I had an emergency with my ankle brace earlier this week and popped right after they opened with no appointment hoping to be seen. The front desk staff was extremely accommodating, especially under the current Quarantine circumstances that we are all dealing with. Chris is really good at his job. Makes my feet feel all nice and relaxed.. all the miles and sweat takes a toll on my body mind and soul but he makes sure I'm protecting my joints and muscles w my custom orthotics. I hurt my ankle recently and needed a custom prosthetics aka walking cast. My doctor took 3 days to process my cast inquiry after I saw her, but Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics called me from the Pleasanton office. I informed that I did not want to drive in traffic and a distance when my ankle is already aggravating me. The Pleasanton office gave me the phone number to the Oakland office. When I called, the customer service was friendly and helpful. The lady over the phone gave me an estimated time frame of how long my fitting would take. Although I got there late for my morning appointment, they still took me and I waited for about 5 minutes. The process was fast as I signed some forms. The guy who fitted me was friendly and helpful. He taught me how to walk with them (I felt like a toddler again learning my first steps). The product was sturdy and helped me walk without twisting or hurting my ankle even more. It gave me a lot of support. As the guy put it, the "Nike" of orthopedics. Amazingly, I could even inflate and deflate my walking cast or "boot". The place does not open on the weekends. Closes at 5pm on the weekdays. Appointments must be scheduled in advance preferably through your physician. TIP: THIS PLACE IS TECHNICALLY NOT on Hegenberger. Once you pass the Walmart parking lot, you must make a right turn. You will see the Health Mart (behind the gas station on Hegenberger). Park there and you will see this place along with the address # 433. The guy who fitted me told me that the gas station wasn't there in the past and now it confuses people because technically the place is on Edgewater. read more

I got some compression stockings here in 2012 and now need another pair because I developed a blood clot from a long airplane flight. Let's just say that if my insurance was contracted with another provider, I would not go to Hanger. In 2012 and now, my condition required that I start wearing the stockings immediately. However, Hanger requires that I be measured first and they did/do not have anybody available to do the measuring for over 2 weeks. (Cosmically speaking, it's perfect that their first opening is on April Fools day.) Also, they do not stock standard sizes so I had to and will have to wait another 10 days for the stockings to arrive. Never mind that I was fully capable of measuring my ankles and calves in 2012 and that my measurements have not changed since 2012. I explained the timing issue and gave them the measurements as they gave them to me in 2012. I might have gotten a better response if I explained it to the wall. I guess Insurance pays for measuring so I will have it, whether or not it's necessary. In 2012, and when I phoned last week and today, the receptionists were horribly inefficient. Last week, the receptionist put me on hold for 10 minutes and then told she was too busy to answer a question about the prescription. Today, I had to ask three times before she gave me a non-definitive answer. Finally, the receptionist told me that I might have to pay for the visit and stockings out of pocket because my insurance may not cover it. I asked the receptionist if she could check and she responded like it was an imposition. "We can check when you come in," she said. Why in the world would I wait 2+ weeks, take time off work and drive to their facility to find that out? If I had to pay out of pocket, I would go to a medical supply store today and it would not be Hanger. There's only so far I'll go to serve as their April Fool. ------- Addendum After a few more phone calls Natalie agreed to order the stockings and Yolanda confirmed that my insurance covered it. I was told the stockings would come in 10 days ago. I still don't have the stockings. This morning, Jessica said it was because only she can confirm insurance coverage and she just did it yesterday. When it comes to giving runaround, Hanger is an Olympic champion. read more

While the technician is very empathetic, the time between appointments, adjustments, etc.. has pushed out being able to get a pair of customized foot orthotics to over 6 months. At my previous medical group I could just get the orthotics through my doctor and adjustments were done immediately. In the meantime my feet have developed plantar fasciitis and I am limiting all activity. Not sure why it takes so long to get these. Would not recommend . read more

Other than the orthotists who are soft spoken, the front desk receptionists are the most unfriendly, unprofessional, incompetent people of any clinics/medical facilities I've ever been to. They make this place appear to be cold and uninviting. Not to mention, they give you such poor, confusing directions to get there. Once they buzz you in, the two front desk receptionists do not greet you but just show their mean, grouchy faces. Particularly the receptionist, who sits on the left side. She is snappy, rude, impatient, intimidating, and disrespectful with a very bad attitude. They are not nice talking to people over the phone either. Those receptionists have the poorest people skills, and appear to be among very unhappy, insensitive people on earth. I hope the owners of this organization will disguise themselves as patients and visit this location to experience it. read more

Wow. I brought my dear friend in to get fitted with a brace. The patient was Michael Phelps. The Dr/Technician was so informative and had a great sense of humor which really put Mike at ease. I definitely would recommend this place to others especially good with elderly patients. read more

I have to wear orthopedic shoes to heal diabetic ulcers on my feet. The fitting was fast and professional - though my insurance got complex they stayed with it and the shoes are the best I have ever had - fit perfectly the first time, do what they are supposed to do and I couldn't be happier unless I won the lottery, Amazing what good shoes can do. I was sent here by Kaiser. The earliest appointment available was 3 weeks away. Well I could barely walk for 3 months while Kaiser gave me the usual run around, what was another 3 weeks...(rrriiight). I go in and am taken to a room filled with TOYS and children's braces etc and the young lady, as she is casting my foot for the brace tells me " I don't usually work with adults " RED FLAG. My brace arrives 3 weeks later, I go in and the same young lady puts the brace on, and gives me directions ...It doesn't feel good at all,she tells me to go home and try a different shoe. I do... worse. Bring it with me to PT and am told to return it .I go to the web site by the person who invented the brace -COMPLETELY wrong , starting out with the casting for the fit!. Next appointment-2 MORE weeks away. A young man recasts and apologizes. Says he'll put a rush on it"7-10 days at most". 2&1/2 weeks later I call to see if has arrived- yes. Next appointment available in 7 days. I go on the warpath- I'm told to come in at 4:30....staff is walking out the door ...young man puts it in and I get the bums rush out the door. = By this time my foot has collapsed COMPLETELY , the brace ("very expensive " they tell me) wont help at all. I receive a survey from Hanger and I fill it out honestly in detail. A month later I am sent to Hanger again for a knee brace and feel the heat. Obviously they know about the survey...not the nice staff they were before! This knee brace is "custom" as ordered and the young man decides I need another type. Convinced me it will be better. I'm hesitant but he's persistent .It arrives 3 weeks later ... you guessed it- completely wrong. Back to kaiser and you know how the story goes- downward spiral. I have to strong arm and scream and shout like any kaiser member who wants or needs to survive because "THRIVE" is a total farce. Surgery to reconstruct my foot- 6 months later and I was just fitted for a custom knee brace NOT AT HANGER! read more

Boots arrived in 20 days a full ten days before my originally scheduled appointment and the district manager, Jake was on hand to assist in trying the boots for fit and post pick advice. The information and genuine concern extended by Jake was quite unexpected but am thoroughly satisfied with the way that Hanger Clinic performed in hooking me up with my third pair of annual custom fit shoes. Its day two and I have worn for two hours as instructed and there are no problems so far and I have no doubt that these will last the entire year with no slippage and little wear. These are waterproof as well! These and Hanger Clinic are the answer to one of my daily prayers. I couldn't be more blessed. read more
