tea I had in my life. I quickly and politely ask if they could remake my drink or swap it for another drink & i was refused. ( For the record i had no idea it was possible to mess up such a simple drink) Despite the fact, I bought another drink went home to give their food the benefit of doubt. As the other reviews state the how disappointing their Pho is i will jump on the band wagon & say the same. To some up this review I wasted my time & money getting excited about a drink i had to repurchase & a soup that ended up being thrown in the garbage. To conclude this review i want to say Montague is known to have many resourceful stores with the expectation of this one. My only real beef with the place is the horrific Top 40 music they have blasting throughout the restaurant, but it's no biggie. horrible delivery!! awful service! ordered at 6:38pm, called at 7:22pm asking if the guy has already left since it had been about 45 minutes and I'm only 5 blocks away. I'm told the guy had already left and should be there soon. 7:34pm and he's still not there - I call again and am told he's on his way. I explain that she told me that over ten minutes ago and I'm only 5 blocks away. I suggest that she call the guy to see where he is. She agrees. 7:52 and he's still not there. It has now been well over an hour since I've ordered my food, and well over a half hour since the guy supposedly left. I call again and explain that my food is now going to be cold. She puts a manager on the line. I tell the manager my situation and he says he'll remake the food and send someone out immediately. I'm still pissed off, but I accept this. five minutes later he calls me again and says the guy is on his way and he will not remake the food, but he'll give me my now cold food to me for free (3 sandwiches, 1 summer roll and a bubble tea). okay, at this point, I just want my food... I'm overall upset by the way this whole thing is handled. The guy gets here at 8:04pm, almost an hour and a half after I had ordered and almost 45 minutes after he supposedly first left, my fiance takes the food and when the guy looks confused as to where his money and tip is, he explains that the manager told us there is no charge for the food and obviously we were not going to tip. I was not there but apparently the guy was quite upset and as we sat there unwrapping our now cold sandwiches, the delivery guy proceeds to call the place and scream at the top of his lungs outside in our hall. nice. anyway, bottom line, I will never order from this place again. the sandwiches and bubble tea is awesome, I'm not debating that, but they suck as far as service. they kept using the excuse "the delivery guy is new and doesn't know the area" and then when he arrived the delivery guy showed my fiance that the street was written wrong as "Cranbary" instead of "Cranberry". wow. that must explain it. also, about a week ago, I went in for just a bubble tea and waited at the back counter where you pick up your food... after about 12 minutes of waiting and seeing people who were in line behind me get their food, I asked the girl where my bubble tea was and she said "oh, you get that from the front." Absolutely the worst customer service. I've had crazy experiences at this location in the past but today I was so mistreated that I was forced to write this review. I purchased a sandwich and a thai tea with boba. I was given a receipt for my purchase which was taken from me when I picked up my food in the rear of the business. I sat and ATE the sandwich next to the cashier. Once I finished eating, however still drinking the thai ice tea, i remembered that I had a few rewards cards in my purse. When I returned to the cashier for a stamp, she had the worst attitude. I was still drinking the thai tea and she made a huge fuss about looking up my purchase in the computer and going through all the receipts before giving me the stamps for my sandwich and drink. I asked to speak with management as I've been told in the past He or She is never available. I love the food here but they really need to work on their customer service.
