Great experience at this Austin location. We were looking for some Mediterranean food and after telling us of long wait times we took a chance and came to this cool and chill burger joint. Ordering was a breeze and they even had our table set and ready for us by time we made it through the long line to cashier to order. Food was out in less than 10 minutes and sweet potatoes fries to share were out and at table in 2 min. Impressive since line was to end of the door on a Sunday. Plenty of seating . Note : they do validate parking for area next to restaurant since parking is at a premium .Our parking was $22 since we originally were dining down the street. All bread is baked in house and burgers were done to perfection. They even support active military which I appreciate. Worth a stop! read more

I felt compelled to write this review. I always remember the memorable experiences I enjoyed at Hopdoddy the first time I went. Somehow the quality of the burgers and shakes have deteriorated big time. Tonight I got the Wagyu Smash burger. I have never tried this one before. I love smash burgers admnd Wagyu is premium beef. The beef patty was overcooked and the burger was "extremely" salty (did not finish the burger). Last, the burger is too simple but that's on me as I should know what to expect from reading the menu I do not recommend Hopdoddy Burger Bar. I hope they read this and understand expectations are high when customers and fans dine at their restaurants. Improve your game guys. THE BIG: Located on South Congress right next to La la land cafe. Decently big hopdoddy with inside only seating. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here after walking up and down south congress. We've come to a hopdoddy before but this was our first time at the SoCo location. It was pretty packed inside and you have to walk through the seating area into the back to order your food. Here we got the parmesan truffle fries, el diablo, and the good night/good cause. The el diablo was absolutely delicious and the parmesan truffle fries was just the perfect amount of seasoning. The fries also came in a gigantic bowl which is perfect for sharing (because sharing is caring). Service was great with servers delivering your food as long as you pick up your number on a stand. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, we spent around $40 for two hamburgers and a side of parmesan truffle fries. We came out full and I'd definitely come back to try more stuff. read more

Years later and I still love Hopdoddy. Since the COVID era the happy hour has changed--gone are their $5 burgers, however their drinks are half off and they have delicious sliders for $5. Times change and everything is more expensive but the quality has remained the same. The bread is still made in house and they use high-quality meat for their grass fed burgers. The staff is awesome--super attentive and friendly. I stop in once a week and plan to continue doing so! read more

