My therapist is fantastic. Unfortunately, the company employees underhanded practices to extract money from clients.

The individual therapists and psychiatrists are great. They have a lot of providers with various expertise so was able to find someone with experience in exactly the issues I was working on. As others have said, the admin and customer support is ATROCIOUS. I have been trying to add a new payment method in my account. The card is under my husbands name so we needed to fill out a form approving the card use since it's different prom the patient name. No problem, makes sense. Every form customer service has sent has not been accessible via the Docusign. They have sent 3 different forms and none of them have worked. I have asked if it's possible to just scan and sign a pdf but no response to that. I started this request back the week of Feb 20 and it is still not resolved. I feel it's such a simple request that should not take this long. Literally just trying to sign a form. I followed up multiple times with customer service representative Maegan and she has stopped replying to my emails. I use the online "contact us" platform and nobody responds. Their customer service phone number is just an auto recording saying to contact support via the website and then hangs up. So for 3 weeks now a card I don't want to be charged keeps getting charged. This is causing unnecessary financial distress for me and my husband. I am unfortunately likely going to have to seek care elsewhere which I did not want to do as I LOVE my therapist but the lack of customer support at this point for such a simple request is frankly absurd. EDIT: after 2 yelp reviews, emailing about 15 times myself and asking my therapist to forward my concerns to anyone that will listen, a poor outsourced customer service rep finally called me and was able to help after 45 min despite the language barriers. For two weeks I've been trying to reach anyone at Happier Living after missing an appointment due to a last-minute hospital emergency. I was charged $485 - and the charge went through instantly, effortlessly, like they were standing by waiting. But when it comes to responding to emails, reviewing documentation, or letting a patient speak to a real person? Nothing. Complete radio silence. Their "customer service" number (888-684-2779) is basically a trap: an automated loop with no option to reach a human being. No representative. No call back. They told me to return to work immediately; no treatment plan, no diagnosis, no coping strategies, no referrals. I had my first appointment yesterday with a nurse practitioner, and unfortunately it was one of the most frustrating medical appointments I have experienced. I am intentionally not naming any individual provider because this review reflects only my personal experience. At the beginning of the appointment, the provider introduced herself as "Doctor" and later clarified that she held a DNP degree. This concerned me because my understanding is that California and many states have specific requirements regarding how non-physician providers represent their credentials to patients. I encourage prospective patients to familiarize themselves with those requirements and make their own assessment. The appointment itself moved very slowly, with much of the visit spent completing surveys and reviewing information. By the time treatment options were discussed, there was very little time remaining for meaningful clinical decision-making. What concerned me most was the treatment discussion. I have a longstanding history of this condition and have previously undergone treatment with the standard first-line medication class, which was effective. Despite this, the provider initially focused on reducing my caffeine intake, even after I explained that my symptoms have persisted during periods both with and without caffeine use. The provider ultimately recommended several medications that, to my understanding, are not generally considered first-line treatments for my condition, despite my history of responding well to first-line therapy. As someone with medical training, I found this recommendation difficult to understand and inconsistent with what I would expect based on current psychiatric practice and my documented treatment history. I was also told that appointments every two weeks to one month would be the long-term expectation. My understanding is that frequent follow-up is appropriate during medication initiation and dose adjustments, but that visit frequency is often reduced once a patient is stable. Additional aspects of the experience that concerned me included automatic scheduling of future appointments, difficulty reaching a live person by phone, and what felt to me like a strong emphasis on frequent follow-up visits. To be fair, this review reflects a single encounter with a single practitioner, and other patients may have very different experiences. However, taken together, the credential presentation, treatment discussion, communication challenges, and scheduling practices left me uncomfortable and unwilling to continue care through this service. I attempted to cancel my appointment BEFORE the scheduled time and still got hit with a late cancellation fee with zero real effort to work with me as a client. Instead of showing professionalism, empathy, or flexibility, they hid behind policy wording and timestamps to justify charging the fee anyway. The response I received felt cold, scripted, and completely transactional -- especially disappointing for a company that operates in the mental health space. You would expect a company centered around wellness and support to treat people like human beings instead of just another charge on an account. What makes this worse is that I communicated proactively and respectfully, yet the company still chose revenue over customer care. I have been with Happier Living for quite awhile now and I love my psychiatrist, but unfortunately I need to move on because