The name sounds hokey. The establishment appears to be Chinese owned. It delivers through Seamlesss. I have never physically been to the location where the food is made. They could be doing all sorts of shady stuff. But I don't even care. Five stars. Why? I'll tell you why: Value....AND quality. $6 to $7 burritos with Chorizo or fragrant grilled chicken or shrimp or fish, with none of that BULL SHIT "add guacamole" or "add sour cream" or "add cheese" or "add beans and rice"...it's ALL THERE, as are heaps of fresh shredded iceberg lettuce, tomato cut into manageable slivers, and onions, all rolled into a package as big as a football and three times as heavy. The chili cheese fries are also probably something no one should eat after age 17, but are guaranteed to deliver that "I could just cry" feeling to any grown up out there. I haven't tried their combos yet, because frankly, the menu options are just overwhelming. There's always one thing in the trio that just doesn't go with the other, or that you don't want whatsoever. But again, it does not matter. To get a single-digit costing, king-portioned, all-inclusive burrito that tastes like stuff you can get just about anywhere up and down the whole West Coast BUT NOT HERE is no small discovery. A perfect place to stop in to grab some good Mexican food. Everything on the menu here is very reasonably priced. They have a ton of lunch special so everyone can find something they like. The lunch special run until 4pm which is really nice if you are like myself and often eat a late lunch. I stopped in here for a quick bite and ordered a chicken quesadilla and a steak quesadilla. With a bottle of water the total was $10. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It wasn't too dry and had a good moistness and flavor. I really like that thy don't skimp on portion size here. The quesadilla had a goo amount of chicken and cheese on it. To be honest I only needed to order one but was expecting a lot less then I received. I was very impressed with the taste if the steak quesadilla. Places like this have a tendency to overcook the steak or just use meat that is too fatty. This steak was very thin, moist, and flavorful I couldn't ask for much more. Each was served with a small side of salas which I threw on there for good measure. I you are looking for authentic Mexican this may not be the place for you as it seemed like it was owned and run by non Mexicans. However the foo was awesome so for me this is not a big deal at all as long as they can whip up some good food I'm in. Just be aware that they have a $10 minimum for credit cards. I had a chicken burrito that was ok. This place is Chinese owned and operated. As if you couldn't tell by the train of adjectives in the title. Call me racist but I like my tex-mex to be made by Mexicans(or the hard-working hipsters of Dos Toros). Here you have all the same ingredients yet something seems wrong about it. For example, the shredded cheddar doesn't seem to have the ability to melt. Let's not get into the frijoles or guaca-paste. Chew your food carefully and remain alert. Something questionable is bound to enter your mouth during this meal. I had a bone pop out of the exclusively dark meat chicken burrito. Not that this doesn't happen at a more traditional taco stand. It's not a meal ruiner but you'd best be on the lookout. Their hot sauce is clever. I'll give them that. It's chunky and seems to be a blend of sweet and sour with the chunky pepper paste that you get with dumplings. It had some trouble making it out of the tip of the bottle. Another thing is that they didn't even attempt to wrap the tortilla in burrito fashion. Instead the just hand you a giant soft shell taco. I must be a glutton for punishment. This place serves terrible Mexican food because the Chinese staff don't know how to make it. However I live near and was craving hot wings. I noticed on their window a poster for hot wings. Should I give them another shot? Dear Happy Fresh Owner: When we say "hot wings" in this country, it doesn't simply mean we throw chicken wings in hot oil. You need to actually add some flavoring. Heat as in spices/sauce. Also, the celery is meant to be a cold, crunchy contrast. When you steam them floppy, they aren't fun to dip. As for your dressing, I'm not sure if it was ranch or blue cheese or some other compound licensed from DuPont, but I really can't complain because it couldn't possibly alter the no-flavor wings and floppy steamed celery. I've been on the hunt for decent tofu tacos since my beloved Eclipse closed down. I saw Happy Fresh on Seamless one hungry night and thought, "Why not?" When the tacos arrived, there were strips of panko-fried tofu and cheese inside a weird, thick wheat tortilla. I was initially put off by the non-authenticity of it, but it also wasn't bad when I dumped some salsa on it. The Chinese-style vegetables were weird, but not bad. The guacamole was terrible, lacking cilantro, onion, salt, and possibly avocado (it's green, but more like a 70s "avocado" colored appliance than an actual avocado). I thought it had been an interesting experiment and left it at that. But the menu remained in my kitchen. A week later, the hubs and I were ordering it again, minus the guacamole. I went for the tofu tacos again and he ordered a vegetable Mexican pizza. It was some kind of dough layered with a lot of tomato sauce, bok choy, Broccoli, possibly beans, and a lot of cheese on top. It was too soupy to eat with our hands. There was nothing Mexican or pizza about it, but as drunk food, it hit the spot. I would put this place in the weird-enough-to-be-good category. It's not even remotely close to my place, and I swear the delivery guy was at the door in 20 minutes. And the name is kind of magical, after all. Try the pizza. read more

