I am an addict who went to Hanley and here is an honest assessment of their services. I've been sober for almost two years now and ended up going to Caron Renaissance after leaving Hanley. The people (patients) at Hanley were great, and the food was excellent, but sadly, that's where the positive ends. The primary doctor at Hanley is absolutely horrible, is more concerned about getting you off all medication than actually treating you. I had a nasty infection in my ankle while there, which I was treating with lidocaine patches since I didn't know it was MIRSA. The doctor was more concerned about my use of lidocaine patches for my ankle than he was about actually identifying there was an infection that needed medical attention. He refused to allow me to get it tested for an infection, all while harrassing me nonstop about wanting more than two lidocaine patches a day. The only reason it was ultimately treated was because I left and went to Caron, whereby the nurse immediately identified it as an infection and sent me to a specialist to get it tested and treated. Had I stayed at Hanley, it would have spread to the bone and would required surgery to address it, assuming I would have addressed it myself after leaving (which thankfully I did). Beyond that single issue, there was a staff person who kept telling how much he suffered when he was shot in the hip and had to go to jail instead of the hospital. The ironic thing was that I had been shot in the face and survived, but he acted like his hip injury was worse than my facial injury, always up my ass about everything instead of listening to me and my concerns. I own multiple businesses and Hanley would not allow me to use my laptop to stay up to date with work and my companies. Furthermore, I had a major fraud issue I was dealing with and they refused to allow me to try and address the situation, telling me that my income and the livelihood of everyone who works for me was not important, and that I needed to only focus on all their BS programs and daily meetings. Their position was that no one and nothing mattered other than me attending all of their unnecessary meetings. After I left AMA, they just dumped me outside their facility without calling me an Uber or anything. Then they contacted my family and told them to file a Marchman Act against me to force me back into treatment, even though I was not opposed to it at all and only left to address the fraud issue with my bank (my entire bank account had been wiped out and my bank did not have locations in FL thus I had to go back home to address the issue with my bank). Furthermore, after speaking with my parents about what Hanley told them, we found out that Hanley lied to them about my condition and encouraged them to lie on the Marchman act by telling them I admitted to things I never had done in my life. If you care about getting and remaining sober, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. Go to Caron and thank yourself for being wise and choosing a more reputable place than Hanley. Oh, and given my facial injuries, I had to take daily pain medicine to keep me functioning, which was not my issue (alcohol was my issue), which Hanley then took me off of without properly detoxing me, leaving me almost paralyzed in pain and going through horrible withdrawals. Again, they were more concerned with getting me off all medications, even the ones I needed for BP and other things, than they were about actually treating my alcoholism. read more

I was referred to Hanley for the treatment of alcoholism. I can honestly say in a nutshell Hanley saved my life. The staff were very professional and more importantly, very caring. Hanley is overrated. They are a factory, one size fits all, for alcoholics. I had an opioid dependency due to chronic Lyme disease. The kept trying to put me in the alcohol protocol, which was a complete misdiagnosis. But they did manage to squeeze another $75k out of me. And half of the treated alcoholics resumed drinking after discharge, Overrated, ineffective, expensive with an in house doctor who had the worst unempathetic, ignorant bedside manner I've ever experienced. read more

This is my third time trying this review. screen keeps freezing on cell. is their a timer? .. I attached screen shot of my first review, The Gist to my review was: like all rehabs, Handley ( though great for alcohol and drugs, mental health) it is NOT designed/equipped for heavy Benzo withdrawal. for this your better drinking a lot water and hiking by yourself in New Zeeland or Appalachian trail ;; or just have a friend lock you in a basement for a week or two it will be hellish, but you come out clean. . Benzo are a specific detox; because suffering,true suffering, is inevitable and best not be around people if possible. That being said, Handley is a superb place for treatment of alcohol, recreational drug use, and mental health. Top notch treatment by kind professionally clinicians and Ra's and nurses ( all licensed RNS) I loved them all. Great food and clean well maintained campus. Top Shelf. ( NO pun) Unlike many rehabs who go through motions ( ex:Seafield LI) , The clinical staff are all smart, creative and invovative. Group therapy consist of all constructive and fun activities: Fire chair, Music therapy, mindful meditation, Gardening, word association games. Pictionary, building block games ect .Patients work together with out being burdened/ distracted/ harassed by invasive cell phones that are all locked up at arrival, so people actually interact! Make eye contact. This alone is worth$$ Speaking of Eye contact, Handley ( unlike most rehabs) have a strict no faradization policy. No talk talk to women!, Which, While certainly surreal, unnatural like Handsmiad tale ish).. is critical for the desired sober out come.Seperation Keeps focus on the group of guys you came in with. you will bond and develop life long friendships. On a negative note: my last week they allowed a severely mentally ill man in that contaminated the constructive, happy, and positive vibe of place. Ill sure they eventually fund another place for him. but made last week the worse. Every one on campus suffered. He broke all the rules with no consequences. Again: DONT go if specifically physically addicted ( over 5 years taken daily as prescribed 1 mg A DAY IS ABIG DOSE) to Bezos, specifically the most powerful one: ( SP?) Kolonopin. colonzopan widely known as K- pin (10 times stronger than popular zanex that stays in system ( half life) for only 3 days K pin 15! IT GETS IN BONES, DNA ect) more on benzo bellow for those interested ANYWAY, HANDLY , ORGINS.. will take your bottle/script on arrival and depose of it ( put in grinder) .. then aggressively detox you with other lighter benzo Ativan ( 9 day taper) you will feel good at first because they give you more than you came in on) but begin to suffer around your second week as it leaves system. These symptoms happen you 100 percent of people coming off k pin: You Won't sleep. if you do, nod off YOu will have horrific terrible vivid nightmares. Your body will be in pain, esp legs, Youl literally feel like your in the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. But worse you WONT be on the same progressive, positive vector/trajectory that most of the other patients are on and you will feel like your letting down community as they are all generally getting better with time away from a drink . There are powerful sleep meds avaible: in med line ( but not pushed) Trazadone, Seroquel ( not pushed) and a heinous new one that starts with a D , you get what youpay for: they knock you out, but the next day you are so drowzy your walking around like Harrison Ford in Regarding Hennery . you will be worse by your 4th week just at time of discharge; feeling worse not better. read more