they have charged me $500 without my consent for a cancellation that I never canceled. Horrible customer service, you cannot speak to anyone and you need to constantly keep writing them to receive a response. They are greedy and only care about the money and not the client. Happier Living charged us $95 for a counseling appointment on 3/27/2026 that we never scheduled. We called their customer support number (identifed on caller ID as "Ms Jaime Loebner") but was always directed to a recording with no ability to reach a live rep. After reaching out via email, Hardloop, their practice management company, responded to our inquiry several days later but did not address the unauthorized charge. Instead, they said we needed to update our inactive insurance policy, which is a complete lie and entirely unrelated to this matter. $500 for a missed appointment really is bad business. Even with all the effort I put in to be available I missed an appointment due to my mother in law falling and needing to go to the hospital. This charge happened right before a work trip. I escalated the issue with their team and because it's not my hospital visit and I can't prove it, they essentially can't help me. I should've known better and it's my fault for having gone with this company in the first place. Therefore, I'm copying and pasting my previous review, similar to how "Avery M., Business Owner" seems to be copy/pasting the same generic, non-reply to Happier Living's many unsatisfied clients here. Soon after becoming a patient, I discovered that Happier Living participates in an insurance scam commonly known as Balance Billing. I was being over-billed and billed multiple times for the same service. Contacting anyone in the office to dispute the charges proved impossible, but the office did seem to be staffed well enough to send out a collections agency. Once the agency became aware of the scam as well, they were met with the same runaround trying to contact the office and close the case. The whole mess damaged my credit score well after it finally was resolved. In short, I am experiencing much Happier Living now that these frauds are in the rearview. read more

I missed it because a work emergency came up and got charged with a $70 late fee. I decided I would take the loss because it wasn't worth fighting it. 7/14 I get an email that I missed my appointment on 7/3 and I will be getting charged $500. I quickly emailed back in panic with screenshots of my bill to say it's a mistake. No response. I called multiple times. No response. I cancel all my future appointments. I had one for the next and it got cancelled together with the reoccurring appointments. Because of their late cancellation policy I emailed the clinician to let her know even thought the appointment was cancelled, I WILL be showing up to the appointment so I do not get charged ANOTHER no show fee. No response. I emailed again to Happier Living. No response. I called. No response. 7/15 I show up to my appointment 5 mins early. 5 mins in, I email the clinician AGAIN and tell her I'm waiting in the waiting room. No response. I wait 30 mins and no one comes so I leave the zoom. I email Happier Living to confirm I WILL NOT be changed for this appointment. No response. At the end of the day, I get an email that $500 will be charged to my account on Sunday. 7/16 Happier Living said I can provide documentation and screenshots to prove I was at the appointment. The first appointment I did not take any screenshots because why would I? I sent them my bill as proof that I showed up to the appointment. No response. Separately, I sent documentation on the cancellation on 7/15. Again no response. I locked my cards and reported it as fraud to my bank because that the best I could do for now. I emailed to revoke my mutual arbitration agreement to give myself the option to take legal action. I was charged $1100 and was seen ONCE. I'm angry at myself for trusting my insurance's referral and not looking up this company before booking with them. Never making that same mistake twice. I want to be very specific about my experience so anyone considering HappierLiving can make an informed decision. I booked a psychiatric medication management appointment through Zocdoc. In my booking note -- which the NP confirmed she read -- I clearly stated three things: I needed Wellbutrin XL 300mg, Buspar, and doxepin 6mg for sleep maintenance insomnia. My Vyvanse was managed by a separate provider. My main goal was getting medication management set up and my sleep issue addressed. Every medication I requested is non-controlled. All were within the NP's prescribing authority. This should have been a straightforward visit. Instead, I paid $320 for a lengthy intake assessment -- on top of intake paperwork I had already completed before the appointment, much of which covered the same questions I had already answered. My sleep issues were briefly touched on as part of standard intake questioning, but the NP never addressed my doxepin request, never offered any recommendations for my sleep -- not even basic OTC suggestions -- and never offered to prescribe any of the medications listed in my note. The sleep issue I came in for was treated as a checkbox on an intake form, not a clinical concern to be solved. At the very end of the session, she informed me that she couldn't manage my Vyvanse -- something I never asked her to do -- and suggested I be reassigned to a DEA-credentialed provider. She said this would take just 1-2 days. Her communication style made it clear she was not going to prescribe anything that day regardless of my needs. Having already spent an hour answering questions and $320, I agreed to the reassignment. Here is what concerns me most: they read my note before the appointment. They knew exactly what I needed. If their policy requires a DEA-credentialed provider for any patient who happens to take a controlled substance elsewhere -- even when the patient explicitly is not asking for