I previously gave this company 4 stars out of generosity. I had 2 projects with Handy Man On Call totaling over $15k and can no longer overlook my issues. Customer service and communication is terrible. Everyday different contractors showed up without proper updates from the previous workers or what was to be done the following day. Constant back and forth phone calls for clarity, and delays. I believe the workers are paid hourly as several days they sat around for hours doing nothing, and being on the phone which just extended my timeline. Several large black trash bags and a huge mailbox and post was dumped on my lawn and left for weeks. I have been rushed on the phone and assured "it will be handled" to no results. The finished work is fine but the process is terrible. Yesterday I called to add a room being painted and was told it was fine and would be added to my invoice. Today I spoke to the same person who pretended they never told me that, kept saying I'd have to pay and the workers could not paint for free? As if any human being would expect that? To then say I had to wait to speak to someone who was out of the country to get an updated price before it would be scheduled. That I needed to track him down to coordinate , instead of the professional thing to do of communicating internally and having someone reach out to me. There is no internal consistent communication for large projects. They left an entire checklist of things undone and submitted the project as complete. read more

The technician for the bathroom exhaust fan replacement arrived on time Sep 9 and did a good job. The estimated cost of $749 for labor, parts, and picking up the parts at Home Depot (11 min away) was not as described. After verifying the cost of the replacement fan at Home Depot was only $25.00, and the actual work required removing only ONE screw and 15 minutes labor including the cleanup, the cost was extremely excessive. I do not recommend this company to anyone, at all. read more

First, I must say that I have used HOC, LLC since 2015 for various jobs in and around our home. They were always on time and did a good job. However, things have changed and I regret using them for what should have been an easy job in 2026. The contract was for plumbing, electrical, installation of cabinetry and countertops. The job required permits (which they pulled) and HOC was to purchase all materials and products, except for backsplash tile. Number one, the agreement was to match existing cabinetry but instead we got the cheapest cabinets HD sells for a total of less than $500 (they charged us $950). Not only did the cabinets not match but they had no drawers or shelves, which they refused to correct. Number two, they sent non licensed workers to do the plumbing and electrical work, which failed inspection. Number three, the workers were never briefed beforehand on the job they were supposed to do. They relied on us to provide the contract and instructions on the work to be done. In summary, this was a hot mess. No communication between the various departments and the workers. I had to make numerous phone calls because drawings were not created (as agreed), products were not purchased and insistence of licensed contractors for permitted work (which they refused after failed inspection). In the end, adjustments to the original contract had to be made. The agreement was signed in January but because of all the issues, this simple job concluded in April. I was helping a friend out who was out of town, because he flew in from out of state and took off from work for this company to reschedule appointments multiple times. The service that i experienced was very unprofessional and i was just the person helping a friend, so he wouldn't have to keep flying in town. I have attached one of the rude and unprofessional response below from this company: The job will be finished by this week. You don't need to be there. You're not getting a nickel off. The drink job is priced 50% less than what it was supposed to be. The estimate that was written was sent wrong. If you have any additional concerns, you can take it up with the owner of the company. Communication: 5/5 Price: 0/5 Value: 1/5 Overall: 1.5 stars/5 The short version: Although professional and courteous in its communication with me throughout multiple estimates and 1 completed project done at an acceptable level, Handyman On Call is at least 2.5-3x more expensive than the other handyman companies in the area. I cannot stress how much more expensive this company is. I don't mind paying a little extra for quality work, but Handyman On Call doesn't fit the bill. Pun intended. The long version: I've seen their trucks around the Baltimore area, and awhile back I decided to give them a call to repaint and resurface with Sheetrock mix/mud a drywall area sized 4.5 feet wide and 9 feet tall. A seemingly nice man with a Slavic/Russian accent was the estimator and gave me an extremely high per hour rate (around the ballpark of $200/hr). For a paint job that should be done in about 90 mins? Wtf. However, I needed the job done quickly and someone else (not me) was paying for the project. The job was completed by an American who spoke good English, so I didn't experience the communication issues other Yelpers have commented on. This piece of $hit, however, took a good hour and 15 minutes to get the antique white paint when a hardware store is 5 mins away... and ofc they billed for that time he was gone to get paint and God knows what. For this simple project, they billed it for $500ish because it took about 2.5 hours, half of which was spent by the piece of $hit to get paint 5 minutes away. They've stopped by and given me other estimates for other projects, but I did not hire them due to the insanely high estimates they have quoted me. Handyman On Call is at least 2.5-3x more expensive than the other handyman companies in the area. They've also given me some prices over the phone after I've sent them pictures of what I need to repair. Though prompt in their responses, again, very expensive quotes. I receive mailed coupons from them every now and then, but saving $50 on any service $450 or more means nothing when other companies can do the same job for $200-$250. When you give them a call to schedule for an estimate or get the estimate over the phone, the people answering the phone are generally friendly and professional. I have Handyman On Call saved on my phone as an absolute last resort when other handyman companies are unavailable. I suggest you do the same. read more

