-Service with a smile is what they do. I just love the mother of the owner! -Ambiance is small and cozy. The decor is simple yet modern and classy for a brunch spot. Food- I cant get enough of those boubon glazed chicken deviled eggs! I've also had the fish and Grits with Cajun cream sauce.
OMGEEEEE!!! Words cannot express how AMAZING this restaurant is! My aunt took me here for brunch to celebrate my birthday, and what an experience it was! The service was absolutely phenomenal! Our server was incredible. Although she had multiple tables to take care of, she handled everything with such ease. She was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and always on top of everything. You could truly tell that she cared about making sure we had a wonderful experience. And then... Ms. Vee sang "Happy Birthday" to me! Talk about making a birthday girl feel special! That beautiful moment was the icing on the cake. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, EVERYTHING was top-notch! If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion--or simply enjoy an amazing brunch--this is definitely the place! I left feeling full, happy, and incredibly grateful for such a beautiful birthday experience. next time I'm in Hampton Roads -I'm driving straight to Happy Cafe --10/10!!
Happy Cafe is located in the Diamond Springs Shoppes in VIrginia Beach. They are closer to the northwestern part of Virginia Beach. They aren't too far away from Northampton Blvd. Coming from I-264, you can get off at Newtown Rd. and head north to it, as the road name does change to Diamond Springs Rd. Coming in while heading northbound is easier than if you were coming in the southbound direction. One thing I noticed is that parking can get limited here when there are lots of visitors to this shopping center. My visit here was on April 17, 2026. The first thing I noticed was parking. Although this is in a shopping center, parking can be hard to find at times, especially during peak times. I was able to find one on this visit, but there wasn't much available. The Yellow signage for the name of the business on the outside helps see it pretty quickly. When my mom and I came inside, it was already busy. There was a wait to get a table, but I wasn't totally surprised at that. It would take about 15 minutes to get a table. Once we got to the table, we had a chance to look over the menu for a moment before the server came around and asked for our drink orders. Water came to the table at that time too. I decided to try their Bloody Mary for a drink and my mom did a Pepsi. The Pepsi comes in a can. I want to note that they have vegan options on their menu, so that adds to the amount of items to choose from. They have a pretty big menu covering both breakfast and lunch options. After having some time to look over the menu, we were finally ready to order. I don't do French Toast too often, so I decided to do the French Toast Meal with scrambled eggs and bacon (crispy). My mom decided to go with the Veggie Egg Scrambler, adding cheese to it. She got white toast and bacon as the sides to go with it. While waiting for the food to come, I tried the Bloody Mary. It was in a tall thin glass. The Bloody Mary was good. After about ten minutes or so, the food came out to the table and it looked really good. The server brought over syrup for my French Toast, but I told her I didn't need it, as I don't normally do lots of sugary items. As we started eating, the food was definitely hot, which is great as it came out pretty much when it was done from the kitchen. The French Toast was really good and it was a great indulgence for me. The eggs and bacon were really good too. My mom liked the Veggie Egg Scrambler too. The only minor issue was that the salt dispenser was low on salt, so it was primarily just the rice at the bottom to keep the salt from binding together. Overall, this was a great first experience outside of events. Even though it was packed, the servers were on point to check things along the way. It was only towards the end where I didn't get a chance to catch them about the salt shaker, but I did let them know when we were headed out. Prices are quite reasonable for the amount of food you get, and there was no surcharge if you use a card of some sort instead of cash to pay. If you're looking for a great locally owned breakfast/brunch/lunch spot in that area of the city, this place is worth checking out.
Wow!! Delicious, well seasoned food, good enough that I took a seat at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Get here early! Friendly service and huge portions. I was in the area for some shopping and we got hungry. This little cafe looks unassuming, but do not skip out... will be back to try more!
