Loved the delicious briskets- very tender meat and nice flavors. The sides were too mushy in my opinion. Cornbread was like pudding as was the mac and cheese. Too soft and too sweet. The ribs were ok. Hardly any meat for the ones I received. The pulled pork, I wouldn't get again. Stringy and dry. Their new banana infused tiramisu was delicious. However, it should be just called banana pudding. It would be more fitting. Parking can be found in the rear of the entrance or on the street. I wouldn't mind revisiting if another friend wants to go.

Brisket, green onion sausage. Beans!!! and tater salad sides. $23.

Great service. Plenty of seats and great selection. Brisket was only available in fatty. Still great flavor. Green onion sausage had a nice snap to go along with various sauces. Wife was not impressed with portion size 2 small slices of brisket. She ordered the burnt ends to split with me.

Came here to pick up lunch and there's a long line out the door so expectations for us was high. We ordered their professional platter (better deal than their family pack) as it comes with five types of meats and three large sides. You have to pay extra for some meats in family pack which brings it closer to the professional platter. For sides, we got the broccoli salad, cilantro slaw, mac n cheese. Added their corn pudding. Platter comes with bread and pickles, onions and jalapeño. Sides tasted great. Service was friendly and great. They have a sitting area but we did takeout. Pro tip: come early as they sell out by late afternoon.

Redwood smoke shack in the Ghent area of Norfolk is an excellent choice if your craving Texas style BBQ. I stopped in right as they opened and ordered the two meat platter, Mac and cheese and potato salad. You will definitely require a box! The brisket was perfect and not too greasy. The pulled chicken was a bit bland but the sauces on the table helped add flavor! The service was great! They offer the toast rewards program that can earn you money off future orders and although their prices are higher the value of the food is worth it! Cool decor and sauces/spices are for sale too! Check them out if you're in Norfolk but get there early before they sell out!

When we arrived, there was no line so the workers behind the counter kept asking us if you want fries or what we wanted to order, but we were still looking at the menu which caused us to panic and get the two meat platter that comes with 2 sides. We got pulled pork and ribs. We enjoyed the meat we chose as well as the sides. We got mac n cheese and baked beans. We also ordered their 5 wings and I haven't tried that before. The wings were a 10/10. We decided not to eat inside after ordering because we just felt rushed so we took the order home. There are many areas to sit at and the location is pretty decent size.

Thee BEST bbq place to go to ever! Their food is so good and flavorful. This is my go to spot for ribs, brisket, smoked wings, etc. The service is always great they get you in and out the line quickly. On busier days such as the weekends or holidays, I recommend placing an order in advanced online. The ambiance is nice they have a nice patio style enclosed seating area if you choose to eat inside.

After experiencing the great food & wonderful hospitality of founder & owner Bob Roberts at their new Suffolk location I knew I had to visit their first brick and mortar store in Norfolk. I just didn't envision it being the next day, It was an afternoon of exploration in Fort Norfolk after a doctor appointment at a medical building in that area. On to an early dinner at a restaurant in West Ghent. My visit to the new Suffolk restaurant has sparked my interest in their "sold out" Corn Pudding & Pulled Pork. The Pit Smoked Beans were so delicious that I had to have more, lots more. So after dinner there was time to go for takeout at the nearby Redwood Smoke Shack. Most longtime Norfolk residents & natives will recognize the location as the former site of the Dog-N-Burger Grille. Its fronts Manteo Street just steps from 21st Street in the heart of Ghent. The distinctive Redwood Smoke Shop logo & design were easily recognized when approaching. Street parking directly across the street from the entrance was convenient. Entering I saw a much smaller area than the Suffolk location. This could be expected for the first restaurant. Its location in Ghent also wouldn't allow the spaciousness found in Suffolk. There was a serving line and a store merchandise area that faced it. It was exciting that they hadn't run out of either the Pulled Pork or the Corn Pudding. I ordered an extra large container of Corn Pudding & Pit Smoked Beans to complement the large container of Pulled Pork. My friend who had worked just around the corner for many years mentioned to the employee serving her that the location had been the site of Dog-N-Burger, a regular stop for her throughout the years. The friendly serving line personnel indicated that they still had the Dog-N-Burger door on the side. I love a business preserving prior history of the location. Exploration followed. There was a separate building with the lettering "da Shack" painted prominently near the top. It was filled with tables and people eating. I'm assuming that was the location of the smokers before the massive smoker room in Suffolk took over that task. An alley between the two buildings led to an outdoor area where people were eating at picnic tables. The grand finale came the next two nights when dinner was the takeout I had purchased. The Corn Pudding was amazing with a cornmeal based taste, which was appreciated by this patron who grew up in the Deep South. The slightly sweet taste was perfect since it was not too sweet for my unsweet tooth. Pit Smoked Beans were as perfect as before. They are a combination of several types of beans with a slight sweet & a kick of hot. An enormous plus was that it was beans in sauce, not sauce with beans as many barbecue restaurants serve. I really could eat the beans every night of the week. The Texas Style Pulled Pork was new for me after only experiencing North Carolina style. It wasn't chopped but was larger pieces of pork. It was excellent. It was another excellent experience at a Redwood Smoke Shack. Thank you Bob Roberts for introducing Coastal Virginia to your Texas Style barbecue & sides, each prepared with love & perfection.

Best barbecue in Hampton Roads that I have found. As a native Memphian, it's hard for me to find good BBQ outside of Tennessee and Texas. This one sweeps all of the other establishments in the area! The brisket was tender, the pork belly was delicious, and the sides complemented the meal perfectly. My personal favorites were the corn pudding and the beans. The broccoli salad was a little too vinegary for my taste, but still tasty. The fries were crisp and fresh and perfectly seasoned. If you're a barbecue snob like us, come give this place a try!

