It's spicy and creamy and the bread was super good. This was my second time coming back for it and I hate coming to dirty sixth. DEEPLY UPSETTING EXPERIENCE: Harassment and Lack of Accountability I'm writing this because I'm genuinely shaken by the treatment I received at Casino el Camino last night (Saturday, 4/25, approx. 2:15 AM). While my husband and I were quickly packing our leftovers after closing was announced, we were targeted by a staff member (short male, dreads, full gauged ears). He began aggressively throwing glasses onto our table and followed us down the stairs to intimidate us as we were leaving. As an Asian woman, it was heartbreaking to realize we were the only ones being targeted this way--the bar was still half-full, yet no other patrons were being rushed or hovered over. The situation peaked when the employee looked me in the face and called me a "fucking c--t" in front of my husband and friends. When we asked for help, the manager's "apology" session was a failure; the employee simply started yelling at us again. Instead of de-escalating, the front door staff slammed the door in our faces to hide him. When I asked for the General Manager's name, I was handed a blank business card--a clear attempt to avoid accountability. I gave the card back, as I won't be silenced by a generic brush-off. I am sharing this because a staff member who uses sexist slurs and physically intimidates women is a major liability. Not much food to choose from on 6th Street and we were looking for someplace we hadn't been before. This place showed up on Google, and we were surprised we'd missed it all these years. Turns out someone was looking over us all this time. We ignored our better judgement, and walked in. It has bit of a dark dungeon vibe, which is kinda cool, but that's probably hiding what scurries across the floor. I'd hate to see a forensic black light in this dive. The bar staff didn't seem to want to be bothered, so we decided to skip drinks and order something to eat at the kitchen window. I thought Meatloaf had died, but he's alive (sort of) and taking food orders. I've got a couple of his albums, and had always thought he looked a bit rough on tv, but he's really much scarier in person. Seriously bad attitude, like he's pissed that he ended up here after so many successful years in the music biz. Staff were super nice and helpful, let you know how everything worked and did their best at keeping the line moving. This was in the middle for me. You get a lot of food for what you pay for. The burgers are pretty big but for me they lacked flavor like the meat itself wasn't seasoned. I got the amarillo burger which they loaded with the peppers but just didn't have alot of flavor. This is more of a dive bar, that happens to sell food. The bar is for drinks. And there is a window in the back where you line up to order food. And wait for them to call your name. There are some tables on the first floor across from the bar. And the 2nd floor has some tables and a pool table. Timewise I feel like it took a while to wait in line and order, but it passed by eventually. The crowd was lively, not packed, but enough folks where we had a wait a bit to snag a table. Food- decided to split the Chicago burger with my friend and we added bacon. When the burger arrived, it was large and looked dry, very unassuming, and not picturesque. I also noticed it looked more well done then medium well, which also had me concerned in terms of tenderness. But when I tell you looks can be deceiving! The bun was good. The meat is so well seasoned throughout, and it's tender and juicy. I had only planned to eat a quarter of it, but ended up eating the entire half of it. They have a variety of burger options. The burgers are 3/4 pound of charbroiled Angus beef in a handmade patty. The meat is seasoned well and cooked medium. The patty is so thick, I couldn't finish the whole burger at the restaurant. I took half the burger home and had the leftover for lunch the next day. The burger is well worth the $14.75. My friends and I did a little weekend getaway in Austin with very minimal plans other than partaking in good food and drinks. After having amazing drinks are a nearby speakeasy, we needed a little sustenance to get us through the rest of the night. Casino El Camino came highly recommended by staff at the speakeasy and said it was a popular spot for the best burgers around. Our group happens to love burgers so going here was a no brainer. I actually have had this place bookmarked for years ever since seeing them on the Food Network. On the show, Guy Fieri comes during the day which painted this place in a whole different light. What we came to was a divey, dark, bar blasting metal music. I loved the vibes. The owner is a musician and handpicked all