My initial assessment of this eatery on wheels was American fast food with an international twist. When I approached the truck, I saw the menu. And right then and there, my heart, mind, and stomach wanted the kim chi fries. I have four words to describe the fries: crispy, tangy, meaty, and tasty. Got Uber Eats from this food truck last night and it was decent but not amazing. So I got the BDL Hot Dog as well as an order of Queso Kimchi Fries for my order. The hot dog was pretty decent, so I was happy with that part of the order, but I've definitely had better elsewhere. And the queso kimchi fries were OK at best - I don't think the queso went well with the rest of the ingredients. Something like a spicy mayo would have been way better. This will definitely be my first and last time ordering food from here. Unfortunately, I ordered the bulgogi baos through Ubereats along with two pork baos. I do love pork boas thus the two stars as they were appropriately hot but nothing special. I mean, I've never really had a special bbq pork bao to be honest so.....cheers, two stars. The beef baos, however, were no good. Bu hao, which is Mandarin for "no good". It ended up being dry, flavorless meat on the traditional and soft bao dough. No delightful greenery on top. 3.5 stars. I checked out Happy Endings at the Japanese Festival and who doesn't like a happy ending? Unfortunate choice of a name for this food truck. Tell your girlfriend that you just came home from and you had some happy endings and see how that works out for you! The menu offers a little less variety than you usually have from a food truck. The majority of the menu consists of hot dogs. Other than that, they have kimchi fries, two types of baos, a BBQ pork bun, and pork dumplings. But they do hot dogs well. They're a good size and grilled well. The bread is toasted too. And they use some creative toppings. Mine came with bacon bits and cream cheese. Yup! Cream cheese on a hot dog. That was definitely a first for me but it worked. I also had the dumplings which come at 5 for $5. The dumplings are fried and they don't come with a dipping sauce. Happy endings was one of the food truck vendors at the color run event. I noticed a lot of ppl wasn't comfortable in the fusion zone, ordered their hotdogs, burgers, & fries plain Jane. I only saw one order of the Kim chi fries. Which I also ordered. It was eh. Honestly, I could've fried me some fries or get fast food fries & just throw chopped Kim chi on there. Well, it was just OK! I'm not going to follow this truck on twitter and track it down when the craving hits (a craving probably won't hit, I'm just saying). This truck was booked for our company festival at a park in Katy. I don't know about prices and the whole nine so this review is based solely on the taste of the food, no value taken into consideration. I'm a connoisseur of a fair amount of different Asian cuisine but have never tried baos. They have been on my radar for a while so I chose the pork baos and threw in a zen dog because why not, company dime. The zen dog consists of cream cheese, green onions and bacon. It was hard deciding between the dogs because frankly none of them sounded that good. It was pretty interesting fare, I'd say. The dog was edible but the actual meat tasted a bit overcooked a smidgen. I don't think I'm going to be a fan of the baos, kinda taste like under cooked dough but the filling was more tasty than I'd expected and came with green onions and sesame seeds. It's not the best food, I probably won't have it again if I had a choice but its worth a try. My coworker tried the egg rolls and she really liked them...maybe worth a try! read more

I love Happy Endings! I visited this food truck a few too many times when it came to serve lunch at UH. I always ordered the deep fried pork bun and the Shanghai egg rolls. Get these things and your meal can never go wrong. Usually when I find something I like, I stick to it and I don't explore the rest of the menu. But I have tried other food here. I'm not a fan of their kimchi fries because I don't like kimchi to start with and I thought their fries were rather thin and limp. I used to order hot dogs. I like their Zen dog that is topped with cream cheese, bacon bits and green onion. Usually the hot dogs are big and juicy. It was once shriveled and slightly burnt. That was a sad part of my meal that day. I love their bao bread. I wouldn't think it's easy to mess up bao bread, but other places I've tried have messed up the bao. I've always had perfect bao here. So try their taco baos! They're definitely on point! Service was absolutely wonderful. I've never received such consistent pleasant service from any other food truck I've eaten from. I can't forget the few acts of kindness they have shown me. One employee offered and saran wrapped my food from this food truck and