controlled substance management -- they had every opportunity to tell me this before the session. They could have messaged me, cancelled the appointment, and rebooked me with the correct provider at no charge. Instead, they conducted a full billable intake knowing it would end in a redirect to another provider. The intake could have been done once, by the right provider, in a single appointment. Shortly after the appointment, after I emailed the NP directly asking for help, she offered to prescribe Wellbutrin at 150mg -- not the 300mg I requested and have a documented history with -- and a Buspar refill I had a 90-day supply of and didn't need. The doxepin, which was my primary reason for booking, was dismissed in one sentence as a 'stronger antidepressant.' At the FDA-approved 6mg sleep dose, doxepin is a selective antihistamine with a safety profile comparable to placebo. This is basic prescribing knowledge for a psychiatric provider. I am dealing with sleep maintenance insomnia that is significantly affecting my daily functioning and work performance. I came to this practice looking for prompt, competent medication management. What I received was a $320 intake that produced nothing, a vague promise of reassignment that has been slow to materialize, and an NP who appeared unwilling to help from the start. Additional concerns: when you call their phone number, a recording informs you that they have removed their phone line and moved to email-only support for "better care." All communication is email only with slow response times. There is no way to resolve issues in real time, which is a convenient setup for a practice that collects $320 before you discover they can't help you. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this practice to confirm before your appointment -- in writing -- that the provider you are seeing will actually prescribe your medications during the session. Otherwise you may find yourself in my position: $320 lighter, no prescriptions, and still searching for care. read more

I am extremely disappointed with fraudulent clinic. They charged me $300 for an online appointment I never scheduled or attended, even though the stated penalty for a missed appointment is $250. This is both abusive and improper. The clinic's website repeatedly schedules appointments without my consent, and I have had to contact them multiple times to correct similar issues. I also opened a dispute with my bank regarding this charge. As a patient, I expect transparency, fairness, and proper communication. Unfortunately, this clinic failed on all counts. I missed an appointment due to a medical issue and was penalized despite providing the requested formal note from my surgical care team requesting that the absence be excused. Not only did they charge me anyway, but they failed to acknowledge the note or communicate their intent to do so. As someone already diagnosed with conditions that make it difficult to maintain executive function and scheduling, I was shocked by the lack of understanding or flexibility. The medication I was prescribed as part of my recovery further complicated things, but instead of responding with compassion, they doubled down with punitive policy enforcement. Being that they still charged me in spite of my having given the note that they requested,​ it would seem that they are either horribly negligent and unprofessional, or that they want more detailed information than they have any right to request/ HIPAA allows them to ask. The latter would be a gross violation of privacy and, in either case, they demonstrate a despicable misuse and abuse of the power dynamic inherent in mental healthcare. This experience made it crystal clear that this practice prioritizes profit over patient well-being. If you're seeking help from professionals who understand and respect the real-life effects of mental and physical health challenges, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. This company is primarily a cash grab and does not remotely care about patient health or well-being. Tl;Dr: If you have zero mental health issues, physical health issues, money to burn, and a masochistic desire to be kicked when you're down, then and only then​​​​should you book with this company. First I want to say that the therapist was great, but Happy Living has the worst billing service I have ever encountered. They over bill and I had to complain to my insurance about them. I reported them to the BBB and they charged me more than the allowable rate by my insurance and stated that since i had signed the document stating their rates that that I owed them. Complained to insurance and had an investigation opened and sure enough legally they could not do that. They gate keep you and don't allow you to speak with the happierliving people and act like they are Happier living, but your dealing with the billing agency they use. I got tired of their billing practices so I found another company there are plenty out there they are not the only game in town. Do yourself a favor save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. If you miss an appt or are 15 minutes late they will charge $500.00. You are responsible not the insurance, For a longer appt they should give the 25 minutes they owe you, but they don't and this makes no sense since you can schedule a 20 minute appt. There is zero happy in dealing with this ill-named organization, and I wish I could give them zero stars. Worst experience our family has ever had with a healthcare practice. These people are actual crooks. They'll claim to work with your insurance company, even providing confirmation your therapist is in-network, and agreeing on the dollar amount for your co-pay. Then, they'll refuse to properly bill your insurance provider (in our case, Blue Cross Blue Shield), refuse to respond to your inquiries, AND refuse to respond to inquiries from your insurance provider! Meanwhile, you will be stuck in the middle, dealing with your insurance