I wish I lived closer. We tried Happy Cafe because it was a part of the Yelp $7.57 Deals for December. We totally loved this place. They got the name right. Happy Cafe. It just has that special VIBE. Our waitress was over the top GREAT. I had a few questions about drinks and she enjoyed telling me about the smoothies. We have been a couple of times and have had just a really nice experience. The food has been Fabulous. When we ordered our meal I had said to my husband "Let's just split it" the waitress was so sweet they split it on 2 different plates. It was perfect. Absolutely Perfect. Great quality and the bread was tasty and toasted. My favorite was that the tomato on my sandwich tasted like a really delicious tomato. Like I said great quality. I was out and about and i wanted to treat myself to something good afterwards. So i got on Yelp and Happy Cafe popped up.. I looked at the menu and the reviews... It seemed like the right thing to do!! So i called in my order. The owner answered and she was very nice and she answered all my questions. It was just after 4pm, so i was able to order off their dinner menu... Yay!! When i arrived there was enough parking. I walked in and the smell of Mmm mmm mmm hit my face... I'm obsessed with peanut butter and it was calling my name! The vegan sandwich was very tasty. It was full of flavor and toasted perfectly. The toasted Pb & J.... DROOL! I personally could have used more jelly. I feel the peanut butter and the jelly should be using out of the sandwich but of course that's a personal preference. In the end this sandwich was amazing. There are also nice decor in there, the plant wall being very pretty and quite nice to look at, as well as the sun and moon embracing each other. Good vibes! Went to happy cafe this morning for brunch! I've tried to go a few times before, but they are always so busy and we never wanted to wait! Today we were able to get seated within 15 minutes arriving. I will say it took us a while for our actual waitress to get to us, but once she did, we were able to get our food and drinks very quickly! I had the pancake meal that came with 2 eggs and bacon. I added the fully loaded hashbrowns and also had the Dreamy coco. Everything was great ! I have no complaints. An older women, I am assuming possibly the owner, came to our table and introduced herself and made sure we were enjoying ourselves and didn't need anything. She informed me to overcome long waits to call in and make a reservation! This isn't a huge establishment, and they do get busy. My only suggestion is potentially more staff. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and told us she had been running around and busy since arriving. Definitely plan to visit again! read more

So good, she devoured all but 1 bite before offering me "the last taste."Smoked wings (5/5) were fresh, moist, heat hot, and glazed in sweet and spicy chili sauce; shrimp was warm and tender, with a light savory flavor. We shared the potatoes since the sandwich didn't come with a side; warm, tender inside with a lightly charred and spiced outside. Yummy. Happy Cafe is a black and woman owned business that originated in Blackstone, Virginia, in 2016. They moved to Virginia Beach in late 2019, just before the COVID pandemic hit us in 2020. It is tucked away in the same strip mall shopping center as Susan's Kitchenette on Diamond Springs Road, just before Northampton Boulevard. Parking is plentiful. Their front counter hits your eyes as you enter and is available for those who want to place a take-out order. Comfortable chairs are provided for waiting. Dine-in service is available in the main dining area over to the left. A warm and friendly greeting awaited me with each of my visits as I was led to their dining room. I enjoyed the following during two lunch visits and one Saturday brunch visit: CAFE ROAST: Shredded Chuck Roast Beef, French Onion, and Havarti Cheese on a Ciabatta Bun. This one was listed as one of their Signature Sandwiches. This was a timely order, as I was in the mood for a roast beef sandwich. The shredded roast beef was juicy and flavorful. The flavors of the French Onion and Havarti cheese came through nicely. If I could tweak their recipe a bit, I would have liked to have seen a little bit of pink. I always like my roast beef a bit on the rare side. Otherwise, it was very satisfying. My Rating: 4 Stars. ULTIMATE CLUB SANDWICH: Swiss, American, and Cheddar Cheese, Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato on Sourdough Bread. I skipped the Mayo. This was another one of their