I rarely leave negative reviews, but after my experience with Hanover Lube & Brake under its new management, I feel obligated to warn others.On July 17, 2026, I received an estimate of approximately $2,600 to get my 2015 Ford Explorer through inspection. I specifically told Scott that I only wanted to perform the repairs that were absolutely necessary. When he said the vehicle needed mufflers, I told him I would rather replace them myself because I wanted something nicer than inexpensive aftermarket mufflers.Over the course of several conversations, my wife and I repeatedly asked Scott what type of mufflers would be installed. We didn't ask once--we asked multiple times because this was important to us. My wife even specifically asked if they would be Ford OEM mufflers. Based on those conversations, we came away with the clear understanding that Ford OEM mufflers would be installed. That understanding is the reason I authorized Hanover Lube & Brake to perform the work instead of purchasing and installing the mufflers myself.When I picked up the vehicle on July 21, I had an unpleasant interaction with the new manager, Mike. Because the shop was already closed, I was told I had to sign the invoice before I could receive my keys, so I wasn't able to thoroughly inspect the vehicle until after I left.When I stopped for gas, I immediately noticed that inexpensive aftermarket mufflers had been installed instead. One of the pipes was dented, and the mufflers already had surface rust. That was the exact situation I had tried to avoid from the beginning.I texted the shop that evening to express my concerns. The following morning, Mike told me they had installed "OEM fitment" parts. That was the first time anyone had used the phrase "OEM fitment." It was not the understanding my wife and I believed we had after our conversations with Scott regarding Ford OEM mufflers.After I had time to cool down, I tried to reach a reasonable compromise. I asked if they would provide and install a pair of exhaust tips so the aftermarket mufflers would at least have a more factory appearance. Instead, I was told that if I purchased the tips myself, they would install them. I wasn't looking for an expensive repair or anything extravagant--I was simply hoping they would make some effort to address a situation that I believe resulted from the misrepresentations made during the estimate process.What disappoints me most isn't simply that aftermarket mufflers were installed. It's that I made my decision based on what my wife and I understood after repeatedly asking what parts would be used. Had I known aftermarket mufflers were going to be installed, I would have purchased and installed the mufflers I wanted myself. Between the communication surrounding the repair, the customer service I experienced afterward, and the unwillingness to offer a meaningful resolution, I cannot recommend Hanover Lube & Brake. If you choose to do business here, get every promise about parts in writing, ask for the manufacturer and part numbers on your estimate before authorizing repairs, and inspect the work carefully before leaving the shop. The really funny part is, that after I tried so hard to work with the shop, they said I was just looking for something for free. Go figure. At least they stayed in character. My car needed the annual PA state inspection. Since Hanover Lube is 5 minutes from where I live, I called them for an appointment. I was given the choice to wait or leave the car - since I didn't have much to do, I decided to wait for it. I arrived at the designated time and in 45 minutes I was on my way home. In times past, at other shops, I was required to leave my car all day. This was way easier! read more

I had an oil leak that another shop diagnosed as a Rear Main Seal leak and quoted over $1,000 + if the exhaust had to come off. I called HL&B who got me in the next day. Told me an oil filter block was cracked and could do the job for well under the first quote. After I got the car back a noticed what I thought was another leak but bigger, called HL&B back on a Monday and put me right in on Tuesday morning. Technician pressure washed the underside ran it idle for 30 minutes no leak. Connie apologized over and over for my troubles, it was just residual oil in the cross member. She said let them know if I had anymore problems and they would make it right. Where can you find that type of service, commitment or caring to make a situation right? Nowhere but HL&B. I've already told everyone in my office and a lot of people on the shop floor about HL&B, I'm sold! read more

This place is a disaster waiting to happen. Lousy unprofessional service. You will find the reason they can do the service "in 10 minutes or less", is bc they don't fill the things they say they fill. They don't put the screws and bolts back into the skid plate. After leaving there, the bottom fell half off my car and was dragged. It was making an awful sound, so I called a tow company to take it to where I brought it to get fixed. They asked me if I had just had my oil changed & I said yes, they told me the bottom was not put back in correctly. When I called Costa's the owner said "yes we have your bolts, we saw that after you left". But they never called me to tell me that, & they had all my information.They are refusing to cover the damages and towing fees. I highly recommend you do not use this company! Then I find out from others, this happens all the time with them! They should be out of business! read more

Well, moved here from Maryland and needed my car inspected and emissions done for the first time in pa, had went into several places around town but was a little leery. Walked into Hanover Lube and Brake and was very comforted by the ladies working the counter so to speak, said the job would not take long and that if I'd like I could use one of their "Courtesy cars" until my car was done??? My farther owned a towing and repair company in Maryland when I was growing up and he treated his customers with the same kinda of respect and appreciation that these folks do, ya just don't see that kinda stuff in the repair business anymore. It was very refreshing and took me back to a different time of the world. Sorry for the long review but these folks deserve to be recognized for their fine work. read more

Having moved to PA this past summer, we knew we needed to find a dependable mechanic who wasn't looking to up-sell just because they could. After getting two estimates just because we were new and wanted to see the difference our choice became obvious. Hanover Lube & Brake is an excellent service center, they talk to you like your a human being and don't try to talk down to you. After my go to guys closed up shop on York Street, I stopped in and made an appointment for a $29.99 oil change for the next day. Tammy, Connie, and Dean were friendly, knowledgeable, and it was obvious that they know and love their business. Long story short, Tammy informed me my inspection was 2 months over due but they could take care of it should I want to. I had planned to wait for my oil change was being done but didn't really plan on waiting for an inspection that included new rotors and pads. That's when I was offered a courtesy car so I could go about my business. 2 hours and $450 later, my car was again legal and road worthy. I think I've discovered a new garage. Make sure to avoid this place if you value your safety. My daughter had her brakes serviced on a Friday, and her brakes failed on the following Monday going up an exit ramp on Rt 15. If she hadn't been aware enough of the situation and pulled the emergency brake, God only knows what would have happened. The shop was very nice, apologized, and admitted the mistake. They refunded the amount they charged for labor, which in this case should have been called carelessness. But how much, exactly, would that apology have been worth if my daughter had been killed or injured? How much would your "labor" have been worth then, Hanover Lube and Brake Center? If you call yourself a brake center, you'd better make sure your work is carefully completed. This time, everyone was lucky. Brakes and luck shouldn't go together. read more

Do NOT under any circumstances go here... Seriously... I took my 2005 Saturn Vue there (I bought it at Deans which is another place you should never go) to have them look at the transmission because it wasn't shifting correctly. I also asked them to change my oil and filter. They had the car for 4 days, on the 2nd day I called they hadn't even changed the oil yet. On the 3rd day they said that the transmission wasn't able to be fixed. When I went to pick it up, they charged me $100 for an oil change and to look at the transmission. Funny thing about the transmission on a Vue is that it doesn't even have a dipstick to check the level of the fluid, so all they did was look in a book (I checked with Midas out of York and that year Saturn was known for bad tranny's they even had a recall on it back in 2008, but when I bought it from Dean's in 2012, they didn't even tell me about it, the recall ended in 2013) So, they knew it was a bad tranny and still went and charged me for an oil change even knowing that the car would never be able to be driven over 15 mph... DO NOT TRUST THEM.... read more
