Literally the WORST Chinese restaurant I have EVER eaten at. Ordered wonton soup and it was soy sauce water with wontons, nothing else (no vegetables or anything else). The "soup" base was the worst, laziest attempt I've ever had. Completely inedible. My wife had a noodle dish. It was mediocre. We were the only people eating in restaurant. Everyone else who came in were picking up takeout. I have no idea how they stay in business based on the food we tried. read more

Happy China has hands down the best Chinese in town. Unfortunately I don't go to this side of town often but when I do I stop in for a quick bite! Their egg drop and wonton soup is amazing! Warm, hearty and its own flavor compared to other Chinese establishments in the area. We also really love the owner and her kids - they are so sweet. You feel like family. If you have not tried them you're missing out. The food is amazing. Just like I used to get at Mandarin House in Hoover back in the day. Like all restaurants it's gotten pricey but well worth the money. Mongolian Beef is A++++ and so is sesame chicken, crab rangoons and pot stickers. I have had way better! Crab rangoons were nasty and no crab. Rice had a wierd taste and had to pay $1.50 to get onions in shrimp fried rice and hardly any eggs, peas, or carrots. Will not visit again. read more

First off the food was really tasty!! I got the sweet and sour chicken lunch that also had a pork egg roll and the service was really quick! The woman serving us checked in on us but wasn't invasive when we were trying to eat. Overall good experience, the A/C on such a hot day was very comfortable and while i know we were the only customers at the time the place was exceptionally quiet and clean. read more

This is the worst Asian restaurant I've ever eaten at. I ordered sizzling rice soup and crab Rangoon. The soup was BROWN. It also contained random pieces of things I've never seen in sizzling rice soup. It was so salty and disgusting I couldn't even eat it. There was also not one shrimp in it, which I specifically asked about. My friend's beef lo main was so salty she couldn't even eat it. HARD PASS. read more

Average Chinese food from frozen vegetable stock; freshly prepared after order. Prices for lunch specials are lower than any I have seen. Egg rolls seem to be made there as opposed to using frozen ones. You get soup and egg roll with the lunch specials. But, I am not wowed. Happy China is very clean and decorations are not gaudy. This is a good place for lunch and has all the typical fare. I have tried the Hunan beef and the almond chicken. Hunan beef is very sweet and contains a bit of heat. Had the chance to try out Happy China after seeing it with a high percentage of recommendations on *the other major restaurant review site*, and am glad I did. The food is excellent and the portions are extremely generous! The owners/staff that man the place are very polite and the atmosphere, although very "sterile" (not in a negative way, just an observation), is particularly clean for a restaurant. My visit was during dinner time, so my wife and I were pretty much the only souls in the place besides the woman behind the counter and the cook, so I can't say much about the potential frequency in which people visit/eat there. But I *can* say that we'll definitely be going back - the fried rice was wonderful and the Mongolian beef (my dish) was crazy good. It was a bit on the sweet, not savory, side which was a surprise and different, but still great. My wife's dish - sesame chicken - was pretty good too (pretty much what you'd expect though). And their fried wontons were typical but also quite delicious. In fact, the only thing negative I can say about the entire experience was that after having to take so much of the incredible portions home, the sesame chicken did NOT reheat well in the microwave. And if that's the only minus regarding this place, it's somewhere you definitely need to go. So, get over there during your next hankering for quick, inexpensive Chinese - totally worth it. read more

I am picky about my chinese food - restaurants are always hit or miss. Since Formasa in Hoover is closed we tried this one for take out. I have to say I was very impressed. Eggrolls were delicious and cooked perfectly. Sizzling Rice Soup was full of vegetables and meat and also delicious. Dumplings also wonderful. the Chicken Moo Gu Gai Pan was the best I have ever had - honestly! It was ready on time and the order correct (correct orders are my weakness)... and the price was good for all. The indoor dining is closed, but I'm happy to pick up good Chinese food anytime. We have always enjoyed Happy China. The service is great and food excellent. The new renovations make the restaurant cozy and welcoming. The people running Happy China are also the owners and authentic Chinese. They have always greeted us with a smile. The egg rolls are homemade and the food freshly prepared. Another typical Americanized Chinese carry out joint. You can also eat there but you have to order at the counter. Don't expect any real authentic or unique dishes here but they do the standard fare well. I usually get the crab ragoons and Mapo/Szechuan tofu, which is made with beef whereas most places make it with pork. It gives it a different flavor and is excellent. The young couple who run the place are also very nice which makes it nice going to see them on a regular basis. If you live near them and need to pick up some Chinese, you can't go wrong here. read more

I stopped after work to get take-away and ordered the Sesame chicken with pork fried rice and an egg roll. What I got looked like nothing more than left-over sweet and sour chicken pieces thrown in with some left-over sesame chicken and covered in sauce. Anyone who orders sesame and sweet and sour chicken knows they are prepared in different ways. The sweet and sour chicken had a sort of breading whereas the sesame chicken does not. The end result was soggy chunks of chicken which were pretty much inedible. Same situation with the rice. Chunks of white rice mixed in with the prok fried rice. Not very appetizing. I wound up throwing the majoirty of it away and will not eat there again. It was around 7:15 pm and they close at 9:00pm so perhaps they were simply trying to avoid over-cooking. At the very least, I would have expected notifcation if they did not have exactly what I ordered. read more

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant, EVER! The owners are friendly and always smiling. I mostly order take-out, because it is on my route home from work. It never takes more than 10 to 15 minutes for them to have my order ready. They are timely and accurate. I have visited a few times for lunch with family. The atmosphere is pleasant and the resturant is very clean. The food is delicious and fresh. If I could rate Happy China more than 5 stars, I would! I can not say enough positive things about this place. The owners have exceeded my expectations everytime by providing consistent, quality service and yummy food that my entire family enjoys.
