A seriously magical store for kids. The Hankie Babies clothing line is darling and the curation of the rest of the items in the store is incredible. I've been into the store many times and there's always a ton of cute new items. Plus, the owner and her staff have always been truly friendly and helpful. My only problem with the store is simply that I want to buy everything in it :). If you want to give thoughtful and unique gifts, or just treat your own family, this is the place to go. This is my first review on Yelp I've ever written. I just went to this store with my husband and 2 year old to look for some special clothes for our new baby on the way. At 4:45, while we were browsing, a woman (owner?) said, "Excuse me, but we are trying to close so, you need to hurry up, not to be rude". We looked at our clock and said "We thought you closed at 5." She said "It is 5." We then said, "It's 4:45", to which she said "I was looking at another clock", indicating we should still leave. We had made a special trip to this store and are so disappointed by how rudely we were treated. Won't be returning as there are other boutiques in the area that are welcoming and have unique children's clothes and toys. BIG BUMMER. read more

First off let me start by saying, that customer service aside, I would rate this store as 3 stars. Toys/Books - This store has a nice selection of books and handmade toys. Clothes - The clothes are all hand made which is cool, but not once have I been able to find something cute for either a boy or a girl. Gift Wrap - I've purchased several toys/books as gifts from this store and the gift wrap and gift tags are very strange, very gaudy and not at all geared for kids or elegant. I was actually embarrassed to present gifts in the wrapping, but I leave my gift shopping to the last minute so I was never able to re-wrap. Customer Service - I am the mother of the toddler, so I am no stranger to dirty, disapproving looks. Everyone loves a baby, but very few can appreciate the wild, strong will of a toddler! I went into this store today with my toddler and my friends toddler, and left after trying to look around and having the clerk blatantly ignore us (not once saying anything to us), and give us dirty looks. Our kids were getting into stuff - playing with a play kitchen on display and dumping a basket of toy cars on the floor - YES, they absolutely were, because they are toddlers and that is what they do. We were so embarrassed by the hostility of the clerk that we quickly picked up our kids mess and left. Ironically, our next stop was Joans on Third, and my daughter was horrific, she threw a glass plate and broke it and was whiney and loud. The staff at Joan's was very understanding and pleasant, even though they didn't have to be, that is a nice cafe and I could understand them being upset with my daughters behavior. I would expect to be treated poorly at a restaurant, but not a kids store, where moms are their main customers. Their understanding made me even more upset by how we were treated at Hankie Babies - a kids store! They should be understanding. Long story short, I called and asked to speak to the owner, the woman on the phone said she was the owner and the clerk who was on duty when we were there. She told me that our kids were messing up her store and that it was a store not a playroom and that it took her 20 minutes to clean up after them. She was so rude, and grossly exaggerating...we cleaned up after them, and if she was cleaning stuff for 20 minutes then it must have been an existing mess. I hate being judged and mistreated as a mother - it's a hard enough job without the dirty looks. I will never shop here again, and if you do, just make sure to leave your kids at home! read more

I found some really cute clothes for my boy, age 3! Truth be told, I had sought out Entertaining Elephants and when there were no sizes for my boy we wandered into this shop. It's next to Joan's (well there's an aquarium shop in between)They have A LOT of stuff. It kinda comes off as consignment yet there are super cute treasures at decent prices. (To qualify that, pants are around $30, so compared to Bel Bambini, they're practically free!) The woman who helped us was *very* enthusiastic. I said a couple times that I was just looking, yet with each inquiry she got a little info from me. Then, as I was trying to browse, really cute things, sized for my son, started flying at me. She's a wizard and knows every inch of that store. If you're the type that doesn't like to be hounded by sales people, know that Jordy really wants to help. Just give her age and size, maybe occasion or clothing type sought & she'll assemble ensembles in the flash of an eye. If anything you've got to slow her down or explain what limits you have. My son, will be quite daper for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, plus most days in between, lol! read more

This store is beyond belief with toys, books, and the most unique clothing one could imagine! In spite of the worst storm to hit SoCal in a decade we couldn't stop ourselves going in and shopped with success! I was in this store today with my child, husband, a friend and her child. It is crowded with merchandise to an extent that makes the aisles hard to navigate, but the merchandise is charming and well made. My friend showed me a few things she'd purchased there previously, and our children picked up a few toys and showed them to a third child. I chatted with a mom about ideas for distracting toddlers on airplane. As my daughter and I were looking at something, a store clerk said to my friend, whose child was within arms reach, not running, touching anything or being loud, "Excuse me, could you please supervise your child, um... a bit better" in the most condescending tone. At the time, her child was within her arms' reach as well as mine. If the store has some specific idea of what supervision looks like they might add that information to the long list of "no's" posted at the front. Why not say instead "I'm worried that x might be knocked over" rather than chastising someone for their parenting in general. And if children make you so nervous, why have a store for them. I've often shopped similar stores in Larchmont and elsewhere on Ventura without such ill treatment. The name is ironic...I don't know what might befall you if your child ever actually needed a hankie in this shop. I'll never go back, so I will never know. read more
