This was a memorable and breathtaking experience!!! I recommend everyone take a 70 mile trip to Randall Airport in Middletown NY and experience a piece of the from another POV. Pilot Thomas is awesome, he's very accommodating and sensitive to your fears & requests. My girlfriend Brenda was a little frightened and expressed this concern from the beginning, Thomas didn't take her as high as we went and didn't maneuver the glider up & down as much as he had with me. The staff is very affable, attentive and professional. There's a lovely female pilot who is Thomas's girlfriend and she's does a phenomenal job with filming and photographing your experience. Amazing experience. I got the mile high option, but I only could go 4000 feet high, because of wind conditions I believe, but I am not complaining. As you get higher, the wind does pick up considerably and you can feel the power of the wind shaking you a bit. I did feel completely safe. At one point, I flew through a puffy giant cloud for a good 5 or 10 seconds. I then looked down and saw a visual effect, it was a reflection in the clouds of the shape of the hang glider i was flying in. The reflection shaped like the hang glider had the colors of an actual rainbow with a bunch of different bright colors. This is weird effect that pops up while literally inside a cloud, depending on the sun or random luck i guess. Absolutely incredible. The first half or so of the flight, you are attached to another small plane that drags your hang glider using a rope. This I guess is to help the hang glider reach higher altitude. At one point, you are released from that plane's rope and then you are simply gliding as just wings without any motor or engine or anything. I went as high as 4000 feet, which was close to a mile high, and the views are breathtaking, you are just so high above the cars and roads with nothing obstructing your view, similar to an eagle or something, just gliding. I suggest getting there early say 10AM or 11AM so you do not have to wait as there are crowds waiting to go up. Because of unpredictable weather and wind conditions, some days may or not be cancelled, but that is understandable. This was by far one of the sickest experiences of my life. I definitely recommend this place if your are a thrill seeker. I was invited to Hang Glide and I honestly thought that I was not going to end up doing it. I watched anxiously as my entire group (6 people) flew up into the sky thinking that there was no way I could do it. I finally decided to give in and try it and I am so glad that I did. My instructor was amazing!!! He is a seasoned Hang Gliding vet (25 yrs) and made me very comfortable from the beginning to the end. They will start by strapping you in and quickly explaining how things will go and also address any questions or concerns. The plane will ascend you up to about 2,500ft (You have the option to go up to 5,000ft) before the plane releases the hang glide. At this point you will just be free flying and it is by far an incredible feeling. You can see all the way over to Manhattan and I must say it was pretty freaking awesome. It is a bit scary when the plane releases you because you know at this point that there is nothing in between you but some air and a hang glide. Other than that there was no other part of this that was too scary. The landing was very smooth as well. This is definitely worth the money!! I will also DEFINITELY say get the $40 video that they offer. I know a lot of times when you are doing excursions the video and/or pictures are really just a gimmick for money but trust me the video is worth it. The video was crystal clear and it showed every angle that you would want to remember. The instructor has the autonomy to flip the camera around rather than just having a go pro on your wrist like some of the people in my group did. It is much easier in this instance to just purchase theirs and for $40 you will have that video for a lifetime. Again overall this was a dope once in a lifetime experience and I definitely recommend Hangar3 if you want to do it!!!!! read more

I was - am! - dead scared of heights, and had filled up on enough handgliding accident videos to last a lifetime by the time I arrived to the runway, but Thomas and his team put me immediately at ease. My experience with Hangar3 was getting some practice with turns and landings in as preparation for my first mountain flight. Tom and Martin are excellent pilots and a lot of fun. If you're doing a tandem, Tom will do wingovers and some basic aerobatics if you let him- it will be a lot of fun if you enjoy roller coasters. Bear in mind that Hangar3 is aerotowing. You will get towed up behind an ultralight airplane to 3000 feet. For a traditional foot launch, you need to go to Greg (mtnwings.com), Tony (ellenvilleflightpark.com) or Paul (flyhighhg.com) about 20 minutes west in Ellenville. Greg and Paul have received various forms of national recognition over the years for their teaching and flying ability. Tom and Martin are great instructors, too, and also come with my strong recommendation. Especially for getting a fun, safe tandem experience or learning aerotow hang gliding. read more

I went to Hangar3 with 9 other people some time ago, and this is what I have to say after talking with each of them about it. First, the negatives. It wasn't clear how to get to the place even with GPS, since the address given is not accurate and there is only one tiny sign posted for it. We had also planned to start at 1pm, but we were not able to start to fly until 2:15pm. Also, for a group rate of $170 per person, each of our flights only lasted for 10-15 minutes. On the plus side, it was a very fun experience, and it was nice to get to know the guys running the operation, since it was very much a skeleton crew staffed by all of five people. So, it was alright spending a lot of money on it, since I got the feeling that I was supporting decent people and an awesome sport, instead of sending money to extremely rich people in order for them to employ others at low wages. The flights themselves were very cool and I felt quite safe, so there's nothing to complain about there. I'd suggest dropping by Hangar3 if you're able to get a good-sized group together to take advantage of the discount. The costs are high, but for a once-in-a-lifetime thing, it's worth the money. read more

This was a great experience! Everyone there was very nice and helpful. It was a beautiful day so the views were amazing. I did get scared multiple times once we were up in the sky but the person handling the glider talked to me throughout the flight, which helped. The one negative, the wait could be long. read more
