WORST PLACE EVER! We came here for lunch while in town with my family, my grandfather and my 2 cousins and their families. It took 15 minutes to even be acknowledged once we sat down, we had to get our own menus. Mind you there were only like 3 other families in the restaurant. Once we ordered drinks, we didn't get them for 15 minutes. Out of 13 people, one person Got their food first after 30 minutes of waiting. You can see inside the kitchen and our food just say there for quite a long time, no one bothered to grab it and bring it to us. The rest of the people didn't get their food for a long time after, one didn't get their food at all which was a grilled cheese! Half the table ordered grilled cheese, the others Mac n cheese or wings so nothing too difficult. We asked for the manager on 3 separate occasions, he refused to come out of the kitchen and even speak to us. Everyone's food was cold, we had to beg for drink refills and got a nasty attitude of "what else" when asked for refills. When the grilled cheese finally came after everyone else was done and asking for it on multiple occasions, the waitress threw it in front of her and said "I had it it out with the manager you're not paying for this" gee thanks. We will never be back here again. The manager on shift should be fired for refusing to even speak to us, not once did we get an apology or acknowledgement. read more

We have eaten or at least tried to eat at his Happy Joe's 3 times since changing it. The first time was really slow service. The second time we were about the only ones there and had to ask for the bill, never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks, and the 3rd time we turned around and left just trying to get a seat. The gentleman seating people sat a couple ahead of us. He went to the front counter and asked a girl to wait on the table, she said it wasn't her section. The gentleman seemed confused and came back to the entrance. Another girl came up while we were waiting and seemed confused as to why we were there. We turned and left. Very poor service and prices are high. Not sure what they are trying to do with the change, but it's NOT working. We will not go back. Three strikes, you're out. Sorry. read more

With a name like "Happy Joe's" this is the most depressing place I've stepped foot in. We were planning on going on a distillery tour at three and were hoping to grab a quick lunch beforehand. Unfortunately the place we were planning on eating at didn't open until four so we stopped in this gem. The lunch buffet was still sitting out and looked as if it had been for hours. We went to the front and placed an order for a pizza and nachos. As we were walking away the girl who took our order asked the other cashier if we just ordered a pizza. Um... you took our order! Did you not hear us?! The pizza was about the same as a frozen pizza would be. It was weird because it had cheddar cheese on it. Who does that? There was also a lot of grease pooled into the center which tells you it was made with a low quality cheese. I could think of a lot of words to describe this place but "happy" is not one of them. read more

PICKY EATERS BEWARE. They have a cute outside, a nice inside, and a little buffet . We went for lunch, tried the buffet but were not impressed. My daughter tried lots of food and did not like them. She said " My favorite part was the soda" I thought the pizza was ok compared to Chicago pizza but not worth the calories. They also have make your own tacos, nachos, and a salad bar in the buffet. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I came here with my family on vacation. We had 13 in our party, it took us almost 2 hours to get our food. The sad part is half of us ordered grilled cheese, which should of only took 20min at the most. The waitress was rude, we asked to speak to a manager 3 times and our request were ignored, he wouldn't even come out. By almost hour 3 they Gave us a phone number to call the general manager. They have an unusual crackery-type crust that does not appeal to me. I can't speak to their other menu items since I've never tried them. If you are a young family with kids, by all means,go there. Try it. I'm sure all the ingredients are fresh and the menu has something for everyone. Who knows? Maybe I'll go there for an ice cream some time. But not pizza when there's better choices around. read more

Overall, Happy Joe's is more of a place for kids 5 - 12. The food here is pretty good - for Chuck E. Cheese standards. The arcade there sucks though. The machines eat your money all the time, and the *few employees don't do anything about it, even if you repeatedly ask them. read more

My friends and I came to Galena to visit and had a serious craving for a good burger and fries. Our expectations were met and EXCEEDED! The food was EXCELLENT and the customer service was top notch. My wife and i take our kids here a few times in the year and i gotta say the last time was our last time. The staff was nice, however, when you can look into the kitchen and see how unhygienic it is it makes you want to turn and run. No gloves, hairnets, or beardnets. I didint see anyone wash their hands once. One of the employees had flour all over the front of his shirt and he just looked dirty. The once amazing game room got reduced to a small corner where the games are ignored and left for broken. All in all very bad experience. read more

This Happy Joe's has been remodeled since the last time we were here. We went on a Wednesday night and they have an all you can eat buffet that includes the salad bar, pizza (of course), pasta and the night we went they had baked and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. The buffet is $10 for anyone over 10 and it was WONDERFUL! The food was fresh and delicious. They had a variety of pizza from the standards (cheese, pepperoni, taco) to the Happy Joe special pizza like crab meat rangoon (it was ok, but one piece was enough) and BLT. They have added a private room that can be rented out, a separate tap room for those who want to drink a variety of beer with a full bar and they moved the game room to the back with 6 large tables for parties. I highly recommend giving this HJ a try or a second try if you had a bad experience in the past. The staff was attentive, service was great and the food was fabulous! read more

We went here because everything in downtown Galena was jam packed and we were hungry. We ended up carrying out and eating in our hotel room. We ordered a pepperoni pizza on a multigrain crust. I liked the fact that they offered a multigrain crust and it was the best part of the pizza although it was a little thicker than I would have preferred. That's really all I can say-the pizza was so-so and we didn't stick around to experience the atmosphere. read more

Now I normally don't write reviews because I don't have the time, but I had to write one for Happy Joes in Galena. I wanted to spare someone from eating at this restaurant. Happy Joes was a BIG disappointment. After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a chance. I ordered the chicken fettuccine alftedo and it was nasty. I was given chopped up spaghetti n very little chicken in this gross white sauce. The 2 waitresses said it was delicious n recommended it and I wish I had not. They barely put chicken mayb about 1 ounce and it was very fatty chicken. My husband ordered the beef sandwich and it was very salty with little meat. It was suppose to come in a hoagie bun but came in a hamburger bun instead because they ran out. My son's burger was salty n burnt. How can anyone not cook a frozen burger patty correctly? This place was not inexpensive either but for the price we paid we could have had a MUCH better meal else where. Please save your money and go somewhere else. This review is all about the food I didn't even mention the service. That's another story. I wish I could've given them 0 stars. read more

We were staying at the hotel next door so thought it would be a great place to take the grandchildren to eat. WRONG, the minute we stepped in the door a foul smell hit us, a dirty, old smell. We sat down at one of the few cleared off tables and looked around at a mess. Food all over on the floor and dirty tables. Picked up the menus to read them over and they were FILTHY too!