I recently visited Happy Cafe for their Last Friday Happy Hour and again for Saturday brunch to celebrate my birthday. First, the hospitality at Happy Cafe is top-notch. The neighborhood family diner vibes are evident the moment you walk in. During happy hour, the bartender, Tay, greeted me immediately. While at the bar I started chatting with another individual who I later found out was the owner's mother. Her kindness really stood out, she offered to buy me a birthday drink and invited me back for brunch. Happy Hour: The atmosphere was excellent and the DJ was a great touch. For food I ordered the Bourbon Chicken Deviled Eggs; they were a 10/10- so good that I ordered more to-go. For drinks I tried the Happy Expression (Jameson coffee liqueur, espresso, and whipped cream) and the Peach Tipsy Tea (Maker's Mark, tea, and peach flavor). I would rate both about a 2.5; the Happy Expression was very chocolate-forward without an espresso taste and it was also missing the whipped cream. The Peach Tipsy Tea required extra peach flavor to balance the strength. The food menu felt a bit too limited; adding a simple stand alone sides like fries and some standard drink options such as a Rum and Coke or Vodka Cranberry would be excellent additions. Brunch: Our reservation was for 10 am and we were greeted and seated on arrival. For my birthday they offered me a complimentary Mimosa or a donut of my choice, which I appreciated. For Brunch they had their regular breakfast menu, a brunch menu, and a verbal daily special menu. For my meal, I ordered the corn nuggets as an appetizer and one of the daily specials (banana pancakes with banana foster sauce, scrambled eggs and turkey sausage). The corn nuggets were delicious, but came out after our food, I think they would be even more enjoyable served as corn ribs. vs coin. The Pancakes were also delcious with a perfect buttery crust, and the eggs were seasoned perfectly, no salt or pepper needed. However, the complimentary Mimosa was a miss for me, as it felt more like champagne and syrup than champagne and juice. Overall, I had a lovely time and experience at Happy Cafe. My daughter's and I are looking forward to returning again for the food and making this our new breakfast spot.
Went here Friday around 7 pm for their Last Friday - Happy Hour. A decent amount of people were inside, but we didn't have to wait for a table at all. There was a DJ playing (10/10) he def had a good playlist. The staff were friendly and service was pretty good throughout the night. To drink: I had a Lemon Drop, a Peach Tipsy Tea, and a Strawberry Margarita. I would give them all a (7.5/10). My favorite drink of the 3 was the strawberry margarita as far as flavor and sweetness, but it really only seemed like just the Tipsy tea had alcohol in it for real bc that's all you could taste; it def didn't taste anything of peach. Drinks really could've been better honestly. To eat: I ordered the The Last Friday : Bourbon Wings, Fries, Mozzarella Sticks, and Salmon Bites (9/10) I really enjoyed everything that came with this sampler; however, the salmon bites were more on the dry side to me. Since we were returning customers, the owner gave our table a complimentary plate of roasted veggies: Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes (10/10) very delicious. I def see myself returning again for another Happy Hour - Last Friday event. Im also very interested in trying their brunch menu one day too. My overall rate of experience : 8.5/10
I ordered the traditional banana pudding to go and it was really good. I love the texture of the pudding and it's not overly sweet. The container makes it perfect for easy transition. The service was great and I can't wait to return for a full brunch experience.
This place is small but has a lot of character packed into it. The music was flowing and the atmosphere was filled with conversation. I came here during the week when it first opened and the crowd seemed to all be older. The waiting staff seemed attentive enough but they do tend to disappear. Arrival of my food was about 15 minutes, the table has most of your condiments already when you sit down. One thing I didn't like is that I could get no peppers as they were part of the hash brown mix. Overall there wasn't much to say about the food too much, it was your standard run of the mill breakfast with no outlining features.
I meant to take a photo before I started eating. But I took one bite and I couldn't stop eating them. I had the sweet potato pancakes...she told me to try them before putting on the syrup and they definitely DO NOT NEED the syrup. They are so delicious!! I had the most amazing lunch at Happy Cafe ! First, you walk in and the staff is instantly family! Friendly, happy to see you, and fun! The owner's mom is really sweet , I had a great conversation with her. The decor is calm, beautiful, and I love the trees and natural beauty feel. I got the club sandwich and it was delicious. The bacon is done absolutely perfect. The portion is generous. I picked chips as my side. I also got the warm donut with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. It was sooooo good! I highly recommend this dessert. Parking is ample. It's in a cute shopping area on Diamond Springs. Easy to get in and out of. Happy Cafe! Happy life!
