I went for a walk in mani-pedi and they got me right in and it was amazing. i wanted regular polish and this is the first salon that didn't try to talk me into gel or another upgrade. they set up a tray and first did my nails while I soaked feet, which was amazing. part of the pedicure was a sugar scrub of my lower legs and a hot stone massage! they were kind, and professional and clean. this was 5 days ago and there is still no chipping or damage and my nails look every bit as good as if they were gel. 100% recommend. read more

After I said I didn't want polish and wanted a buff finish he scratched my nails up so badly he had to put clear polish on and even then the polish shows the scratches underneath. I went here and was treated really well. I would have given them a great review, they use this amazing foot gel in the pedicure pool. However, I have been wearing the same color nail polish for 15 years, called "Ballet Slippers". It sounds pretentious but it is just an Essie color. Anyway, when I chose the color, the lady told me "are you sure you want this color? It's chalkie". And I said yes I'm sure, I've been wearing this for years and I like it with my skin color. So, she gave me a manicure and I looked at my nails and was like wow! This is not Ballet Slippers! I have a strong suspicion they fill Essie bottles with cheap nail polish. Worst experience I've ever had. I was cut three times, while receiving a gel manicure. He literally threw my hands around, like he was angry. He also did not stop even though I was bleeding, which is a big no no, I'm a cosmetologist. I have bad days to but I'd be fired if I treated my clients like that. Not the best experience. I went for my bridal nails. I had a full set. Nails were too long and after letting him know they were too long he cut them again though still too long (I let him know length) questioned about the gel I chose and then felt uncomfortable when I asked to look again Came back next day for my toes, Had my flip flops on almost two hours after leaving to put on shoes, toes ruined within minutes polish did not hold. I did not have time to return so went down the aisle this way with a paint over job from my sister. Just poor quality. Meh. I did not have a very good experience here. This place came recommended by a friend. I made appointments for my sister and me, but when I checked in I didn't even see them look at the appointment books. My sister and I bought got manis and pedis, but I got an SNS manicure. The pedicures were good. They did a decent job and my toenails looked nice, but it was nothing special. Now the nails. The guy suggested I try SNS nails instead of gel, so I went with it. He told me it would be $10 more. I never really got a manicure through this. He did nothing to trim my cuticles or even shape my nails until I commented on how I wanted my nails filed down. But nothing else that comes with a regular manicure...it was just getting the SNS on my nails. When he did the SNS, he had to use rotating file to file down the top of my nails. He went way too close to my cuticles to the point where I was bleeding. It hurt so bad! I kept flinching b/c of the pain and he would keep pulling my hand back in place. I ended up with scabs around some of my nails. Besides that, the nails did look nice and are holding up well. On top of that, I was charged $69 for the mani and pedi, when a normal mani and pedi was $42. It did not make sense, but I was so over it at the time that I just paid it. We walked 30 min to find this place. The place wasn't busy at all, and it was the middle of the day on a Tuesday. They refused to serve us, and said call /try a different day. They didn't bother to ask if we would like to wait, or even bother scheduling us in for a different time. Out of curiosity, we called after we left to see if they would fit us in that day (of course they could). It was frankly perplexing (and insulting). My husband and I are both professionals who enjoy tipping well and don't look like riffraff...we aren't white, but I'm not sure why else they refused service. Pros: the place is clean and new Cons: do NOT accept services from the young Asian woman. My experience with the spa pedicure: She drew blood twice, and when I called her out on it (it was stinging like crazy), she said "I did that?" The first was a very painful ingrown toe removal. Despite my pulling back my foot many times and saying "wait', "that's enough", "be more gentle" she proceed to draw more blood. She caused a bleeding abrasion by the roughness of the "callous removal" system, by treating the sensitive skin on the side/ top of my foot as if it were the calloused, hardened heal. Not surprising, the skin was torn. Lastly, she annoying called me "honey" over and over again (I'm a mature professional) and giggled every time she caused me pain. It is 36 hours later, and my foot and toe still hurts where she drew blood. read more