Kurbside Eatz because she saw I had so much to carry. It was a very busy day for them, but she still took the time out to help me. Super nice! One time I realized I forgot my wallet at home after I placed my order. I told the employee who took my order that I couldn't pay for my food. As I walked away, sad, hungry, and embarrassed, she shouted out my name. I assume she remembered my name because I frequented this food truck. She told me that they would make the food for me and that I could pay later. It was a generous of them to do so. This really made a difference to me because I hadn't eaten breakfast that morning, I had class until 5, I couldn't drive home, and most of my friends who would let me borrow money had already left campus. Of course, I came back the next time they were at UH and paid them back. My last visit left me on a bit of a sour note though. I placed my usual order of the deep fried pork bun and egg rolls. But I only got 5 egg rolls, instead of the usual 10 I receive every other time I've ordered the egg rolls. I asked the employee who gave me my food why there were only 5, and he said it was customary that there were always 5 egg rolls in one order. I don't know if that was a one time thing or they changed their policy of egg roll quantity per order. I haven't been back since because I graduated from UH and moved to another city. Ah yes, another Asian fusion truck to help combat those 2012 diet goals. My friend Anh took me here after a night of Truck hopping (Please check out her review!). I'm a picky eater when it comes to stuff I cant pronounce, bonito flakes? Happy Endings Truck is a family owned business, and you really get the sense that they really care about what they do. The staff always remembers us a makes a comment about my friends red rental car. But I haven't gotten to the food yet. It rocks! The buns remind me of Hawaiian bread and have a soft sweet taste to them. The Hot dogs are big in meaty (Freudian minds hush!) and you really get a sense of quality with the food. I ordered the Geisha, with spicy mayo and bonito flakes. To this day I have no idea what bonito flakes are, but I now have a desire to put them on everything. They sort of taste like bacon, but with out all the grease, it's a smokey flavor that really brings together the taste of the Hot Dog. I also want to recommend the egg roles. I don't know what they do to them, but their egg rolls are the best in town. They're small which makes them easy to share, and they give you enough to make it a meal or induldge with your hot dog. My only complaint about this place is they don't serve drinks. This might be the bars policy, but it's enough to keep them at 4 stars. Sampled the food here while it was outside of liberty station and was pleasantly surprised! In the endless sea of Houston food trucks, it's difficult to stand out. First I though, another Korean or Asian themes truck? Ugh, that's not so unique. But then I tried the food and WOW it was quite good! The big shrimpin' taco like thingy was so good! They are small, I recommend you choose two of those tacos. Or one plus a side of some sort. It was a very soft Asian style bun in place of a typical taco tortilla- very pillowy and light. It brightened up and perfectly balanced the fried shrimp inside the taco. Some cilantro and a sweet sauce inside and I was on heaven! The shanghai egg rolls were also very good, 5 mini rolls per order, but again, the sauce served on the side was the real winner, otherwise it was like a typical mini egg roll. Very tasty. What I noticed was for fried foods, it wasn't overly greasy or heavy. I didn't feel like I had sinned by eating a fried taco and egg rolls hahaha. They were very fast, which was awesome. Didn't feel like eating the food I made and this food truck was close to where I was so I decided to try it out after looking at the menu. I always like to try new things and the BDL definitely did look different. For being a food truck the food did take a little long to come out but after I bit into it i decided it was worth the wait. I thought the price was high but, once again, after I got the dog I decided it was worth the price. There was a lot going on with this hot dog with all the different ingredients piled high, almost overflowing over the little container it was in. After my first bite I realized this was that type of hot dog I would totally enjoy. All the flavors worked well together and the hot dog was one of the kind you get a football game. Hmmm 3.5 but I rounded up. It was a little hard to decide which dog to get. I'm not a huge fan of kim chi (except Korean Noodle House's kim chi) so I ruled out the BDL. I ended up wanting the Maui Wowi burger but they ran out so I opted for the hotdog instead. Maui Wowi consists of melted cheddar cheese and pineapples. The pineapples made it the deciding factor for me. The