I had a wonderful time at Happy Cafe for Mother's Day brunch. It's an intimate cafe with an upscale feel, would be great for a date. It was a little packed as you can imagine but it ran so smoothly that my experience was not impacted. We opted to seat at the bar to avoid a wait and was serve by our wonderful bartender Tate, who took really good care of us. The food was amazing. It was bursting with flavor and cook to perfection. We ordered from the main menu and something from the special menu of the day and were pleased with all the dishes. We were lucky to be able to dine in because I was told it is recommended to make reservations.
100% THRILLED over this sweet spot! My friend and I were visiting VA Beach for a couple of days and when I posted a picture of the beach on my Facebook page, a friend reached out and said we MUST go to the Happy Cafe. It's not particularly close to the ocean front, but it is, for the most part, on the way back to Richmond. We decided to check it out. The Happy Cafe is located in a little strip mall, kind of ordinary looking on the outside. Once you step in you notice the attention to the welcoming detail. Every item is placed with intention. The feel is fluid, cohesive, calm. The slow jazz playing on the sound system is unique for a breakfast/lunch cafe and these guys pull it off flawlessly. Any hint of stress, GONE! The entire staff was welcoming...everyone in sight spoke to us as we entered and "hosted" to our table. Our waitress was super friendly and efficient. The menu is varied and eclectic. Even though I went in knowing what I was going to have based on a photo online, I had a tough time deciding. I did order what I originally wanted, Avocado Toast. My friend ordered the Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly. The kitchen had our lunch to our table in a jiffy. OMG!! The fanciest Avacado Toast EVER. Topped with spinach, cherry tomatoes and a drizzling of Balsamic. Soooo tasty! The gooey, drippy grilled PB&J was equally as delicious (friend let me take a bite!) I must mention the restroom...sparkling clean, intentional attention to detail, just like the rest of the space. Hand lotions...one for women, one for men. "High End" if you will.... We didn't consider the deserts while at the table...we just forgot. BUT... warm, decorated, dreamy looking donuts are displayed on the front counter. We stood there for a minute debating...We had no more room and tossed around the calorie and sugar aspect a bit before we sadly declined. Sad, sad walk to the car as we said no to that Graduate Donut and all it's yummy looking friends. We might have to go back just for a donut. If you are visiting or living in the VA Beach area, please do yourself a favor and go have a meal at the Happy Cafe. You won't be disappointed.
It's amazing to try different places. My spouse chose this place trying something different. The atmosphere was wonderful, nice clean restaurant. The food was okay, and the service was slow. But you have to remember that they're cooking your food to order, so that it does take a while on the food. I would suggest that when they tell you about the specials to ask the price, so you won't be shocked. When you get your bill, but other than that, the food was worth every time.