They completed a storm door install, but their customer service and follow-up is lousy. They were supposed to order the door which was to take 2-4 weeks, After 4 weeks I called back only to discover they never ordered the door. I had to personally buy and tote a door from Home Depot, for them to install. 2) I needed assistance with some issues on a new house, which I shared with them, but never got any follow-up call even though I stressed the urgency of the repairs. Had a simple job to replace two fenceposts in a vinyl privacy fence. Could've been done in six hours time. See, in replacing fenceposts, you have to pour concrete in the holes that the posts go in. So they send out a guy in the rain to do the work. In the rain. To pour concrete. But if you turn away their guys when they show up to do a job, they'll bill you an additional $175. So I went with it. After 5 hours the work was NO WHERE near being done. Also the guy they sent could barely speak English. Now I have no problem with that , but when you ask when he's coming back to finish the job and you can't understand a lick of his reply...from a customer service standpoint that's not good. So as he pulls away I call the company. I was assured he'd be back on Monday to finish the job. Come Monday no one showed. I called and was assured they'd call me back with an answer in 10 minutes. The project manager was in a meeting. After half an hour I called back and was apologized to by the poor girl who accidentally disconnected me twice earlier and listened to my complaints. I only got a response from the project manager after I threatened not to pay them. She called and said that when he first came out to work, you can't pour concrete in the rain. Yeah no s#it Svetlana..... He'll be there first thing in the morning. I said it's going to rain again tomorrow, so how can he do the work? So now the same guy is outside my fence working in the rain. I am a single woman who just bought her first place and was looking for a company to do some small jobs around the house. The gentlemen that did the estimate made me completely uncomfortable, he came off as very aggressive and just gave me a general sense of unease. Against my better judgement I went with this company to complete the two jobs because the price was right. The first technician arrived in the last 10 minutes of the 4-hour window and was unable to clean my duct system because I have an atypical AC intake. He opened the machine and told me "Look how dirty it is, that's what needs to be cleaned." Closed the unit. The company demanded full payment for an incomplete job, basically I paid $200 for him to blow some air on my vents. The second technician/electrician was an hour late and told me that he would need to remove a large amount of my ceiling to complete the job which was the exact opposite of what the man who gave me the estimate said. Another job incomplete. I called the company to complain and ask for a partial refund. After much back and forth, they agreed to refund me $50, which was fine with me. But when the check arrived it was only for $25... they said that because I used a mailer coupon they had already given me a discount. We needed our front steps and walk to be re-done, the soffit on our front gutter to be replaced, and the roof of our front porch repaired. Based on Yelp reviews, I first called Jim Brown Custom Contracting and though he was very nice, he doesn't service my area. I then called Mr. Handyman out of Owings Mills who also said they don't service Baltimore City but they suggested I call Handyman on Call. I scheduled a time for an estimator at Handyman on Call to come out and they called me the day before to say he would be running late. The original appt window was from 930-10:30am and he was going to be coming between 10-11 now so I had to reschedule. I thought it was weird that they would know a day in advance that the estimator was running behind on his schedule... The re-scheduled appt was to be between 8am and 9am and I was told it was the first appt of the day. At 9:20 the estimator called to say he would be 10 more minutes. I asked how he could be late for the first appt and he said there was traffic. I believe that there was traffic, but if it's the first appt and you do this for a living, you'd think he would have had the sense to leave his house early enough to get to my house within the 1 hour window. To me, being late twice when I'm trying to hire you to provide a service means that you don't want/need the work, and I can't trust that you'll get the work done on time or ever show up on time, either. While they were friendly enough and the estimator offered to reschedule, I told him that I didn't want to work with them anymore and that I'd be seeking out another company. This company made me an hour late for work, which means that they just cost me $40 due to their total disrespect for my time. It's too bad that I can't work with Handyman on Call since it appears that there are not a lot of options within the city. I guess this is how they can afford to be subpar? read more