flavors blended really well together between the saltiness of the hotdog, sweetness of the pineapples, melted goodness of cheese, and softness of the bun. By the way that bun is like no regular bun, it actually is kind of sweet and waaaay better than the store kind. The price was $6 and surprisingly was very filling for me during lunch. The hotdog was *insert sexual innuendo* a bigger than normal size. Service did not take too long and they don't charge a fee for using credit cards. I go to check these guys out at the Art Museum parking lot. It's great that they can rotate daily. I had the Geisha burger with kimchi fries. I was not impressed with either item, as the geisha burger was just flat to me, nothing that blew me away, and the kimchi fries were unmemorable. At this point this review was looking like a 2 star at best, but before I left the truck, he asked if I liked pork buns? I was like yeah! He said they have a deep fried variety! I went and added in that order, and I was sure glad I gave that last thing a try. It was the best thing on their menu, yet it's the least pushed item. Well after a year's absence, I decided to try Happy Endings again since I noticed they had falafel baos on the menu. Now I'm not a gua bao expert since I've only had it in conjunction with peking duck back in the 90s but I certainly enjoy a good falafel. The falafel baos just came with cucumbers and garlic sauce; traditional fare. They seem somewhat pricy at 2 for $7 for the amount of food you get but again I'm not an expert at bao prices. Tasted fine although it could use some spice and maybe some roughage. Hmmn kimchi might make a good topping then. When I ordered the baos, the owner chef notified me that he carried tofu franks now since my last review had bemoaned the tofu slices. He insisted that I try one on the house, and it was delicious. It had a crumbly venison-like taste that seemed like something I've had before at moon tower. If it wasn't for the lack of grease, I would've been wondering if I was eating meat. I had the hot dog Kelly style with avocado and potato chips. Since the frank had no grease, this was a dry combination but I had plenty of beer to fix that. I will try the tofu dog with some wet toppings in the future. I was really impressed that the owners listened to feedback from their customers and made improvements in the face of criticism. I have no hesitation on eating with Happy Endings again but it's going to take some experimentation before I find the perfect combo of flavours. read more

Yeah, you read that right: Asian fusion hot dogs. Guaranteed to satisfy! Happy Endings offers a variety of toppings on its 100% all-beef hot dogs, which start at $6. The price is slightly steep, especially when you consider that for the partially ravenous, one hot dog simply might not be enough to fill you up. I tried the Geisha, noted by Happy Endings as their best-selling. The toppings are actually rather simplistic rather than over-the-top ornate, which is good or bad depending on your preference. The Geisha came with spicy mayo and katsu sauce, topped by bonito flakes. For haute food critics everywhere, bonito flakes is the new pork belly is the new black. For Asians like me who grew up eating bonito flakes on raw tofu or pork belly stewed in soy sauce, I'm a bit perplexed. The hot dog was all-juicy, all-delicious, and all-huge (that's what she said). The bun skews sweet, tasting like those Hawaiian rolls you buy whenever they're discounted at the supermarket. I was skeptical about the bonito, but the sweet-salty tingling sensation on my tongue was wonderful. By the way, other toppings include such diverse toppings as cream cheese, kimchi, bacon, and spicy cucumbers. A mix-and-match dog costs $8; I assume you could just ask for everything and stuff it all in. Happy Endings also offers a few side dishes: teriyaki chicken lollipops, fried mini Vietnamese eggrolls, and char siu bao (BBQ pork buns). These guys catered my husband and I's wedding reception! And I couldn't be more pleased. We originally met up with Happy Endings at Liberty Station to try some food and discuss business with them. Emil and Ryan were friendly and very informative when we asked them how everything would go when they got to our reception location. The pricing for catering our wedding was fantastic in comparison to other 'normal' catering choices we saw--plus it was super unique and fun. My husband and I originally chose Happy Endings as our caterer because we wanted something with an Asian flare that wasn't too crazy (our family members are not as much into Asian cuisines as we are), so this was a fantastic compromise. We got to choose three hotdogs (queso, tsunami and BDL), and two taco baos (pork and chicken). All appetizers were included in the catering contract. After signing the contract and giving them the number of