This is an easy, no-frills alternative to Gus's if you want fried chicken downtown. The tenders and mac n cheese are so good, and everything comes out hot and fresh. Also, we've never had to wait to get seats and order directly from the bar. That beats the super slow service and crowds at Gus's any day. For chicken tenders specifically, Tumble 22 on W. 6th is actually better, but Happy Chicks wins based on its side dishes, since Tumble 22 doesn't have any hot sides. The only downside to Happy Chicks is the windowless bar atmosphere, which reminds you you're on Dirty Sixth. But if that doesn't bother you, it's nearly perfect. read more

I wish this place wasn't inside a bar, but I guess all the good chicken places in town start that way. Probably the best chicken tenders I've had (yes, better than Cane's - sorry not my one love). Good sides from mac and cheese to fries. Good tea as well. They're probably better if you order ahead before you sit down. Tip: If you're not too hungry, the kids version is actually pretty filling, comes out faster, and still as great! Pretty hard to find parking any time of the day because it's on 6th, but we managed a couple of streets over. It's a strange layout, but more spacious than other joints. Happy Chick is definitely more of a bar than a restaurant, which was kind of surprising. Long and narrow, there is a large bar with seating all around, high tops lining the wall and an upstairs with about 10 four-top tables. The menu is small but refined to their "speciality" - chicken tenders. You can select your number of tenders and sauce, as well as one of three sides: japeleno cheddar cornbread (very dry) and bacon mac and cheese (very average/processed-tasting), chipotle cinnamon seasoned fries (not an overpowering seasoning but the fries taste like typical frozen ones). I am a tad confused to all the rave reviews because I found the whole experience and food to be pretty average. The chicken tenders were juicy (they come out piping hot, be warned), but the breading was very thick and fell off in huge clumps as soon as you took a bite or tried to cut into it. The sauces were good: creamy garlic and avocado ranch being the stand outs. The fries were frozen and then very greasy when presented. Only plus was that it was worth the price. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired: very loud, TVs on, and empty at 6:30 on a Thursday night. The bathroom doors swing shut and make such a loud thud it sounds like people are dropping boulders in the building. Craved for some fried chicken and stumbled upon this little gem. While looking at reviews, didn't realize that it was located inside a bar. I ordered the Classic Chick. It was not as spicy as I wanted, but still tasty with their sauces. I chose the jalapeño ranch and country gravy. Jalapeño ranch is definitely the winner between the two. I've been looking forward to coming here since they opened and it was meh, great after a drunken night on 6th but otherwise it was nothing memorable. Food: Got the classic chicken and it was a good amount of food. The chicken itself was average, pro was that it wasn't greasy or dropping in oil and came out hot, other than that it was nothing special. Mac and cheese: needs a lot more cheese, the cheesiness in the sauce was diluted to the point it was barely there FRIES: OBSESSED with those FRIES, they were covered in a sugar cinnamon powder and crunchy and soft at the same time! Cornbread: it was like any other corn bread Service: when we entered the place, there was no greeting or any sign as to where to sit so we just sat at the bar. It seemed like the both the bar tenders were in a competition to see who could ignore our presence the longest. Also, all the other people (abt 5) eating here were all employees. I've had three visits already and have enjoyed coming here each time. The formula is pretty simple: ice cold beer, friendly bartenders, good food, great crowd and lots of games on tv. It's always a good sign when you see and hear of workers from other bars hanging out at a place and on my visits to Happy Chicks that's always been the case. The bartenders are always really nice with prompt service and no attitude, they enjoy being there just like the customers. Foodwise the fried chicken tastes great and is made to order. I've seen some customers wonder why the food takes just a bit longer but that's because everything is made fresh and thus worth the extra few minutes wait. Another reason why I like coming here is the crowd is fun and friendly, both guys and gals. It's official. I'm addicted to this place. The proximity to my work and the discounted delivery rates on Favor aren't helping. I'm not mad, though. This place provides a great meal. I order the Little Chick, which is a couple of tenders and fries, and I'm perfectly full for hours. The chicken tenders are incredible, and the fries...OH MY GOD, THE FRIES. They probably deserve their own review. ;) They're kind of Golden Chick-esque. Soft but perfectly fried-crispy, and seasoned at just the right amount. So heavenly. I've really not explored the gamut of sauce varieties, but I have had the honey mustard and gravy. Both are great. As for the location itself, I really can't comment on that. I've never been because I've always ordered on Favor. But it's really wonderful to know that Dirty 6th has some delicious, not pricey, meal options. Real rating: 4.5 I have nothing to complain about this place. The only reason why .5 was deducted is because the tenders themselves were good but they weren't AMAzing. However, paired with the honey sriracha sauce there was a great balance of flavor and texture. I would like to specially comment on the fries. They were coated in some sort of batter that made them perfectly savory with a hint of sweetness. Again, dipping then into the honey sriracha sauce only amplified the flavor. Also, it was a good amount of food for the price (along with the fries and 3-piece tenders came a small square of jalapeño cornbread). Good option if you're craving tenders. I'd recommend using dine with DASH to order and pay ahead of time, so when you get there you get seated immediately and don't have to wait long for your food- and then you can just leave when you're done eating. read more

One table needed to be bussed, the other had nothing on it but a few food remnants so selected another table and asked bartender to wipe it. Received the chicken strips with mac and cheese and fries - chicken was hot, fries and mac and cheese were cold. There's a full bar, decent beer selection (but not for craft snobs) & a Rose & Chardonnay option for winers. The menu is straightforward comfort food deliciousness at great prices. Crispy breast chicken tenders & battered fries that need no sauce, but there are plenty of those to choose from. All fresh made according to the menu. The ranch dressings we had were all amazing, but the cilantro was my personal favorite and my husband loved the honey sriracha. Will be returning for sure! read more

Everyone loved it and there was plenty of food for the 8 people in my group. Several of us had 2nd helpings and we still had leftovers. Imagine being hungry on a Saturday evening and you and your partner decide to order in. After waiting nearly an hour and half for our delivery (which we expected being a high volume time for most businesses) we receive ONLY a side order of Mac and cheese and no entrees whatsoever. I caught this as the grub hub driver walked away and he coldly announced that I must contact the restaurant for the discrepancy. So I did. I called the restaurant and asked about my order. At first they couldn't even find record of it and after explaining I had an order number and an email to prove I paid $40 and only received a side of Mac and cheese, they magically found it. Speaking to the manager was the most sickening part of this experience for me. He LAUGHED (literally) when I explained to him what happened and he said it happens all the time with grub hub. So the manager at this establishment knows the business they work with is wronging their customers and they do nothing about it. I only know that because I asked. I asked what they planned to do and he said he may mention it in a monthly report. So back in my home, they told me they wouldn't fix my order and all they could do was refund us. Awful.
