We asked to have a room converted back into a bedroom after the previous owner had tore it down. They said it was a very simple job, put up a few walls, hang a door, etc. and that it would take 5-7 days to complete. Handyman hires subcontractors and assigns them to a job, we were assigned Ro. He was very nice and had a good personality, but was extremely unprofessional, always late, skipped days without notice, quality of work was very poor, always lied, over promised, under delivered. The total length of the project was over 8 and a half weeks. 40 business days or 56 days of people in and out of our home, which was far more than 5-7 days. Each week we received a note that stated it would be completed by end of week, which was a lie each time. Job started 4/8 - Job ended 6/4 Ro would have random people at our home on any given day, some of which I'm not sure if they were licensed as he claimed one person was his "brother" and that gentleman seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Example would be this man painted all of the was with paint that had no primer in it and did not primer first. So the following day when it dried, the paint started to flake and peel off in chunks. Ro would also leave piles of trash at our house and construction debris in our walkway, which in our contract it said he would take it every night. Did not mask off the room correctly, got dust in every crevice of our home, and made it impossible to walk through with the way he hung it. In total we had about 12+ people (contractors?) work on a job that was claimed to be simple and only take a few days to complete. Durning these agonizing 8+ weeks, I was in contact with Travis the owner. I was expressing constant frustrations and concern of quality of work. He would always over promise and under deliver, along with zero follow up. For the duration of the job I felt as though I was the project manager on his behalf. It wasn't until his GM Jeff returned from vacation and I demanded and in person conversation that Ro was removed from the job and the rework began on all of the things he messed up. Jeff was good to work with and has much better communication. But anything is better than almost nothing. Rework was as followed: Door was framed wrong and had to be removed and replaced All walls needed to be skim coated (they did this close to 6 times?) walls still uneven. Floor had to be torn out and redone a floor guy laughed at how bad it was done the first time Baseboards were removed and replaced but have gaps everywhere. Drywall damaged after install, replaced and fixed Fan was wired incorrectly causing the circuit to trip All the door trim was installed with wood screws and was over filled with too much wood fill A bunch of damage happened to things unrelated to the job that I asked them to fix. They painted 3 times as they kept having to fix things I'm sure other things but this was all I documented After all the rework and continuing quality issues of work being done we told Travis and Jeff that it was fine to call the job "completed" and please cut us an invoice. Even with us not being satisfied with the finished product, we wanted them out and our home back. We received a muddy invoice that we had to verify as it was a mess, once confirmed we paid it and moved on with our lives. Now everyday I look at that part of my house in regret of hiring this company. I'm writing this review in hopes that you can avoid what we went through and I would encourage you will find a better company to work with, as we have. Paid to have squishy floor shored up. B team put down real thin plywood. I brought it to his attention and asked to remove it and put down thicker, more solid plywood, but he just put down another thin sheet. B team assured me it would be fine. LVP installed and bathroom done, and my floor is still squishy and LVP is separating and cracking in spots. That said they were the only ones I could find who would do subfloor repair, so that's something.

Urban Build reconstructed our living room and front porch this past late summer/early fall. Our…read more1908 house had gone through some unfortunate late mid-century re-modeling stripping its original character and cluttering it with junky finishing and inefficient design. Mike Dolge, Jason, and James helped us re-build the front half of the house to be a more open, larger feeling living area with clever and charming built-ins that add needed storage space while preserving flexibility. They were able to blend building back in some Craftsman detail with a more modern, lighter sensibility that makes it feel like we added SF. Of the many compliments that we've received, my favorite is "it looks like this is the way it was always supposed to be," even though it looks and feels very different. We are so pleased with how it came out. Mike is creative, an excellent listener and had many good suggestions as to how to improve the space in the way that we wanted in a cost-effective manner. Both Jason and James, who did the majority of the work, are highly skilled carpenters who care about quality. We're kinda particular (my husband is a designer), so they had to do alot of checking in with us and problem-solving to get what we wanted. The whole crew are nice guys who were kind to my children and careful with clean-up. Mike also hires excellent subs who built a beautiful re-purposed madrona floor and tiled fireplace that Jason finished with the most gorgeous mantle of madrona. Highly recommend.

Only three contractors got back to me with quotes (one with extremely high cost). Nice impression in 1st meeting. Jim and his team have been great with their communication by email and text. They were able to get the job done in a timely manner and communicated all the details (scope of work, pricing ...) upfront. Jim was extremely courteous, friendly and professional. We have been very happy with the results. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again for other projects in the future.

Their plan looked wonderful, and after a month we had a few questions. After meeting with a ton of other contractors, we established a few questions we never thought of before we started this project. They told us that we would have a ton, and they would be very happy to help us. We are going to spend a lot of money, and wanted to make sure that the money we were going to spend was going to the right people. We asked the same 12 questions to the other contractor and they got back to us within a few days. I do not feel the questions were out of line, but apparaently they did not want to answer them. Look we are getting into a large project. Full kitchen and two bathrooms with a 1800 sq ft home getting its hardwoods completely restained and sanded. We got an email saying that they had been out of town, after a week of not hearing from them. After that never heard from them again. Still, have never heard from them. We emailed, and texted them many times. Nothing. I understand life happens, and things happen. However I have been in customer service most of my life, and if something happens you let your customers know why you cannot or will not be able to respond. After excellent service, there was no follow through, and after telling us, we would have a ton of questions, and they would be happy to answer any of them, they never did.

We hired Quality one to install two faucets. Unfortunately the faucets were not installed…read morecorrectly; the new kitchen faucet needed to be purged before insulation, which was not done and caused a blockage in the new faucet. The bathroom faucet wouldn't fit. No doubt after three hours of work it was a valiant effort, but even with a discount from quality one I still had to pay a lot of money out of pocket for new faucets and a professional plumber to finish the job.

The patio door was a complicated job, requiring cutting out part of the wall and fortifying a supporting beam. The old door had to be disposed of. A 7' barn door needed to be cut to shorten it since we under-estimated the height our low ceiling would allow. Then, when we were able to (last minute) get hold of spare floor boards, he cut and used them to fill in a gap to the new patio door. Trevor took care of all of the above professionally and the end results are clean and without blemish. All of this was done in about 15 hours of work.
