At first me and my mom and really loved this spa, but over time, it went downhill. I got a facial and a massage once; The esthetician was wonderful, but the massage therapist wasn't very good. She was very rough on my body and just completely rushed my massage. The receptionists are the most problematic. First, they overcharge you for canceling a member then they don't give you a heads up when the massage therapist is sick and then there mention you don't have any credits. I have been here a few times and the service is good. I have had the massage treatments and facials and both services have been relaxing. My favorite thing they offered were the last minute deals where you can book the massage same day at a discount, but they don't seem to offer it at this location any longer. Anything you can think of a bad business behavior - hand and stone Alpharetta is full of it. See the following list. 1. The masseuse caused me shoulder injury. I didn't officially complain thinking it was her first time and gave her a chance to do better in future. 2. They will keep on charging your credit card long after you have cancelled your membership. I saw another member complain about this. everyone who works there seems to be so unprofessional. 3. They lack etiquettes that a professional setting requires, they are not courteous, their website is full of glitches, no follow up, some of the receptionist are full of attitude, untrained masseuse and facial professionals. Hand and Stone is a fraud of a business. I stuck with them and was a member continuing to pay $60 a month for my membership. When my card changed and I didn't update it right away, they Took all of my remaining sessions away, locked my account and made it very difficult to use session that I ALREADY PAID FOR! I updated my card and I still can't use two of my sessions that I paid for. I made an appointment with the manager Who gave me my credits back and when I went in to have a treatment, the girl at the desk had no idea that I had any sessions left. This place has caused me stress and anxiety not worth the membership. I am determined to get my last two sessions that I paid for back, and then I will never give them another penny. read more

Signed up for membership in 2019. Was busy so only used the services twice. Due to a terrible massage service (let's say getting your body oiled up but did nothing like massage), I decided to cancel the membership in March 2020. At that time nobody told me or gave me any paperwork to state that my remaining balance only had 90 days life. The front desk lady was so unprofessional that she basically took a notepaper for my cancellation request and they continued to charge me for the next month. I did call to ask what happened and then the charge stopped. Now it's 2021 after covid is almost over. I thought about the remaining balance with them (7 or 9 times massage worth) and literally worried about their business existence. I called to schedule appointment to use the remaining balance but only was told that I don't have any. Everything after 90 days was ripped off. Now I think I need to file some sort of complaint against this business and welcome any other consumers that had the same experience to do the same thing (I will share channel of legal complaint here once I found out). Covid is hard enough and I just can't stand any business that enjoyed free government ride to rip off consumers (it's ok for any dishonest store to go bankrupt)! I had an appointment at this location for a massage and facial but due to feeling under the weather and being aware of a possible exposure, I called to reschedule. To my shock, I was told I still had to come in or be charged 50% of my services. As an attorney, I was tempted to check the law on this but instead I let them know that I will still come if they are willing to take the risk but I was trying to be courteous to the staff, especially the Estetician who would be in my face and I can't wear a mask. The lady on the phone said "thanks but see you at 11." While there I tried to stay out of peoples way and hold in coughs. The Estetician greeted me without a mask, which after I left it was brought to my attention she may not have been told by the receptionist like she should have been. To add insult to injury, unfortunately I had a coughing bout while getting my facial and even without any concerns, would've felt horrible. Upon leaving, I asked which one of the two front desk staff sitting there had I spoke with earlier, both denied it was them who I spoke with but they didn't ask one question to find out if in fact they had spoke to me (like what was the call about? They just both said no, which would've been determined based on at best knowing my name). I felt pretty confident they just didn't want to have a follow up discussion with me so I left it alone. Besides I didn't have the energy to go back and forth. I was told afterward from someone that they were required to have me fill out the Covid symptom form, which was right by where I checked in but for some reason I did not. When I called back an hour after I left to ask about this they said it was an oversight on their part and they apologized. I was told I may have to report who I exposed for contact tracing and I wanted to make sure they were notified because they also didn't follow protocol with the form. Aside from the other clients there, there were 4 staff I was in contact with and they were handling different clients even during the time I was there, but the same receptionist that I spoke with earlier, Ashley, didn't seem to be concerned once again. The relaxation from my services was well received and I appreciate the treatments my two service providers provided. However, I am appalled and concerned about the level of nonchalance the company showed towards a virus that has caused a global pandemic in a business where there is such close contact and no masks. I felt bad for the Estetician and masseuse because I felt the company didn't care about their well being at all, as well as the elders I saw coming and going while I was in the lobby. All in all, I personally am cancelling my membership once I use up all of my remaining services, for this reason and a because I barely come monthly these days. I will aim to use the remaining services while I still have antibodies so I don't increase my risk of getting Covid again, being that I know first hand they are not practicing safety protocols. