Lots of toppings and flavors to choose from. Had a cone named Elvis on the menu, got a $1.50 dogster for the puppy. Clean, lots of windows and icecream is fresh. If you love handels, you'll end up with Love Handles. It's true, and still, I can't stop coming here. I can't Handel how good this stuff is. It's hard for me to get a Handel on just how good it is. It's like when I'm riding a bike, with a beautiful girl on my Handel-bars. Or a boy. Especially a boy. Oh crap I need to stop admitting that out loud. It's like listening to Tschaikovsky, or the "Messiah" by Handels. I want to drive you to Ohio and buy this for you but my Handels are tied. But if you need to know which flavour to get, hopefully this review will lend you a Handel. One of many Handels locations that I've been to, and one of many that has been delightful and perfect on each occasion I've visited. Handels it's one of the best chains of any kind out there, and although the original location in Austintown near Youngstown is my favourite, this one is great too and we have a lovely memory of coming here. I definitely have my favourite, and it's the heavenly "Chocolate Malt W/Caramel" flavour, which can be served as either the best ice cream, or best shake, you may ever have. Certainly the best I've ever had from a chain restaurant, although Cook Out's Fresh Banana shake might protest. So try the amazing "Chocolate Malt W Caramel" flavour ice cream or milkshake. It's heaven. Also, if it's summer, try some home made Lemonade. Some of the best you'll taste anywhere. Pretty damn spectacular. read more

Our family stopped at Handels on Massillon Road at 5:15 PM on Sunday (11/10). Only one customer was there. We proceeded to stand there for 15 minutes and watched the one customer talk to the Handels employee for 15 minutes without even acknowledging us. It appeared they were socializing. Even our children were tired of being ignored so we left. We will not go back. What a terrible customer service experience. We will go to the grocery store and buy ice cream. read more

I'm standing right here and literally no one else was there. That's absolutely ridiculous. What is the difference from someone ordering at the window instead of sitting in their car ordering it and then waiting for it to made then finally go back to the window?? It's stupid absolutely stupid. I'm tired of seeing these young girls just standing around giggling and not working. Why are you paying these girls to do under the bare minimum?? Done with this place! I normally love this place but this time we go on Saturday and I don't know if it's due to the girls wanting to stand in the back and chit chat, but they slacked in making our ice cream. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie dough shake and first sip tasted like Oreos and then it had like maybe a teaspoon of toppings in it. Definitely didn't pay $4.25 for a vanilla shake. She said she could lre blend it or whatever but no that's gonna do nothing but move the vanilla around. And then my husband got a pb sundae and there was like a thin drizzle of the peanut butter and 90% vanilla ice cream, again. Then my kids got the character things and my sons fell off within 5 minutes because the stick was pretty much on the outside of the sherbet. So that was a waste of $13. Employees are super nice, especially for being younger teens mostly, we stop here in the summer when it's nice out and sit on the patio. They offer puppy ice cream, so a lot of people bring their dogs, and I love dogs, I have two of my own but the patio is so small I wish there was a seperate section for people who bring theirs, some people don't have them under control, (and that's not handel's fault). My favorite ice cream ever comes from this place. The blue birthday cake. So delicious!! A favorite date spot for my boyfriend and I or a great place to take the kids. There is always younger high schoolers working it but we've always had excellent service. It gets super busy in the warm months (obviously) but we've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes in line. Upon reading all good reviews, I wanted to give a try Handle's ice cream at one of their many places. My favorite ice cream flavor is pistachio and I was searching for the 'right' pistachio ice cream in the area. That is why I picked a medium bowl with 3 scoops of pistachio flavor only. However, I cannot say I was impressed. The ice cream is not that different than the ones at grocery stores. Forget the home-made lie. They are all machine made at a manufacturing facility. What makes them Home made? The ice cream had real whole pistachios with their inner reddish skins. This alone shows that these people do not know how to use pistachios in ice cream. You gotta use peeled pistachios that look only and purely green. Then, you need to use chopped pistachios, not whole pieces. With the coldness of ice cream, you do not get any flavor of pistachios. You just eat them like any nuts. Or probably their pistachios are the cheaper ones in the market that have light flavor. Pistachio prices differ according to their taste and quality. When you look at the color of the pistachio ice cream, it is an exaggerated green. You can tell it is not the natural color of pistachio. But their ice cream is home made !!! Not for me. Why would you paint the ice cream? Let the pistachio give its natural color as much as it can. It does not have to look unrelated shiny green color. I also noticed that they offer waffle cones for $1 extra. But, they are factory made, not fresh or home-made. I would expect a store like this to spread the killing flavor of waffle to around the store and attract everyone to the store for an ice cream. Since the owners see that everybody is happy with their ice creams and there is no competition, why would they bother to offer fresh made waffle cones? I am not discussing they are aware of this. The owner should go around the world if they want to offer better ice cream. Their is just average while the world offers much better ice creams. What you actually get here is the same ice cream that is offered at the grocery stores for double or more price. The only better part is to have it outside in front of an ice cream store, which makes it fun for kids. read more

I love ice cream and Handel's is the best. I go to the Handel's on Massillon road and I have been going there since it opened. Many years ago I lived in a suburb of Youngstown and I would go to the original location in Youngstown. In all those years I have never received anything but but perfect ice cream. They use the best ingredients and it is home made. I am totally confused by the review that said it is made at a central location because I have stood at the window waiting while they were getting my order and I watched it being made in the back. I wonder if the reviewer was actually not at Handel's since there was several references to a "store." All Handel's that I know of are ice cream stands with walk-up windows but no actual store. In any case, I wouldn't change anything about it for the world. read more
