Prices are decent and quality of food is of the highest caliber. Overall a clean place with ample selection of fruits and vegetables. I have been going to Hannaford supermarkets weekly for most of my married life (we're talking 45 years). I've always loved the selection, fresh produce, and being able to find the brands I prefer. However, what's happened is one thing- they've changed the music. It seems like metal or angry types of music- it's impossible to ignore and was so distracting that I couldn't think to know what to buy. We ended up rushing out of the store and forgot some items on our list! We won't be coming back to Hannaford until they go back to some neutral background music. read more

The best supermarket in town and in the area. The prices here are so much better than Shaw's and Wal-Mart. This store is so clean and organized. The staff were super friendly and even got me out quick on a holiday weekend. We even rented a new release DVD from the vending kiosk for $1.00!! It was great that I got the sale prices with out having a "membership" card. read more

There's alot of attitude at the gilford nh hannaford,bad attitude.if you go there wearing a backpack expect to be glared at,have a code 450 center store or whatever part of the store your in called out over the intercom.they shut down the self checkout on me today.i've been a customer there almost 7 years.i was a customer anyway,enough bs and price gouging for me.the guy that looks like lukashenko is probably the one people are refering to in other reviews.theres a short somewhat good looking bitch at the deli that will purposely slice your cheese paper thin if you ask for thick slices.you wont find that out until you go to get some for a sandwich maybe a day or two later though.i'll just go to walmart and vista,but hope a market basket comes to gilford.i'm not homeless or a thief,I just like to bike around shopping when i can.i'm also a disabled army veteran nearly 60.don't assume everyone riding a bike wearing a backpack is a thief.i only spent about $1,000 a year there,so it's not a big deal to lose me as a customer.the reality is that i also don't need you,so later bitches. read more

Prepared food is awful Bought the 8pc cooked chicken. It had a thick, hard batter that peeled off like a shell. It covered very little chicken under the batter, which was dry and tasteless. The date said it was prepared that day, but looked and tasted like food that had sat for days. If you want prepared food, go to Market Basket or Shaw's. Hannafords doesn't know how to do it right. read more

I love shopping at Hannaford and the Gilford Hannaford is really nice. My review today is specifically for the Bakery. The ladies that work in the bakery are really friendly and helpful. The cakes are delicious. I recently purchased a birthday cake that my family raved about! It was a Golden cake with a chocolate Ganache frosting and the filling was Bavarian cream..... DELICIOUS! I am sad to say, once a fan of Hannaford's, no longer. I have had several disappointing experiences of late, but the most recent was the most disturbing. I went into the new store in Gilford to purchase some organic products, and while shopping, I noticed an overwhelming bleach smell coming from the meat department. After just 15 minutes in the store my eyes were watering and I started to get a headache. I went to the service desk to make them aware (they should have already been aware as the smell had made it all the way to the front of the store) and their response was very nonchalant, they simply said sorry, there is nothing we can do. Wow, really! First of all, I shop for organic food for my health, the last thing I need for my health is to be breathing in bleach while shopping. If Hannaford wants to use so much bleach that it permeates the entire store, then do the cleaning at night, not when the store is full of shoppers! Also, the services person who I complained to, could have cared less. Is that what Hannaford thinks of its customers??? I should say, ex-customers. I have shopped at Hannaford's for years and always sang their praises whenever I had the chance. No more, to many bad experiences of late! read more

Not impressed. I went through the check out, I grabbed my bags from the station. As I went to move it to turn it to see if I had any more bags left, the cashier stopped it from spinning in an aggressive manner. I just assumed I had gotten all my bags with her reaction. I got home, which is 35 to 40 minutes away and lo and behold, I didn't have all of my items. I should of listened to my gut and checked my items before I left the parking lot. I called the store and spoke to numerous people. At one point, I sat on the phone waiting for 7 minutes. Finally when a woman got on the phone and identified herself as the General Manager. I once again told her my story. She apologized several times, and admitted that it was her that checked me out that morning. She offered a 5.00 gift card for my troubles. Very rude! I have to say - I love Hannaford. I love browsing at this supermarket. Almost all of my family's health needs are met here. Besides, store is always clean and organized. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They have good prices on merchandise... We sourced just about everything we needed here. Prices are pretty good but of course "luxury" items like wine and cheese are still expensive. Everything you need in one stop they got in here. read more

Living in a rural area, options for grocery shopping are somewhat limited. Shopping at Hannaford is usually a positive experience! Customer service in this store is right on from the baggers to management. Employees are courteous, knowledgable and friendly. Many go out of their way to be helpful. The store is relatively new and is always very clean and other than the aisles seeming narrow on busy shopping days it is an easy place to shop! The produce department has a very nice selection of fruits and vegetables. They always look fresh! The deli has a very good selection of meats and cheeses and the deli staff is always more than willing to give you a taste of something. A very nice selection of beer and wine is also available here. All departments are more than adequate for providing items one would be looking for. The store also has a pharmacy which comes in handy if you need a flu shot or other various vaccinations. So nice to not have to make a dr appointment or go to a walk in clinic for this service. The parking lot can be very busy during tourist seasons in this area and holidays, but it is more than big enough to accommodate its many shoppers. read more