the music in the well known jukebox. There is a second floor that overlooks the downstairs and has pool tables and additional seating. They also have a very cool patio out back. The place was packed so we divided and conquered. A couple of us scouted out open tables, the others got in line for food. They have the bar to get drinks, but if you want food, there's a whole other line for that. For our food, the fellas got our own burgers and the ladies shared a burger. I personally went with the Amarillo Burger. After a night of cocktails and beer, I wanted something spicy and this burger was it. The burgers are pretty hefty here coming in at 12 ounces. The burger was topped with roasted serrano peppers, jalapeno jack cheese and cilantro mayo. The combination of all those different flavors was outstanding! The burger itself was seasoned and cooked to perfection. At first glance it looked a little too well done but it was juicy and so flavorful. I got it on a jalapeno cheddar brioche bun which was a perfect vessel for all the toppings. We got the Basket Case which was a very generous portion of tasty fries. I couldn't stop munching on them. None of us could finish our burgers and had to get to go boxes. For the price and for what you get, there is total value here. I am only knocking off a star because of how long it took to order and get our food. I found a spot to sit and ordered our drinks, and my partner got on line to order food. Although there were only 3 people in front of him, he was on line for 30-45 minutes before ordering. The people taking orders at the window were pretty abrasive and rude (we couldn't tell if this was their bit and the "vibe" or if they were just having a bad day?). When you walk in, you might second guess me again. The fact that you are ordering from a walk-up window probably will have you re-reading this to make sure you have the right place. Trust me. You are in the right place. Sort of a bonus if you like divey places overall, but then, when you are hungry after a couple of drinks, you will NOT need to leave the premises for your fancy tablecloth place somewhere. You would be insulting your taste buds and stomach if you DID leave. The mac and cheese app was awesome, the fries were tasty, and DEFINITELY ask for the hot sauce from the window. They had a magical hot sauce in the back that made my meal. Know that they have different levels. I got the hottest one that made the guy in the back raise his eyebrows a little. I definitely don't look like a guy who can handle the hottest sauces. The place. TV's for sports. Two pool tables upstairs in a very cool area. Great service by the bartenders. Energetic vibe overall. But, although the place overall is a really cool spot, and maybe you will go for that alone (which would still be a winning choice), the burger will floor you. Was brought here by a friend who told me that they had the self proclaimed "best burger in the world". With such high praise and considering myself a "foodie" naturally, I had to check it out. At first glance it seemed like nothing more than a copy paste of any other dive bar you'd see on 6th. It was dark, gritty, and had a smell that'd remind you of your grandparents. Definitely the last place I'd look for this alleged "best burger". Safe to say I wasn't immediately sold. That uneasiness wouldn't last long though because as soon as I stepped up to place my order I was greeted by a cheerful man with a toothy smile who immediately put me at ease. I asked him what he would recommend, to which he replied with such conviction that it gave me goosebumps, "The Amarillo Burger" . So I ordered that with an 8pc wing and fries. 15-20 minutes had passed when they eventually brought out the food. And mannnn let me tell you. It only took one bite to confirm the "Best Burger" monkier. The patty was perfectly cooked (medium rare, it seemed) with such complex yet nuanced seasoning that you nary see on the humble burger. It almost tasted like a steak. And the bun, an afterthought in most places, completed the ensemble perfectly. Maybe it was because i was drunk, maybe it was because I was starving, but every bite tasted like heaven. The wings were the best part of the meal surprisingly though. With the buffalo sauce living up to its name, spicy, with a kick. And yet again, I was surprised by their ability to turn something so common into something with such a rich flavor. Something about it was unique enough to distinguish itself from other places like wingstop and if they weren't so pricy it would be my go-to wing place in Austin ! (SADLY SEEMS LIKE THEY ONLY HAD 3 FLAVORS) The fries were also good, with the right amount of seasoning, I'd say a little on the lighter side but it caused no issues as it almost served as a palette cleanser for me.