So I needed some handyman work done, and one day i saw the "Handyman on Call" truck driving around. I set up an appointment for Monday. Monday came, Monday went. Noone showed up with no notice. Then I get a call from them a few days later saying that the estimator was out sick. So I called back to set up another appointment, only thing is the woman on the phone was rude to me. She feigned being someone else, interrupted me as I was speaking and in general acted like she didn't give a &$@&###. I called this company a few weeks ago because I needed to replace my kitchen faucet and also run an ice maker line to the fridge. I bought the parts myself so everything was ready to go. When the estimator arrived, he took a few pictures of the sink then sat down on the couch to write me an estimate. He came back with $935!! Seriously, to replace a faucet that you literally have to unthread and unscrew, disconnect and reconnect the water lines??? When I told him that that was a ridiculous rate, he asked what I wanted to pay. I told him $200 would have been a fair amount to charge. Most plumbers don't charge $200 an hour and this was definitely less than an hour job. the ice maker is as simple as drilling a hole in the kitchen floor, running the copper wire down and connecting it to the cold water line with a saddle joint, all of which I already had. The estimator was an older white gentleman from the country, and I suspect he thought I was a stupid woman and would pay whatever he wrote down. Highly offensive. I called the office to complain about the outrageous estimate and just to give them feedback, and was told that their manager would be calling me back. Of course I never received that call, but I did receive a call a few days later asking if I wanted to go ahead and reschedule the repairs! Truly unbelievable. I highly recommend that consumers do their research and at least get a few estimates before going with the first person who shows up. I recently got an estimate for repairing a shower sliding glass door. The estimate was for $385. I agreed thinking it was steep but not really knowing what would be involved. The work was done to my satisfaction in approximately 18 minutes. I asked that the price be reviewed as I felt it was totally unreasonable. I was told there was nothing they could do since the work was done. That may be true but I still feel gouged. I don't think brain surgeons make that much per minute. read more

My wife and I hired handyman on call to provide gutter cleaning services. Aside from a fair, reasonable price for the work, they did an amazing job. The gutters were VERY full of debris and without complaint, the gentleman that came out worked until every last bit was cleared. I'm a repeat customer of Handyman on Call. They have a two step process where an estimator writes up the job and then, after you sign the contract, the worker(s) come to do the work. Javier did a great job and was very professional. I was completely satisfied with the work. I was home and did ask questions and ensured that the work was done according to the estimate. They may be more expensive than a one-man operation, but they have a process, follow-up, and you can hold them accountable. They do have a minimum job size/price, so it's best if you group several things together if you only have a small job. read more

I'm pretty sure this is a referral service and not a real local company. Do NOT call. The most disorganized ineffective mess I've dealt with. The estimator came out, was great. Then they send a guy out on the scheduled appt with NO materials and NO copy of the estimate. I was having a piece of siding replaced and door trim repaired and painted prior to a home sale inspection. They then told me it had to be ordered (which I later found out is a lie b/c you can pick it up on Rt 40 and many other places in the city). I waited while the guy had to go to Home Depot for a 2nd time, while he was out he sent me a text message saying he couldn't work for them and he wasn't finishing the job and that company wouldn't communicate with him. I don't blame him. I wouldn't work for them either. The appointment setter sounds like she is in another country and the phone numbers you call send you all over like a virtual phone system. read more