company to repeatedly submit claims, which will eventually become appeals that are denied, repeat. And during this miserable and futile process, Happier (oh the irony!) Living / Cucumber Wellness / Hard Loop- they go by ALL these names- will charge your CC on file $500 at a time without your authorization. Attempts to reverse the charges via your bank will fail. However, you can count on one thing from Happier Living... They'll send you to collections! Sounds super good for your mental health, right? And in case you are wondering, I will stress, we are well-insured. Yet BCBS has been unable to do a thing for us, as this company is impossible even for them to deal with. To be honest, I am at a loss for words, but I am still trying to somehow put this into writing. A company like this should actually be banned, especially because it deals with people's mental health. Missing an appointment, forgetting it, or being sick - yes, that can happen to anyone. That is human, and an institution like this in particular should be able to understand that. Especially because people come here to find support, because they may have financial problems that are, among other things, burdens or can lead to certain psychological illnesses. Happier Living billing dept charged over $3,200 on my credit card out of nowhere with no notice and zero explanation. Impossible to locate a human being to discuss the matter after multiple tries, and all Happier Living portal communication goes unanswered. Thankfully my credit card company refunded my money and opened a case against Happier Living. I understand that portals vs human contact are preferred by large businesses, but I think it only works when the communication is a 2-way street. This clown car of a business seems to be run by half witted junior high kids. 100% avoid at all costs. Do NOT use them. While there are good therapists, the practice is shady and unreachable. Many times I've been charged for appts claiming I didn't have coverage when I did, they do not take the time to validate your insurance or call your carrier and do not resolve errors on billing. I'm sucking up an erroneous $225 charge, cancelling my next appt and finding someone else. They will also charge you $500 if you don't show to appts or cancel without 24 hrs notice and keep that money, it doesn't even go to your therapist! read more

It's negative stars for me. It's a complete scam. They "survey" you in the beginning to see what your needs are. I DID NOT say "I'm looking for someone to prescribe medication" and instead had selected "I'm looking for a new therapist." Then they decided to match me with a medical professional which costs $375 more. I unfortunately had booked an appointment with who they suggested based on this survey (a nurse practitioner) the next day because I really wanted to see a therapist and I didn't realize the difference in charges. I just wanted to talk to a therapist! Mind you this service was the only mental health service within network found on my insurance website, and it somehow still isn't covered very much. By the time I realized what a scam this whole company is, it was too late to cancel due to the ridiculous cancellation fee of $500. I was trapped so I had to go through with the appointment. As a licensed clinician myself who really just needed a provider for occasional check ins, this service is not at all one I recommend. Initially it took several weeks of miscommunications and mishaps to get an appointment with a provider. I was also showing for appointments, waiting for 20+ moments, just to receive an email that there had been a mistake and asking me to reschedule. When I finally did the provider was good, but then left the practice and I never received any communication about this from the provider, which I would argue borders on patient abandonment. I started with an alternative provider and noticed early on that an appt scheduled was not what we had discussed, but I realized it early and simply cancelled a rescheduled. However, this provider then again scheduled me for a wrong date/time and the company not only charged me a "copay," but also a no show fee (which they emailed me at 10 PM stating they were "discounting" it to $230). Charged to my card, no live humans to talk to with their business. When I disputed this the agency then told me my "personal receipts" of my schedule were not enough, and it took a fair amount of time and me looping in the provider to have him clarify again that he made the appt in error, and I was not at fault. Due to the incorrect charges and difficulty with resolving this, I submitted asking to speak to a live team member or to have my account discontinued. No response, simply deactivated my account with no continuity of care efforts and the provider emailing me to take care. This is not an organized nor ethical practice and I would not recommend getting mental health support via this platform. Side note: Their billing is done by a third party, "hard loop," which is another component that lacks communication and professionalism. All in all, save yourself the headache. I have been trying to talk to an actual person for over a week. Charged my account 500$ when I had insurance because they never checked my insurance. When emailed their response is we need time to check insurance. That was over a week ago and every day they respond the same thing. I had to cancel 4 important medical appointments because of their lack of communication, time, and billing. Yet I have not received my money back regardless of how many times I have asked (10). After needing to reschedule one session due to illness (with ~ 22 hours advance notice and a doctor's letter/employers letter), I was slapped with a $500 charge. I contacted them immediately, provided medical documentation, and asked how to resolve the issue. The representative just said they wouldn't accept my documentation and when I asked what documentation they needed, I was simply ignored and sent a