Pius tailored a skirt suit and an additional jacket for me in less that 48 hours. He did a great job. The suit needed LOTS of work done- skirt shortened, taken in, buttons moved, sleeves fixed. I searched reddit and yelp and both sources led me to Pius at Hanshaw and couldn't be happier. I purchased a suit and the shipping was delayed which left me 48 hours to get the jacket tailored and have pants hemmed. I called the shop and asked if 48 hours was possible and Pius replied with a firm no problem. I was at the shop that Tuesday evening at 5pm and received a phone call at 5pm Wednesday saying it was ready. Amazingly fast turnaround and my suit fits like a dream. Its fine but way over priced. I was quoted $100 for an easy hem on a dress - single layer and not lined. I was like no thanks thats more than this dress is worth. Pius then said he would give me a deal and make it $80. I said still not worth it. I left and went downtown to another tailor (which I expected to be a little pricey because of the cost of property downtown) and I was told it would be $35. Tell me how Pius came up with $100? I have no idea. I see tons of great reviews but when you read through the not so great ones you see the price gouging over and over again. Try somewhere else. bet you can get the same quality work for much cheaper. read more

Mr. Hanshaw was very nice & sized my suits up very perfectly. I had to walk out upon learning the price of tailoring each suit though:/ $110 to take in the jacket, $45 to adjust the sleeves, & $45 for the pants. As stereotypical Minnesotans would say: OOFTA! I feel like a cheapass here, & maybe I'm in the wrong, but I only wear suits bc the hotel I work in forces me to, & $200/suit is more than i payed for the damn fancy menswear to begin with. It's too bad bc I really don't want to go back to Eve Cleaners buuuut I suppose beggars have to look a little less handsome than everyone else:'( One day I'll buy suits off the not-clearance rack & not flinch at $400 to tailor. read more

Guy did a nice job. The place is disorganized and not the cleanest so I was a little nervous but Pius did what I asked, on time, and at a cost of $25 per alteration. The alterations weren't too involved so $25/pc was probably a little high, but the clothes were pricey to begin with, so worth it in my opinion. read more

If you are in need of a good tailor LOOK NO FURTHER!!! Pius is the real deal. I've had my dress pants tailored by the best of the best in Beverly Hills and I am so happy to have found that level of skill here in Chicago. I brought in an existing pair of pants for visual reference and Pius didn't even need me to try them on. He simply took the measurements of the pants and that was all he needed to work on the be pants. I knew at that moment I found the real deal. He took in the waist, seat (butt area), narrowed the leg and shortened the in-seam. All extremely difficult work! I just picked up my pants and they fit exactly like my others. Pius does high very quality work and I was very happy with the results. They were completed within a week, as promised. I had two sport coats and a pair of pants altered. They fit beautifully and the stitching was clean and precise. It is a pure alterations shop (not a side biz at a dry cleaner). It is expensive, but worth it if you want the job done well. Bring cash. He asked that I pay a deposit when dropping off the items, but there appeared to be some leeway on that. It is a one-man shop and quality tailoring takes time. If you can, I would try to go on a weekday. read more

I had ordered 7 dress shirts (Size M) online. Usually when I order shirts they don't fit well, either the arms are too big, or the back looks puffed out when tucked in. I was happy to see this location was close to where I live. Pius is the owner here. As I walked in he had a few customers waiting for alterations or pickups. He was very kind and tried to attend to others in between alterations. Pius ended up taking in the arms, sides and the back of all 7 shirts. I was surprised to find out how dress shirts should fit this entire time lol. Pius offered me a great price (lower then 3 other tailors in the area) and even offered to finish the shirts sooner than I needed them! I picked up my shirts a few days later tried them on. I noticed that 2 of the shirts were a bit large in the back, which was my fault since I told Pius not to worry about the lower back on a few shirts. He went ahead and re-altered them on the spot. Worked with Pius on some tuxedo pants that needed brought in. Quality of his work is great and only cost $25. My only reason for given 4 instead of 5 stars is because he couldn't find my pants when I came to pick them up. He said he would look for them and give me a call back... I got a call back 2 hours later saying he found them. A little annoying because the problem would not have existed if he was a bit more organized. I will return in the future, but I will call in advance to make sure he has located my items before wasting the time heading over. Also please note that they only accept cash! read more

I had a jacket tailored to be taken in and a couple pairs of pants re-hemmed from Hanshaw. The pants were hemmed perfectly and the jacket fit like a glove when I got it back! The only reason for a 4-star rating instead of 5 is just the initial sticker shock I had for the jacket. ($110, which several friends told me they thought was high also) But, the craftsmanship is top notch, so it was definitely worth it still! Oh, and this is a big one - CASH ONLY!!! read more

I tried this place because the reviews were so amazing on Yelp. I hate leaving bad reviews but my experience was very different from most reviewers so I thought I should share it. My experience started awkward - when I walked in the proprietor was standing at the front of the counter with his back facing the door so I initially thought he was another customer. I needed to get a dress shirt taken in & the sleeves shortened. The price was $60 which seemed really high to me but I went with it. He asked that I write a review on Yelp as a "favor" at the end of our first interaction. He offered to have the shirt ready in a week (the next Tuesday) but I said it would actually be easier to pick it up in a week and a half (the next Saturday). When I came to pick it up the morning of the day we agreed upon he said it wasn't ready yet and would be ready closer to close at 8pm that night. I was really upset having trekked over only to be told it wasn't ready especially given I had given him extra time with it. After some back and forth when he suggested coming back on Monday he said he could have it ready in a few hours and did call me to let me know when it would be ready. When I picked it up there were ink stains on the front torso from where he had marked it to take in. I suppose that would be considered "my fault" for rushing the process but the whole experience was awkward and not at all what I expected based on the reviews. In comparison I took a suit to another cleaner/tailor in the same area and they shortened the suit sleeves, hemmed the pants, slimmed the pants legs, and fixed a tear in a waistcoat for $60 total. And there was not a difference in turnover time or skill. read more

I flew in Saturday morning and brought 4 pants and two jackets(grandpa and uncle) to be altered before our flight to Houston on SUNDAY MORNING...PIUS KNOCKED IT ALL OUT OF THE PARK ON THE SAME DAY! I went to this tailor based on all the positive yelp reviews. It was a huge mistake. Pius the tailor seems experienced and sure. I brought in a suit that I had purchased large, with the explicit intention of getting it fitted to my shape. I told him to tailor the full suit, and he assured me that "you'll look like a million dollars!" He pinned up the jacket and the pants and told me it would be ready in a week, and charged me $173. This being my first trip to a tailor for this purpose, I had no idea that he was ripping me off hugely. When picking up the suit, I put it on without much inspection. I asked Pius how it looked, and he said "you look like a million dollars!" When I got home, I put it on again and inspected it more closely-it was still big! It appeared as if he didn't even do any work at all on the jacket, and the pant legs were still way too large. He basically charged me nearly $200 to hem the pants. When I took the suit back and complained, Pius was unapologetic. He wordlessly pinned up the jacket again and when I told him about the width of the pants said "I thought you only wanted the pants shorter." On top of all that, he charged me another $80 just to take the pants in. I just picked up the suit again, and it finally looks as it should. Except that the sleeves on the jacket are way too baggy. I'm not going back to complain yet again, and it'll be a cold day in hell when I set foot back in that shop. Pius, my left foot! And your obvious toupee looks like someone ran over a badger with a pasta machine. Enter at your own risk. read more
