Although I saw red pepper flakes, it was more flavorful than spicy, which I was happy about. It did come with a hot pepper sauce for those who enjoy additional spice (not me). The Mac and cheese was really tasty! Very cheesy with a smoky taste. The beans were also great, with a smoky taste. The staff were super nice as well. She explained the flavors of each side to a tee. The four stars is because the servings were so small. I wanted more of each side!

My foodie friends always think I'm crazy out and about in the 757 scouring for new food trucks. I…read morescored big time on a new truck to the Hampton Roads area. I found Pitt County BBQ at the Bayside Harley Davidson dealer in Portsmouth. The smell of the awesome q from their smoker waffled through the 5 acre complex. Of course there was a line on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Lot gif folks out looking for new bikes and enjoying fantastic food truck barbecue. What immediately struck me was how clean the trailer was, like new! The orange color was striking as well and drew my attention from the road. I just had to try them out. Once at the window a female staff directed me to their menu and was kind enough to direct me to their best seller the pulled pork. I ordered a combo with sides of baked beans and macaroni & cheese. Also a bottle water. All transactions are automated and can apply tip. Prices were in line for a food truck. In no time my name was called with everything bagged up and plastic utensils. I popped the lid open to the wonderful aromas. The pulled pork sandwich was enormous, guessing a half pound of meat. It was two inches thick. A sweet in-house BBQ is in a container along with slaw. I set my sandwich up with a small amount of their sauce which is very thin and smelled yummy. The owner Wendell came out to say hello. They are a new truck that had operated in NC previously. The name Pitt County is derived from its namesake county that has a long history of award winning barbecue. That first bite of sandwich was heaven and I added more of the sauce. I decided to eat the slaw independently and just WOW on flavors popping out of the tiny cup. The beans were standard but good! The macaroni was prepared differently with the type of noodles used and offered plenty of cheese and nice flavor. However no wow factor but most certainly holds its own. If I had to do over I would have got slaw as a side. This is a must find truck folks. They began operations in 757 early this year and do catering as well. They also offer a few items of merchandise. I hope they come closer to my house, but hey I would drive again for them. Follow their movements on their website and Facebook page. Be prepared for an incredible truck meal.

I have been here several times to pick up food, but this was my first time actually going inside to order. The line was long around lunchtime, but it moved quickly. It is fast casual style, so you walk down the line choosing what you want and then pay at the register. I honestly had no idea that was how it worked before, so I was prepared to wait a while. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient everything was. I was in and out much faster than expected. While putting my order together, the man helping me handed me a sample rib over the counter. I am a very socially awkward person and do not handle unexpected moments very gracefully, so I probably reacted a little awkwardly. That part was on me. The rib was GOOD though. He was very kind about my reaction and even handed me a napkin. The whole staff was friendly, asking how my week was going and checking in to make sure everyone was happy. Even though it was busy, they clearly care about customer service. The food was great. The garlic and green onion sausage had so much flavor, and the bananamisu was the perfect sweet finish. I originally went in hoping to order the BBQ oxtail, but they were sold out within two hours of opening, which honestly says a lot about how good they must be. I had also gone the day before around 7 PM and they had already closed because they were sold out for the day. Just a heads up that they do close early if they run out of food. Overall, great food, friendly staff, and quick service. I will definitely be back and hopefully I will finally catch the oxtail next time.

I love accidentally discovering new businesses! I visited JR Street Dining on accident just…read moreswinging by Smartmouth Pilot House for some "fast food" via food truck after work. They have only been operating for a month now, this was their third brewery appearance. For appetizers they have a buffalo chicken dip and pimento cheese nacho- talk about solid brewery apps! Most of their menu items are types of wraps. Their special was chicken fajita tacos (Cinco de Mayo celebration) and for dessert they had a crispy ice cream sandwich. One unique thing that I don't see many food trucks do, is they offer kids menu items as well! Again- it is just their third day- this could all be totally different once they are more established and have tried different things. I opted to get the ice cream sandwich, because I'm a total sucker for dessert. I ate this first. Two crispy shells with a cinnamon sugar mix and if I'm not wrong it possibly a second seasoning that had a little kick to it. Maybe it was a touch of cayenne? Definitely not strong or overpowering in spice, just a little something to make it interesting. In the middle was a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The vanilla was complimented by the cinnamon and the chocolate was complimented by whatever that other ingredient was. I was definitely a fan! The more I ate the more I wanted more! I also got the chicken fajita taco special. I should point out that if I didn't go for the food truck option at Smartmouth I was headed to my favorite taco spot in VB. Maybe it was the unintentional comparison of the authentic street taco from my favorite spot, but these tacos fell a little flat for me. Not letting it really affect my review, because I did eat dessert first and then I messed around taking pictures before getting to them. It might be a "it's not you, it's me" thing with the tacos- I'll own this one. The tacos were served with a side of corn on the cob. It had a lemon cilantro butter which was fantastic! I'll definitely be craving that corn again sometime! The prices were on the lower-side of average for the food truck scene in Hampton Roads. Prices are another thing that might change as they are in business longer. They were also extra friendly from the moment I stepped up to the truck! Offering me whatever I needed and even getting out of the truck to come ask me a question of convenience, not necessity. I know several spots that would have just shouted it or not even bothered. So far so good! I hope they keep popping up at Smartmouth VB so I can try more of their menu and see how they change things up as they get a few more months of operation behind them! I'll definitely be updating as I try more! Next time I'm definitely going for the pimento cheese nachos!
