It is what it is- regular and it did its best to do so. Got the chix salad and I can't complain. It's a chicken salad. Great potato salad too! Connected to Handsome Biscuit

The owners of Handsome Biscuit and Toast set up an interesting yet simplistic concept with Regular Ass Sandwich; a specialization in "regular" sandwiches, sides, and drinks, with no frills or gimmicks. They're an online order only operation, and everything has a base price of $10. The food here is reminiscent of when your mom packed you that good good lunch for a school field trip (especially with available side choices like fruit roll-ups, oatmeal cream pies, and big league chew bubble gum). I personally ordered the "Regular Ass Club" and opted to add pimento cheese for a $1 extra. The sandwich was a nice size, came piled high with meat, and the pimento cheese set it off just right! *chefs kiss* Overall, I recommend putting in an order here if you're looking for a regular ass, yet delicious and nostalgic lunch.

Regular Ass Sandwich is the latest venture from David Hausmann and John Porter, the creative duo who conceived the ever popular Handsome Biscuit and Toast. I am a fan of both. This one is located inside a former convenience store across the street from Handsome Biscuit in Park Place. When the store closed, its parking lot provided extra spaces for their customers. The owners took over the store as well and began to convert it into a commercial kitchen, serving as a base for prepping ingredients for their other restaurants. Their new sandwich shop actually opened in June, but it was not well known. I only found about it earlier this month. It existed as a sort of "phantom" restaurant for those in the know and who had their delivery apps. Their food was only available through third party delivery services. The name doesn't exactly excite me. Two definitions of "regular" I looked up were "average" and "ordinary." If I am going to order a sandwich from any type of eatery, I want one that goes above and beyond the average and the ordinary. Their concept was explained further by the ownership in a recent article from The Virginian-Pilot: "I don't think people are looking for anything intense. They're all a little nervous, looking for traditional things that bring them comfort." That doesn't fit me. I am always looking for bold and intense flavors that go beyond the traditional and expand my comfort zone. Another quote: "There's nothing to lie about: it's a regular ass sandwich, and the goal is to catch you on the day you forgot about lunch, and you don't want to risk eating anything bad." That doesn't fit me either. Lunch is my main meal of the day and one I never forget. I do not eat out with the sole intent to avoid "eating anything bad." I want something good. Inside ordering for pick-up is now available. With no dining area at this time, their ordering space is attractively decorated with what they describe as a "Rad" look and vibe. Colorful skateboards dangle from the ceiling as Rap tunes provide an upbeat mood. Service is friendly. You order at the counter from a touch screen by credit card only. You can customize your order with various add-ons with small up charges. I didn't see any jalapenos listed, which was a disappointment. Any sandwich plus a drink and a side is only $10 with no add-ons. You can actually order for less. For my first visit I ordered my sandwich with no drink, no side, and no add-ons for only $7.68. Their sides and drinks are listed on the menu of their web site. Their Trading Cards feature MTV Rap Artists. Each sandwich is served on Wheat Berry Bread. It is a cut above the Wonder Bread my mother used for the sandwiches she made me as a kid. Otherwise, I find it quite ordinary with an average taste and texture. During my customary three visits, I tried the following: JUST ROAST BEEF: Hormel Thinly Sliced Roast Beef, Shredded Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, and Horsey (Horseradish) Sauce on the side. I ordered this one with no drink, sides, or add-ons. The flavors of this one fell flat for me. The slices of roast beef were stiff and chewy. The lettuce tasted dry and lifeless. The "horsey" sauce added a bit of zing, but not enough. Overall, I found this sandwich bland, ordinary, and uninspiring. My Rating: 3 Stars A SIMPLE PIMENTO & HAM SANDWICH: Hormel Pit Cooked Ham stacked high with Pimento Cheese. I ordered Tomato and Bacon as add-ons, as well as a Dr, Brown's Root Beer and an Oatmeal-Creme Pie for my drink and side. I had better luck with this one. The thickly layered pimento cheese provided a pleasantly tangy flavor that perked up the flavors of the ham and other ingredients nicely. It wasn't the best pimento and ham sandwich I've had, but it managed to deliver a decent taste. My Rating: 4 Stars. REGULAR ASS CLUB: Traditional Club Sandwich with Smoked Turkey, Hormel Pit Cooked Ham, Hardwood Smoked Bacon. Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, and House Made Herb Mayo on the side. Ordered with a Dr. Brown's Root Beer and a bag of Kettle Chips. The flavors of this one fell totally flat for me and were very bland, killing my hopes of rallying my review to a higher rating. It didn't taste bad. It just didn't taste particularly good. My Rating: 3 Stars. If I could tweak their concept, I would upgrade the quality of their sandwiches to a cut above the "regular" and maybe change its name to "Kick Ass Sandwich." I would find that more enticing. There are a number of nearby restaurants in walking distance from this one, where their sandwiches give me a much better taste experience. I get the nostalgia they are trying to capture with their sandwiches, but not at the expense of quality. Let quality become job one. Their "regular" concept just doesn't work for me. We all have different tastes. If you are curious, give this place a try. You might like it better than I did. I plan to return in a few months in hopes I can post an updated review with a higher rating.