Such a great place and experience. Came in with a party of three. Very welcoming upon arrival. The server was very nice and attentive even with a steady growing crowd. I ordered the mimosa flight. Bourbon wings with French toast, cheese egg as and hash brown potatoes. When I say I TORE IT UP! My friends were pleased with their meal also. Everything was fresh and tasty. My family and I were taking a road trip through VA. Wonderful staff, couldn't be any friendlier and the food was delicious! I wish I lived closer. We tried Happy Cafe because it was a part of the Yelp $7.57 Deals for December. We totally loved this place. They got the name right. Happy Cafe. It just has that special VIBE. Our waitress was over the top GREAT. I had a few questions about drinks and she enjoyed telling me about the smoothies. We have been a couple of times and have had just a really nice experience. The food has been Fabulous. When we ordered our meal I had said to my husband "Let's just split it" the waitress was so sweet they split it on 2 different plates. It was perfect. Absolutely Perfect. Great quality and the bread was tasty and toasted. My favorite was that the tomato on my sandwich tasted like a really delicious tomato. Like I said great quality. Fries, Oh you know I'm all about the fries. They are great, crisp on the outside and piping HOT. Oh yeah they have live music and the decor inside is really cool. I was out and about and i wanted to treat myself to something good afterwards. So i got on Yelp and Happy Cafe popped up.. I looked at the menu and the reviews... It seemed like the right thing to do!! So i called in my order. The owner answered and she was very nice and she answered all my questions. It was just after 4pm, so i was able to order off their dinner menu... Yay!! When i arrived there was enough parking. I walked in and the smell of Mmm mmm mmm hit my face... It smelled so good, like brown sugar and pancakes or something. The owners both greeted me. They were finishing up my order. So it was perfect timing. About 15 minutes or less. I chatted with them both, they were both very friendly and approachable!! Thats great in my eyes! They told me they serve brunch and have events there sometimes. It was very clean inside!! I mean cleannnn cleannnn. So that was awesome. Theres a dining area and a bar. They also have a cool wall with greenery. Great for selfies!! They don't have a public restroom so you better pee before you go!! Lol. I ordered the Happy Italian sandwich. It had alot of turkey and ham on it with lettuce, tomato's, mayo, onions, and banana peppers..I added some chipotle mayo and it changed the game... I know its just a sandwich, but it was made with love, i could taste it.. Lol... So good!! Yes.. The mac n cheese was in a cute little aluminum pan. It was buttery and some kinda delicious... I mean i have only had a few macs at restaurants that i will remember, and this is one of them... You can thank me later. Go try it. The loaded potatoes were a hit also. Very filling. I also got a strawberry donut. It was a cake donut i think. But it was good. Next time I'll ask for extra glaze. But yeah I'd get it again. I also got a cobb salad. They were out of grilled chicken so they used fried chicken tenders. That was fine with me. It had a boiled egg, tomatoes, and bacon. A very healthy nice looking salad. I feel this visit was good. On a whim we stopped by the Happy Cafe and I'm sure glad we did. It was 30 min before they closed but they greeted us happily for their Saturday brunch. Breakfast BLT's were incredible and the oatmeal is delicious! The chef brought us bread pudding on the house - peach and regular - and it was the best bread pudding I've ever had. Here's my opinion The restaurant has a nice layout and design, the kitchen being in the entrance and the sitting area to the side. There are also nice decor in there, the plant wall being very pretty and quite nice to look at, as well as the sun and moon embracing each other. Good vibes! The smoothies (I ordered a spinapple smoothie) were delightful and well blended. When the food came, it was well made. The grill cheeses were delightful, and the chicken sandwiches were well made, with none of the ingredients raw or too tough. The eggs, bacon, and French fries were well cooked with the seasoning was equally balanced. read more

1000/10 This was just amazing and soo satisfying. Our plates were clean after we finished. I also had their stawalada smoothie and it was very creamy and rich in taste. Me and my mom and my best friend wanted to try something new. When we walked in the place it was so cozy and clean. The staff were very friendly and nice. I would definitely recommend coming here!! I was in town for a wedding and this spot was recommended to me. We had a party of 19 so there was an hour and a half wait BUT it was well worth it!!! The staff was so accommodating and very welcoming. They were so patient with us as they seated us in groups. They offered us beverages while we waited - just great customer service! I had the pancakes (pictured) - some of the best I've ever eaten. Birthed in Blackstone VA then relocated/launched in CoVA just before COVID hit in 2020, this local cafe is a SWaM owned