And while I still haven't found any moose, I saw my first loons in real life right behind my room AND managed to capture their haunting song on video right from my patio!! This beautiful inn has been around for over 100 years - and the inside of the main lodge is full of antiques and is oozing with Victorian charm - so warm and inviting!! All the staff were just fantastic- caring and eager to help and so friendly - in the lodge and the tavern both. I reserved a water view king room in the Haley Pond Lodge and it was huge!! Lots of shelf space and a huge patio overlooking the pond - just magnificent! The room had a standard coffee maker, microwave and fridge. The bathroom was beautiful and everything was spotlessly clean. Water pressure and temp worked perfectly. The grounds are the best part - there are mallard ducks all over the place. I saw two deer right outside my room when I first arrived. One night I heard a moose bugling (mating call) and it was so loud haha! Shame I never saw him lol. There are tons of species of waterfowl on the pond - I saw Ring-necked Ducks and Mergansers!! And the best part was I saw LOONS!! At first, I found a mated pair right out back from my room - and they were fishing - it was so fantastic! And I saw more out across the pond bathing and preening. The mornings were super foggy which created such an eerie ambiance and the loons were crying their haunting song - oh it was just magical! Breakfast isn't included but is served daily. I didn't try it so can't speak to it but I did have dinner in the tavern one night and it was fabulous. I got the Parmesan crab dip and a tavern salad with grilled salmon - all totally delicious. I visited in late September so the fall foliage was just starting to come in - I can only imagine how gorgeous it is during peak foliage. This is a marvelous place to base yourself out of for wildlife chasing, skiing, summer fun on the lakes - for really any kind of vacation honestly. Haley Pond Lodge is detached from the main inn and set quite a ways back - but the grounds are easily walkable. There's plenty of parking and it's very centrally located in the adorable town of Rangeley. I even walked over to the huge Rangeley Lake a few times bc it's so close - it's especially wonderful at sunset. Prices for food and lodging are reasonable, even during peak seasons. All in all I had a great experience and will most definitely be back - without a doubt!

The first day was the full river trip and the second day was the ultimate on the Kennebec River. Both days were excellent!! It was my and my 16 year old year's first time white water rafting. We absolutely loved it!! We had a big group, 15 people the first day, 19 the second with a large range of ages 6-65 years and mixed of experienced and non experienced. We had the same guides both days-Jackie and Steve. Not only were they great guides but they are beautiful people! Everyone in our group had a wonderful time and we spent all night reminiscing.

We have a home mountain (Mohawk Mountain in CT) and are regulars at Sugarbush, Mad River Glen,…read moreKillington, and a few other east coast ski mountains as well. We sometimes get to ski in Europe, Canada, Japan and the West Coast of the USA. All that is a long-winded way of saying that when it comes to skiing, we get around. And with all that getting around, we can confidently say that Sugarloaf is one of our favorite mountains. What Sugarloaf has going for it: - It's incredibly friendly. There are a lot of locals / Mainers who ski here and they are the nicest. Employees are helpful and awesome, from folks in the tuning shop to lift operators to restaurant staff. The tuning team did a fantastic job on our skis. - Terrain is varied and fun, appropriately graded. Many runs are quite wide, which makes everything feel easy. And the mountain is HUGE with good, long runs. It almost feels European in that sense. There's a section of the mountain for woods / off piste skiing. - Employees are low key and nice about where you boot up and leave bags -- at least in March on a weekday when there aren't huge crowds. We try to be respectful and follow rules, but when we asked other skiers whether it was kosher for us to leave bags in a conference room / dining room area (where we could see lots of others leaving bags), they were almost indignant: "This isn't Sunday River!" ;) - My dear college buddy, a self-appointed whoopie pie connoisseur, Mainer, and former Sugarloaf ambassador, claims that the Base Lodge cafeteria has the best whoopie pies around. - They're on the IKON pass! Only two downsides I can think of for us: - Some of the parking lots are super duper far from the Base Lodge. My buddy and I explored some areas of the mountain that were new to him and ended up at a way-far-down lot. We had a long, hot, uphill hike back to the Base Lodge area. - The mountain is about 7 hours from home. If only we could teleport. This is such a great mountain. It's one that makes me glad and grateful to ski the East!

