I love how close this spot is to the train station, and can certainly see myself going back for Mexican on Sunday afternoons or coming from prospect park, even as a smaller group or solo. I had a mezcal cocktail which hit just right with the Birria tacos I ordered. There was drink options for all from a simpler fruit margarita to a specialty marg/cocktail. The wait time kept getting LONGER and LONGER, so we tried to contact the restaurant who did not answer the phone for OVER AN HOUR. I tried to cancel the order - and got a penalty charge! This is my go- to spot when I feel like venturing outside to dine in Mexican cuisine. The service is solid and attentive. Here are my highlights: 1) Good variety of burritos that range from traditional to West Coast styles. I highly recommend the Cinco de Mayo burrito. Stumbled in for a couple drinks after a day in BK. My friend and I went from Industry City to Smorgasburg to Taqueria for Bulldogs. It was a chill Sunday and this was a stop as we went about our day. After a long and tiring shopping experience at Ikea with a friend, he suggested we get dinner at Taqueria El Patron. This was my first time however, he had been there many times and raved about the quesadillas. We stopped in on a somewhat chilly Friday evening in early June and got seated immediately in their outdoor area. Taqueria El Patron seems to be well liked by the community given the crowd we saw at 9pm. It wasn't full but people were coming in consistently. Our server came over within minutes and shared the menu which features a variety of standard Mexican-American dishes. We decided to start our meal with appetizers - fresh chips with guacamole and salsa. The chips were indeed freshly fried but a few were overcooked. The guacamole was alsi pretty good. It was seasoned nicely and the texture was slightly chunky, just how I prefer. For entrees, I decided to have a chicken burrito. It was filled with grilled chicken, rice and black beans (they also have pinto beans, if you like), with creama (sour cream), cheese, and lettuce. Very tasty! The chicken was moist with good flavor. I also love sour cream with my burrito and asked for extra, on the side which made for an enjoyable meal. My friend had a special quesadilla that included shrimp and chicken along with a side of pico de gallo and guacamole. He offered me a slice and it was really good especially when dipped into the guac. As far as drinks, I only had a soda, so I can't comment beyond that. Our server was kind and attentive. Our food was up within minutes and he checked on us periodically. The outdoor seating consists of an enclosed area on the sidewalk. I really did not like it because it was chilly outside and although it was enclosed, you could still feel the chill. The area could also use a sweep. In terms of pricing, it was a great value. I can only imagine what their happy hour is like. Overall, a good experience. If I were in the area, I would consider stopping by again. They do not appreciate regular clients, are totally unprofessional and displeasing. Low class and impolite. We loved this truly, authentic Mexican restaurant! The ambiance was very inviting, clean and conformed to local Covid-19 regulations as far as I could tell. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. As for the food, it was very fresh (you must try their guacamole), and so full of flavor! The steak in the "El Patron" burrito was seasoned just right, and so tender. I felt like I was back at my abuelita's home! This place is one of those I regularly depend on for takeout and the occasional delivery order. It is conveniently located near the B41, b16, b43, and of course the B/Q train station at Prospect Park. I have never been disappointed by getting food there and I recently tried a meal at the restaurant. On a Thursday night the restaurant closes at 10 pm but the kitchen closes at 9:45. Luckily the person taking my order allowed me to know in advance so I had enough time to choose what I needed before they stopped taking orders. Since I wasn't too hungry I decided to take just an order of the Al Cabron tacos which has soft skirt steak, avocado chunks, pico de gallo & jalapeños. They have a sister restaurant across the street that also serves tacos. My general advice is you go to El patron especially for a good sit down experience (with alcoholic beverages), burritos and a wider selection. Antojitos (across the street) is better for to go orders and has certain items unavailable at el patron. Speaking of seating, el patron has outdoor seating that is covered by a shed before you can enter the indoors. It is shared with Ix next door so you have to be careful which door you are entering. So on A nice summer day you could be having margaritas outside or you can stay inside . Until recently I didn't know this place was a mini chain (places in Park slope and queens) but again it was still a great experience even if my sit down was relatively quick. Next time, I want to order myself the fajitas. The table next to me ordered it and I was jealous. It is a dish that is at peak perfection when straight out of the kitchen and not to go or delivered. On Sunday we decided to give their bottomless brunch a shot and they upheld their reputation. We decided on steak and eggs which came with home fries and spinach. Supreme I got with carnitas, it wasn't terrible. Lime made it better. Meat is really just underseasoned. There's bugs all over because they leave the doors open and have no air conditioning. Unfortunately, I wanted to enjoy my meal like I always do at the bar, until a cockroach ran across the bar. I told 3 waiters including the bartender all they did was say sorry. The food in the photos looked pretty tasty, and I was hankering for a yummy Taco Tuesday experience. What's the worst that could happen? My party of four arrived at 6:50, but a waiter didn't come around until after 7:00, by which time happy hour was over. We asked if he could make an exception, and he said no. Bad service on top of bad service. I ordered a combination plate plus an extra taco on the side. My soft taco al pastor was okay, nothing special, but not bad. The crispy shredded chicken taco was also inoffensive, though very plain. I doused on some hot sauce which made things slightly better. The chicken enchilada in mole sauce was pretty meh. Then I tried my side of pinto beans, which are prepared in a sweet sauce that reminded me more of baked beans than anything else. Not the flavor I was seeking. The side of rice was also lackluster. Turns out I got the best food of anyone. My girlfriend ordered the tacos al carbon and absolutely hated them. The steak was chewy beyond belief. Our other friend who got the steak tacos was similarly disappointed. My vegan friend munched his veggie burrito in silence, but the look on his face said everything. I bit into the burrito to find out that the shrimps still had the kebabs sticks from the grill in them. I called the restaurant. They were not apologetic, they just simply offered to send another burrito. Then they called back a few minutes later and asked if I could return the burrito with the sticks in them. Once again not apologetic. They said the shrimps are cooked with sticks to keep them together. But never acknowledged their mistake. This was my go to spot on a Friday night in the summer. When I wanted to kick back, enjoy the cool breeze of the AC with the comfort of a frozen or iced drink. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. There's always an amazing energy and crowd here so you don't need to feel weird about coming alone. I remember when they first opened, they didn't have a legit happy hour and I was turned off. But one day I decided to give it a second chance and I was happy I did. The caipirinha's are the bomb. So potent. The food here is good too and the portions are hefty.