Great place! I was introduce to this place when I use to go to John Jay a few years ago. I have been coming here often after a hard day of work. I order my favorite "chicken N cheese fries". Everything from the sign, decor, kitchen equipment, and even the staff make this place look exactly like a generic cookie-cutter Chinese take-out restaurant, BUT, they sell cheap mexican take-out.! I had tried every fast lunch place within this area except Happy Fresh, and decided today was the day for some Chinese-Mexican fusion? Maybe? I wasn't sure. There's probably nothing objectively special about this place - if you've been to one cheap, fast Mexican takeout restaurant staffed by Chinese people, you've been to all of them. But if you live in the neighborhood, there's no tastier, more filling meal for six bucks than the burritos at Happy Fresh Tortilla. Combo plates run under ten dollars and contain enough food to feed three people. While spiciness isn't their forte, everything is flavorful and seems fresh. Delivery is fast and reliable, but they don't give you a hard time for eating in, either. Beyond tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and any other thing you can do with a tortilla, there are many more esoteric and downright bizarre menu options (cheese fries with fish?), and I'd imagine they'd make you any combination of ingredients they haven't already thought to include on the menu. read more

I usually get a steak combination plate that comes with rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, soda, and two tortillas... not bad for ~$6. Their chorizo tacos are good. So we set out in search for them. We stumbled upong this place. When I first walked in I thought I was at a Chinese Food place, cause of the staff. They were all Chinese, but that immediately went out of my head when I saw that they had Chicken Wings... Now that is what I wanted! Normally wings at other places are 6 pieces for about $5. Not at this place! You get 8 pieces for about $4, 20 pieces for about $8 and 30 pieces for about $12. Now that is really cheap. This is a good place to pick up some wings to go if your going to a party or a little get together. Everyone is always down for wings. I did try the Mexican food here. If you are pretty buzzed, it hits the spot just right. If you plan on coming here for a meal, it's "ok". I would only come here for the wings and a side of cheese fries. read more

I'll start by saying that I grew up in Arizona about 40 minutes from the Mexico border, and after 23 years there I lived in Texas for 8 years. With that out of the way - this place was not bad. The definitely make fresh tortillas, and the steak burrito I had had good steak, decent refried beans and good fresh vegetables. I had to existentially ask this question which brought me back to the time I was at McAllen TX which was close to the border to Mexico; it was dinner time and we were having dinner at a Japanese restaurant run by Spanish Speaking Mexican immigrants I suppose, the food wasn't bad ( of course this was in 2003 so it was a loooong time ago) but going back to 2015, yeah it's not as authentic chicken quesadilla with sour cream on the side and a juicy chicken on your palatable lips but this joint here serves fresh, hot, quick quesadilla's with a box full of Mexican rice for $5.99 and gulping it with a can of soda of your choice. What I'm saying is that for a slight touch of Mexican food craving, this joint can satisfy some cravings for a quick Mexican lunch. The order was delivered really fast and the delivery man was friendly. The food was not good at all. The guacamole was made out of something other than avocado--maybe peas and a small amount of avocado? Or edamame? Not clear, but it wasn't guacamole. The veggie enchiladas were two flour tortillas filled with chopped cabbage and broccoli on a bed of rice and beans, covered in cheese and tomato. I'll be honest, as basic food goes, it wasn't actually that bad, but 1) it bore no resemblance to enchiladas (no sauce of any kind) and 2) I was just kind of embarrassed to be eating it. The quesadilla was tiny with too much chicken, almost no cheese, and everything had a burned taste. I would never order from here again. It's not Mexican food of any style that I've ever had. I love the the chili cheese fries! I get them multiple times a week! The price is great and they are usually pretty quick. Honestly, I am waiting for them to deliver as I type.