Sugarloaf Ski Resort was fun as always. I've been coming here since I was a kid -- going on 35-40…read moreyears now -- and it still feels like a winter tradition. That said, the prices have climbed steeply over the years, and it's definitely one of the most expensive mountains to ski in Maine. The snow today was on the icier side. The trails were groomed, but the top layer of powder wore off quickly -- within about an hour and after only a handful of skiers -- leaving large icy patches across the mountain. It would've been great to see a bit more attention to grooming given the conditions. On the bright side, our ski instructor, Terry, was absolutely fantastic. Truly one of the best instructors we've ever had -- patient, skilled, and a pleasure to learn from. Overall, we still had a great day on the mountain and will be back, just like always.

My family saves all year for our one vacation. We found Kingsbury Pond Rental Camp on craigslist…read morewith an amazing ad describing nature, loons, quiet pond, fishing...it seemed perfect. They have a facebook page as welll. We talked with the owner and made a deposit. We never heard from them until I contacted them about things to do in the area and to say we were looking forward to our trip. We arrived late afternoon on the first day. The couple met us and showed us around. We wrote out the full payment and they told us the money we had sent by paypal was not a deposit but a security deposit they would return at the end. We settled in and had a nice first evening. We awoke Sunday to construction 4 doors down (which the landlord knew about but neglected to tell us). In the afternoon the landlords themselves began work on their home next door with pounding stakes and having a flatbed arrive with a bobcat and front end loader. Sunday evening the landlord started tearing down trees on the property. The noise was loud and horrible, ruining things for us. My husband spoke to him as did I and he felt he had every right to work on his house. It turns out he planned having work done all week while we were there having his house lifted. We woke Monday morning to swearing, screaming, a generator, bobcat, front end loader, saw and hammering. My husband went over to speak to our landlord but he was no where to be found, just a crew of a bunch of guys. We had to drive an hour to get reception on our phone and cancelled the check. Even upon getting back having been forced to get away from all that noise, the landlord came home and started on the loader ripping out trees again. That evening we told him you don't take someone's hard earned money and advertise a lovely vacation on the pond with the loons and then do this. We told him we stopped the check and tried to reason with him. He actually told us he was able to get the equipment to do this job because another job got cancelled because it would be too much noise. Tuesday we woke to more of the same. His wife arrived later that day and we talked.. She acted as if she had no idea this had all taken place. Two and a half days gone from our vacation with horrible construction. They had totally lied to us and misrepresented the place. They both came over and apologized and said they would deduct $200 and stop all construction. Being five hours from home, having bought the food, arranged our work schedules and that of our kids and not knowing the area, we agreed to stay with the discount and wrote another check. The landlord promised she would give our security deposit back and not to worry.The port a pot we were told would should've been emptied on Tuesday but it never happened all week and they did nothing. We salvaged Wed. (our 20th wedding anniversary) and Thurs. Friday was a complete rain out and we left on Sat. I left the place immaculate. The landlord promised she would put the security deposit check in the mail Sunday night. When I got home I realized we left an antique wire heart hanging in the window that I gave my husband for our 20th anniversary. I wrote to ask them to send it with our security deposit. Nearly a month later..nothing. I wrote pleading for them to do the right thing but nothing...Now today we get a bogus email asking us to pay more money for bogus things we don't even know what they are talking about like a wheel on a metal bed frame missing...please. These people clearly misrepresented the place...broke their word and DO not know how to be honest with tenants. They are shameful,selfish people and should not be allowed to do this to others. To think it is right to take money and do major construction on your home right next door is CRAZY and the port a pot...just cruel and disgusting.

I was stoked to find a place that was available for a holiday weekend and wasn't super overpriced. I outreached the owner via their contact button and got a quick response and booked the site. When we arrived we were shocked that our site was not cleared (full of weeds, tall grass and even some trash. We were on a site that was right on top of another site with an ugly old camper on it (looked haunted and abandoned). The site was the dumpiest camp site I've stayed on, and I've stayed on thousands of campsites. I feel bad writing a harsh review because the owner seemed to be super friendly. There was one bathhouse which were the only facilities in the campground. I didn't use the showers because those and the bathrooms seemed grungy. It's a great location and pretty easy to locate but I would recommend them cleaning up the sites and maybe updating a few things. The sites were too close together for my taste and again, the trash on our site was really off putting. I wouldn't go back.

$18.00 a night for a tent site. Pool, air hockey, ping pong, board games, hot & clean showers,…read morelaundry,microwave, coffee, small store. $.35 ice cream sandwiches. For an RV & tent site it was not overcrowded. Pond for swimming and plenty of places for kids to run around. Kingfield also has a very nice grocery store about 3 miles away and a burrito stand that puts Chipolte to shame. The gaming and laundry area does have a 1970s feel and everything seems old and tired, but after 2 weeks of campsites this was one of the best because of so many things to do.
