Not only was the staff of Happy Dog Spaw grossly negligent in keeping our pup safe, but they lied to our family about the circumstances leading to his death. On Feb 12 at 1015am, we dropped off Zuko for a bath. Shortly after dropping him off, he somehow got loose and was struck by a car on Bonita Rd. and did not survive his injuries. At 1130, my daughter called to check on his status. After a 5 minute hold, they told her he was going to be another 2 hours. At 100 p.m., I received a call from the owner informing me there had been an accident, and Zuko was at the emergency pet hospital. Sadly, he had been euthanized before I arrived In their words, Zuko escaped a locked crate and out the front door (absurd, right!?). And not once did they call to tell us he had gotten out. The TRUTH. From a post on Next Door, we discovered that a witness from a local church had seen Zuko get hit by a car. And were caring enough to comfort him and take him to the emergency pet hospital. My reactive dog has anxiety and just started his medication last week is terrified of getting groomed. He refused to go inside and i had to carry him in. I took him there with a muzzle because he has bit us several times. I called to check on him and the lady told me that he is being such a good boy and was really happy. I was even surprised that he let them cut his nails without his muzzle on and according to them he was well behaved and no one got bit! His cut was perfect and he seemed happy when i picked him up. Currently sitting in emergency room since I picked up my dog with a huge cut under her arm. When I picked up Coco I first notice the lady holding her so tight. She puts her down to say she's waiting for her co worker to come help cut Coco ears as she's telling me this my dog is gushing with blood onto her counter and hand. I immediately ask what happened and she disregards me with Shes waiting to cut her ears. I grabbed Coco and said this is unacceptable my dog is 15 years old and has never had this problem. Review of the self wash option only. First time we tried a self wash. Tubs and facilities were clean and everything we needed was available. Staff was friendly and explained everything. Max is a Belgian Malinois and 60 lbs of energy. The tub was big and roomy enough for him. It was so much easier to wash him this way, definitely saved some back pain. It was simple and exactly what we needed. Shampoo, conditioner, face soap, ear cleanser, towels and blow dryer were all provided. Definitely will be back again. read more

I Don't recommend this place, they will ruin your dog hair, plus they have a very unprofessional customer service. I Went to get a full service for my 8 month pomerenian dog, it was his first cut, my boyfriend and I EXPLAIN to them that we wanted a full service but to not cut my dogs hair, we show them a picture of EXACTLY what we wanted, basically just a trim. The appointment was at 11 am and they gave us our dog at 4:30pm, they took 5 HOURS for a small dog. They were not done and the guy at the register was charging us already, we told him that we wanted to see our dog first. My Poor baby looked horrible, his hair was all messed up, and we told the hairstylist that that's not what we asked for and she blamed us, she said that we should of ask the guy to take a picture of what we wanted, so basically she was asking us to do their job. DO NOT GO HERE! I had been coming here the last year and they didn't do the best job but I let it go...it was close to home and wasn't too big of a deal. They left my maltipoo looking like a full on poodle each time. But this last time I took him in at 11am and they're usually done by 3 but this time he wasn't finished until 8pm! They kept saying 30 minutes since 530 and didn't finish til 8. And when he came out he was completely botched...he cane out bald almost they completely ruined him. They kept my dog for seven hours and that's not the first time the other time I took my dog it took 8 hours. I've never heard of a grooming place keep a dog for 8 hours in a little cage with no food or water. I've been bringing my little Yorkie since they opened in 2018, and they have ALWAYS taken good care of my baby. They are loving to all pets that are left for grooming. I've witnessed it! They always take note of my grooming requests. I trust this place so much that I've asked Sussie, the manager, to take care of my baby girl when I go on vacations, I receive videos of Suri from Sussie. WORST PLACE!!! I dropped my dog off at 11:15am for a 11:30am appointment. I had a quick conversation with a groomer at the salon regarding how I wanted my dogs grooming to look, afterwards I left and went on with my morning. I called at 1:36pm asking when my dog will be done, whoever I spoke to on the phone replied that the groomer working on my dog got to work late and is starting on their first dog for the day and my dog would be worked on afterwards. I immediately told them I am on my way to pick my dog up, I was disappointed how my dog hasn't been worked on at all since the 11:15am drop off. When arriving to the salon I was greeted with a $40 bath and nail trimming bill. I was told on the phone no work had been completed on him, I was confused and asked to speak to someone else. I demanded to see my dog to decide whether the $40 bill was reasonable they demanded that I MUST pay before seeing my dog or they would take me to court and keep my dog!!!!! After telling them I would pay only for things that were done and shown proof that the service was done. On groomer went to the back to grab him and from the window view near the baths I saw the