Great experience, I was greeted with an offer for an espresso and my appointment started on time. The shampoo person was professional and pleasant. My barber was Astrit and he was great. He asked what I wanted, listened and made some recommendations, most of which I took. First a great haircut, then the shave. Hot towel, hot foam, straight edge, an amazing pampering. This is a brand new space but the master barbers are local veterans of the White Plains men's salon scene. Hip and easy atmosphere. Goni, the MB who I have followed here is careful, particular, and a listener who can easily translate what you want into what you look like. He is easy going. Will talk if you want to talk or just let you relax while he does the work. Friends, who have substantially more and darker hair than mine, have also come to rely on him. I had not had my hair cut since pre-covid so it really needed a trim. I went in with a pony-tail to the mid of my back (about 11 inches or so) and I came out with hair that just breaks over my collar. I am NOT happy! I specifically told the barber that I wanted my hair cleaned up, to get rid of the back fuzz and to LEAVE MY PONY TAIL LEAST 6" in length so I could pull it into a tail. That is NOT what I left with. Did I say I'm NOT HAPPY? I can't even pull it back in tight scrunchie! He snipped my tail off with scissors and then showed me what he had cut. His expression was, "Is that too much?" The answer was YES, but at that point it was too late. So I closed my eyes and went to my quiet place to stop from having a full on melt down. I've had a tail for 20 odd years and now I have to wait for it to grow back. When you pay a premium for service and you specifically tell the cutter what you want you expect them to follow your instructions. They didn't. Never again. read more

We were in NY visiting from Florida. My husband was looking for a shave and clean up. I had found Handlebar Men's Salon on the online. They gave us an appointment for 2:30 with Bessie. We arrived to find a very clean, warm and welcoming salon for men. I watched Bessie take care of my husband with a shave, clean up, facial message, hot towel to the face and followed by a cold towels. Bessie blew his hair with artistry. George looked great when Bessie finished. Do to a some health reasons I have been loosing my hair. I am being very gentle with it but the ends looked very ragged. George asked Bessie if he could cut about an inch off the bottom and he did not hesitate and said absolutely. I explained that my hair could not be combed or brushed. Bessie then proceeded to very gently cut my hair and made it looked healthier. Then he offered us a drink, coffee and even a cigar. They have a patio area in the back. I consider this to be an unethical violation of my privacy, and theft of confidential data from a competitor. Had my barber they hired asked me personally for my phone number because he is moving to a new establishment, I would have given it to him, and Handlebar would have my business. I've been to Goni many times while at his old spot, and I am very happy to see him doing so well to have opened his own spot with a few of his co-workers. I seldom leave reviews for things, but Goni is worth it, and currently his shop is highly under-rated and highly under-reviewed, so I'm hoping to give him a boost here! The vibe is very laid-back, and the space is awesome, tall ceilings, an exposed brick wall that spans the length of the shop which adds character and warmth to the place. As for Goni, he is a gifted barber that knows what looks good without having to explain much to him. This is a characteristic and talent I cannot stress enough is hard to find, especially in Westchester. I have been rocking an undercut hairstyle for a while, which requires both buzzer work and scissors (hard to find someone good with both tbh). I am very picky with my hair and if I am satisfied I promise you won't be disappointed. He does an excellent undercut style haircut! I have been to numerous barbers from brooklyn to manhattan, to nyack, and Goni is a top notch barber that I would recommend to anyone without a second thought. I have had this cut for 2 days and have gotten more compliments on it than normal, so it really does speak for itself... Lastly he did not rush, this is very important to me, he took his time to perfect the fine details. They do excellent cuts/shaves/beard maintenance, they are warm and welcoming, and their place is super clean and pleasant to be in. We no longer have to search around for people that can do great hair while maintaining a professional and friendly environment---we found all of that at Handlebar! Update: I'm writing this update to my original review after the owners of the business texted me on my private phone at 11 pm on a Saturday night, they called me twice on Sunday afternoon, and now , they responded to this review. First of all the thing about Goni choosing Davor based on my hair type is complete BS. But you know what? For what I know Goni could have been just the same as Davor. If you take COVID 19 seriously, you should have checked my temperature and your staff shouldn't keep lowering their masks ( should we check the security cameras?) But you know what? Davor kept his mask on and that's enough for me. Transplanted hair are exactly the same as natural hair, people dye them, straight them, perm them. But that's just and excuse you are using. Regarding the Top. I DIDN'T give myself a haircut in months. I used to BUZZ my hair, and then I stopped I let it grow for months in order to get a nice haircut. if the barber "wanted to save the length" , great, BUT he should have left it on BOTH SIDES. instead, he cut the right part of the top and back, and left the left part untouched. now my left side is longer than the right side.