and family run business in the former space of Primos (then Grande's) pizza off of Diamond Springs Rd. Yelp guided our Friday Daddy daughter dinner date bc she was "in the mood for a sandwich." Casual, welcoming environment, evidenced by several "happy" folks chillin' long after they finished and paid. Despite being a busy night (a great problem to have during COVID) and the lone server, Jeff was attentive, patient, and friendly. He recommended a few sandwiches as well as the wing special. Daughter opted for the Cafe Roast ($9) and I selected 5 smoked wings, 5 grilled shrimp, and roasted potatoes ($14). Cafe Roast (5/5) beef was TENDER, juicy, and flavorful, made even better with Havarti cheese and warm ciabatta bun. So good, she devoured all but 1 bite before offering me "the last taste."Smoked wings (5/5) were fresh, moist, heat hot, and glazed in sweet and spicy chili sauce; shrimp was warm and tender, with a light savory flavor. We shared the potatoes since the sandwich didn't come with a side; warm, tender inside with a lightly charred and spiced outside. Yummy. Though we didn't have room for dessert, their graduated donuts looked tempting. Before exiting, we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Tomeka, and her Father. Both were engaging people that care about guests' experiences. As the the brain/heart behind the business, Tomeka described the donut as an "experience." I jokingly replied, "Pomp and Circumstance in yo mouth, huh?" All in all, a very good meal with my daughter, served by quality people, amid a diverse crowd that properly reflects the heart and soul of our community. Adult bevs available with a full bar on prem. Happy Cafe is an unassuming little spot until you walk inside to be overwhelmed by the welcoming atmosphere and sweet smell of the best and healthiest breakfast menu around. The Cafe is a meticulously neat and warm space. The menu features many vegan and vegetarian options. There is also a very creative libations menu that brings more happy to the Happy Cafe. It's like Bay Local in a cafe but with way more reasonable prices. My son went with the waffle meal and I went with the vegan meal (I'm not vegan but it sounded really delicious). The waffle was light and a touch of sweetness that took good to great. My breakfast included avocado toast that was seasoned to be anything but boring. The scoop of hash browns is what tied everything together. The cafe was pretty full and I saw lots of people with flights of mimosas that looked amazing. Wow! Can't believe I hadn't come here sooner! A quick walk from my house is Happy Café, a cute little restaurant with food that packs big flavor, awesome music, and amazing service!! My boyfriend and I came by for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were quickly seated in the dining room, where a live musical performance was taking place! I work next door and have heard people belting out tunes, and always wanted to see an event for myself. We came at the perfect time!! There are fresh flowers on every table, which is so cool. The adorable logo bedazzles the wall. There is plenty of seating and the interior of the restaurant is just very pretty looking! Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. She always made sure we were cared for. The dining room WAS quite loud due to the music, but she was very patient with us. I asked for orange juice and she thought I said champagne. Lolol. I do not have a loud voice. So.. I ordered the avocado toast w vegan sausage, and the hash browns everyone raves about. My boyfriend got "The Cook" bagel, which has sausage, ham, bacon, pastrami, egg, and pepper jack, along with a regular bagel w cream cheese and hash browns. Everything came out delicious! It is so cool that they have vegan sausage. I loved it! The presentation was so nice with the avocado toast. I loved the hash brown dome. They are like riced potatoes. They were so flavorful and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend devoured his breakfast bagel. Their breakfast options are unique and so delicious!! We tried this place for the first time on Mother's Day. The wait was pretty normal, considering. The food was really good! Everybody had something different so we all tasted each other's food and everything was great. The ambiance was everything! Modern and super cute, but small, you can take really cute pics in there if you are into that. I believe its black owned so we Definitely found a new food spot! read more