same groomer beginning to trim his nails and brush his hair!!! I tapped on the window and told her to stop doing what she was doing. He looks exactly the same as I dropped him off. Very rude last time I was there there was 2 little old lady's cussing in Spanish. They leave dogs locked up in cages for hours telling you to come back cause they need more time. This ain't no spa. This review should actually have no stars. We would like to share Zuko's story in hopes that no one ever has to experience what our family has in losing our Zuko under the care of Happy Dog Spa. On Sunday morning, Feb 12th, Zuko was dropped off for his grooming apt at 1015am. We called after 1130am to confirm pick up and was told he was not ready and it would be another 2 hours. Good samaritans near by on Bonita Rd saw Zuko get hit by a car and took care of him. How did this happen to our Zuko? Why was he not at Happy Dog and Spaw? The owner of Happy Dog did not contact my husband until hours later regarding Zuko's whereabouts and had the audacity to see if my husband wanted one of her rescues and sent us a plant for her remorse!! The level of emotional distress and heartbreak they have caused our family is unimaginable. Zuko was only to get groomed and come home, but he ended up killed that day. We did not get to bring him home. We will not get to see his happy self everyday. We were cheated in losing him so senselessly. We filed a formal complaint to the BBB and informed the City of Chula Vista as well where this business holds their license. At first the place wasn't so bad but as time went on the service we received and time management completely derailed. We would be told a timeframe of 2 hours and 5+ hours later we would still have no call back saying the dog is ready so we instead would call them asking for an update only to be told that either they were ready or they would need more time. Usually 1 hour plus. Now this last time was the worst. We took our two dogs in (boxer and pit bull mix) and when we picked them up later that day, I noticed my boxers ear bleeding with a gash in it. I confronted the store and asked what had happened only to be lied to about it and say they didn't know until I pressed the issue. Only then did they say, "ohhhh, he ran into a rack and the shampoo bottles fell onto his head." I was furious because the gash on his ear couldn't have happened with shampoo bottles falling. And also to be lied to about it didn't sit well. I should have canceled my appointment when I dropped them off because when I did, my dogs were scared and began to whine causing a scene in which was odd because they never do. The front ended up calling a groomer from the back, I didnt get his name, but he was a big guy. Definitely over 6 foot and 250 lbs. His size wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that he was so frustrated having to take my dogs to the back. The way a picked them up and held them so tight with a mean mug absolutely did not sit right with me. But still I let them finish the appointment. We came here for the self wash and we were VERY IMPRESSED! We've tried other self wash places and this establishment just blows all the other places right out of the park. Well my first review of this place was awesome, my pup had a day at the spa, I got to run errands and then picked him up around 7pm, it was almost like having a dog sitter for the day. The first time I went we were charged $80 for a full service, then it went up to $100, and this last time I was told it was going to be $120. Since I'm spending that much money my expectation have raised substantially and the quality is just not adding up. The cuts are uneven and he has patches that are just clearly longer. We were specific about how we wanted his head shaped and we did not get that either. Because the prices have kept going up for the services, your tip at the end has vanished. Suggestion for the business: -Lower your prices back down to a manageable amount to correlate with expectations. -Tighten up on quality and really pay attention to final product, not just getting the job done. There are a lot of dog service locations around, we can find another if we need to. -Post accurate prices at the store, don't just look at the dog then spitball some number. HORRIBLE PLEASE READ Brought in my dog this last Sunday for full grooming. Left him there at 1:00pm and picked him up at 10:20pm WTF! I don't understand why they take on so many dogs at once. No actually I do: money. All they want is your money so they'll take as many dogs as possible and have your dogs sitting there just waiting. Next part: When we picked up my dog he was crying. Although he usually cries in the car, he was crying out of pain. His eyes were swollen and he couldn't even see! We called the following day and this lady was telling us to give him benadryl for an unknown pain. Why on earth would I give my dog a medication thats very strong for a pain that I'm not sure whats causing it? This lady isnt a vet so of course we didnt listen! We took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with an ulcer. Fortunately we bought all his medications and hopefully he will be able to heal properly. The vet told us it might have been an allergic reaction to perfume and he scratched himself OR that they accidentally cut him with scissors or the machine they use for shaving. We called the owner to tell her about this and instead of admitting a mistake might've been made she has the audacity of getting mad and going on about her stupid liability papers. I advise anyone who TRULY cares about their precious pets to avoid this place at all costs because this lady has her ass protected. My dog got an eye ulcer after bringing him here. This was just after taking him to the vet where he was declared healthy for a dog his age. The ulcer was caused by a nick to his eyes. Only one eye developed an ulcer, the other one got infected. Unfortunately anybody in California can open a Grooming business without a license or certification. If your pet has been injured by these people and they deny it, just report it to Better Business Bureau. read more