bill. They immediately charge credit card without letting me know why? I have 2 insurance companies and they can't confirm? Also the virtual dr I had been seeing did not take my mental health any thought. I had been seeing him for about 6 months. The last time I told him I had depression and anxiety and needed to continue my anxiety meds. I had been having anxiety and cry spurts. Not normal. He had decreased dosage and I was fine with that. However the last time I ran out. I told him I have had a lot going on in my life. With OCD, family stuff. He responded by telling me. Providing an update for fairness to Happier Living. They did spend time explaining the issue, which had more to do with my insurance coverage than Happier Living. They also made an exception to their 24 hour notice period for billing, based on the timing of our discussion, which was on them. To be clear, I was not charged. The providers have been great so far but the company itself leaves a lot to be desired. Incorrect billing and scheduling, both on multiple occasions. They also matched me with a provider that they couldn't bill my insurance for and sessions were immediately cancelled with little notice a few months into working with that provider. They can't seem to get their online scheduling system to give me a consistent weekly appointment with my provider despite several requests over the past month. Update with their response on 6/17 "Additionally, the system may incorrectly identify an opening as available "weekly" if enough appointments are open, even though another client may be scheduled into some of those slots (on a biweekly or monthly basis). I'm well aware that these are serious flaws in the system, and the appropriate team is working on developing solutions" read more

See how on each negative review, the company rep is just copy/pasting the same response to everyone? They literally couldn't care less. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE! There's absolutely no way to talk to a representative of the company. The website says to call: when you call, it's a 30-second recorded message that tells you to go to the website and then immediately hangs up when complete. Even the Doctors themselves who are employed by Happier Living talk crap about the company. I specified I needed someone to write prescriptions when signing up: the Doctor I was paired with was given to me by Happier Living...he lives in TX and I live in TN. Doctor's aren't allowed to write prescriptions across states. Happier Living should know this. At best their unprofessional, at worst they're predatory. This is a horrible experience and business model. Trying to find a doctor to address mental health issues and you can't get any live human being to talk to. You are overwhelmed with an exorbitant amount of forms and a call center to discuss questions with. I would not recommend this to anyone whatsoever. My experience with happier living/hardloop has been absolutely atrocious. The providers themselves are wonderful, it has nothing to do with them, only the company Happier Living/ Hardloop. They have been irresponsibly billing my insurance for amounts way higher than stated on their website for visits. They state that follow up visits are $250.. yet they have been submitting claims to my insurance for $475 per follow-up visit. I have every EOB from my insurance provider to prove these claims are factual. In addition, they have also been incorrectly submitting codes to my insurance for these visits as if they were office visits when they needed to be specifically coded for telehealth visits, as telehealth is the only form of visits they provide. I have specified to them multiple times via email (I have every email with happier living/hardloop for proof) and they have assured me they are doing it correctly (Which they were not actually doing). Upon reading the hundreds and hundreds of complaints against the company, I have come to the conclusion that this is being done with clear intent and malice on their end. Additionally, they have also charged my credit card multiple times for visits that I had already paid for ($241.41 x2) and have the receipts to show that these specific dates of services have been paid in full, for the same visit. They also told me I did not pay the full amount for a visit, and I still owed an additional amount of money ($63.91) When I did in fact pay the amount that I owed from my repriced insurance amount, in full. They have also automatically charged my card for payments for visits that were as if I was paying out of pocket the full amounts ($813 taken out without notice, which is the incorrect amount owed) and disregarding my insurance claims amounts that I actually owed as repriced amounts. Which again, should be even less than what my insurance is telling me I owe, because they are submitting claims for double what they should be. Again, I have the EOBs to prove this. They do not have any phone contact with customers and They are unresponsive when emailing, and that is our only form of communication with them. If they do respond, It takes them multiple days to respond, with a different person responding to each email I do actually receive. I have never had any issues resolved, to date, for many many months now as I have been with them for a year. I am not getting any resolution on my own via email with multiple "billing managers and supervisors" so I have had my credit card company dispute my charges and Legal action is now being taken with a medical malpractice attorney. In addition a complaint with the department of mental health as well as the Better Business Bureau is being filed. It is very clear that these legal actions needed to take place being that Happier Living is continuing this fraudulent activity even after thousands of similar patient complaints. What a disgraceful company taking advantage of some of the most vulnerable individuals who are in need of mental help, it shows the character behind this company.