In the past month, we have called Handyman On Call 10 times totaling 45 minutes on the phone. We received estimates for a front screen door install and for cleaning and sealing our decks. The estimate for cleaning and sealing the decks was too high for us and did not compare to other quotes so we moved forward with the front door install. We were then asked to sign the quote. After signing the quote we were asked to put $150 down of the total price - $292.75. When asked why the deposit was $150, I was put on hold. Then they told me the deposit is for 33% of the total of the service. My deposit was then lowered to $98 once I pointed out that $150 is not 33% of $292.75. Once I put my money down, I was not called to schedule the service. I had to call handyman on call again. Then I was told the front door kit from Home Depot needed to complete the project was on back order and would take about 2 months to get. This was pretty frustrating since we were expecting to complete the project quickly. We found a comparable front door kit from Lowes that was in stock and had to call back to suggest that they use that part instead so that we could move forward. They told us they needed to check with the estimator and we needed to wait for their call. Most times when we called, we never received a direct answer without being put on hold or being told that they would have to call us back. Usually the operator would need to talk to the estimator or the project manager in order to answer any questions. Finally the day had come for us to get the door installed. Our scheduled time was 8am-10am. Since we had already had issues the company, I called them at 9am to confirm they would arrive by 10am. After the operator got in contact with the project manager, she advised they would be there at 12pm. They advertise on the website and on their on hold message, that satisfaction is their number one priority. I called once again to let them know that I was unsatisfied with their service and wanted a discount on the current project. Then I was told that they would send someone right away. Once the men arrived, it was unclear if they had the correct equipment for the door frame. They then told us that they would need to relocate our doorbell in order to complete the project. From my understanding, they would remove the doorbell and relocate it, but that would leave a hole where the original doorbell was located. At this point, we were frustrated and their plan did not reassure us that we would love the visual. We decided to decline their service and ask for a refund. We also asked to speak with a manager and were told we would receive a phone call on Monday when the manager was back in office. We never received a call. read more

Don't use this company. You can't even trust them to show up when they say they will to give you an estimate. I scheduled an estimate 4 weeks ago. The day before that appointment two weeks ago they need to move the time route optimization, but don't let me know until the day before. So, I have to reschedule the appointment because I can't make their new time. Jason was supposed to show up for the rescheduled appointment between 2 and 3 on August 6. I called at 3:30 and they don't have an appoinment. The only suggestion they had was for another appointment on a different day. I called the company because one of their drivers license number 47V 420 was driving recklessly while we were traveling on the same road. He almost caused two accidents. My husband drivers a work van also, so I am always courteous to guys that have to drive work vans however he was putting everyone in danger. The first woman I spoke with was wonderful. However she was only a secretary. Who called me back which I can assume was a manager did not speak clear English, nor a number to reach her back. My washer sets on a pedestal, but it got bent out of shape when I moved and the washer didn't set correctly so they had to bolt it down...anyway. They did that. Great. It sounds like this business makes it a habit of not showing up. I myself had a similar experience - I called and scheduled a time for an estimate to be done. My window of time was from 2-3. I arrived home at 1:53 to find a "sorry we missed you" tag on my door. When I called, they said that the one handyman who responded had something else he had to do so he tried to show up early but I was not home. When I told them to send someone else, they had no one available. I've reported them to the BBB and any other place I can find where they advertise. Landlords beware!! Shotty work on my rental (drywall repair/door repair). They send out low/mediocre skilled labor that does not speak very much English. The worker has no idea what the job is going to consist of until they look at it and ask the customer (even though there is a contract drawn up advising of what needs to be done). The worker then has to go to the store to get the materials needed. They initially sent one woman to complete the job the first time (my tenant oversaw this and advised me she wasn't sure if she knew what she was doing). She basically stuck a $1 plastic strip at bottom of our door, called it weather stripping and charged $180/door. I had to have them come back to my property when I went to inspect the work about a week and half later. This time, they sent 3 people out, only one spoke English. They had a really difficult time installing weather stripping on one door (door was uneven, which should have been addressed by estimator as we requested door repair). The workers themselves were frustrated and arguing in Spanish over the job. The female "translator" was very rude and not even attempting to understand what I was trying to explain, since "she knew best". She told me at one point this job is more work than what they were getting paid. I told her the estimator from your company should have prepared you guys the first time and the job should have been done accurately the first time. The man with them was very kind and seemed like he sort of knew what he was doing. He got the job done, although it was not perfect, at least my door could close and lock, that's all I cared about by the time it was all over. Not using them again! read more

I hired handyman on call to replace a screen door and two thresholds. I used them because at the time they had a good review on yelp. They charged me 400 dollars to put in a door that cost 108.00 regular price at home depot. I was told it would be just like my front door only a little different. My front door was 300 so I figured 100 to install it and that was fair. They did give me a skew I should have googled but did not know any better. I also paid another 200 for them to replace the thresholds with pvc board. My front door will no longer close and I have been trying to get them to fix it but all they will do is replace the 108.00 door with another one exactly like it. I do not know how to get them to fix the other door opening where they only replaced the threshold. I guess I will have to call mchc and bbb. read more
