I am in awe of Bernardo and his team. To say they are knowledgeable is an understatement. To say they genuinely care for dogs is an understatement. Bernardo has helped us train both of our dogs, both rescues, and both with their own issues from a previous life. He takes the time to help you and your dog develop a better relationship by teaching you how to employ the right tools for you and your dog. He will go out of his way to ensure this. One of our dogs started pushing boundaries recently, trying to make his way to the van for pickup rather than wait (yeah, he gets THAT excited). Bernardo's been spending extra time to personally work with us until we train out the behavior. I'm so grateful for him. Each of our dogs needs different approaches to training and they're both thriving as a product of his approach. He doesn't employ a blanket method but instead bases training on your dogs needs. Going even further, he's even lent us different tools to try out so we don't waste our money on the wrong thing. Whether it be a type of leash or collar. He even gave us a type of toy to see if it's work to keep them from chewing the couch (and it did, so we bought tons more). This is someone who genuinely loves dogs and wants to see them reach their true potential. Even through the dog walks, he works on training. It's how we were able to work out one of our dogs separation anxiety and build up our other dogs confidence. We also do training sessions. The 1 on 1s are absolutely worth it. I can't say enough good things about Bernardo and his team. We rescued our husky, Benji during covid and were worried about socializing him during these times. From the first intake meeting Bernardo spent almost an hour with us talking about training and really getting to know Benji. Since then, Benji has come back from the pack hikes exhausted and happy. He interacts with dogs in a completely different, mellow way now. Training sessions with Bernardo have also been fantastic. He is so thoughtful and really tailors the sessions and activities for what we need to work on with Benji. He sends us home with special training toys as needed. We call Bernardo the dog-whisperer. Bernardo and his team have been in our lives 6+ years, and they're the absolute best. Since my last review in 2015, we've begun using Happy Dog Service for 1) Overnight boarding, and 2) Behavioral training: 1) Overnight boarding with Bernardo is a breeze. They pick up my pups sometime in the morning (even if I leave in the evening) which means they get a whole day to play outside. It's one less walk to worry about before I jump on a flight! My older dog takes a fistful of complicated heart medications, and I can always depend on Bernardo to give them on time. Such peace of mind when you're far away. 2) Behavioral training: We're fostering a 90 pound German Shepherd that came to us with severe behavioral issues, and we quickly learned the rescue has no resources to support us. Freaking out that this dog was going to be put down, I called Bernardo. He took 30 minutes out of his Saturday to talk us off the ledge, and explained the general training principles. Bernardo then met us for a training session the next morning and gave us exercises to do that have resulted in a very well adjusted and newly confident dog. He refused to let us pay him, and even did another session the next week. Unreal. TL;DR I'm a Happy Dog Service customer for life. They go out of their way to ensure the well-being of your fur babies, and their prices are beyond fair. read more

The service is amazing because they pick her up in the morning and bring her back in the late afternoon/evening so it's like my dog has something to do all day besides laying around the condo. They work on her training with her because I swear my dog has improved so much since she started with Bernardo and Eduardo. And I MUST say, there is no one kinder than Eduardo. He is also so very accommodating. My dog loves them so much that she wakes up and waits for them by the door starting at 7am, even though she does not get picked up until 9am. Happy dog service is the best gift I gave my dog! Twice a week, my husky goes hysterical when he sees Billy; he would go everyday if he could! He comes back relax, I can tell he had a great workout. One of the best things that happened to me/my wife in 2014 was that we were introduced to Bernardo and Happy Dog Service through a random person at the dog park. Up to this point, our English labrador puppy was an absolute handful, chewing everything in sight (and we mean EVERYTHING), and when we would take him to work with us would be a major distraction with him bouncing off the walls. Bernardo has been such a valuable partner in helping us raise Sawyer and we can count on him to always show up, provide a fun yet safe environment for him to play all day, and he is always exhausted when he returns home. It truly feels like Sawyer goes to summer camp three times a week as the team doesn't just take him for a walk but rather provides a full day long experience of activities that combine play/rest/socialization. Bernardo/Eddie both have a way with animals and it is impressive to see how our dog responds to them when they arrive in the morning. We've also used Bernardo to board Sawyer in the past for anywhere from a few days to over a week and we always feel comfortable with him as he is responsible and genuinely loves our dog. One of my favorite things is to see a picture/video from their Instagram of dog's having the best time. Bernardo and his team are a true godsend. I have a tough rescue dog who is great with other dogs but very protective of myself and our house -- making it nearly impossible to have someone come to our house and walk him. When I first reached out to Bernardo, I explained the challenges I was having finding someone to walk my dog and he offered to help - he went above and beyond to make sure my dog was trained and ready to join his crew on a walk. My dog has now been joining the pack for a few years and I have never felt more comfortable or confident that my dog will be safe and have a good time. When I used to send my dog to daycare, I noticed he was just standing around all day looking bored. When Bernardo sends videos my dog is racing around and when he comes home, he is wiped out! Since I found Bernardo on Yelp, I want to make sure I come back here to sing Bernardo's