Very disappointed this morning in the selection of quite a few items most notably the fruits and vegetables two packages of strawberries one type of blueberry and one size had to ask for a few items for them to go get them because nothing was stocked I shop here every Sunday morning in have never had a problem until today I ended up having to go to Shaws across the street to get a few items read more

This new store is so much fun to shop in. I find myself looking for excuses to visit Hannaford now. Probably my favorite addition to this new store is their having a full-time Sushi Chef who caters to our tastebuds. What an inviting selection there is in that case. I have not had to wait at any time to check out for more than a minute, even when the initial line appears long. It moves so quickly with the new method. The meat department - everywhere else the meat selection is practically the whole length of the back wall, isn't it? This store designed it so it is in somewhat of a horseshoe shape so you don't have to end up doing a marathon back and forth looking for your selection. It is about half the length of before, and contained in a smaller area. And "outside the box" thinking. In the back of the store by the meat and dairy departments is a row of small shopping carts. How ingenious is that? How many times have we gone shopping for one or two small items, ended up at the back of the store with our arms full and had to traipse back up to the front to fetch a cart and bring it to the back of the store to continue shopping? And no, their prices are not bargain-basement range, But their selection is better than any other store I have visited, with plenty of organic and health-food categories. Plenty of specialty items, and I trust that their foods are the freshest around. read more

Since the new Hannaford opened in Gilford NH, which is over a year ago now they still haven't got their act together and don't think they ever will. The only smart thing they've done is remove the ridiculous line which directed you to a register. Like people aren't intelligent to find their own way. That person used to direct you could be a lot more effective in the isles helping people. From day one when opened, especially opening weekend, NOT ONE ASSOCIATE AVAILABLE ANYWHERE TO HELP PEOPLE. And that hasn't changed. When you do find someone, their usually up around the service desk, and twice it's happened to me where that person didn't know and had to ask the one standing next to them who didn't know either. My opinion, Hannaford needs to sends their associates to Market Basket for training. You never, never, have to look for an associate when shopping there, and there is no hesitation when asking where to find a product. It's amazing!!!! read more

Everything in the new store has gone up in price by quite a bit. It feels like shopping in a big convenience store. They are gouging the people who shop there year round and it will only get worse as tourist season approaches. I don't like all the little alley ways and the blockade at the end of the aisles. They need some competition, but they don't have any, Shaws is no better. read more

Hannaford supermarket in Gilford recently moved down the street ( across from Shaws). I have to say , after being a loyal Hannaford shopper for 15 years I have gone back to Shaws. Why..the reasons are easy and many. First, the store is smaller now than the other and they obviously cannot carry all the merchandise they did previously, many items that I bought and because of the size change the entire store as been affected. The aisles are narrow and one cannot have 2 carts ( in diff directions) in the aisle at the same time without one waiting for the other to pass, ridiclulous. Also, the produce section has no rhyme or reason to the layout. People are constantly crashing into one another, as well, the tomatoes for example can be found in 4 different areas ( rather than all together as we would expect) , after shopping at other stores produce centers one feels a clear lack of planning in this design..really does not work. Then there is the much smaller meat. bakery and fish center....1/3 the size of the other store with half the offerings. The meat department ( packaged meats) also smaller is located in the middle of the store back with odd placement within the layout and is always jammed with carts because noone knows which way to go. Most often people leave their carts elsewhere and get their meat and bring it back in their arms to the cart because it is easier. The final change which I hear complaints about all the time is the new check out system, where you wait in a very LONG line only to have an employee show you which line you need to go to, as if you are not capable oneself of choosing the shorter next available register. So no more do you just go to the register of your choice instead you wait in a line that often snakes thru the entire left side of the store...and to boot they have removed all magazines from that area so if you want to peruse a magazine and buy it while waiting to checkout..no longer. I imagine the magazine companies cannot be happy with this set up because I am sure their sales have gone to almost zero here. So while some believe the prices are better ( I would beg to differ, esp if you have a SHAWS card or shop at Market Basket) what I will say is the aggravation is NOT worth it. It is a porrly designed, executed, and staffed store and so while I have always been a loyal patron..no more. read more

This new store is horrible. Not nearly enough space for the product and the shoppers. You have to wait until the isle is clear of people, mind you this is not summer yet. What was wrong with the old store? Was corporate not squeezing enough money out of it? The lay out makes it so congested. The products are hard to find. The employees do not smile and seem unhappy. Hannaford has lost my business and I have heard of many other unhappy customers that now shop elsewhere. They should start thinking of the customers and put out a survey asking how and what their customers and employees feel about this store. I feel they will loose a lot of people shopping in that store until it is made more user friendly and spacious. The new check out system is horrible as well. They probably paid some research firm big bucks to tell them to make all these changes what a mistake. They should have left things alone with layout and space between isles. What happened to the smiles and happiness of the employees? I think corporate is trying to squeeze too much from the customers, employees and facility. They have lost my dime.
