I have been using Mike for about eight years now pretty much whenever we need something done in our place or in our co-op. He is extremely knowledgeable on. Wide variety of trades and has completed tricky projects on everything from flooring to plumbing to painting to electrical for us. He shows up when he says he's going to, his rates are always fair, he is a great problem solver, his work is super clean and you never have to look over your shoulder wondering if he's taking advantage of you. In a city that sometimes seems full of charlatans and contractors that claim to be experts and really aren't, Mike is a rare find. Mike was fantastic and so helpful. He installed an a/c unit in my window and was able to come at short notice. His rate was very fair and at no point did I feel like I was in danger of being ripped off. Mike was very, very good at furniture assembly. I had purchased a hutch for my desk from Target...free shipping....for about $100. I spent more than that to have Mike come and put it together, but I could NOT have done this myself. Even my husband and I would have had a huge struggle. Mike was on time and, after three hours, I had a beautiful hutch put together. I was wary of a stranger coming to my house who I found on the internet, but it's obvious Mike is a gentle soul, just making his way through this life. Great all around handyman. He's able to do plumbing and electrical in one visit, and he's detailed and careful to make sure its done well. Mike installed new controllers for two ceiling fans, a new sink faucet and showerhead, and replaced some moldy caulking in the tub. His rates are reasonable and I trust his work. He was SUCH an a**hole. He quoted me a price different than what was on here, so when I asked him about it (I'm a girl and am always weary about people taking advantage when it comes to things like plumbing etc.) he suddenly got very defensive, told me he wasn't interested in the job, and stopped responding to my call or texts. RUDE RUDE RUDE!! I am looking for an electrician for my boss for a big time job in his loft apartment and after reading these reviews I called Mike. First he hung up on me and when I called back I jokingly said "thought you didn't want the job" to which he responded "sometimes I don't". Well clearly he didn't want my job because I barely explained what I needed before he started laying out all these crazy rules. He doesn't deal with assistants - only with actual tenant. He will only take cash from the person who called him, in other words, I'm his client not my boss!! Well I said no thank you and hung up! Too bad, you lost out on a really good client!! Oh and btw, he maxes out at 10' ceilings....guess he's afraid of heights!!! SMH read more

This is not the type of handyman who I would recommend. To reach out to him, it is very hard. He does not always pick up phone calls. His cell phone mailbox is full, so I could not leave a message there. He only prefers text messaging, but not anyone can do a text message at any time. He does not take credit card, nor check payment. He ONLY takes cash payment. He will ask whoever pays him cash to sign the payment agreement, via text messaging, and that person has to be onsite. So if I have a tenant in my apartment, watching the job be done, and handles him the cash, it has to be the tenant who signs the text messaging, not me, as the owner, who happens to be out of the city, even though I am the one who actually PAYS all this money. He does not have license, nor insurance. So be aware that super of the building finds out and throws him out. He comes to your apartment by riding a bike. He starts charging $35 an hour from the time he leaves his home. He also charges for riding back. If my apartment is in West Village, and it takes 30 minutes for him to come from East Village, I will be paying $35 for his round trip without any job done. His first trip is usually a checkup. If he needs material, or special tool, he will be riding back to get everything. Then another $35 trip, plus an hour of waiting. He also has a 2-hr service window, meaning I can be waiting from 2pm on, and he can show up at 4pm, even though I call two days earlier. Not the type of neighborhood handyman that I would use. read more

These guys have so many skills. I have had them do some minor remodeling and they also did some small plumbing jobs that I needed done.

I had to remove a switch that controlled an outlet. I got a quote from one electrician for $250. Mike told me about all options and told me, it's not worth it for me to pay any body for this kind of work. he told me how I can do it by myself and save a lot of money. He's a genuine guy and that's very hard to find these days. lots of other handy men try to rip you off for doing something very simple, and they milk victims for every nickle they have.