Quite a few places in Austin can boast of having the best burgers, and the same can be said for Hopdoddy. The Wagyu Smash comes with a secret sauce, onions, cheese, and jalapenos, and it is the burger I order 9 times out of 10. Sometimes, smash burgers are smashed so much that there's too much bun. They have the meat-to-bun ratio down to a science. That's a fact. My boyfriend likes the Buffalo Bill burger. The inside is alot larger than what you would expect looking at it from the outside. You order your food further inside and while in line, a server asks you how many are in your party so that they can go and scout out a table for you. Originally we decided to split a wagyu smash and truffle fries since we just had Amy's before, but the burger was SO yummy, we both wanted another burger. This time, we went for the double bacon jam and also a shake. The burger was good, but honestly too salty because there wasn't enough jam and nothing else to cut the fat. It was a bit hard to finish. This is a cute place if you are already on SoCo and want a burger. I don't know if it's worth it to drive here and fight the traffic. The service is very friendly. The burger is just so-so. It came relatively quickly but the bottom bun was completely soggy when I got it. The patty was sliding out of the mushy bun. It was a mess. For the price, it's a relatively small burger. The fries were a little meh. Kind of reminded me of school cafeteria fries . The edges of the patty were a bit dry. I don't think it is worth the money. Every time I pass by this place in south congress it is packed with people. I came here on a Sunday night and there was barely anyone there most likely due to the freezing weather. We had high expectations for the burgers and in short - they fell short. The burgers were overpriced and were overpowered by the toppings. Was not pleased with the service at the beginning. The cashier's name was Blake I believe (he had a glowing pride hat) , and had an attitude with everyone that I was with and it looked the same for guests before us. When I went to order, he asked how many for the party, which I tried to respond with "it's going to be separate because we want to place a to-go order" I barely got any words out when he interrupted me and repeated his question with an attitude. I said the same thing but this time he let me finish and began taking my order. While he took my order he was also a little rude, interrupting me a couple times. After my friends placed their orders, they also came to me commenting on his rudeness. Aside from this experience, the food was great and the rest of the staff was great too. I arrived around 7:05pm on a Tuesday evening with my son and sister. We were visiting from out of the state. We actually went a different location a few days prior and enjoyed it so much that we wanted to try it again. We had to go to the back of the restaurant to place the order. The order was placed at 7:13pm. I got a double bacon jam burger, which what I got last time. I had got truffle fries at my last visit and wasn't a fan, so I got sweet potato fries this time. I got a large frozen peach margarita as well. My son got the kids burger and fries. The meal came with a drink but the cup was TINY lol. He's 10 and really could've used a regular sized cup. After ordering and paying we were given a table number to sit at so our food could be brought to us. My drink came at 7:16pm, not long after sitting down. It was delicious! A large, strong, flavored margarita for $11 can't be beat. I highly recommend. Our food came at 7:23pm and it did not disappoint! The sweet potato fries came with some type of sauce. I have no idea what it was but it paired well. We did have a waitress who came over periodically. She was friendly. The restaurant bakes their own bread, hand cut their fries, churn their own ice cream, and supports local farms and ranchers. All great things. They will validate your parking if you park in the garage. It was a rainy, weekday, so the street wasn't busy. But during the day and weekend, it gets PACKED and street parking is nearly impossible. My boyfriend and I recently enjoyed a Hopdoddy Burger Bar experience from the comfort of our own home, opting for takeout, and it was largely a hit! We both went for the Double Bacon Jam burger, and let me tell you, it was amazing. The star of the show was undoubtedly the bacon jam - incredibly flavorful, savory, and the perfect complement to the juicy patties. My only minor quibble was that there was a little too much raw onion for my personal preference, but honestly, the fabulous bacon jam more than made up for it. Every bite was truly delicious. To share, we ordered the Nacho Fries, and they were also great. A satisfying portion with all the cheesy, jalapeño-laden goodness you'd expect. While we didn't get to experience the full ambiance since we ordered to-go, the quick glimpse we caught of the interior suggested a trendy and inviting atmosphere that we'd love to check out in person sometime. Admittedly, Hopdoddy is a bit on the pricier side for a burger, but considering the quality and how much we loved every single bite, we felt it was well worth the splurge. This place was my go to favorite. The food was consistently good and fairly priced. My latest few visits have been very disappointing. Most recently my medium rare burger came out well done. Even charred on the edges and you could tell the grille hadn't been cleaned in a while since the burger smelled and tasted like old burnt meat. After ordering, the register prompts you to tip a minimum of 18% even though you get no actual table service. A lady did bring out the food but never came back to ask how things were or if I needed anything else. I guess that was worth an 18% tip? I don't think so. I'm not a cheap dude and normally wouldn't be too annoyed had the food been good. This is first time I've been here in probably 6 months and likely won't be back. Classic American burger experience - meat and fat galore if youre into that. They have a good amount of burger options and choice of grass fed meat for any burger. You can also sub the bun for just salad to make it a burger bowl for a low carb option. I am not a huge fan of red meats and fatty foods so burgers are not my top choices for a meal. I do appreciate their classic burger though just with buns, beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. Simple and the meat is done well enough. A lot of happy customers as well. I feel the space can hold a lot of people in on a nice day. You can sit out on the patio or on the side area and enjoy the music from the other side of the fence. Lots of street parking and a garage outback that will Credit you for an hour and a half. It's worth coming out here. So funny reading my review of this place in 2014. I went from 2014 being probably the last time I stepped foot in this place to now becoming a regular weekly. Oh how the tables have turned.... What's changed you ask? They now have happy hour SUNDAY -- THURSDAY from 3 to 6pm. But also aside from the happy hour, I found a new love for their kale salad and truffle french fries.