Lynn is meticulous with my nails. She is awesome! So many local nail salons in this price range have left me in pain with raw, or even bleeding, cuticles. I've had terrible experiences with the salons in the mall and a few others nearby - always feels like they are rushing to get you out of there as quickly as possible, even if business is slow. Lynn is the only person who will be doing my nails now. She really takes her time, and my nails have never looked anything less than perfect when she is done. The salon isn't especially fancy or luxurious, but it is clean and relaxed. It wouldn't be a first choice if you're looking for a higher end pampering session, but for affordable everyday-type nail maintenance, I don't think you can beat Hands On. I tend to go at night within a few hours of closing and there are always people on hand for walkins. read more

I received a gift certificate to get a gel manicure and pedicure here. I had originally made an appointment for noon but due to work, couldn't get there until 2pm. I should have called, but when I originally made the appointment, nobody got my phone number and I thought maybe it was a casual walk-in environment where I didn't need to make the appointment anyway. I get there and after they find out I missed my appointment, are extremely rude asking why I was late, etc. They fit me in and I first had a pedicure by a gentleman there who was very rough with my feet and drew blood at one point. I pulled my feet back a few times and he said, "you've got extra skin need to come off." I have had many pedicures at other salons and never had a painful pedicure. Three days later, I have one of the worst and most painful ingrown toenails I've ever had (on the toe that he had drawn blood from). I also got a planter's wart after coming here. I have never had one before and saw that it it happens after a pedicure, that it can be caused by unsanitary tools used and improperly cleaned foot baths harboring bacteria. The only reason I gave two stars is because they fit me in after missing my appointment and because my gel manicure was done by a nice girl who did a fantastic job. I will not be returning regardless and am currently soaking my foot in Epsom Salts hoping this ingrown toe nail will go away. read more

I have read the reviews and cannot believe these are real. Seems like one person who has an axe has written many of the reviews. I have known and used Vickie and Laung for 15 years. Hands On Spa is not a walk-in salon. If you get a quick appointment, you are lucky. Vickie and the others have regular customers and are usually booked solid which explains why there are not customers waiting. We arrive in time for our appointments and leave when we are through. My friends and I book three and four months in advance. We call Vickie if we have to cancel, so she can call someone on the wait list. They are immaculately clean doing both hands and feet as well as waxing, etc. Many years Hands on Spa is voted the Number One nail shoppe in Asheville. I have never seen any hint of racism. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment, count your blessings. A gel manicure will last me a month or longer. I do take good care of my hand. Many men use Hands On Spa regularly and they, too, have appointments. If you want a regular nail shoppe, Call Vickie and see if you can get in. read more

We found this place in Mtn Xpress as winning the best of award several years in a row. We had a great experience that visit and I returned a month later with two girlfriends. After that visit I got nervous about a possible ingrown toenail because I hadn't requested a straight cut on my big toes. I called and spoke with Vicki and she instantly told me what to do to prevent problems and scheduled me to see her three weeks later. This is my first ever Yelp review, but I feel compelled to alert other potential customers to stay far away from Hands on Spa. It was by far the worst experience that I have had in 50 years of manicures and pedicures. I arrived on time for my appointment and waited patiently for 25 minutes. I was then hustled into a chair and given frenzied and sloppy treatment. The pedicure was started by Vicki (who may be the owner). She very quickly clipped my toenails while simultaneously answering the phone, scheduling appointments and taking care of walk ins. Abruptly, she left without a word in the middle of a very haphazard pedicure, and soon another person silently took her place. She returned during the pedicure and rapidly chopped my fingernails too short, cut my cuticles and nicked skin on several fingers. In less than five minutes she was gone again and the tech working on my feet moved over to polish my nails. A third person waxed my eyebrows. She did an awful job and left wax dried on my face. There was no professionalism, courtesy or interest in the service provided. Several of my fingers were red and swollen for three days. Please do yourself a big favor - go elsewhere! read more

We arrived at 10am on a Saturday and were greeted promptly. Pick out polish and sat down in the pedicure chairs. The water temperature was perfect and away we went. Careful attention was paid to every single toe. From buffing to sloughing the attendant was meticulous. The implements were sterile and the final polish was absolutely perfect. The only issue was the lack of massage when the lotions were applied. Other than this oversight I could not be happier with my visit to Hands On. We will definitely return. read more