Signature Sandwiches. This was the most awesome Club Sandwich I have ever eaten. The meats and cheeses combined together beautifully and rocked my world with an explosion of flavors. WARM DONUT WITH SALTED CARAMEL ICING: Ordered as a small dessert, this one hit the spot nicely. It was a cake style donut that melted in my mouth as the salted caramel icing added love notes to my tongue. My Rating: 5 Stars. SPINAPPLE: This one was listed among their Smoothies and was a delicious blend of frozen Green Apple and Pineapples. They were tasty enough, but I would have liked just a little more seasoning. I always like a little paprika with my hash browns. My Rating: 4 Stars. FRUIT CUP: This one came with a beautiful display of strawberries and blackberries on top, Underneath were some grapes and blueberries. The combination was refreshing and delicious, It was a great palate cleanser. My Rating: 5 Stars. The biggest highlight of the Saturday brunch event was some live music played by Taylor G. She belted out some beautiful tunes with her voice, including Lean On Me, which lifted my spirits. The overall vibe of the brunch event was electrifying. As a matter of fact, I actually asked for more of the sauce that the shrimps were cooked in, but this was not possible. Probably because it's the juices of each batch of shrimps cooked per order with whatever magic sprinkles they put on it, so the sauce is limited. It was really good! Special mention: get the HASH BROWNS!!! If you read nothing else, maybe you'll see this in caps, but GET. THEM. PERIOD.! The potatoes come out looking similar to cauliflower "rice" . I don't know how they cut it up into small uniform pieces, almost like a grain size, but it's like they pan fry them first, then mold it into the dome shape. However they do it, I could just eat a bowl of the Hash Browns. I have not seen any other spot make it this way. You have to try it! Plus, I heard their evening menu was great as well! All I need to do now is to venture out at night haha. They also have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options for my plant based friends! - Kids - The kids meals (see pics) are plentiful and so reasonably priced! Thanks to Yelp's 757 deal, my girlfriend and I were able to make the drive from Newport News to Virginia Beach to see what the fuss was about. And man was it a treat....and an adventure that actually had a twist. Happy Cafe is located in a small shopping center next to a few local shops and a Subway. Upon walking in, you can either order out where they have the menu printed up above the counter or go to the small dining area. All I have to say is this is one the neatest restaurant I've been in. From top the bottom, the decor is wonderful. They even have a bar in the dining room where you can order alcohol. Once we were seated, we found out that on weekends they only serve breakfast for the day. Given that we ate breakfast at home, our plan was to eat lunch. Since I'm a Yelper, I was allowed to order the $7.57 deal which was a club sandwich with fries. But my girlfriend couldn't since she's not on Yelp. Right there, we were talking about leaving and going to another place, but a big Thank You to the staff for allowing her to order a sandwich wrap (she ordered the turkey bacon ranch wrap w/hash browns). This is what you call 'welcoming your guests to your home' type of deal. Now, onto the Yelp meal. One word: delicious. The club sandwich, which is a double decker, consists of ham, bacon, turkey, lettuce and tomatoes. I requested all Provolone cheese and mustard instead of American and cheddar cheeses and mayo. The sandwich was well cooked with both sides all buttered up. And the fries....hot and crispy. Just the way they should be. To be honest, I didn't finish all of it, but probably 97% of it.....LOL!!! And I was able to order a free smoothie as part of the Yelp Elite deal (look for my accompanying review on the G.I. Josh for that one). Great customer service! My brother and his family now have a new breakfast spot! So glad I was able to have this tasty spot while visiting.the best part of traveling is getting the best local spots and this is definitely one on them! Food was Phenomenal! Took a longer to get it than I expected to wait, 45 mins, but it was worth the wait. The service was equally as phenomenal too! I had the breakfast club sandwich and the loaded hash browns and I'm so glad I did. They were delicious! There wasn't room for dessert, so next time I come, I will bring someone with me and share a meal so I can try the house made desserts. read more