Is this my favorite BBQ joint??? I reckon so! They have the BEST brisket and burnt ends. Great smoked wings, ribs, sausage, you name it - all the proteins are incredible. Don't sleep on their sides either. You can't get corn pudding from too many places, and even then, it's rarely don't right but Redwood hits the mark. Also, their version of banana pudding is to die for. Redwood offers specials that you don't wanna miss. For example, they often have loaded baked potatoes on Thursdays which I had been dying to try and finally managed to make my way from Richmond to Norfolk to snag one. And omg, beyond worth it!!! Just like most righteous BBQ joints, they can sell out at any given time and the line and stretch out the wazu, so get there early.

Whenever I don't feel like smoking or barbecuing my own meat, this is where I go that will always be my go to spot love the fact that we were introduced to them over four years ago. Been in love with it ever since check out the Virginia Beach and Suffolk locations as well as the Norfolk one everything is always consistent in the same. I've never been disappointed no matter which way I've gone for meat, selection, and sides

Went to grab my fiancé something to eat. Unfortunately it was around 7pm and most items were sold out. I was able to get some burnt ends, a sausage & I grabbed a smoked pickle to try. My fiancé enjoyed the meats and I really liked the pickle. I will have to try the employees recommendation next time and make fried pickles out of it!! I definitely need to come back on a Thursday to try the turkey!! Best bbq in the area!!

Best BBQ in Hampton Roads 757!!! Excellent service. All locations are very clean especially the restroom. I have been a fan since they just had the food truck. Bring your credit card Lol but Damn worth it!!!

Hands down the best bbq I've had in years!!! The burnt ends are straight !!! So good, and you can't go wrong with any side, whether it's the Mac n cheese, fries, or collard greens. The only main dish I've ordered has been the burnt ends, and it was so good I ordered seconds the first time I came in. You will not be disappointed, come give it a try!

So, this is a preliminary review based on my experience at today's inaugural food truck rally here…read morein the Hampton Roads. For this, I'll be departing from my normal style of writing to write an educated and informal post in hopes that the truckers will read this and make amends for the next gathering. Before the actual review, I'd like to thank WHRO for graciously hosting the event. Onto the business end of the stick... I showed up at 1:40PM, an hour and forty minutes after the event started. When I got there I went in what appeared to be the shortest line, which was for Norfolk Ramen (NR). In line I asked the person in front of me how long they had been waiting and they said for 15 minutes so far and that there was a second line to wait in to get your food. Still I waited, and waited, and waited. 25 minutes later I heard that NR ran out of the item I was interested in. No bueno mi compadre. I decided to go for another line; this time it was Stuft. A friend of mine who had already gotten food from them said the wait was only around 35 min and the tacos were pretty decent. 25 minutes into this wait Stuft called the line off and said they had ran out of food. ¡Que verracos pasa! At this point I was pissed, so I left. I not only worked in the gourmet food truck circles, but have also visited the various circles across the country. My experience was horrible and I know that I am not alone because the two girls that were behind me also left the NR line to go to the line for Stuft. This is unacceptable. What it is reflective of is very poor preparation. Did anyone think to call the plethora of great trucks from the food truck rallies/farmers markets from around the country for expertise? Not only have they been doing this for a while, handle greater volume, have more expansive menus, and do it all with wait times in the range of 5 to 10 minutes. I already know the answer to the question is no. There are a lot of people kissing your collective arses at the moment, because the majority of them do not know any better which is a shame in itself. Excuses like you didn't know people were going to show, it's hard working in those trucks, etc. You saw the RSVPs on FB, you new of the collective noise in the HR area via the various media/online outlets, and it's cramped but there benefits to working in the truck as well. So, I guess I will be the critic in the crowd and call for results. If you want to successfully join the culinary movement sweeping across the States, then simply do better. Have enough food for the crowds, have enough staff to assist, and do the prep work necessary to punch down wait times. Why this isn't a one star review is because of the location (good), the idea (also good), and from what I saw of the food (it looked good). Suggestions for the venue organizers... Maybe have an on-site portable ATM and invite a craft beer truck. I'll update this review after attending the next rally.

After scanning the menu, I was in between getting the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Moon Burger, both sounded good. I went ahead and got the Chicken sandwich which had fried chicken, burrata, hot honey, lettuce and pickles on a potato bun and came with fries. This sandwich was a beastly treat. Thick, juicy, flavorful and super satisfying. My only complaint would be how soggy the bottom bread gets and falls apart but that can hardly be helped with such a top-heavy combination. The fries were incredible and were reminiscent of McDonalds fries in the best way possible. The Moon sauce that came on the side was a pleasant accompaniment with a buttermilk ranch profile with a bit tangy flavor. I loved this meal so much I was looking forward to the next time I could try the burger which I did at an event at the MOCA. The moon burger came juicy and smashed with pepperjack, caramelized onions, lettuce, pickle and that moon sauce on a Martins potato bun. This was easily one of the BEST burgers I have had in a while it was hot, incredibly juicy, loaded with toppings and super satisfying. Inherently I am not a pickle person, but I loved the pickles on this because they were sweet and spicy and provided a good balance of flavor. Again, the bottom bun got soggy but that's expected at this point. I opted for the moon sauce on the side to dip my fries in which were nice and crispy. I will say BB's sandwich was burnt on one side so he couldn't enjoy his as much but mine was easily a 9/10. I recommend giving this truck a try for sure they have a knack for ingredients and quality overall.
