When I called about this, I was told that because I ordered a combo plate featuring pork (#22 B.B.Q Sliced Pork) less pork was in the side, & that when an order of Pork Fried Rice is on its own, there is MUCH pork included. I asked how "less" meant NONE, & added that the reason I ordered the combo was PRECISELY BECAUSE there is NOT much meat in the regular order of PFR in my experience there. PROS Happy China does one thing and does it well: fast and fresh Americanized Chinese food. I got my standard "first order" at a new-to-me Chinese joint: General's Chicken as a lunch combo with crab rangoon. The chicken was crispy and well-sauced, with a good balance of spice that wasn't overpowering. No soggy, overly-breadded nuggets here! The side of fried rice wasn't anything amazing, but it served its role to soak up some extra sauce. The crab rangoons were perfectly crispy with a generous helping of sweet, cheesy filling. The lunch special came with two large rangoons. The price for the lunch special plus a fountain drink came to right at $10 with tip, a good price for a very filling lunch. The service was fast and friendly. CONS If you are looking for someplace classy, this isn't it. There are maybe half-a-dozen tables and booths in what seems to be a "takeaway first" kind of joint. The decor is basic and clean, but come on, it's attached to a gas station! The lunch special came in a plastic takeaway bowl with plastic utensils, and there was an abundance of styrofoam, so a possible improvement would be more eco-friendly container options. SUMMARY If you are looking for a tasty, filling, well-executed version of standard Americanized Chinese food, then Happy China fits the bill wonderfully, as long as you don't mind parking at a gas station to get it. read more

The food was really well prepared and took no time, I had the Veggie Mei Fun and the portions were big, it took my fat ass 3 days to finish it all. My partner didn't have a similar experience, she got the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, and while she liked it, it wasn't her favorite, and it made her a little sick the next day. The crab ragoons, which for my partner and I, we are very picky about. But these one, phenomenal, delicious, 10/10, will be returning solely for that. We prefer sweet over savory crabby ragoons, so if you prefer savory, and you can taste the crab, this isn't the ragoon for you. But for me, it was bomb as hell!! read more

I've been consistently going back to Springfield since then and have Chinese food about every time I come back. I can honestly say that this place is the worst Chinese food I've ever encountered in the entire area. My wife ordered Springfield style cashew chicken and I ordered sweet-and-sour. The chicken was so deep-fried that it came out and it was like rubber. I asked the lady if the chicken was fresh and she said yes we just got it out of this fryer and pointed at the back kitchen. The negative reviews of this place are pretty funny. I noticed most of these people aren't from Springfield and clearly don't know what good Chinese food tastes like. They must be used to whatever passes for Chinese food where they live. Now that I've got that off my chest. Happy China is an amazing Chinese restaurant. The Hot Pepper Chicken is absolutely amazing, and their fried rice is really good as well. The Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon are also some of the best I've ever had. All the food came out so hot and looks good. I tried the hot and sour soup (all time fav) and let me tell u, the best i ever had in springfield! The fried dumplings were Hot and Crispy, sooooo good!!! Next was the lomien, it is a canton noodle that is round and thick with alott of flavor and not soggy and come with fried rice as a combo. Then the Hunan chicken was soft and tenders with mix veggies and come with fried rice. It was very good and tasteful. You can taste the sauces that are well mix and marinated. No way this place has 4.5 stars. If this is almost 5 star Chinese food then I can't imagine what anything less is. Chicken isn't chicken, it's just soft breading that's all melded together into a whole different entity. The rice is bland and the noodles taste like cardboard. As far as that goes, HC has a speedy, effective online ordering site: The menu which allows you to make custom changes to your order such as dish ingredient deletions & spiciness level; order verifications via email with estimated pick-up time to the minute; and a "pay at the restaurant" feature so that we don't have to submit credit card info. Pretty seamless. Delivery is also available. As far as the food, HC is the typical good value in terms of the price/quantity/quality genre. The menu is extensive with many options & variations. Many veggie & vegan options. We started out sampling appetizers such as the Shrimp Rolls, Spring Rolls & an order of Crab Rangoon. All were about "decently average". We like our Rangoon with a lighter shell & not as heavily fried. The filling was ample though. My wife has difficulty finding Moshu Pork in town but they also offer this with a variety of meats. She found it good with light yet sturdy wrappers for the mixture. I had the Hunan Chicken with Black Bean sauce, extra hot which wasn't a scorcher but enjoyable. My sister had the Szechuan Chicken, also extra hot, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My granddaughter had the Chicken Lo Mein with no vegetables. She liked it but found the noodles a tad dry (might be due to opting out of the veggies). None of us could finish our entrée's due to their generous helpings. Is there better Chinese cuisine in town? I enjoyed my first visit to Happy China. I thought the prices were fair, the quality was decent, and the portion sizes were great. I tried the Hot Pepper Chicken (~$8), and it came with a heaping of chicken, vegetables, and choice of fried/white rice (see photo in case you're curious because this one is apparently a crowd favorite). One of the reviews below stated it well, "anyone who's on a budget and nursing a late night craving for Chinese can probably scratch their itch here... but more discerning diners will probably want to look elsewhere." I want to reiterate that the restaurant shares a building with a gas station, so that was a big turn off to folks I had dinner with. They immediately wanted to leave due to the reputation of gas station joints, but I'm glad we at least stayed to give the small mom/pop a try. Their argument was that they just wouldn't feel comfortable bring clients/other team members into a small diner-esque room that seats 20 or so guests, and the food wasn't significantly better than other takeout options we've had in Springfield. read more

Happy China is basically connected to a gas station, but it has its own entrance and is fairly typical for a fast casual Chinese place. It has an expansive menu with plenty of options and lunch specials. I ordered the pork mei fun, which is a thin rice noodle stir fried with roast pork and veggies. It came out quickly on a real plate (not paper or styrofoam) and was a generous portion. Service was quick and friendly. They have fountain soda or bottled sodas and water if you prefer.