I arrived today with dog in tow only to find out that inside the store, their sign says $20 and $25 for large breeds (I have a large dog). That's quite the jump in price! And why does it matter what size the dog is? It's "SELF WASH". I'd be doing it myself, no employee would be inconvenienced or challenged by my dogs size. Disappointed. My dog will no longer be coming here. First few times I brought Behr I was quite satisfied. Unfortunately the last 4 times I've had issues. This last time he was finished at 10PM after being left at 11AM. That is completely unacceptable on top of that he had cuts which he had also had one other time but we weren't sure if they were from the groomers since or he had gotten into something. After the last visit we were convinced. He was not provided with water because as soon as he got home we had to refill his bowl twice! Subsequently his grooming price continue to go up in price every visit. Wouldn't have mattered if we'd been satisfied but that was not the case. This is too bad because the staff appeared quite nice. *Footnote- Behr is an indoor dog, yes he goes out but usually does his business and comes back in. He is extremely well cared for (he is after all a $1200 labradoodle..) His vet knows him well and has never had any issues. So I took my dog here one time and it was great. made a second appointment three months out which was today 6/9/2024. well this time went horribly different. my appointment was for 9:30am. even go there early 9:15. now experiencing from the first time the appointment was only two hours long. me thinking ok i should get a call by 11:30. Well 10, 15 minutes later and no call. so I call to ask for a status. was told it would be anoth hour because waiting to get trimmed. a hour later goes by and still no call. so I decided to go and find out. I walked in and can hear my dog high pitch barking. waited till som came to the counter and asked what is going on with my dog to be told they are still waiting for a groomer to come and will be another 30 to 40 minute. I said no not waitin. was charged 55 dollars for a basic wash and nail clipping. if you know you have booked a full groo for 9:30am maybe make sure you have the person to do it. my dog was locked up in a kennel for hours with no water and had to go to the bathroom and the staff did do anything. Review for the self wash only. My cocker spaniel was in need of a good wash in between grooming and I decided to try this place out. I have tried unleashed by Petco on H street and it was absolutely horrible. Watered down shampoo, NO DRYER and they only provide you two thin towels. The staff at Happy Dog Spaw was friendly, the tubs are a good size and they provide shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaner as well as face shampoo. Plus, the dryer has attachments! My baby's coat is a bit thick because of winter so it took a bit longer to dry him up properly but I was not rushed. The price is great for what you get compared to unleashed! I took my poodle yesterday named Peachy to get his first haircut after he was unfortunately attacked by coyotes in Bonita, he was very matted dirty and had shave marks where his stitches were. I wanted to try a different dog groomers, just to open my options more and I thought this place would be great. Turns out I was wrong, my mom and I dropped off our dog today around noon time and right now it's approximately 9:00pm and they still aren't done grooming my dog, they also just started at 8:30pm, OUTRAGEOUS! Their hours say they close at 6:00pm, but why is it taking them so long to finish. I understand that we are in the midst of a global pandemic at the moment, but I still feel that one's company should try -- at most to finish within a decent amount of time especially with a groom, it shouldn't take more than 5 hours.. the most I have to wait is AT MOST 3 hours. Would leave 0 stars if I could. Don't take your dogs here, the staff is incredibly incompetent and they don't pay attention to dogs with skin sensitive issues. We have been loyal customers for years now and we have had several instances where our dogs come back with infections, cuts and even one time with cotton stuck in their ears that it developed into a serious infection. We took our dogs this past weekend to get groomed and my dog came back with cuts all over his groin and completely cut off nipple and is now developing into an infection. His skin is so red and sensitive he won't even let us touch him. As much as I like giving the benefit of the doubt too many things like this keep happening. The worst part is that we specifically asked them to not do any sanitary cleaning and to stay as far as away from our pups groin since he's very sensitive. It seems like they just say yea uhuh okay to everything and do whatever they want. I'm furious and expect compensation and for them to pay for my pups veterinary care. I'm not one to write reviews but this has my blood boiling. And from the looks of the most recent reviews it seems like this has been a repeated pattern and they stilllll choose not to do shit about it.