praises. Others have said this in their reviews, but I want to reiterate and emphasize how much of a godsend Bernardo is for so many reasons. He loves our two dogs as if they are his own, and even though the pups can't talk, I know their twice-weekly hikes/Topanga playtimes are the highlights of their weeks, and they probably look forward to weekends we're away because it means extra time with Bernardo! Our pups have been with him for a few months now, but he had a dog in his program for 14 years until that pup passed away a few months ago, which speaks to the loyalty people have for the wonderful service Bernardo provides and the great person Bernardo is. Having two larger dogs (golden retrievers) in a city environment is tough, and I've tried everything - regular dog walkers, doggy daycare, etc - and nothing comes close to the service Bernardo provides. He picks them up at our place (how easy is that??), drop them off at the end of the day, and in between, the pups are expending their energy in a really productive, healthy way. No other option comes close if you have a larger dog for whom other options just aren't enough. Besides the fact that he's great with dogs and our pups love him, I just have to say that Bernardo himself is absolutely wonderful, and I'm so, so grateful we found him when we did. The second day he ever took the dogs out (he's been taking care of our pups for a few months now), he came back and rang the intercom to the building to get access. I had an event that evening and somehow didn't notice my phone going off for his intercom call. He then called and texted many times, and I missed all of these. Any other person would have been 100% rightfully pissed at me (don't forget this was only his second time with our dogs, so it's not like I had even built any goodwill with him at this point!), but Bernardo was so incredibly understanding, and held onto the dogs for a couple more hours (hours!! trust me, I felt TERRIBLE once I realized) until he got in contact with my fiance who was able to let him in. That experience, right from the get-go, made me appreciate him and his incredibly flexible demeanor so much. Though everything has been smooth sailing on our end since, this past week has reminded me how valuable his flexibility can be when things aren't going smoothly. Due to a leak in our home, we've had to move out and have been in two separate hotels in the past week and we're about to move into another apartment for a month while our developers fix everything. While that's been tough, Bernardo was able to take our pups with last-minute notice, and has been taking great care of them since, even dropping off the dogs at the hotel for a few hours the other evening since we missed them so much and wanted to snuggle with them. We keep extending their stay with him because of the delay with securing longer term housing, and again, he's been so flexible, picking up more food when needed. I've hated annoying him every other day with something new this past week as our housing situation has been up in the air, but I can't tell you enough how much it means that he's been so understanding, so flexible, and so caring toward our dogs during this time. Happy dogs has been such a godsend - with pickup, drop off, and amazing outdoor hikes all around LA area, we know that Bamboo is having a great time, getting exercise and living his best life with his friends in the pack. We never worry about bamboos safety (we had issues with Rover, which is more expensive and you never know who you'll get) and he is so happy to leave for his hikes and well exercised, sweet and mellow when he gets home (not nervous and exhausted the way some dogs come home from kennel daycare). Bernardo's calm, confident and kind presence is perfect for any dog (and owner), but especially my ladies who are very sweet, but sensitive. My elder dog Delia is a bit nervous and took to Bernardo quickly... months later I joke that B is her "boyfriend" because she LOVES and is so attached to him- possibly even more than me (and she is a mommy's girl). I have NEVER in my life seen her more excited to get picked up and I think her greatest fear is being left behind, that's how much fun she has. My other dog Olive hated car rides and never wanted to go anywhere. Now when we offer to take them somewhere she is the first to get up and go, that says something! Ramona is my pride and joy, so I would not entrust her in any person's care. Just recently, my poor Ramona had an abscess anal gland and I wasn't able to take her straight to the vet because I had to go to work. Bernardo & Eddie have been walking my little fur baby Lucy for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier! There was a time when I was working from home and didn't use their services as much, and she packed on weight and became sluggish. I've been working with Bernardo and his gang for almost 5 years. I've recommended him too all my friends with incredible confidence because he is, without a doubt, the best in the business. Our dog, a very enthusiastic mini aussi, loves spending the day with Bernardo. We've been working with him since our dog was a puppy. As a small dog, he's developed confidence around bigger dogs but also healthy respect. When we go on off leash trails, our dog will stop and turn around if he gets too far ahead of us. He is super respectful of staying with his crew. While my dog wasn't too challenging, Bernardo has worked with some of my friends' dogs who were much more challenging. He is able to work down intensely aggressive energy to something much healthier and more manageable. Bernardo gets into your dogs head and can really diagnose what it aggravating him or her. Bernardo cheerfully texts back a confirmation. Then, on that day, Eduardo (who is wonderful) comes over to pick up Woodrow, who is overflowing with zeal to start his day with Bernardo and Eduardo, his soulmates. He gets into a big van with his canine pals, and off they go. All day I am comfortable knowing Woodrow is in good hands and am happy for him that he's gallivanting around in the sun, wind in his fur. Occasionally, I'll receive a text photo of their adventures, and I smile and then forward it to everyone. Then, the end of the day rolls around, and Eduardo drops off Woodrow, who inhales his dinner and then sleeps like a log until the next day, when it starts all over again.
