Before heading off on a Sunset Cruise, stopped at this shop to buy sunscreen. I ended up buying a bunch of unique gifts including a cool "Cocky Kauai" shirt for the love of my life. I haven't seen this cool design anywhere on the island!!! I also bought cute Christmas ornaments and a hippie backpack!!! I love this store!!! Will come back to do more shopping.

Enjoying Kauai in Cocky Kauai which I can find at Happy Honu Gifts

On vacation on Kauai. Went into this shop (lu.la) with friends who are native to the island. As we…read morewere leaving one of the employees there "Georgia" actually followed us out to the sidewalk and accused my friend with taking a magazine. She said "I saw you pick it up" and "maybe you forgot you picked it up". This is a complete and utter lie. My friend was actually holding a magazine he had gotten across the street at Banana Patch Studio, a great local owned store. What happened at Lu.la was so rude, and appeared to be racially motivated. My friends are Hawaiian and I am Latino/asian. My friend's wife is one of the most respected physicians on the island and my friend is a noted photographer on Kauai. My wife is a doctor and I am an attorney. To be accused in such a rude manner was utterly unacceptable. The item in question is literally a local magazine available in every store on Kauai. We were given the magazine by the store owner from the shop across the street and walked into Lu.la. with it. Craziest thing is it is a free magazine available all over the island. The general what to do on Kauai you can get anywhere. When my friend spoke to the owner of Lu.la. about the incident, Angela the owner, instead of being apologetic, became hostile. She said "well you didn't buy anything" "is our apology not enough" very sarcastically. Like that was an excuse for their outrageous behavior. We actually left because their store was so hot and the products nothing special. This behavior is not acceptable on Kauai. This is what local Hawaiian's talk about being a problem on this island. The exact opposite of what you get when you shop at local owned businesses. Avoid this place! They do not reflect the values of the people of Kauai. Also, the entire conversation was recorded. My friend was not hostile. He was professional and spoke respectfully. We can and will upload the recording if Lu.la denies their hateful behavior. This kind of conduct anywhere is awful and has to be called out since the owner would take no responsibility for their employees woeful conduct. This store opposite of aloha in every way and not friendly or authentic in any way.

I came here with my family that was visiting from the mainland, and we had a pleasant experience…read more Georgia was very helpful and kind. The store had a selection for everyone and the prices were reasonable. I would recommend everyone to visit Lu.la when they visit Hanapēpē!

We've passed by this shop over a few dozen times over the years & decided to give it a go. The items are handmade from the Koa tree that is found in Hawaii. There are pens, jewelry, bags/purses, wallets, key chains, cutlery, ornaments, vases, kitchen items & other curious artwork displayed for sale. Candace was manning the shop & she was so friendly & welcoming. She even suggested a lady who might be able to create what we're looking for. This lady works from home & has a website (Tropical Isle Music). I love to support local businesses & Candace was so charming, I bought a couple of Aloha Hula girl ornaments & a pineapple (see photo) ornament. There's a few spaces for parking that it shares with Mankoa & a granola shack. It was lovely speaking with Candace, who I learned is actually half Filipino & half Japanese, born & raised in Kaua'i. Her grandfather was one of the first Filipinos who arrived from the Philippines to work in the plantations in Hawaii. It's always interesting to learn about people & their heritage. I'm very pleased with the experience & my purchases at this shop