I was at work, starving and did not bring a lunch. It was also too windy and cold to want to drive anywhere! This place popped up with a delivery option right underneath it! I'm a regular ass person with a regular ass pallet. I like very simple things because I can be very picky. I got the regular ass club with a Dr. Browns and chips. The chips are the kettle cooked which are the best. Not sure who Dr. Brown is but that black cherry soda was very good. And the sand which was HUGE! So much meat! Highly recommend! Food got to me fast and packaged great! Also I had every piece of my order! Also props to the grub hub person who delivered it, made this place even better to me.

Veggie sandwich no peppers subbed tomato. Side of potato salad.

It has been nearly three weeks; I can stop thinking about No Frill Bar and Grill…read more I'm a military spouse, so I know my time in Hampton Roads is coming to an end soon. I visited a Hampton Roads Restaurant group on FB and asked if someone was visiting from out of town: What is your go-to place to take them? Out of 90+ comments, No Frill Bar and Grill was mentioned the most - six times! So when I finally had a day off and some other business to tend to in Norfolk, it was the perfect excuse to finally try them. No Frill Bar and Grill has been open for nearly 30 years by Jerry Meltsner. Jerry's nephew Jon Kliner helps co-own and manage operations. It originally opened on Tidewater Drive, but the space didn't allow for much growth - 10 years later, he moved to a location off Colley Avenue and Spotswood Avenue. Growth continued, moving from counter service to table service. The second location, at 1620 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, opened in 2005. The restaurant's longevity stems from quality, consistency, price, service, and staff who genuinely care about the business and serving the community. I asked the server for her opinion on two options - Salmon, Shrimp and grits won. The dish was incredible: lightly blackened salmon, for once blackened food that doesn't just taste like salt. I don't dine with the swine, so I asked for no andouille sausage. The sautéed shrimp, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon ale sauce over cheesy grits and Boursin lavash cracker. The cheesy grits were smooth, and the Boursin lavash cracker was a nice touch. The Boursin added extra creaminess to the meal. The cracker wasn't really a cracker - more like little toasted bread. After this first meal, I know two things for sure: 1. I definitely understand why it is such a local favorite, and 2. I will be back.

The service is always great and the hosts/servers are always friendly. Our go to is the meatloaf. when you're looking for a good ol' comfort food - that's the best. They also have amazing desserts that are worth a try. We found this restaurant good for families (including our toddler)! Food was toddler approved!

Looking back at my photos from this visit brings a bittersweet feeling because the person I came…read morehere with is no longer in my life. However, looking past the personal nostalgia, my objective view of Baker's Crust remains incredibly high. This place truly delivers a solid dining experience. Here is my honest breakdown of the food and the vibe: The Fried Chicken & Egg: The fried chicken was absolutely delicious--the sauce they used was incredible and paired so well with the crispiness. As you can see from my photos, the fried egg on top was cooked to absolute perfection. The Drinks: The presentation of the food and drinks was beautiful and highly aesthetic. Just a little heads-up on the cocktails/drinks: they definitely pour them strong here! It gave me a tiny bit of a buzz, so pace yourself if you aren't looking to get tipsy too quickly. The Ambience & Service: The service was attentive and thoughtful throughout our meal. The AC was adjusted perfectly--not too cold, not too hot. The only minor downside to the environment is that it can get a little loud and bustling inside. Parking Tip: Since it's located in a busy commercial area, finding a parking spot can be a bit of a challenge. Give yourself a few extra minutes to park. When to visit: This spot is the ultimate destination if you want to catch up with friends, talk business in a casual setting, or simply treat yourself to a relaxing weekend morning. Honestly, it's best enjoyed on the weekend when you can actually slow down. Coming here on a busy weekday might not feel as worth it, simply because you won't have the time to truly sit back and savor the atmosphere. Even though times change and people move on, this place remains a wonderful spot for creating good moments.