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH HAND AND STONE, and more specifically, this location!! There are other massage companies with the same type of services that are run much more efficiently and not so terrible to deal with. I am quite frankly, LIVID, and will be reaching out to the location in Miami where I initially obtained my membership to cancel it because of this location. I booked an online appointment via my membership account for my husband, who as I said when I first got called by this location, works 12 hour shifts, works like a dog, and never treats himself--and Fridays are his ONE day off each week. My husband also picks up our son on Fridays. I booked the appointment to use several of my MANY rolled over packages ( I have given Hand and Stone plenty of my money for very little in exchange since I actually rarely go in) for a 90 minute massage with hot stone upgrade for January 19th, at 1 p.m. It was confirmed via the online booking on Monday, FOUR DAYS PRIOR, and when I managed to for once be able to go in myself this past Tuesday the 16th, I re-confirmed the appointment with their front desk and checked out in ADVANCE. Today, less than 24 hours prior to my husband's appointment tomorrow (which I find ironic given clients cannot cancel within 24 hours without penalty--which I was in the midst of stating when the assistant manager sadly, hung up on me), this location cancelled his appointment. i was called at 2:22 p.m. by an employee named Lisa I believe, basically telling me that because the therapist that my husband's appointment was booked with was suddenly unavailable tomorrow he had to reschedule, which is not really possible his schedule. I was irate to say the least, because to me it is in extremely bad taste to cancel an appointment someone clearly took the time and effort to very specifically book, and had confirmed twice, less than 24 hours in advance without any kind of back up plan. I'm sure, as I said to the lady when she called the second time, that there are other therapists in their employ not working tomorrow who could have been asked to come in for 1 1/2 hours of their time. I then asked on that second call if the manager was present, to which they said there was an assistant manager. I said I did not want to speak to an assistant manager but the person in charge, and that unless the manager called me back, my husband would be there at 1 pm tomorrow and I'd expect someone in the original therapist's place. I cannot count the number of times this business has been handled poorly. Once, last year, I tried to go in for a pre-booked massage at the same time as my husband and I was taken back and his therapist never showed up--she was out shopping.  The assistant manager then called me back and told me no one could replace the therapist (to be quite frank I doubt they checked), and therefore my husband's appointment would be cancelled. That was at 2:42 pm. I was FURIOUS. While this may not be the biggest deal in the world, I find the customer service at this business appalling, and the way this was handled, appalling. Their Assistant Manager hung up on me after sending me a message stating I was no longer welcome at their location because of "bullying" (is it bullying when you're rightfully angry and saying something true?) At that point I called to mention their policy for clients not being able to cancel within 24 hrs and to tell them I wanted the actual manager to call me when she was in--not to fix the issue or reschedule, but to express my extreme distaste at the situation. However, I never got to that part as the assistant manager hung up on me before I could get out the words In my frank opinion, being rightfully upset and demanding a solution, and stating facts, is not bullying, and if you have people working customer service, they should expect rightful anger in these situations, and be made of tougher stuff. While I have met wonderful massage therapists within Hand and Stone and I will say that the place is clean, which earns at least 2 stars in my opinion, the company has consistently increased by $10 (maybe $5 one year) per year for the membership price per month. While I understand the price of service costs increases, the consistent and yearly increases (even during the pandemic when unable to use the service much of the time) has led to a loss of respect for this ownership's practice. Instead of trying to retain clients and provide recognition of loyalty and past business, it's all about charging the membership clients more. The amount of the change and frequency of added costs are not a factor to this business practice. Pay up and ship out. We will find someone who will pay the new price tag and then likely treat that person the same way. It's a sad day when a company does not provide any sense of loyalty and retention without consistent high additional price hikes. I understand additional charges every 3-5 years but this is yearly and not a couple dollars ($10 more annually most years and over 40 percent in 4 years; maybe a $5 increase one year). No more. So I am going to give this place four stars instead of the three stars I initially wanted to give. I have had to male therapists who were awesome- one before Covid who no longer works there and one today Brandon who was excellent. Right before Covid, I signed up for a membership and asked if they were closing due to coronavirus which they said definitely not and literally closed a few days later but still charged me monthly fees. I was able to get my money back with a few calls and emails. I decided to pause my membership instead of cancel, and resumed masked massages since the end of July. The therapists wear masks and my last massage with a female therapist actually wore gloves. I hated that bc she did not use anywhere as much oil as she should have (and I upgraded the oil) so it felt horrible and she didn't listen to my concerns or problem areas. When I called to report the problem I got not one call back or a refund or even an "I'm sorry". So I would say they aren't the best at rectifying situations. I do highly recommend Brandon as he paid complete attention to my problem areas and did not completely ignore me like my other massage therapist (or management). So all in all I canceled my membership but I do look forward to my next massage with Brandon. read more
