I had no idea how big it was and how many things they produced. We definitely intend to return in order to pick strawberries and apples. It was great, inexpensive fun for us and I can see this being a family tradition.

Not being able to get food, a table, a drink, or get on a hayride just isn't fun. Today we decided to try our luck at a new spot, Sunny Acres Farm. Sunny Acres took us roughly 30 minutes to drive to. Parking was close, easy, and free. Adult tickets are $10. My children (four and under) were free. Sunny Acres has a small storefront with pumpkins, baked goods, salsas, candy apples, etc. They have various vendors lined up on the short walk to the pumpkin patch. Vendors include artists, kettle corn, and other refreshments. Admission includes access to the petting zoo, bouncy house, pick your own flowers, hayride, corn hole, live music, corn maze, games, and playground. My son rode a pony for $2. The lines were either nonexistent or short. The employees (or perhaps owners?) were friendly, accommodating, and provided a family feel that other similar businesses lack. We ate a meal while we were there. We had hamburgers and hot dogs. I know they also had chili behind the storefront and various other food trucks, including ice cream and adult beverages (cocktails and craft beer). I can't think of anything Sunny Acres lacks. I'm actually afraid of word getting out and having to share this experience with too many people. But, this family farm is worth patronizing.

Mainstream stores don't carry anything but standard orange, and grossly overcharge, for that matter. I don't necessarily want to invest the time - or money - in trekking out to an orchard either, although I'd always prefer to support a local business. This year I solicited help from Facebook to find roadside vendors, and two people made the following recommendation: "drive out Winchester Road past Man O'War," but that was enough - there they were! The folks from Holleran Farms were very friendly and fun to talk to while perusing the goods. They had a TON to choose from, and were stocking more the entire time I was there. They price based on size, which was more than fair. I ended up with 9 pumpkins and gourds for $40. This will be a MUST visit for me each fall from now on!
