    Batik dresses

Love, love, love this little locally owned shop. The owner, Carmen, is just as sweet as can be. I came to her shop 12 years ago and bought a batik dress that was my favorite dress for many years. I wore it till the fabric was thread bare! I was thrilled when we came back to Kauai this year and found she still had these wonderful dresses! I bought 4 of them, just in case I don't get back here again for awhile! She has so many lovely Hawaiian gifts to take back to friends and family. Don't miss this little Lihue gem! Lovely hair clips too! =)

Mahalo Aunty! Super nice woman running this local business. She handed us all some free goodies after our purchases. She was very sweet & helpful with our shopping there! Would hands down come by again for future shopping! She was really genuine & very down to earth. Never got her name but she was such a nice woman! She had sooo much to offer there at that store and all for a good price! From souvenirs to dresses, necklaces ,etc.

The customer service was amazing! The woman that helped us was so sweet and helpful. We bought matching outfits and even though we bought 2 we will be back for more to support this business because the service was that great! We love our outfits and everyone keeps stopping us to tell us how much they like our outfits and asking where we got them :)

I stopped at The Red Hibiscus & Gifts to pick up some Hawaiian-style hair clips after arriving at Kuaui's Lihue Airport. I found some fabulous floral metal clips and some plastic florals. A great shop for a quick stop to pick up gifts. Will go there again when I am in Kuaui.

A cute shop with quite a variety of Hawaiian gifts. Tight space inside but we didn't expect big store in Kauai.

This place is so cute truly. There is a little store inside you can check out with cute items…read more There are pastas and sauces you can buy. There are cookie doughs you can take home and bake. I wish I had an oven so I could do just that. There are a lot of coffee options to choose from and many sound really good. I went with Mr. melrose since it is the namesake drink, makes me think it's a signature. I really liked it! I chose dark chocolate and it wasn't too sweet, which was just right. Coffee was smoothe and really refreshing to drink. We also got the truffle egg croissant which I highly highly recommend. It's so good. Packed with plenty of eggs, definitely taste the truffle and my goodness that croissant was very well made, well laminated, buttery, moist and flakey at the same time. The barista was also very very kind. Great service! I highly highly recommend.

I'm gonna keep this simple…read more In a twist of fate...... I have discovered that My NEW Favorite coffee shop on the beautiful Island of Kauai is..... Drum Roll Please..... MELROSE!!!!!!! That's it. That's my Review. What do you think? Gotcha! Alright, here's how it went down. During our most recent trip to Kauai, we went to our favorite little local breakfast spot in Lihue, known as Tip Top. Fun Fact #1: Tip Top has been around for over 100 years (yeah! It was Established in 1916). Fun Fact #2: Hawai'i didn't even become a state until 1959. Crazy right! Anywho... that morning we drove into Lihue and pulled into the Tip Top parking lot just like we do every trip to Kauai. But this visit, as we approached the front door, there was a sign posted at the entrance saying something along the lines of: "Sorry, No coffee today". Now I don't know about you, but you don't wanna see me without my morning brew. Of course, this didn't detour us from having a delicious breakfast at our favorite little hole on the wall. (Check out Tip Top if you want to eat with the locals) So as soon as breakfast was over, we got back in the rental car and went on Yelp to find us a place to get coffee. And after my wife scrolled for a few minutes looking at the different coffee shops nearby, she suddenly exclaimed: "oh this place looks cute!" In my head, my exact thought was ... "cute?". I don't want cute! I want caffeine, Lots of caffeine! But I was desperate. I didn't care if the place was cute or not, I just wanted coffee Stat! The drive from Tip Top was less than 2 minutes before we pulled into the Parking lot of Melrose. Initial impression: is this place even open? There were windows, but they were all covered and you couldn't see inside. Me: Oh great, it looks closed. Are we gonna have to settle for McDonalds coffee across the street? My wife: Just go check. Yelp says they're open. So I walk up, anxiously hoping for the best and..... To my surprise, they were open. Ok, this is where it went from good to GREAT! We walked in and my first thought (fellas don't judge) (ladies, I finally get it) The place was soooo CUTE!!! Haha Yeah, it was 1/2 Boutique (apparel, accessories, gifting) And 1/2 coffee shop/café. And of course, beautiful roses throughout. The 2 young ladies behind the counter were so sweet, kind and made us feel so welcomed. While looking at coffee menu to see what we wanted, we were offered a sample of their collagen melon milk frozen concoction. Ho. Lee. Crap. This stuff was ridiculously delicious, so you know we had to get ourselves a full size one for the kids to share. In addition we got a Miss Melrose (iced) and a Mocha Melrose (hot) for my mother-in-law waiting in the car with the kids. All drinks were out of this world and definitely made with love! Speaking of Love... Their straws are pink and are HEART SHAPED!!! Yeah, this place didn't leave any detail out. Everything from the product they sell (the coffee and merchandise in the boutique), the whole vibe this space gives off, and of course the kind hearted staff they employ here... Melrose, you deserve every star I'm giving you! It was too bad we had just come from breakfast, otherwise we totally would have eaten here because everything looked/sounded so good from their bakery menu. We liked it so much, we decided to stop in a few days later when we were passing through Lihue and realized this time, they were actually closed (closed on Sundays). Thankfully for us, Kauai is our home away from home in our hearts and we have been so blessed to be able to come back so often and share this special place with our kids. Melrose know this... We will 1000% be coming back and know that every person I talk to that's going to Kauai, I will pass on the good word about your shop. I wish you nothing, but success until me see you again. Mahalo!

Have you ever seen someone visit Hawaii on television or in a movie and they step off the plane and…read moresomeone immediately puts a lei on them? Yeah, that doesn't really happen unless you pay someone for that "experience." Hollywood has pretty much given them a great industry through. This is a fairly simple flower shop that specializes in leis, presumably for those occasions when you want to greet someone with a lei coming straight off a plane, or for putting on a lei when you are about to leave. They have both plastic and real flower leis, with the freshest ones sitting in a refrigerated section. Their prices are considerably higher than I've seen at other stores around the area, but for the convenience of being at the airport and being able to have the whole experience, I'm sure it's worth it for most people.

The other factor that kept me from doing so, were the signs in the airport about checking for plants and other animals entering the island and what not. I wasn't really sure how strict they were with plants and animals leaving their habitat. I suppose it was fine as the store was permitted in the airport, but all those signs entering the island had me nervous I might have accidental catnip or cat fur on me that would trigger some warning. The flowers and plants were absolutely gorgeous. I wish now I had brought one back to Texas as the natural flowers and foliage of Hawaii were beautiful and having a living reminder of my honeymoon would have been nice. I did go as far as to check the plants to see if they had pointers as to how to keep them alive. I don't have a green thumb, but anyone who does should be able to keep their plants alive, as long as they don't live in Texas where weather is psychotic. The staff was friendly, the space was small, but the smell and variety made me wish I could have stayed a bit longer to browse, but leaving the island I didn't feel too comfortable to browse too long in case our plane departed immediately. It's a lovely store, and if you feel daring, you should buy one of the pretty flowers to take home.