guests and menu choices, all we had to do was sit back and wait for the big day. They were so relaxed and fun to work with, and were very flexible with our ever changing guest numbers. Once we actually got to the wedding reception, there they were, completely set up and ready for our crowd of over 100+ people. They ticketed all orders so that you have an accurate count at the end of the event and pay accordingly (we actually paid less than what we originally planned thanks to this method). My only complaint about having them as a caterer was that they weren't super quick at getting orders out, many guests had to wait around for 10 minutes or so to get food. But that's not completely their fault. We did not have assigned seating, and a food truck does a whole lot better with large crowds if you can stagger the amount of people. As mentioned, we didn't have assigned seating, so doing so was almost impossible. In the end, however, all guests were well fed and enjoyed the food! Many people were super impressed at having a food truck cater the wedding and we received so many compliments! A newish food truck around town. There seems to be an endless sea of them in Houston, which is not a bad thing at all. I was able to sample some of Happy Endings fair outside of D&T Drive Inn. The service is great. Everyone that works here seems to be very enthusiastic about their products, and are very willing to make suggestions. I went with the BDL Dog. A hot dog with cream cheese, kimchi, Japonese mayo, bacon and green onions. After a tip, they added some shrimp taco baos. Which was very unexpected, and a great gesture. They have plenty of other toppings for the dog as well. I need to try it with the wasabi mayo, seaweed, and teriyaki sauce next time. The dog was very good, and the homemade sweet Hawaiian bun was great. The taco was served on a steamed bun, also homemade, and a treat. Yep, I am a fan. Being raised by Filipino parents in the US, I'm a very huge fan of Asian fusion! (Who doesn't love having egg rolls alongside a turkey during Thanksgiving?) The Happy Endings food truck happened to be at Boheme a few nights ago, and we were hankering for a snack to go with our beverages. So, we ordered the French fries with spicy horseradish dip and sirachia sauce. They were a huge hit at our table. And, the Shanghai egg rolls were also a big hit too! Love this place!!! Its been a while since i've been to a food truck since alot of my favorite ones have become brick and mortar places. Luckily enough my new apt invites various food trucks once a week. This place is awesome. The shrimp bao was amazing and the ribeye bao was well seasoned. Loved also their kimchi fries. You can find them at BoConcepts on Monday for lunch and I believe by Drinkery on Friday/Saturday nights? My coworker is a good friend of the owner so she brought back a variety of their hot dogs. I believe I got the Tsunami. Jumbo sized hot dog topped with seaweed is not something I would honestly die to try, but hey it's free food....who am I to pass up on that? One bite and I was sold. Seaweed texture is weird at first but once that wasabi mayo touched my tongue.. my tastebuds soared into excitement and ecstacy and I finished it in a matter of minutes. I decided that I do like the seaweed becuase it adds a balance to everything. I can't really go into detail since there's really not much to it. It's really their wasabi mayo that will keep me coming back for more. If you're not a big fan of wasabi, fear not, the taste isn't that strong...just a hint! The right amount to give you a light kick and really add taste to the hot dog! IT'S NOT THAT GOOD. I had the BDL dog which is a big, fat, juicy sausage (only good part) atop a squishy white bread bun sprinkled with COLD kim chi. It's a weird experience eating the hot sausage with a cold topping. It's different when it's relish.. but kim chi? IDK! No me gusta. Definitely looks better than it tastes. However, 2 freakn small buns with what looks like to be less than an ounce of ground meat cost 7 dollars. I literally ate it in less than a minute. Definitely Different..... Never ever would I have put cream cheese, bacon, Sriracha, and a Hawaiian bun... This was not something I would have ever thought worked, but it did. Sriracha is my new ranch dressing...I will put it on EVERYTHING and anything.... Damn good dog. My friend tried the one with avocado and crushed up chips, also delish! but noisy. The hot dog itself was JUICY, and perfect with a nice cold St. Arnolds. We split a side of fries, which had scallops, and spicy may (I think) and MORE SRRACHA (word of the day!) Of all the food trucks my boyfriend and I have followed, this is my favorite by far! This isn't your ordinary dog slathered with your normal condiments such as ketchup or mustard... especially when it comes to their bread. Although my personal