Don't Worry, Eat Happy! This is a motto etched in the interior of this cafe, one that captures their mood and vibe perfectly. Happy Cafe is a black and woman owned business that originated in Blackstone, Virginia, in 2016. They moved to Virginia Beach in late 2019, just before the COVID pandemic hit us in 2020. It is tucked away in the same strip mall shopping center as Susan's Kitchenette on Diamond Springs Road, just before Northampton Boulevard. Parking is plentiful. Their front counter hits your eyes as you enter and is available for those who want to place a take-out order. Comfortable chairs are provided for waiting. Dine-in service is available in the main dining area over to the left. A warm and friendly greeting awaited me with each of my visits as I was led to their dining room. I enjoyed the following during two lunch visits and one Saturday brunch visit: CAFE ROAST: Shredded Chuck Roast Beef, French Onion, and Havarti Cheese on a Ciabatta Bun. This one was listed as one of their Signature Sandwiches. This was a timely order, as I was in the mood for a roast beef sandwich. The shredded roast beef was juicy and flavorful. The flavors of the French Onion and Havarti cheese came through nicely. If I could tweak their recipe a bit, I would have liked to have seen a little bit of pink. I always like my roast beef a bit on the rare side. Otherwise, it was very satisfying. My Rating: 4 Stars. ULTIMATE CLUB SANDWICH: Swiss, American, and Cheddar Cheese, Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato on Sourdough Bread. I skipped the Mayo. This was another one of their Signature Sandwiches. This was the most awesome Club Sandwich I have ever eaten. The meats and cheeses combined together beautifully and rocked my world with an explosion of flavors. The bacon and the bread delivered a nice crunchy texture as the other ingredients melted in my mouth. I ate half of it during my visit and took the rest home. It was my lunch and my dinner for the entire day, leaving me stuffed and happy. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. WARM DONUT WITH SALTED CARAMEL ICING: Ordered as a small dessert, this one hit the spot nicely. It was a cake style donut that melted in my mouth as the salted caramel icing added love notes to my tongue. My Rating: 5 Stars. SPINAPPLE: This one was listed among their Smoothies and was a delicious blend of frozen Green Apple and Pineapples. I added some Matcha powder from their list of add-on ingredients, which delivered some extra flavor and an energy boost. This was one of the most magically delicious smoothies I have ever enjoyed. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. SHRIMP & GRITS: This was a special addition during a Saturday brunch event, which I attended with the 757 Foodie dining group. This version was prepared with a delicate and exquisite Cajun Cream Sauce that added a little bit of spice. The shrimp were plump and juicy with their tails intact, which is always my preference. The grits were creamy and delicious. My Rating: 5 Stars. I also ordered two sides with my Shrimp & Grits: HASH BROWNS: The potatoes came cut up in small rice sized pieces and were presented in a dome shaped mold. They were tasty enough, but I would have liked just a little more seasoning. I always like a little paprika with my hash browns. My Rating: 4 Stars. FRUIT CUP: This one came with a beautiful display of strawberries and blackberries on top, Underneath were some grapes and blueberries. The combination was refreshing and delicious, It was a great palate cleanser. My Rating: 5 Stars. The biggest highlight of the Saturday brunch event was some live music played by Taylor G. She belted out some beautiful tunes with her voice, including Lean On Me, which lifted my spirits. The overall vibe of the brunch event was electrifying. My overall food rating comes out to 4.7 Stars. Their vibe and service both come out to 5-Plus stars. The good folks at Happy Cafe pour their heart and soul into their food and customer service, resulting in a strong 5-star overall rating in my book. Some of their other offerings are already calling my name for future visits. Among them are their Avocado Toast with Bacon, their Salmon Salad, their Bread Pudding, and one of their Strawberry Smoothies. Happy Cafe is, truly indeed, a happy place, and I am eagerly looking forward to going back. read more

I've gotten TO-GO food from here a couple times and it was always good! This was my first time eating in on a Sunday for brunch and it was packed, the service was slow but i expected that with the amount of people. The food and drinks were great, portions are a little small but the presentation was nice. We got the wild berry mimosas & The bar tender was picking fruit with her hand to put into drinks which is always a turn off but overall it was decent. I'd get food to go again. read more

Let me start with HAPPY CAFE is Fun! If you weren't happy when you got there you will be by the time you leave. I had such a great time! I've never been happier drinking a smoothie! They have a crazy selection & if you really want to be happy add intentions. I enjoyed their Pango flavor w. Rum! amazingly fruity & thick! Plant based friends they have amazing vegan sausages that I paired with pancakes, hash browns & eggs. If you don't get anything else get the hash browns!! The service was top tier! Happy Cafe actually has happy employees! I love that for them! Overall I was very happy with my visit & can't wait to go again! read more

The food was really good, no complaints there at all. I really enjoyed the whole vibe of the place and the people, they also had really good music. Although it was pretty busy we didn't wait too long to get seated. However, our waiter was not very attentive and it took quite a while to order and then get our food and when it arrived I was missing my bacon. They handled that pretty quickly tho and got it out to me in minutes. I would definitely return! read more
