Visited Gailey's today and while the food was incredible, unfortunately had a disappointing experience with our service. Our server, Connor, seemed inattentive, and we waited quite a while for drinks and to place our order. The food was great but we had a hard time tasting it over the smell of his cheap aftershave the few times he did come by to check on us. We also had to ask multiple times for basic things. My wife and I split the Bear Hug - two biscuits and gravy, two eggs and two sides. Simply amazing food taste and quality. I've become sort of a biscuits and gravy snob. Always disappointed but not today! Very moist yet full body. It came with two eggs and two sides for $14. Not sure how they can do all of this for just $14? We also ordered one pancake but had it delivered part way thru the main dish. I used two packs of butter (which they keep plenty on the table at room temp so they melted nicely) on my large pancake. Delicious food at this very popular downtown eatery in a former corner drugstore. Very busy on a Sunday morning (with good reason), so put your party on the wait list through the web site. Building has charming architectural details, too. Prompt ordering, but long wait for food service. I very much enjoyed the Breakfast Bomb (slice of casserole with biscuit crust) that comes with fresh fruit cup. The sausage gravy was superb; edge of casserole was rather burnt. The 4 friends dining with me enjoyed their meals, as well. Delicious coffee. Quite a few alcoholic options, including Breakfast Margaritas. Restroom was not officially accessible - no hand rails, but a chair-height toilet and plenty of room in the single-person space for a wheelchair or rollator. Street parking. June 2024. The food was excellent just not hot, lukewarm and cooling. I was one of the first patrons through the door upon opening, a fact not an excuse. The service was tolerable and the price was good. I've been in the building before so the expansion has created an enjoyable place to eat without sitting on top of other patrons. Place is very nice with paintings and prints all over. Service is great (nod to Shell). I'd go back if in the area but order something else. Had the Florentine eggs and my mistake, I thought it said creamed spinach which I absolutely love in eggs but alas it was plain spinach. That said it is more of a scrambled mix of eggs, a few spinach leaves, lots of onions and a medium amount of tomatoes. I personally thought the eggs were a bit cold and seemed to be pre-made(?) and to me at least too oniony. Home-made potatoes good (but Baby Barney's in Houston is my gold standard) and sourdough bread good. Serving was a bit small. Came here based on another reviewer's coffee recommendation but it wasn't my cup of tea () and was just fine. Wow! What a gem in downtown Springfield! Had a 20minute wait on Saturday morning. Worth it! Got seated at the counter overlooking the kitchen. They were in constant motion! This place was absolutely wonderful! When we got there they were extremely busy but you would have never guessed it with the way the staff was so attentive to each table. We sat next to the kitchen and there was not a moment that the kitchen staff wasn't moving around and working hard to get the food out! All the servers were wonderful and working just as hard as the kitchen. Our servers Destiny and Kaiyah (pretty sure I am spelling that wrong and I am sorry for that) were phenomenal! Our drinks stayed filled and we were kept updated on our food! The food was great! This is a very cute cafe located in the heart of Springfield! Parking is on street, so you might have to walk. The interior of the restaurant is very large and can seat large parties as long as it's not during their rush hour time. This was such a neat old cafe to try out. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Our server, Christina, warned us that she had just started working at Gailey's and she would try not to "mess up", but she did great! She answered our questions and did a great job taking care of us. The food was great, and the prices were good. We came for lunch, but I ordered the "garden" breakfast skillet with my eggs over medium. It had a good mix of veggies. Both the veggies and the eggs were cooked right. It came with two big slices of toast as well. My wife had the chicken tenders with fries. She loved the flavor of the breading, and also loved the waffle fries. I saw they had PBR for $2.75 a pint, so I had to have one. It was neat seeing all ages eating together at such a cool old place. It is like they don't know how to seat people. With a line out the door you should not sit a party of 4 at a table of 6 when there is a table of 5 right behind them - last large table. And I do love the old Gailey's drug store / hotel building. But the place isn't "amazing" by any means...and not for the price. Country Fried Steak: their pre-fab country fried steak itself, tasted ok enough. Certainly no hand ponded out fried steak. The gravy is some doctored up package gravy, that is nothing great at all. Hash browns: Not sure where these things came from - but I could (not) come close to cutting thru these hash browns, (with) the side of my fork. Then, bland and no seasoning. No onions, peppers etc. Eggs: Who screws up eggs? Well, this place didn't come close to "over medium". Today, and the last time I was here (people make me go here; it's not my choice), the eggs have good portions of uncooked egg whites. Cost of the county fried steak, hash browns and two eggs: $15. Really? lol. Chili: I tried the chili, to see what it was like. This was the best thing on this day. I would get that chili again, as it was chunky/hearty and had ok flavor, for what it is and how it looked (when it first came). Flavor profile wasn't too too flavorful...:but hey, considering the other stuff they serve, it was good enough. Conclusion: I would never dare wait in line for this place. Do I go here at times? The old downtown building with high ceilings and bohemian vibes was just was the soul ordered. I didn't feel like I was in Springfield, Missouri when I was eating here. It felt other worldly. With it being in the art district the walls are filled with local art available for purchase. We've gone to Gailey's a number of times over the years. The place is packed on the weekends and we usually have to wait for a table. We went on a Friday this time and were seated right away. The service is good and the staff is friendly. It's in an old building and the decor is a little eclectic. There is a lot of art for sale hanging on the walls. I just wish the food was a little better. It's just okayish and I wish it was a step above. It seems like the kind of place that should have great biscuits and gravy. The gravy is bland and extremely short on meat. My husband ordered the El Jeffe bowl and said the flavor was okay but it was swimming in queso.