favorite is the pretzel bun, they've won me over. I absolutely LOVE their fresh-daily-home-baked Hawaiian bread... definitely adds a little bit of something-something to keep me coming back! I attempt to convince myself to try something different every visit, but I can never bring myself to depart from the 'Geisha' dog. The combination of the all-beef Japanese sausage, wasabi mayo and crispy-smokiness from the thin bonito flakes in my opinion, is what sets this winner apart from the others (not to mention it's fun watching the delicate bonito flakes dance around on top due to the heat from the dog). The wasabi mayo isn't enough to make your eyes water, but it's enough to give you a taste. For me, I'd say bring it on and add more wasabi! My boyfriend's favorite is the Kelly Dog. What's funny is that in all the sandwiches he makes, his secret ingredient is potato chips. So I guess it's not a surprise that this is one of his favorites. It may sound a bit odd, or at least it did to me at first, but the combination of avocado and crushed potato chips is genius! With the Kelly dog, you'll taste the sensation of the cool creaminess from the avocado married with the crunchy texture of the salted potato chips. It's a crunch that will guarantee to keep you wanting more. Along with our dogs, we always get a side of potato wedges that's lightly sprinkled with Japanese seasonings. Upon request, they'll sauce it up and squeeze mayo on top with a secret weapon my friend came up with.... ketchup mixed with sriracha! Alright, it's not a new concept for some of you. Our company catered Happy Endings for an event. I definitely appreciate the idea of fast asian with a western twist. However, with serving 45+ people, the service was mediocre to slow. After waiting in line for 20 minutes behind 10 people, there was an additional 10 minute wait for my actual food. I ordered two healthy servings of the Kimchi fries. Though, it was certainly an interesting concept, the combination of sour kimchi, spicy mayo, and hot fries didn't quite jive with my taste buds. The sour and spicy could have definitely used some sweet to calm it down. Overall, a good idea (that has already been employed by many other food trucks). Generally fine for apatite, no problems with the food in fact interesting combinations with the hot dogs, and th e bao tacos. From what I see, majority order the -fried gao bao -maowi wowi dog -the chicken bao tacos But it's fine for all those foodies in the University district looking for a bite to eat. This is the first time I tried an Asian fusion hotdog and I was hooked. I've never dreamt of slapping an all-american food with some asian style. It's usually the other way around. Just look at Chinese food. Hehe. Now getting back to the review. I was already coming from a buffet place when my friend invited me to also try this new hotdog out. At first, I was like I was already stuffed, but what ta heck, I'll give it a try. I tried the Gesha hotdog. Man I was hooked! I felt like I was eating a super sushi hot dog with all the wasabi and bonito flakes in it. I started to look for the soy sauce to dip it in. The flavors blends in very well. I looove hot dogs!! Especially hot dogs with crazy, weird toppings you would never think of eating it with. Needless to say, when I had the opportunity to check this food truck out I was thrilled. I tried both the Zen and BDL hot dogs and they were both delightful! The Zen hot dog was my favorite and is topped with cream cheese, bacon bits, and green onions- sounds weird and a little bit of overkill to top a beef hot dog with bacon but it was soooo GOOD!!! Who would have thought that all those random toppings would make such a delicious hot dog! The BLD dog is topped with cream cheese, kimchi, Japanese mayo, spicy mayo, green onions, and bacon bits- it was good but had way too many toppings to actually appreciate the tastiness of their beef hot dog. The hot dog itself was a good size and juicy- they definitely didn't skimp on that. After 2 hot dogs I was STUFFED! I definitely need to make room next time and try their kimchi fries cause they looked delicious. Can't wait til next time! read more

Can't see what is fusion about it. I was relatively disappointing as usually I expect some kind of mix of spices or seasonings from opposite sides of the world or a clashing of some kind of cultural preparation. Just because someone throws some kimchi on a western style dish doesn't necessarily mean you can stick a "K" in front of said cuisine and then call it fusion. I give them credit for the kimchi queso. It was pleasantly surprising. Taco Baos aren't that great. I had expected Mexican style beef filler inside a traditional Chinese steamed bun. What I got was a mangled to look like a taco char sew bao. Maybe things will get better as they hone their skills...till then. read more
